I haven’t been able to build a gaming pc for months now. Gpu market is completely screwed up in my country. All over priced and the ones that are decently priced gone within a minute or a scam. I did pick up 1 and half car (suv) full of pc parts and gadgets from deceased pc shop owner. It all old but some really cool stuff in it. Included a few vintage cpu like cyrix and amd k6 also included a GeForce 6800, 2x Radeon 9800 pro and many more retro cards. Besides that 3 functional 775 PCs, 2x 775 motherboards, hard drives, lots of ddr and a little ddr2 ram, new mice, new keyboards, 6 monitors, speakers, sound blaster audio cards, lan cards, WiFi cards, usb cards, box full of coolers, box full of fans, 7 low wattage psu’s, psu tester, 40 or so c13 power cords, vga cables, screw a lot of screws, Molex to sata adapters, laptop stand and many more. A lot of stuff still in packaging and all that for €125.

Brian, I enjoy your videos and use them as inspiration for my deal hunting. In the last two weeks, I've gotten $300 worth of SSDs for around $120 and a GTX 1060 3gb for $80. I realized that finding good deals isn't all that difficult if you know where to look. A guy at a flea market had some 3tb WD blacks for $15 each. I wish I had more money because I would have bought the entire bin of hard drives for ~$10 each as an offer.

In the US, the RX6500xt has popped up for MSRP several times over the past week, each time staying in stock for maybe 10 minutes, sometimes 20, sometimes an hour. When they are listed for $270, it doesn't look like they are moving.
So, the status seems to be that they do sell at $200, they don't really sell very well at $270.

The RX6500XT is a terrible product. It offers GTX1650 Super level performance, but only on a PCIe 4 motherboard. Meanwhile, it doesn’t have basic video codec support. The RX6500, on a PCIe 3 config offers you mid-range performance from 2014 (lol rly). It’s not worth 200 bucks and, frankly, you can get a 1660 6GB (non-super) that will soundly outperform the 6500xt, for about 230 bucks if you have a little patience on eBay (everyone chases the 1660 super).
That said, my gut says the floor really is about to fall-out under GPU pricing, as the crypto unwinds and miners throw in the towel (increasing energy costs, increasing crypto volatility, rebasing to proof of stake for ETH, various governments tapping down crypto, etc.). Hell, for those that get out early (and paid wholesale for their GPUs) they’ll probably make more money liquidating their infrastructure than they did mining in the last 12 months.

When I used to parts hustle I had a 2nd gen i5 system complete with 850w psu that could power almost any gpu, always had current gpu drivers for both amd and nvidia on thumb drives, with a power inverter and extra car battery in my trunk so that I could test parts on site. I did software OC on my earlier Intels (2nd & skylake gens) to stretch until 9th gen (were not k chips). Ended up with a like new asrock z390 itx-ac, 9600k, 32gb, which does OC decently though I do feel I should have went i7/ryzen 7 minimum looking back. Board I got was rated to support 9900k well, just didn't think I needed that premium experience back then. Am planning to go premium on next build though getting tired of the midrange gaming experience. I remember stepping up to 16 gb and then 32 gb ddr4 was a huge difference in not having to monitor my usage for the games I play.

Seeing as you have an EK CPU water block *and* the 1080TI Sea Hawk, I'd be opting to make a custom water cooled PC. Use soft tube like the EK ZMT for ease of maintenance and being black, it'll look subtle but good. _Surprised that the 1080TI is still commanding such a high price; I have two SLI'ed in my secondary rig with EK blocks on them._

Even if you buy all Chinese parts it's gonna be expensive and time consuming to build, most people that have money to burn on custom water cooling want to have current hardware.

Definitely custom w/c build for this sweet SeaHawk! 1080Ti is still a beast of a card and it deserves the best.
P.S. You already have a X99 + w/block combo right next to it! Cant you see?

if you don't want to go through all the trouble of Liquid cooling that 1080TI u could always take the more simple and less expensive rout and order a Arctic Accelero Extreme GPU cooler and put that on it. That GPU cooler is one of the best coolers you can get for the 1080TI, it was almost made specifically for that card.

Still using my P9X79Pro since late 2018. Also picked it up with an i73820, 32GB DDR3 RAM (8x4GB sticks), and a Hyper 412S Cooler master....totaled $220 at the time. Very happy with this motherboard, which I paired with an E5-1680V2. Kept the RAM and sold-off/repurposed the rest. WIth a PcCooler GI-D66A, I am easily managing 4.3Ghz OC with this setup...the rig with run stable at 4.5GHz...although I seldom go there day to day.

Wish I was able to have that 1080 ti seahawk as my gpu just died on my setup and have no way to replace it after having two strokes back in feb. 2021 and needing heart surgery this year, all while being laid off over medical reasons and trying to stay sane for me and my kids sake. but I really enjoyed the video and wish you the best of luck on more future finds!

I would love to see a custom loop build that you intend to flip, that would be nice for the customer if you include the fill and drain ports in the loop, and the pump is at the bottom of the loop.

  • @cppctek

I’d totally grab a cheap radiator and pump off eBay or aliexpress and keep the seahawk original. That’s a rare card and I’d totally buy it for the right price if I was local. I love waterblocked cards. My 3090 and 3080 are custom water cooled and have insane low temps. Nothing looks better than a good custom loop

Got a brandnew AMD 6700XT (~2080TI) for around 600 - 650 bucks, bought a customized pre-built that was 400 bucks off. In many cases the best you can do at present to get a GPU for a fair price

Solar on the house was so great while it lasted, really heats the pool up nicely. Had it installed 30 years ago and it lasted many years. Am curious about the pcie 3 vs 4 performance difference. Another channel had said it shouldn't be much but 9th gen intel, am not sure if it is a huge hit. Next upgrade personally will likely be AM5 and next gpus. There is that market perception, a lot of streamers for the games I play seem to use nvidia gpus, and people like my friend just copied their favorite streamer's rig. AMD gpus do well with Linux but was able to easily run last year DOTA2 1440p Linux Manjaro KDE 3060, 1060 still ran 1080/1440p @ 30 fps lol. Another friend of mine still is on his RX580 until the new nvidia gpus releases. I gave up on our other friend who wouldn't go Intel, used, or lower expectations/prebuilt, was originally 700 budget US then upped the amount to 1k budget. $1k is a cut off mentally for some people, that 1k once bought more than it does currently. The longer people have waited the worse the purchasing power got, she could have had a decent rig by now. The market isn't going to change to fit everyone's wants. ETH moving to PoS could also lower some certain gpu's prices but Bitcoin will still be mined. Still some people might panic sell just not as many as in the past, after ETH is PoS.

gtx 1070, gtx 1080 best choices.
    1080 ti, 1060, r9 290/x, r9 280/x following.
Rtx 3060, 3060ti (lhr), rx 6700xt, 6600xt can also be bought for decent prices somtimes. 6700xt especially in my experience.
Obviously depends on actual specific price, but in general.

Please do a custom loop with the 1080ti, it would be great to see that card performance under liquid and it in a vertical GPU mount. also be ways of cleaning the block.
