this film marked my life a lot and only increased my desire to fulfill my dream, which is to explore the world, to visit new places, to connect more with nature, without having to kill animals of course, why this is living, instead to live a routine of working 8 hours a day, paying bills and cleaning the house.

Interesting story portrayed by actors playing parts in a story based loosely on a real story which did not end well for the main character. Not the first movie with the story line of man rejecting a material life. Wont be the last. Movies are not a guide for living a life. At best movies tell a story and maybe, just maybe, get you to think on the message a director is trying to tell.

I commented just a bit ago, but I would like to add being out in nature is the best medicine. I have wicked depression. I really don't like to be around people. Remote camping in the wild is, to me, the cure. Life is simple. No TV. No running water. There is an amazing place here in Colorado I was introduced to many years ago. It's an area that is popular for deer and elk hunting in the fall. There is dispersed camping where there are no designated camping sites, no toilets, nothing. Total freedom. Be comfortable with no phone service. Be comfortable with doing your business out in the woods that follows the guidelines of the National park or State park. These simple ways bring me so, so much happiness

My mother passed yesterday.. all I wanted to do was go on one last adventure with her. Fix all that had gone wrong between us. I never got to say goodbye because I was too scared by then to face her. Now I have to carry her ashes with me to places we should have traveled together when she was alive.. and live with the regret of not making it in time to say goodbye. There is no easy trade off to going no contact. It hurts sometimes no matter what you do. All we can do is example the better parts of those we lost, in honor of the person they tried to be.. and the happy memories shared.

so....yeah, crying as I listen to this in 10/2020 just as tears flowed and flowed at the end of this movie when I saw it, in the theater....which I saw well after reading the book. This was the music of my coming of age, and this movie represented a lot of us resless spirits that lived in mountain communities making just enough money during any "on season" so that you could cram in to a van with the person you loved at the time and go and see what the roads, waves, mountains, rivers, crags and hills had to offer this time around. It wasn't just the road, or the mountains or the politics that united us, it was the music, music was our church our bible and our God.
