Eddie wrote this at the request of Ernie Banks. Ernie wanted a "Cubs Anthem" and Eddie Vedder was the only person Ernie wanted to write and sing the song.
I grew up on the north side in the 50's with a Cub's fan for a father and the running joke in the family was 'the first words I learned to speak as a baby were "maybe next year"'. Next year is NOW, wish my dad was alive to see it happen!!
I wonder if this will change you poeple. I mean 104 years. It was a way of life an institution. Tradition. Generations of families were raised on this maybe next year.
In 1988 my 77-year-old grandmother who was a lifelong Cubs fan was on her deathbed with cancer and was watching the Cubs game and said to me "Well it doesn't look like the Cubs are going to do it this year" 5 minutes later she passed away and those were her final words. GO CUBS!!
My grandfather and my uncle were both die hard cubs fans. Both passed away. My uncle was buried in a Cubs jersey. He wasn't a man that dressed formally. He did wear suits on occasion but for the most part he was very casual. He died from a blood clot in 2009. My grandfather died in 2012 from cancer. They loved the cubs. I believe that they were cheering and celebrating the Cubs world series victory from heaven.
Congrats to the Cubs and their fans from a die hard Mets fan! I don't care who you are, if this video doesn't give you chills, you're not a baseball fan.
I'm a cubs fan ,grew up bleeding blue always pretended to be a cub when I was pitching or batting. I now am 43 and live In ohio but still a diehard fan and still get a tear listening to this song
I'm a Yankees fan. I've had my luck of seeing my team win it all. But I'll never forget watching the Cubs win it all. I was with other fellow Yankees fans watching game 7 against the Indians. They didn't want to watch it, but I forced them to watch history. Baseball history. And they and I were all glad we did watch the Cubs win it all in an incredible fashion. W
2923.and still here... remember when I was 8 yrs old sneaking out to Wrigley to watch Sandberg, Grace, and Dawson play. Never forget when I fell trying to get Sandberg's autograph and him and Grace grabbing me from the ground. I was born a cubs fan, live a cubs fans, and will die a cubs fan 🔴⚪🔵☝🏽
Even though I'm not a Cubs fan (I did root for them in the 2016 World Series though), visiting Wrigley Field is on my bucket list, and should always be the Cubs home.
Today! I'm crying watching the interviews listening to this song. I can't help but think about all the fans that have come and gone. This one is for them! If your are a Cubs fan, you are a friend of mine..... Love you all.... Go Cubs go!
I'm writing this with tears in my eyes 12+ hours after watching one of my dearest dreams come true. My old man wasn't around to teach me the ways of being a Cub fan. But this morning I showed my son what our beloved Cubs did. That's the beauty of this game, the highs and lows create real magic. Thank you Chicago Cubs! Here's to the future and more WS titles to come!
After trading away Bryant, Rizzo, and Baez, all of us Cubs fans will be back to singing this song. Someday.....because we have dismantled the greatest Cubs team to ever exist. 7-30-21, is a sad day to be a Cubs fan.
We are having a terrible season, one of the worst in many years, how can we fix it?? Simple, get rid of most of our best players.Steve Goodman was right , we are the doormat of the national league and Wrigley field is their ivy-covered burial ground.
I feel like there's no other team that evokes quite the loyalty and love as the Cubbies. Foul weather fans, for life, sticking to the boys through thick and thin, waiting so long for that day when it finally happened. I feel great pride to be in love with the Cubs.
back in 2012 my dad passed away I remember he was one of the biggest cubs fans i could ever know i remember sitting down for each of these games and thinking of hi the whole way through and how happy he would of been to see his cubs win it all. I also remember the day after going into my calculus class to have my teacher play this video and i could only think of my dad and i was in tears for about a good hour thinking about how i wished he could of seen it and everyone else who didn't get to make it too to watch them win it I've always been a cubs fan and always will be to be honest i don't really care that much if we get another world series yes it would be awesome to get another one but i feel this one in 2016 will be the most remembered one for years and years to come
I was never a fan of baseball, but i understand loyalty and dedication and we have heard of the Cub struggle to go all the way, so to all you Cub's fan's out there, celebrate and cheer, smile and cry, it makes me smile to know you guys made it. One hell of an example to never loose hope.
Being that I love The Cubs and The Red Sox equally, my only disappointment is that The Cubs couldn't have won against The Yankees like The Red Sox won against The Cardinals in 2004.
This is one of the best songs for a sports team I’ve ever heard. This and Go Cubs Go are the best sports songs I’ve ever heard ! Go Cubbies !!! I can say I saw them win it all !!!
Cubs fans are some of the best in the League, in my opinion. Because like the lyrics say, "We're not fair weather, but foul weather fans!" Cubs fans are in it for the long haul, we knew our faith in them would be rewarded
@@Mr-Trox so true ! Even if we lose for another 200 years I’ll always be a Cubs fan for life. As bill murray said being a Cubs fan also teaches you life lessons. You’re not gonna win all the time but when you do it’s special.
I'm glad Eddie did this song. I was never able to put into words why being a Cubs fan is different, but Eddie did. From one northsider to another, thanks.
A week after the Cubs won it in 2016 I was on an airplane listening to this song on my old IPOD. The person next to me was wondering why I was tearing up, but understood when he listened to the song.
I felt the same. My Daddy got me into baseball, I was raised on "There's always next year" and was genuinely surprised to learn Take Me Out To The Ballgame wasn't written by Harry Caray and changed for the rest of the league. He died in 2006, but I only hope he was up there with his Grandaddy and Great-Grandaddy and Harry Caray rooting for the Cubbies when they finally broke the curse and won it all.
My college boyfriend and best friend would show this to me at least once a month. He was a massive cubs fan. He passed away this week at 27 years young. I remember he would tear up every time and get major goosebumps. Watching this again is now giving me tears in my eyes because it brings me back to him and our time together in college. I miss you Ryan.
Stay with me through this. I am a resident of Arizona, so I am well aware of the culture and the love that Cubs fans have for their beloved Cubs. I am a yankee fan from birth, however I am a baseball fan first. Whatever is best for baseball is where my interests lie. I was watching this video on 8/28/17 and the first thing I said was "Holy S&() The cubs won a world series. Still amazed it actually happened. Good for you all you loyal cub fans and that you could share that with family and friends who are young and old. Congrats for the fans who suffered so long and are now able to rest in peace. Good for the Cubs fans and Good for Baseball. I have always said if the Yankees dont win it, Id like to see the Cubs win, because it is best for baseball!
This song still makes me cry. I can’t help but think of all the fans who left us on earth and didn’t get to see this. Then I think of Harry Caray. I would have loved to have seen his reaction. It still seems like a dream the Cubs won it all.
It was one of the best moments in my life to see my Cubbies win. My Dad died in 2006, to see his team win would have made his life. I've loved my team my whole life, and to finally see them win was just amazing. My team of lovable losers, of underdogs and "maybe next years" finally did it, and goddamn did it feel amazing.
I’m from Jacksonville, and this song always gets me and makes me smile. I know our boys will go all the way one day and I think of how I’ll be blaring this song when the Jags finally hoist the Lombardi.
God...the Cubs are why I’m a sports fan. And I think I speak for all of us when I say that the 2016 season will always get me emotional. We saw the Cubs win it all
I still can't make it through this song without crying. We went all the way, but this is for my Dad, and all those moments where I never thought it could happen.....

This is the year, the World Series hangover is gone, we've got the best rotation in the league up to this point, the offense looks like it did in 2016, if we can trade for an elite closer like we did in 2016 the bullpen will be manageable.. This is our best chance we've had since 2016, let's deliver on the dynasty we were promised back when we won it all.

im glad i am from ILLINOIS! Proud of my favorite team winning that World Series!
It has finally happened
I still tear up to this !❤️👍
Our Cubs won, we went all the way
From the heart Eddie! Love your song, Thank you
HEY BUDDY, TRIBE IS UP 3-1 IN THE SERIES!!!!!!!!!!! CUBS STILL SUCK!!!!!!!! HILLARY CLINTON IS A CUBS FAN ENOUGH SAID!!!!!!!!!!!! GO TRIBE
Oh whatever. WTF does Clinton being a Cubs fan have to do with any of it. Do we have to drag politics into every fucking thing, for chrissakes???
He-Man Go suck on that 3-1 lead. Guess who won?
I love this song! Go Cubs Go from Belgium!
It ddint work out this year but we still have next year GO cubs
@@steelblueninja294 There's always next year...
This is heart breaking to watch now that the 2016 cubs are practically done
Win or lose baby
I have never not cried when I watch this.
While I am a Phillies fan, I gotta hand it to the Cubs. You fought hard and you earned it. Well done Cubs!!!
Almost 3 weeks later and I still can't believe my Cubbies finally did it.
Maybe not all here in the comments are fans of the Cubs, but all are fans of Eddie.
Its nice how music can join all of you.
