Got the Switch 5 years ago when it was released and always intended on getting BotW but some how 5 years slipped by. I picked up the game a month ago when I took two weeks off from my job. During my play time I was looking up reviews and other content on BotW and I ran into this video. I was still about halfway through the game so I did not want to spoil the game for myself.

Keep in mind the waypoint leading me to Impa was active the entire time, I just didn't feel like going towards it lol. After beating Zora's Domain I went to Impa and she told me all the plot stuff. One if my most memorable moments playing this game for the first time was when I went to my first divine beast.
I decided to go to Rito first, since it was one of the things that grabbed my attention at the beginning.
I somehow ended up on the back end of the chasm that the village was in, so I couldn’t see the bridge on the other end. I’m racking my brain for like 10 minutes about how on earth I’m gonna get up there, and I then decide that I just have to craft some stamina potions.
I spend about an hour gathering resource, before warping back to that spot and starting the long climb up to the village. I used all my potions and just BARELY made it up to the Rito village.
The music starting up as I sat there and felt so accomplished was amazing…
Until I realized that there was a bridge on the other side…

You know ... I think one of my favorite things about the Korok Seeds is that they're a direct testament to the excellence of the map design. So the entire concept is if you see something "weird" or "out of place", like a rock all on its own or a set of three fruit trees or a group of boulders, it's probably a Korok Seed. In order for that to work as a game mechanic, there must not be anything in the game that looks "fake" that _isn't_ a Korok Seed. They're explicitly training their players to search out things in the game world that look even the slightest bit unnatural, and to expect a reward for finding those things. They can't do this unless they're 100% certain that their world design looks completely and totally natural and organic. And they pull this off beautifully. It's really incredible if you think about it.

The word "blue" is generally the latest colour addition to any language. Also I think the Greeks referred to the sea as "wine dark". And the sky? A guy raised his daughter without ever saying "the sky is blue", and when she was about 8 he asked her what colour the sky is and at first she said "white". Eventually she chose blue, but even so it wasnt super clear that it was blue to her.
Then you look at some of the still-Tribal groups across the world. In colour perception tests, they struggle to tell between blue and green, but manage to perceive differences between various shades of green really easily, because blue doesn't appear much in nature.
Of ancient civilisations, pre Roman, the first society to come up with a regular standardised word for blue that wasnt just a modifier to green was the Egyptians, and that's probably because they had the ability to make blue dye.

  • @The_Story_Of_Us
    @The_Story_Of_Us Рік тому +10

I think there's more character development than Arlo gives the game credit for. Zelda's arc in this game is the best one ever put in a Zelda game, period. Those cutscenes carry some incredibly emotional moments because of that.
I mean take Link for example:
A passive bit of storytelling actually tells us that Zelda was able to get through his silent exterior and he tells her he doesn't want to talk because of the weight of his immense responsibility, preferring to just silently bear the burden inside. Not only does this detail about the character and his relationship with Zelda allow her to speak candidly with him on an intimately personal level in the memories, not only is it layered because she initially resents him for his silence as she interprets it as him judging her for her failure to awaken her powers despite seeming a natural at his own duties, but it also blends perfectly into the Link you get to play as, because while he awakens and is just silently confused, you don't go 5 minutes before you get to choose Link's dialogue to an extent no Zelda game has ever allowed you to, and he's a real people person (unless you make him act like a dick for some reason) who seems very easygoing and cheerful (his conversations with Hudson in the Tarrey Town Sidequest make you pick a response to almost his every sentence, creating a conversation so two-way by Link's conventional standards that it's almost comical). That feeds back into his characterization in the way that he wouldn't normally be silent, he's silent only because it's his way of coping with extreme pressure, and him dealing with that allows Zelda to relate to him and therefore feel comfortable talking to him about things that bother her, which deepens their relationship to the point where she grows to love him, which finally awakens her powers when she desperately tries to shield him from a Guardian about to kill him.
Just this one character detail about Link spins into this web of character development that's integral to the story and the plot. And there's a lot more to go around as well. Like the way each champion helps inform or mirror some aspects of Zelda and Link's relationship and characterization. Like how in the japanese version, the entire quest log is written in first person as Link's personal diary of events, letting you in on his inner thoughts and reactions to everything around him (sadly lost in the english translation). And not to mention the community's favourite fish lady Mipha and her tragic unrequited love for our main man in blue, lost because she was too anxious to tell him how she felt and propose to him before being killed by Ganon. But again, there's so much more, and a lot of it isn't just watching cutscenes, it's connecting the dots between those cutscenes and other forms of passive storytelling, linking all the threads together into a comprehensive web of backstory for this world and its main characters in a way that's far more cohesive than most Zelda games.
And yes, the english voice dub is horrible and I don't care, because the original language is japanese, the art style and execution is distinctly anime, so I play with the japanese voices on and it's far more enjoyable. Dubs are for children. Subs are for people who can read.
And as for that comment about the ending where Arlo complains about there not being any more plot... after the plot concluded with the thing that was set up as the main objective like 100 hours ago from the very beginning... 'I was upset that there wasn't any more plot... After the plot ended.'
I can't even argue with that, like that's just... 'This cake sucked because there was no more cake after I ate it' XD

with what you said about the importance of nature persisting despite the calamity, it's one of the things that makes the game so close to my heart. i think there are things about this game thematically that touch on trauma, in general, in a very special way. when i lost someone tragically i often thought about the fact that nature persisted, and that gave me great comfort. link's silence and the relaxing soundtrack, added to the majority of the gameplay being adventuring alone, almost gave me a sense of companionship with another lonely wounded soul whose world was changed irreversibly. i never rly see link as a stand in for me as a gamer, more like someone i have empathy for who i'm guiding on an internal healing journey as well as an external saving-the-world journey. and the way the game contrasts link's internal journey--the fact that he really isn't Just a lawful hero, that he is chaotic and loves to cook and the pressure put on him as the chosen one is often to his detriment emotionally--and his external mission to save zelda and avenge the champions, makes it even more nuanced and complex. it's like the player IS the midna or navi or fi of the game, it feels a lot closer and vulnerable and PERSONAL to bare witness to link's activities in the past and present. it is genuinely a healing experience to play this game in the same way it's healing to be in nature.

When it makes eye contact with you as long as you are unarmed it will passively watch, it will swap between bow and melee as you do, it will fight honorable and fair, your skills against it, it is the monster that shows you the peak choices you might have in combat. You cannot however invade a certain amount of its personal space without enraging it. The thing i like most about botw and i guess now totk is that when you walk into a shrine you know you have everything you need to complete it. I hardly ever had to look up the solution to a shrine. In any other zelda game you may walk into a dungeon room and you won't even have an inkling of a notion of what you're supposed to do. You may need an item or to speak to some random villager or do a different room first. Dungeons are frustrating because when you finally get the answer by chance or like "well how was i supposed to know that??" but shrines are dedicated puzzles meant to be solved in one session. The question i ask in a shrine is "alright, next step?" not "what am i meant to do??".
In zelda games your companion will give you tips you already knoe about mechanics. But you could be in a dungeon for hours and they'll never say "oi you don't have the item you need for here yet".
I'll take shrines any day of the week over a dungeon

I wholeheartedly agree, I think there is definitely an appeal to being utterly lost in a huge Temple or Dungeon, but this new system of NEVER requiring any tools from outside that space makes it not only more fun to solve and approachable, but allows for the non-linear approach as a player who has already tackled 2-3 other dungeons will not only have different tools but think about tackling the puzzles in new, exciting, and probably faster ways to justify their prior discoveries and learning.

Look I know this is a 3 year old video and you probably aren't going to see this, but I wanted to make a comment of defense regarding the story and the ending. Link "beats" Ganon but what really finishes him is Zelda figuring out how to use her power: the thing that was stressed and emphasized and repeated so many times throughout the game. But what's really interesting is that the only two times in the game she ever uses it, she uses it for Link. Once when he fell while defending her from the guardians, and then to aid Link and seal Ganon off forever. I think that's a nice little plot point you missed. Another thing, about the secret ending that's unlocked after finding all the memories, it's a little less disappointing than you think. The biggest side quest in the game, Tarrey Town, ends in a wedding between the house guy and a Gerudo with flower petals all through the air. After the wedding if you talk to the house guy he will tell you about the symbolism of flower petals to relationships, love, and marriage. In the final memory, as the camera pans out, we see thousands of flower petals surrounding the two protagonists of the series, representing the start, or RESTART of their relationship. I think that's another great example of the game rewarding you for exploring and trusting you to be smart enough to put two and two together. If anyone read this, thanks lol. It was a long one.

Oh I am finally done beating Breath of the Wild. Finally. As of this comment, Tears of the Kingdom has recently come out. So I am late to beating Breath of the Wild. So I don't mean to brag. I defeated Ganon. Plus I did all the shrines and divine beasts. It is nice watching this big review and see Arlo gush all over it. Your welcome. :)
    1. Exploration. Breath of the Wild is my favorite game. The greatest thing about it is the exploration. My favorite video game of all time is World of Warcraft. Breath of the Wild reminded me of that. Both games have a lot of opean world stuff. I wonder if Nintendo was checking out Blizzard's World of Warcraft. That could explain quite a bit. Breath of the Wild was where I discovered that I was an explorer kind of gamer in Bartel's taxonomy. That is special. I like to go out and explore in the game. I like to enjoy the natural scenery, fill out the map, gather items, do quests and fight enemies. It is a good time. Breath of the Wild heavily emphasizes this. The towers fill in the map. There are items found in the world. They are used for food, elixers, weapons and armor upgrades. There are shrines to boost health and stamina. There are plenty of main quests and side quests. Story is gained through memories. Inventory space is gained by koroks. There is so much that is gained from going into an area and poking around. It is truely amazing. Arlo seems to be an explorer too. So he enjoys the game too. I do appreciate that he defended weapon breakage and koroks. These two parts are so underrated. They really benefit the explorer type. Getting a good weapon is all the more rewarding. Even if it identicle to something I already have, it is still rewarding. It is nice to know that the new item can be a good replacement when the old item inevitably breaks. I get more weapons than I can use, so running out of them isn't that bad. Later in my playthrough, I liked to hunt hinox. This is good whenever I run low on good weapons. Koroks are good as a little mini puzzle to find in the wild. The extra weapon and shield slots are nice. It is great for explorers, because it gives that more of a reward for poking around. This also pokes fun at another type of player, the achiever. Yeah there are a bagillion korok seeds, but only about half of them are needed for the spaces. Finding all of them gets a reward of a golden poop. That is hilarious. Personally I get Koroks whenever I notice a puzzle. Otherwize I don't go out of my way to find them. Unfortunately I have seen disturbing UA-cam videos of players torturing koroks in Tears of the Kingdom. Poor little guys :(. Aparently not all players get the joke.
    2. Presentation. This game is so gorgeous. I am not going to picky about the graphics. The game shows nature in a very beautiful way. I love that stuff. I can't complain. I just love nature in general. Whether it is Hyrule or Azaroth, whenever I am in nature, I am in my happy place. I especially like forests. The character designs are pretty cool too. I prefer Link looking more mature. He can make a cute kid I guess. However the more mature version is something I find more attractive. One perk of Breath of the Wild is that it does have one of my favorite Link designs. It us good. Since I am going to spend hours and hours playing the game, it is nice to have that eye candy. Heck there are even bits of fan service. There is nothing extreme enough to warrant a T or M rating. Yet there is some stuff. There was the time Link wakes up the the resurection chamber. Then there was the Eventide Isle and Blood Moon shrine quests. At one point, Link goes to the desert area and crossdresses. Yeah, that happened. Oh la la. There are two amusng comments. Arlo isn't sure what the Gerudo town is based on. I am thinking of Saudi Arabia or at least something in the Middle East. I guess Egypt is a good enough guess. The town looks like something out of Disney's Aladdin. It is wierd for Arlo to desire cyberpunk Zelda. That seems a bit too off brand, since Zelda is a fantasy series. I even get the impression that the Sheikah stuff is magic. I can get the link to tech, as it is noticable in some parts. The Shiekah slate resembles a smartphone. It even vomes with a camera app. The survey towers resemble radio towers. Tears of the Kingdom did manage to deliver on Arlo's wish. It uses special magic or technology to build machines. So that does get into cyberpunk.

    • @c.d.dailey8013
      @c.d.dailey8013 9 місяців тому +1

      3. Story. I think the way the story was delivered was brilliant. The amount of story one has to go through is very minimal. Link wakes up from a chamber with amnesia. He has to help Zelda and defeat Ganon. That is about it. Even with the divine beasts added, it isn't much. This is actually a good thing. Story can get in the way of gameplay. It doesn't bother me personally. However I have heard that complaint before. The Pokemon games get this criticism a lot especially Sun and Moon. Given that Zelda is from the same company as Pokemon, the developers probably got the memo and acted accordingly. I think that is the real reason why the obligatory story is so minimal. Some players want to just go out and explore Hyrule without fussing about what happened a century ago. Story and lore are a double edged sword. Some people love that stuff for being interesting. Some people hate it for being boring. It is polarizing. The game has a brilliant compromise. It makes most cutscenes of the story optional. This is done by searching for the memories. So only the people that are into the story and search for the memories, while others can easily skip them. Personally I liked the memories. I unlocked them early on in my playthrough. I thought the game ending was fine. I just beat the game, so it was fresh in my mind. Calamity Ganon was a decent challenge. I like how all six characters get together and work as a team. Link is the beating Ganon directly, like a tank. Zelda blasts with her incredible light magic. The remaining four blast Ganon with their divine beasts. That is so cool. It is all the more touching when I got to know the characters. My favorite part of the memories was Zelda herself. Zelda and Peach go together in my mind. Both are Nintendo princesses. Both suffered from the misogynistic trope of damsel in distress. I am so happy for them to be upgraded to a modern feminist time while still being iconic characters in Nintendo. I am pleasantly surprised by both. In Breath of the Wild Zelda works hard in developing her magic powers. She also works hard in studying. I never thought of Zelda having a nerdy side, but there you go. When push comes to shove, Zelda can be an incredibly powerful character in her own right. This is in the last memory as well as the end of the game. Peach was awesome in the Super Mario Brothers movie. She took charge as an actual ruler. She also gets into the exciting platforming action, and even teaches Mario. That is awesome. Breath of the Wild has six main characters in a team. I like how that team is gender balanced. Zelda, Mipha and Urbosa are female. Link, Daruk and Revali are male. There is way more emphasis on teamwork as opposed to rescue. I think teamwork is a lot more wholesome. Arlo does criticizes the story a lot. I can see where he is coming from. It is just that I am not expecting an engaging and well written story from a video game. So the shortcomings don't bother me that bad. I do know a good compromise. Just make more collectable memories. Then there is ample room to flesh out the plot and character of the story. I think this system can be taken so much further. A player in a game can explore an old ruin. Then they unlock the lore of the place in its heyday. The player can be an archeologist. That would be cool.
      4. Difficulty. Difficulty is tricky in this game. There is no leveling system. This actually benefits the exploration. A player can go anywhere they want. A big part is that there are no artificial roadblocks preventing a player from doing adventures in a different order. Another part is that enemies are equally strong in different areas. So one isn't locked out of a specific area because fighting is too hard. As an explorer I like either having no leveling at all or level scaling. Without a traditional level system, there is less limits to exploration. The closest thing Breath of the Wild has to a level system is the accumulation of shrines with spirit orbs. Even then shrines can be completed in any order. One can also get stronger by weapon and armor upgrades. It takes some getting used to, but it is fine. A general rule of thumb is that games should be easy to pick up and hard to master. Breath of the Wild excels at this rule. One the easy side one can wander the wilderness picking mushrooms and fruit. They can fight the occasional weak bokoblin. This is good for when I am a new player or I am coming back from a long hiatus. On the difficult side there is lots of challenge. The bosses in the overworld and in dungeons are very challenging to defeat. They are a good test of gear and movement. A lot of the puzzles can get difficult too. Arlo is criticizing about stuff that is too easy. I don't see it that way. I think he may have benefitted from something like a master mode or a challenge run. I have two nitpicks on difficulty progression. This is things to improve. One improvement is to remove the progression of lynals. They are already tough enough as is. There are plenty in Hyrule. So there are more than enough individual lynals for each type. I didn't start fighting lynals until late in the game. I completed all shrines and dungeons by then. I wanted to wait until I was ready. By them most lynals have already upgraded to silver. Weaker lynals are too rare to provide good practice. It seemed unfair. It is better to either not progress lynals at all or make their progression separate from the progression of other monsters. I beat a silver lynal once. After that I took down Ganon. Another improvement is to balance the Divine Beast. The Blights are not that bad, once one has good gear. The real challenge in a Divine Beasts is the puzzles. Some are absolutely harder than others. There is a definite order in Divine Beasts to go more smoothly. It takes out the point of the freedom to do them in any order. I got an order of regions. I better keep this in mind for a new playthrough. The first part is the fire. The zones are Great Plateau, Dueling Peaks, Hateno and Eldin. The Gordon dungeon is simple. The salamander just moves horizontally or vertically. The quests leading up to the dungeon are kind of tricky, but they are not that bad. The second part is air. The zones are Ridgeland, Hebra and Tabatha. The bird dungeon is a little more complicated, but still simple. It just tilts in three positions. The third part is water. The zones are Lake, Faron and Lanayru. The elephant dungeon is one of the more complicated and difficult dungeons. The elephant moves it's trunk in so many ways. The lynals quest beforehand is tricky. It is shame that the game nudges players in the Zora area, because it is not good for starters. The fourth part is earth. The zones are Akalaa, Gerudo, Wasteland, Woodland and Central. The camel dungeon is so much harder than the other three. If one gets there early, they will likely to be punished. The wasteland region is difficult to get into in the first place because it is too hot. Then there is the most difficult quest line, because it involves the stealth mission in the ninja hideout. The thunder blight boss is the most difficult of the four blight bosses, because it is too fast. The biggest difficulty comes from the camel dungeon. There is a complex system of rotating cylinders. It is tough to understand. I don't know why the Gerudo have such a crazy difficulty spike, but that is a flaw. It may be a holdover from the linear Zelda games. I remember my last shrines were in the same zone. I can't get to them when the camel stirs up a sandstorm. These shrines were hidden which makes them even harder. One shrine was about delivering ice for a thirsty Gerudo. One was about racing sand seals. The final shrine I did was the one about seven statues and putting the balls in the right sockets. That one was really difficult. I had to look up UA-cam video guides for that one. I hope future open world Zelda games have more balance in dungeons.

      5. Crafting. It is pretty cool that Breath of the Wild has intricate physics and chemistry systems. They are pretty fun to play around in. My favorite Shekah slate ability is bombs. They are useful for fighting enemies and breaking up ore. I also like using bomb arrows. Traveling is also nice with climbing, gliding and teleporting. It is a shame that horses are so impractical. I love horses in general. If Link can already do funky things with his Shikah slate, than the reality ship has passed. In World of Warcraft, a player can summen any mount they have. It just uses a special window in the game interface. The player doesn't have to be near a stable or other special place. I wish horses were used in Breath of the Wild in the same way. There is a funny thing. The only time I used horses a lot, was late in the game after doing all shrines and dungeons. I was preparing for the Ganon fight. Unfortunately, I accidently fell off the horse during the final fight. So instead I ran around the giant pig and shot light arrows. It was surprisingly effective even without the horse. I didn't even get hit by Ganon's attack. That really shows how unnecessary horses are. The crafting aspect of Breath of the Wild is awesome. It fits in well with the exploration aspect. I like to go around and pick resources from the environment. If that stuff can be useful, then that is great. I definitely prefer to focus on getting good gear as opposed to practicing moves. Later on in the playthrough I really got into armor upgrades. Each set upgrade provided it's own mini quest in away. Farming rare materials is it's own challenge, and it is fun. I even got to glide with dragons. That is awesome. Link gets a special green set for completing all shrines. Upgrading it all the way takes lots of dragon parts. Overall the crafting system is good. I do agree with Arlo that elixirs are not great. Thier materials are more difficult to obtain and they don't provide extra health. Maybe elixirs should have maxed out effects in order to make up for lack of health. I don't bother with stealth, electric protection and temperature protection in food and elixirs. There are great armor sets to provide the effects. I prefer attack, defense, speed, extra health, and stamina buffs. Arlo is critical in the review. The crafting system is where this criticism is most enjoyable. I think Breath of the Wild has a good crafting system as is. However Arlo's suggestions make me so excited. World of Warcraft has a full blown crafting system. Other games can do similar things. Breath of the Wild is strictly single player. So there is no player interaction, let alone an auction house. Link can go all out and use all the crafting professions. There is already a method for getting food and elixirs. There can be more. Shooting animals can give both meat and leather. Breaking ore can give stone, metal and ore. Maybe the humanoid enemies can have cloth pieces. Metal, leather and cloth can be used to make new armor sets. Metal can also be used for making weapons.
      6. The dungeons are a huge improvement. I enjoy the exploration in the overworld so much better. So I like shrines so much better than traditional dungeons. Shrines are short and sweet. They provide more variety to gameplay by having a little puzzle. I especially like the combat ones. They are straightforward and they give good practice. It is nice that sheikah slate abilities are used in both shrines and the overworld. It is also nice that the divine beasts are built on the easier shrine puzzles. People can have their ideas by what the hardest shrine. Some people, like Arlo, struggle with motion control. Some struggle with Flower light Ganon. For me the toughest is shrines hidden in the environment. Finding them at all is tough. A lot of them are based off of gimmicks, and that is difficult and no intuitive. Eventide Isle is the most notorious one. There are other ones. There is on about the blood moon. There are three in labyrinths.
There are four regular dungeons. Breath of the Wild has four traditional dungeons. I find this the least fun part of the game. It is probably a compromise between the old formula and the new innovation. The divine beasts can be frustrating to solve and they can wear out their welcome. Watching the video I see that they are not as bad as they could have been. I appreciate it. Even with a similar art style, I do like how all the divine beasts have their own themes. The triforce is a big part of Zelda. It is cool and all. However my favorite number is four. I think the triforce is really lacking in an air or electric component. A great thing about the divine beasts is that they adhere to my number of four. There is even an air component with its own bird people. It is as awesome as it sounds. There is a bit of an elemental theme. Rito gets air. Gordon gets fire. Zora gets water. Gerudo gets earth. I do have a nitpick. It is strange for Gerudo to have electrical associations. I think that would have fit the Rito a lot better. I got the impression that Gerudo had earth. Thier desert has lots of exposed ground free of vegetation. There is also lots of sandstorms. How electricity goes in there, I have no idea. It is possible for the camel to be a fullblown earth dungeon without changing the game systems in place. There are magnessis puzzles moving metal balls and blocks around. There is stasis to move large stone balls. There can be cracked stones that are cleared by bombs. Shrines already have stuff like that. Just take that and make it bigger. The camel dungeon is in need of a good nerfing. So there can be a simple elevator inside. There are two or three levels. One can use the elevator to move from the belly up to the humps. I like quests, but I didn't do much of that. It was busy trying to learn how to play the game. I would like to do side quests in a new playthrough. The major side quest I did do is the Hylean Homeowner and Tarrytown quests. Those are awesome.
      7. Legacy- Breath of the Wild is the second Zelda game I ever beaten. Ocarina of Time was the first. I did play Majora's Mask but never finished it. With this video I can see why. Time management is tough. I haven't played a whole lot. So when Breath of the Wild strays from the Zelda formula, I don't mind. To be honest, it is a game that can stand on its own without the rest of the series.

I had no idea the dragons existed for a long time. Then one day I'm exploring and I see the wind, then I get hit by a ball of lightning, and as I'm recoiling from the confusion I see a giant friggin' dragon rising out of the water beside me. I think that was the one moment that really cemented to me that this was completely unlike any other game I've ever played. This massive thing just exists, out in the wild, and you have no obligation to find it, I just tripped over it randomly.

Every year, at the end of january, I start a new playthrough where I walk everywhere and enjoy the world. But what stayed consistent is watching your video to get me hyped up before I start a replay. Thank you so so much

I recently watched a star fragment land in a river next to a waterfall in the Akkala region. I noticed that if I used stasis, it could clearly be seen at the bottom of the river, but I couldn't dive deep enough to get it. There were two metal chests nearby that I started pushing the fragment around with, but it was slow and tedious. I then tried using stasis on the fragment and launching it using magnesis and the chests. After a couple of launches, I intentionally knocked it out of the water and onto a beach where I could pick it up. I also figured out a long time ago that you could place down five bundles of wood and light them on fire to create an updraft to help you glide above enemies or obstacles. No other zelda game has this level of interaction. It's incredible.

I feel like the piano also lends to the sense of solitude. The other games had music with a larger sense of fullness. The lone piano found throughout the areas reminds you of your own isolation. The people are gone and thus the music halls are empty. Then when you get to the villages you are reminded that society has barely survived and it's amazing.

You could say most of society survived, probably 42 percent, why? Because at the rate that hirule healed, it means that there was many people, many people still alive, still, the player could feel kind of lonely, but, he has many towns to accompany him, and there is not only humans to accompany but also the spirits of the champions, or even corocs, anyway everyone's opinion matters, but I just feel you say that because of the, cought, cought, PIANO=SAD formula, but piano could be fun, happiness, or just beatifullnes, same with the violin

@@kristopher3623 I'd hardly call it 'most' of society surviving. Youv'e had a hundred years since the disaster - that's two generations of possible breeding and re-population of Hyrule and look how little has been achieved. Ganons beasts have been picking people off slowly over time too, granted - yet towns aren't densely populated a lot of the time. The ones that are, they tend to be the last bastion of an entire species. Compare the number of forgotten hamlets, castles, ect. to the handful of sparsely populated towns and the implied loss of life is a little haunting. Hyrule castle alone was armed to the teeth by hundreds of soldiers judging by memories.
As for the company, ghosts and forest spirits aren't the best but Link definitely has options - it's just how few and far between they are. Aside from the occasional stable, I've gone hours without seeing a friendly face as I explore Hyrule. The way the Piano is used can mean so much and a lone instrument is very evocative symbolically. I'd agree that specifically within BotW the slow tempo and soft, non-intrusive nature emphasizes the macabre beauty of the world around you as well as your isolation from what little pockets of society remain. I'd be lying if I didn't say something about the delicate piano composition coupled with the ruined imagery didn't rip out a visceral feeling of sadness just as easily as it did wonder.
