Red Sox fan who cried like a baby when listening to this song the night the Cubies finally became champions. I pity any sports fan who isn't broken up at least a little by this. Eddie wrote this when Ernie Banks on his birthday said Wriggle and the Cubs needed a tribute. Beautiful job Eddie. Cubs number one fan. PS What: phenomenon way to win 3-1 down and to win in extra innings after a rain delay thought l'd have a heart attack . Right now im sitting in my car listening to sports radio listening to all Cubbies fans telling their family stories of the Cubs. It's so moving amd I'm thinking about going to Fenway with my Dad and Grandpa. . Aside from the Sox coming back from 3 games down in the ALCS vs the Yankees and winning the WS and Butler picking off Wilson in Super Bowl 49 against the hated Seahawks this is the most moving victory l know of. I hope all those Cubs fans who didn't live to see this great day are smiling today
Here's to all the Grandpas, Grandmas, Aunts, Uncles, Moms, Dads, Brothers, Sisters of the past 108 years that never gave up hope for someday. Someday is here, God bless the Cubs and all the fans, we went all the way!!!!!!!! Go Cubbies!!!!!!!!
To my Grandpa S, buried in his Cubs hat. To my Grandma O who always watched and cheered. To Mrs C who got us tickets to Aug 9, 1988 game. To my love Mark Grace. For Harry, Ernie, Santo, Sutcliffe, Sandberg and all the other great Cubs. Today was the day! Holy Cow!
This song epitomizes how special the Cubs are. The camaraderie of the fans, the team. I am still shedding tears of happiness from 5 years ago. Go Cubs Go! ❤️💙
I live in Texas and I'm a die-hard Astros fan and Cincinnati is my favorite team, but when they won it brought tears to my eyes, and not long after that, someone got the onions. I was crying my eyes out and this video gives me chills and tears to my eyes, and someone has the onions now. Thank you Cubs, for showing me something that many didn't get to see, yet dream of. Thank you Cubs, thank you so much. I don't know what I did to deserve such a great gift of y'all as champions, but thank you anyway. Thank you so much, I can't thank you enough. And Cubs, if you ever read this, may God bless you.
Eddie is one of the reasons I'm pulling for the Cubs to win. I'm spoiled as a Yankees fan but as a 44 year old Jets fan I'm all too familiar with the heartbreak. Cubs fans deserve this. 108 years is long enough. Good luck.
I don't know a Cubs fan who can watch this without crying. I waited for this moment for over 25 years, my parents waited for it for over 50, and my grandparents are watching it all from heaven. They did it. Goddamnit, they did it, and the celebration we waited for generations to have is finally here.
Splitter4416 I couldn't say it better. Cubs fans are family. We've been through a hard time. But this win isn't just for the people here it's for every Cubs fan that suffered. It's over. WE DID IT
EACH OF US CUBS FANS ARE SO HAPPY AND OVERJOYED THAT OUR CUBS WON THE WORLD SERIES... EACH OF US ARE ALL CONNECTED AND WILL ALWAYS BE FOREVER AND EVER... WE ARE HUGE FAMILY US CUBS FANS... (SOMEDAY HAPPENED AND I STILL AM CELEBRATING OUR WORLD SERIES VICTORY) A TRUE "WHERE WERE U MOMENT" FOR ALL TIMES...
And when the day comes with that last winning run, and I'm crying and covered in beer, I'll look to the sky and know I was right, to think someday we'll go all the way Yeah, someday we'll go all the way. Someday we'll go all the way. Today is that day!
I'm 2,000 miles away from my hometown heroes back in Chicago due to the fact that I'm in the marine corps now . That didn't stop me from crying when they turned that double play for the final 2 outs for the pennant . I literally can't explain it . Go Cubs go
I was deployed in Turkey during their 2016 run. Born and raised in Chicagoland and a die-hard for life cubs fan. He truly means it when he says Wrigley is the shrine of baseball. We were 8 hours ahead, and my shifts started at 6:30AM. I thankfully had my PS4 and MLB.TV, and woke up at midnight each morning and watched every single game. It was the most nervewracking roller coaster ride I’ve ever been on, even while we were in a combat zone. I cried when they won the pennant, but was so pissed when they finally won it, because it was just too much to bear as a Lovable Losers fan. I will never forget that run; I was a decent high school ball player, but I can say it was the most amazing thing I have and will have ever witnessed. Same for any Cub fan.
Antoine baller When they won the pennant it truly was the most wonderful feeling I’ve ever felt that I can’t describe. The World Series was gut-wrenching, (that 3-1 deficit-holy fuck!) and when they finally won minutes before I had to go to work I was actually pissed off, mad at the Cubs for how much of an emotional and mental roller coaster they put us through. I wasn’t happy, I was just glad the turmoil was finally over. Then I got over it and realized we all witnessed what generations before never even remotely got the chance to witness, and how amazing of a playoff run that ball club had. Can’t wait to see how Ross does as skipper this season. Shoutout to MLB.TV by the way. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to see it across the world!
This championship is for so many people, The underdogs, the freaks, the people that are outsiders and cast outs, the yuppies of wrigleyville, Harry and Jack and so many of us that just feel not part of the in crowd. this is for them and for so many other people. Go Cubs we are no longer the lovable losers!
I put Baez in my book as one of the greatest of all time.. his fielding..ridiculously good.. he might swing and miss but that's because he's always going for it.
From a Red Sox fan in Connecticut that would come home and watch cub afternoon games on WGN while I did homework before the Red Sox played at night. congratulations! You guys deserve this. See you guys next year for Red Sox v Cubs World Series 2017
I'm 60 years old and been avid Cub's fan my entire life, I cried tonight, thinking of all my kin no longer with us, if we go all the way it will be the greatest night of my life ! GO CUBS !
My grandfather watched our Cubs win the World Series in 2016. Me, my uncle, and my grandpa got together to watch that last game and he was so happy to see them win. My grandpa died in 2020 of Alzheimer’s and thanks to my grandma I’m always going to be a loyal Cubs fan
Diehard White Sox fan. I was actually excited and happy when the Cubs FINALLY went all the way in 2016. Something I never thought I'd witness in my lifetime. Great song and video.
I'm a Sox fan, but I totally wish the cubbies the best in this and I hope they really go all the way... they deserve it. Good luck North side friends!! I think yall got this!!
To all Cubs fan, congratulations from an Australian Yankees fan, you were the best in the regular season, you won the pennant because you were the best and you finally triumphed after years of torture and pain, congratulations Cubs, World Champions 2016
Ernie Banks said "Oh, let's play two" Or did he mean 200 years In the same ball park Our diamond, our jewel The home of our joy and our tears Keeping traditions and wishes made new A place where our grandfathers, fathers they grew A spiritual feeling if I ever knew And if you ain't been I am sorry for you And when the day comes with that last winning run And I'm crying and covered in beer I'll look to the sky and know I was right To think today we went all the way Yeah Today we went all the way
I'm an Indians fan, but this song makes me tear up and reminds me of my love for my team as well as Cubs' fans' loyalty. If we had to lose the WS to someone, I'd pick the Cubs. You guys deserve this.
FinchelFan728 the loss you suffered reminds me of our loss to The Marlins with Kerry Wood & Mark Prior. Devastating. Keep the faith and some day soon maybe even this year it will be Cleveland. Unless they are playing the Cubs I will be rooting for the Indians!
After seeing the class and heart of the Indians team and fans I've said it before but I will say it again: I'll always cheer for my Cubbies, but I want to see the Tribe win it all!
So glad that my Grandpa is still around to see this, I grew up seeing games with him (Eddie is right there is nothing better than seeing a game at Wrigley) and watching them with him and my father. He was so sure he would never see it happen, good thing he was wrong.
I'm a huge Cub fan and while it makes my happy it also reminds me of family that has passed prior to the 2016 championship. However, I am comforted believing they had a better seat for the WS clincher than I did.
I'm crying right now... 20 minutes till first pitch!!! Dear Lord, hear our cries!!! Please don't forsake the Cubbies, I beg you to allow us this victory today!!!! amen!!!!
This is for you Ernie Banks Ron Santo and every other Cubs Legend we're not alive to see this 108 year drought is finally over Chicago Cubs Are World Series champs
I'm a New Yorker and I have loved the Cubs for years. I am rooting and hoping that this will be the year that they win it all and finally end the 108 year drought and put an end to the curse of the goat! GO CUBS GO! JUST 4 MORE WINS!!
still strikes a chord. im a teen and my family has been cubs fans for a few generations and this hits. so so so lucky to be born in a perfect time to see them go all the way. four years ago but it seems like just yesterday, ill never forget it
I live in Seattle, and am a die hard Mariners fan, but I am also connected in a way to Chicago, so this is almost as good as if it happened to my own team. Today was the first time I ever heard about this song from Eddie and it gave me chills. Congratulations, boys!! GO CUBBIES!!!!
It all comes down to tomorrow night! Although I am not a Cubs fan (Phillies fan here), I am all in for the Cubs this year! 108 years is long enough, good luck Chicago!!!
They did it. Our Chicago Cubs are going to the World Series. Its a moment of beauty for the greatest city on the planet. Eddie's amazing song is the perfect soundtrack. Peace .n. GO CUBS GO 3ToF
this is an amazing song. tonight Chicago is the happiest place on earth. as a life long cubs fan I couldn't be happier for these amazing 2016 cubs! see you soon Cleveland! best of luck, but you know we want it more!!!!
Total respect for Cubs fans. As a lifetime Philadelphia Eagles fan I can empathize with all of the close calls and heartbreaks before finally winning it all.
I had a tear in my eye the first time I heard this song, and I left it as a dream that I worried may never come true in my lifetime. Today, this dream came true and the song sums up all that this sport and this team means to its fans.
Native southsider, cubs fan as a kid Sox fan most of my life. Chicagoan above all else. Love this team love ths song. Can't hear it without shedding tears. Someday we'll go all the way and that someday is now! GO CUBBIES!!!
The last time and only other time Ive cried because of sports was during Michael Jordan's HOF Speech. Someday was today. Go Cubs Go. Fly. The. Fucking. W.
Dylan Dutcher I've cried after only four sports events for my teams for joy. Watching the Sox in 05. Hawks in 10 and 15 and the Cubs winni the pennant and now I can add this and make it 5
I honestly feel so blessed to be alive to witness this joyful victory! I'm a Cubs fan by marriage, but fully embracing! Thank you, Cubbies! You earned this one.
I teared up when they showed Ron Santo. Too bad he couldn't have been here in person to see the Cubs finally win a World Series. I know he's looking down and is proud
I'm a Mets fan, but the Cubs are my second favorite (my dad lived in Chicago for 10 years) and as much as I love the Mets 2015 run, the 2016 World Series is my favorite. Game 7 I still think is the most exciting game of baseball I've ever watched.
I grew up in Chicago and moved to Asia after college. Went back to the States to spend a half a year as a poolside pirate and poker bum and baseball fan in Vegas, Chicago, and New York in ‘15 and watched the Cubs soundly beat the Mets at Citi Field during the regular season (stayed in Queens for a couple weeks and it was my first trip to America’s greatest city - great experience!) and then watched the Cubs get destroyed by Murphy and the Mets in the NLCS. Went back to the States in ‘16 to watch the final game of the NLCS (at LAX and surrounded at the airport bar by Dodgers fans - another great experience!) and went on to Chicago to watch the Cubs finally end the curse. Had to catch a flight back to Tokyo the morning after Game 7 so I had to leave Chicago and watched the final game on the big screen at the Excalibur and was so fucking nervous I was chain smoking and drinking double fisted throughout the whole game. When Bryant made that accurate throw to Rizzo and Joe Buck said those famous words, “Bryant makes the play! It’s over and the Cubs have finally won it all, 8-7 in 10!” the first emotion I felt was immeasurable relief. That was quickly followed by pure joy. Even after what must’ve been 10 beers and 10 shots of Jameson I then went on to win $500 in the 1/3 NLHE poker game before making my flight back to Tokyo via LA. The happiest night and most joyous 12 hours of flight time of my life. And, yeah, what an exciting game, eh?! But as a Cubs fan that game erased about 10 years from my expected life span. Well worth it, though.
I was at the opening day in 98 the next game after Harry passed and I am amazed that nothing was said of Harry at the Rally. Surprised about that unless i missed the Rickets or Theo dedication to Harry or Jack etc. Nevertheless, Congrads Harry and the Cubs - There is no one that deserves this more than Harry!
I am Chicago born and bred.. Always raised up to like either the White Sox or the Cubs, but I am a fan of Baseball in general so I don't pick sides.. The White Sox won theirs WS title in 2005 after a long drought now the Cubs did it in 2016 after 108 years of wait, I am glad the WS trophy goes back to Chicago.
Blue Jays fan here as well... I concur. Congrats Chicago Cubs and your fans. Just please don't become arrogant like the Red Sox fans did after they finally won again in 2004 after a long drought.
Thank you Toronto!!! After the Blackhawks won the cup in 2010, it took a while but I finally broke down crying watching the parade. I'm sure I'm gonna break down again soon enough after witnessing & experiencing everything that happened today. Hockey is still my favorite sport of all, and I know Leafs have been waiting for there turn for their day of glory. But I honestly feel that very soon I will be seeing the Leafs hoist the Stanley Cup, and I will be cheering for them every step of the way there.
Still amazed they did it!!!!!! Now one year later and they are once again headed to the post season. I know many people have been saying repeat. But lets not get ahead of ourselves. This ones for all those Angels in the outfield you might not be with us but I know you where there in that celebration pile that night.
My friend, lets do it again. We gotta beat the Nats one more time tomorrow, and we'll be onto the NLCS. If we win there, we have a good chance we could win it all again. Believe my friend, believe.
24 Cleveland fans didn't like this.. C'mon the Cavs won this year. You have to like this. If not you have no heart. PS The Indians did a fantastic job this year and that's coming from a Red Sox fan
Red Sox fan who cried like a baby when listening to this song the night the Cubies finally became champions. I pity any sports fan who isn't broken up at least a little by this. Coming from a Yankees fan you guys really deserved it. 108 years of heartbreak 108 years of frustration your Cubs are finally world series champions!
Thomas Rowan Thanks! See you in May!
It happened, Eddie. I’m crying now. Let’s rebuild this team, let’s get the magic of 2016 back. I really hope Rizzo, Báez and Bryant come back.
This song epitomizes how special the Cubs are. The camaraderie of the fans, the team. I am still shedding tears of happiness from 5 years ago. Go Cubs Go! ❤️💙

@Daniel Le Epstein is pretty much a genius when it comes to constructing a baseball team. He did this with both his Red Sox and Cubs teams.

Ernie Banks said "Oh, let's play two"
Or did he mean 200 years
In the same ball park
Our diamond, our jewel
The home of our joy and our tears
Keeping traditions and wishes made new
A place where our grandfathers, fathers they grew
A spiritual feeling if I ever knew
And if you ain't been I am sorry for you
And when the day comes with that last winning run
And I'm crying and covered in beer

"Don't let anyone tell you that it's just a game,
for I've seen other games and it's never the same."
Wrigley Field is like walking into Heaven!!!!
Scott Skorupa Never been, want to go
Thanks for this tribute Philip Carava and Eddie Vedder, it brings tears ; )
Let's get some views on this, send it to all of your friends and family!
182mdew I wish my grandpa could've been around for a few more years...he would've been able to die knowing we were loyal fans for a reason
You finally went all the way. Congrats Cubs fans. Well earned.
Happy 1 month and 2 week anniversary cubs fans.. still feels awesome watched whole game again.. wow!!!!!! let's go #flythew
WAVES of goosebumps...
Holy Cow! We did it Harry! The Chicago Cubs have finally won the World Series!
Vegasus i loaf this comment
Jaiden Panici Well last time the Cubs won WS was before Slice bread was invented.

I AM CRYING RIGHT NOW
Me too. Me too.
Greatest day of my life.
I can't stop crying, today we went all the way 😭
Congrats Cubs fans. You deserve it. From a Jays/Leafs fan.
Blue Jays fan here as well...
I concur. Congrats Chicago Cubs and your fans.
Just please don't become arrogant like the Red Sox fans did after they finally won again in 2004 after a long drought.
Sounds like a fair deal. Nobody likes a sore winner.
Can't stop listening! #TODAYWEWENTALLTHEWAY
Thanx Eddie, this just made the whole thing even better!

That 108 year old woman finally witnessed her favorite team win
You went all the way!!! The curse is history!!! 👑🏆⚾️
It starts tonight, buddy. Let's do it again!!!
2024 I still don't believe it......
This is great! Thanks!
Beautiful, Eddie. Sums up how we all feel.
24 Cleveland fans didn't like this.. C'mon the Cavs won this year. You have to like this. If not you have no heart. PS The Indians did a fantastic job this year and that's coming from a Red Sox fan
CHILLS!!! So many of my heroes as a kid and to this day! See you in Wrigleyville!
