This was an offline run i did that still took me nearly 5 hours. An unsafe build on a weak ship that was a struggle throughout. I did train twice, with one i could speed hack, but I had some long thinks in stores as well as an Ion Storm fight that took a long time.

I don't like recording sector 1 cause of all the resets typically. meant to start on 2, but that only happens when you actually hit the record button. I figured i would be able to by hacking or tp for crew kills, while the weapons allowed me to kill auto ships. Generally that worked. Got extra spooky in the late game as you'll see. Edit: Recently surpassed by Emporer_Badger with 4655 scrap

It's mentioned in the beginning of the video that Engi sectors are average in terms of scrap, however this is incorrect. On average, Engi sector yeilds more scrap that any other sector because of the free equipment that you tend to get.

the tournament mod - alters the last stand and yeah, the beacons that are over taken are less random, and tend to happen away form the base to lower the chances of diving

@@crowrevell2082 Thank you! Just finished all 4 parts. The free weapons didn't make up for the absolute garbage RNG otherwise, IMO, and the run required high level execution throughout.

I once devastated the flagship with fire bombs and no hacking on hard mode. Straight up threw one in the medbay in phase 2 while my other weapons hit the shields + mind control 3 to turn the pilot into a mass murderer. They were so preoccupied with the shields and the pilot they didn't put the fire out in the medbay, so they couldn't heal. I started setting fires everywhere until they had only 3 crew left for phase 3, at which point they sent one wave of guys at me and then their lone intern had to put out every fire himself while mind controlled, so the top half of the flagship was on fire, and the only thing that could hit me was the power surge. What a great game. The funniest shit about hard mode is the missile room and laser room are connected to the main body of the ship, which means fires can spread to them and from them, which I think gives fire bombs some nice value if you get a raging inferno going in their shield room.

About the fire beam/bomb. I just had a streak where I played rock b to get the crystal ship and ancestry achievement (not in advanced edition) and let me tell you, when you get a teleporter and still have the fire bomb (or swapped it for a fire beam) you feel like a god. Oh, you have shields? Let me start a fire there and send my rocks in. Retreating to medbay? Well looks like your shields burned up and my fire beam just went off cooldown, Good luck ;). And on the flagship, your rocks can last long enough in medbay for it to fully burn. And by that point most of them will be low enough health to not be able to put out the fire. So from there you can just kill off all but one of the crew. And have an easier fight. Although I haven’t been able to do it on hard mode/AE so it’s most likely different their.

You played that sector 4 super well, I learned a lot about boarding in hazard events.
what is the difference between the missles? are they not all the same?
So, with 3 power weapon set ups, the 2 power weapon has to be in slot 1. The missiles is in slot 1 which means it's a 50/50 to be an artemis (which is 2 power for the enemy) or leto. One the missile fires, artemis missiles are bigger and have fins in the middle.

How did you get your hacking on at 3.18.01?? Did you cheat or TRICK? Weird that it was not shoot down??? I don´t get it?
I depowered hacking so the hack drone stops moving. The defense drones shoot in anticipation of where the hack will be, thus they miss. You can do the same with boarding drones or offensive drones (against anti-drone drone).

Stealth B is very funny when you get pre-igniter and flak I in the first sector (just happened to me), I didn't even had to power shields until the flagship
it is a glass cannon. It's used for speed runs on easy.
The one thing that's kinda neat about the backup battery charger is the timing perfectly aligns with cloaking cooldown. If you activate battery and L3 cloak at the same time, and use the backup bars on the cloaking system with the battery augment, the battery will come back online a little before the cloaking does. It's absolutely not worth 40 scrap, but it is incredibly convenient.
Might be a weird question but- do you use a trackball mouse? The mouse movement seems slightly different from "normal" (it's something I noticed when I switched myself!)

I saw this video on thumbnail, and I was totally confused by how Engi A is the best ship in the game until. I remembered Engi C looks just like Engi A and is freaking amazing. Somehow, I blanked that the ship existed. But it was a good 20 seconds of confusion.
there are a few ships that look really similar and kind of why i started with them in the order they were in so I was less likely to screw it up

How do you avoid being hit by missles?
Sometimes you can't. A lot of it comes down to taking weapons off line as soon as possible. at least in the early game. As you build up scrap to consider options, cloaking is the most obvious. Hacking is another tool, because you can hack their weapons to slow down their volley, giving you multiple chances to break their weapons before they fire. Defense Drone is another. Not as popular because the right side of the ship isn't fully covered (there's a bug in programming that Defense Drones basically don't see that part of the screen) and it somewhat competes for drone parts with hacking. Training your crew early can also help - find a safe fight and allow you crew to get enough experience in piloting and engines for a few more dodges. Lastly I would say is engines. I tend to not upgrade engines unless i'm far behind and need to run from fights (that's why mantis b upgrades engines first).

@@metalgearsolidsnake6978 cloaking adds a flat +60% evasion. higher levels of cloaking just increase the duration of your cloak. 5/10/15 seconds at levels 1/2/3. If you have level 4 engines powered, and a trained person in piloting and a trained engines person on engines you will have 100% evasion when cloak is activated.

I try to avoid stores until I get at least t2 shields, and have some amount of scrap in the bank. What's the use if I find something I want and can't afford it? Sometimes refueling + repairing has to wait if I see a LRS early in the run though. Def1 drones are something I splurge on too. Maybe I'm doing the calculations wrong, but repairing the ship over and over again starts to get expensive. Other things I splurge on: burst2 and flacks. I often regret my decision either way sacrificing too much for these, or failing to find good weapons for the second half of the game. Am I wrong in thinking that getting hit once or twice more per fight due to putting off shields already makes scrap recovery arm fail at it's job? I get it later in the game when scraps start to scale up to 60~80 and 15% is +10 scrap, but even then 1 hp is worth 2~4$ so deploying a single def1 drone might already outpace sra. This only gets better since coming across an attack drone more or less is -1 shields for the enemy in those tough fights, but aren't necessary in most cases so the few spare free drone parts tend to be enough without spending more?
yeah - generally each ship has like an upgrade path (typically shields) which outweigh what a store can provide. they taking a few hits because i bought x works with everything for the most part. My play style is to eliminate all risk. I think a lot of players assume there's a certain amount of rolling risk or "greeding" during runs, but I think that's wrong. DD1 can provide a lot of security against missiles and going drones and dd1 is probably something that gets skipped more than it should be. It's difficult to say when it's a good spot to pick up a dd1 vs holding out for cloaking/hacking. But i've definitely won runs because of the choice to buy drone control.

I think you've rediscovered the economic theory of Time Preference, and your argument is that players are thinking too much in the long term instead of balancing long term and short term goals. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_preference
After 800 or so hours my biggest tip is to extract the game data files, open the folder in VS Code, and CTRL+F when i forget how an event can play out
the wiki's pretty good about that. outryder and mikehopley have done a lot so you can basically google the text of the event and see what'll happen. though the ads will be plentiful.

I think an extremely important general idea is missed here is that the systems (especially the most important: shields, engines, weapons, cloaking and hacking) are much more important than any augmentation. For example, there are insanely rare situations when you completely have to sell zoltan shield and buy cloaking (if you have troubles with scrap)
I think that's a good point. I almost never go to a store looking for an augment. I think i noted elsewhere that DRA and ZSB are the 2 that I would visit a store with the goal of buying while everything else is like "well, nothing here I want and I can see the spots that they'd be helpful"
HM. at the first shop, with the hull beam and charge ion... why the decision not to swap into ion / hull beam? burst laser seems like an inferior companion to the hull beam regardless of how good it is in a vacuum
burst 2 + hull beam work just as well, perhaps better and i don't have to invest more money into it. Buying the charge would cost me 50 scrap, or 10 if i was to sell the burst and then i'd have to immediately invest 35 scrap into weapons to have both online so i can harm 1 shielded ships. I could use artemis for a bit to set up hall beam, but burst 2 + artemis is completely fine and has better synergy with various weapons. Ions tend to want more ions, and don't gel as well with say flak or missiles. It's just spending money for, at best, lateral upgrade while using up scrap that I'd rather save for hacking.
I don't get why you'd put off access to information on every path you're connected to from start to finish just to have shields one fight early on a ship that probably was going to do 1 damage to you anyway, also saying you prioritize shops instead of collecting scrap... but you need scrap to use the shops?
again, LRS are not as powerful as shields. in combat it does nothing. In a spot where I can't farm up for the store, it would make sense to sell LRS to have a better ship. Saying "wait one jump" would be inaccurate because you can't just make a store appear a jump later. I'm also not saying skip all the scrap and rush stores. I'm saying it's far better to reserve money to make any store an oppotunity to improve instead of pricing yourself out of a store and hoping you live long enough to find the next one and that the store you find has something that can save you. Playing around as much bad RNG as you possibly can is better than hoping to get a ton of value from LRS then finding a store. While a likely outcome, it's far from certain. So, instead I play around ship improvement so I'm far more likely to survive nasty fights. A few months ago, i completed my goal of doing 13 runs with every ship on hard mode and ended up with a 352-12 record, while shunning LRS nearly every run. Some runs I kept it, because there wasn't a reason to sell it in the moment. I can't come to the conclusion that an item i basically ignored in 300+ runs (as it was useful early game on stealth ships) has much of any value. This video along with my video on scouting sectors covers my philosophy on how to maximize scrap efficiency while maximizing safety.
Once you have all your ship systems wouldn't you want to still visit stores for augments ?
Generally no. I have a guide about augments and honestly, most are pretty terrible. You could go looking for better weapons or maybe some crew if you're below your comfort level with crew. But there could be exceptions for looking for augments. If you have teleporter, zoltan shield bypass gives an good advantage, particularly if the ships weapons are weak and makes it worth actively hunting for it. Drone Recovery Arm could also be worth getting if you are lacking in drone parts and if not present, you can at least buy some drone parts. Maybe a case for LRS, but if you have all systems, it's tough for there to be a hazard you need to be concerned about. Augments tend to be at the bottom of what I'm looking for. And I tend to only check them out if i'm at the store for other reasons.
Wow lots of good information here. One thing I like to do for safe fights like at 28:00 is unpower weapons and train the shield guy if I have one.
training can be pretty nice. I find it most useful in hard mode difficult, to get free evasion and a faster charge on my FTL. Though i use cheat engine to speed up the game so it takes like 1 minute vs up to 80 minutes.
Some important considerations for the crystal sector: You lose all the remaining jumps in your current sector, which sucks if you find this early, AND you dont get to choose what the next sector you jump into is going to be, when you leave crystal, because cyrstal isnt on the map. Im not sure how the game loads you back into the map, haven't gone to crystal yet, but given how so many other things are coded I would imagine there's some kind of priority position that always gets selected first, out of the list of "sector X" possibilities.
I had the best run ever as Engi B - I unlocked Rock A, Stealth A, Federation A, Engi C and Lanius A in one run, only because I got Pre-Igniter, 3x Flak I, Mind Control and Defense I drone.
