Mojang Secretly Nerfed Iron Farms in 1.19+

- The Iron Farm nerf no one is talking about.
Tested versions 1.16.5 through 1.19.1 Pre-release 4, both vanilla and Fabric. The change in spawning occurs in version 1.19 and beyond.
Please note, this explaination is meant to only explain the general concept of what may be happening, some details, or the whole theory may be wrong! It's for discussion purpose only :-D.
Also note that in the examples, the villagers are always being scared, so that condition is always met, thus why it is not mentioned.
Please feel free to let me know what you think!
Finally, if you liked the content, please subscribe! It keeps us small creators motivated and I really appreciate the supportt!
Thank you!

This is most likely a parity change to match up with Bedrock Edition where Iron Golems spawn (on average) every 700 ticks (or 35 seconds). They probably didn't want to mention it and hoped that Java players wouldn't notice... because that always works.
Yeah it is impossible to trick minecraft wizards.
They could have just put bedrock spawning lower :||||| iron farms on bedrock are already slow
@@DarkChaosMC and incredibly tedious to make
@@ragenut1168 wdym ? It's one of the easiest farm to make imo
You just need a bunch of villagers and a zombie
@@napstarem7503 what design are you using? On bedrock you need atleast 20 villagers with jobs to even make iron golems spawn, that alone is tedious enough. That's why i haven't even made one yet
the same class change that caused this bug also causes piglins to barter every 121gt instead of every 120gt (MC-258620)
Since the video was released we have gotten a bit more insight to why the change happened. Skyrising was able to trace the change back to Snapshot 22w12a in which they added the warden which also refers to that class. So while working with the warden they probably found some issues with that tick order and fixed it for the warden but didn't consider the effect it would have on iron golem spawning and piglin bartering. The report for piglin bartering recently was updated to now have a Mojang Priority of "Important" so it should get fixed soonTM and im fairly confident that they will also evaluate having the same fix for golem spawning. Then we should at least get clarity wether they want the 35 second spawning to be intended or reverted to every 30seconds
Piglin report: MC-258620
What does barter mean?
I LAUGHED SO HARD AT THAT THUMBNAIL-
Glad it gave you a chuckle ;-)
Because Nerf Guns? Hahahahahahaa
Well done video with slick infographics that explains the nerf
Also watching your others videos and you are like a hidden gem so youtube algorithms GO GO GO
Thanks a lot, comments like this really keep me motivated! Really appreciate it.
I feel like 1.19 has a few unmentioned changes.. Ore distribution also feels different
Communications does not seem to be the strong side of mojang as of late :P
I can't belive you only have 220 subs! Super underrated
Thanks! I'm still pretty new! Appreciate it :-]
As one who stacks like about 10 iron farms in 1 grinder, I don't really notice any reduction in rates.
Like, 5 less ingots in a farm that produces thousands in a given time isn't a cause for my concern. Like he said, from a nerdy standpoint, this might be worth looking into, but for practical purpose, no.
Yeah just nerdy stuff, only practical impact is some timer style farms like gnembons may need adjustments or they won't work.
@@NicoisLOST wait does this include tango's iron farm because that is also a timer based farm
@@notad___ Which one :-). If it's the season 7 stacked farm then it probably won't completely stop it from working but the number of items in the clock could potentially be optimized to give slightly higher rates (very slight! Maybe not even noticeable!)
Very well made video with smooth editing and to the point. Earned a sub!
Appreciate it :-)
Thumbnail having a NERF gun shoot iron golem to show that they "nerfed the iron farms" Is so hilarious! Big brain
Thanks glad you liked it!
There's also the villager bug where they stop restocking their trades unless you replace their workstations, or you need to move them to the nether and back to the overworld
hey it happened to me also that thanks for the solution
I thought that it was a feature 🤔🤔
My understanding of iron farms before 1.19 is that there is a 30 second cooldown and then there’s a 5 second delay before the next spawn, it’s always been like that. Watch logicalgeekboy’s video explaining iron farms from before 1.19. I have a feeling this may be a bug in 1.18.2 or a change they scrapped, try testing in 1.17
Hi, yes I have seen his video, and actually remember this dynamic around 1.16ish.. but I checked back with the last major releases for 1.16 1.17 1.18 which all have the functionality same as 1.18.2. My thinking is that this is perhaps a reoccurring bug and the version he used in his video had it.
Like mentioned, I'm not completely sure, just what I observed.
Thanks for the comment! Good to get pushback :-).
@@NicoisLOST that’s very interesting. He also mentioned in his video that he didn’t know why there was a 5 second delay but that was just what he observed so I think you may be right that it could be a bug. Iron farm mechanics are actually so complex but it’s good to see videos covering any observed changes so thanks!
The nerf is not only to iron farms. Wool farms also got hit. One of probable things can be parity change to fit bedrock, second is optimization change they secrectly made causing less frequent ticking of certain mob/villie behaviors.
Its still a ridiculous amount of iron. I come home from work with multiple dubs of ingots
I would like too see them creating a minecraft 2, things I would love too see would be more controle over village management. As well as village upgrades.
It would be great too see a village evolve as you help too support a village either with defence or trade. Mabe even village growth, ie by building more buildings, and villagers change from village too town, whitch in turn allows you too make use of more featurs or items.
Yes
This sounds like a good idea for a mod :-]. No need for a minecraft 2.0, we could do it today!
Sounds like the Minecolonies or Millenaire mods.
I remember a mod that did just that
Yes... I can see how this would pose a problem in constructing an iron block highway system in the End islands. 😉
I think most Java players will only notice if they see a video like this.
Redstone junkies will be like, ”Ah!!! That ruins the rates of my farm design!” (3... 2... 1...) ”How can I tweak my farm to get the most out of the new system...?”
Just learning about this change will cause a lot of Java players to expand their iron farms, just because they'll feel like they're being cheated out of iron production. My heart bleeds for all the additional trios of villagers, doomed to live till the end of the world, in a constant state of panic, just because players want to overflow their iron storage faster.
yeah, omg, i will spend 35 days to finish my iron highway rather than a month, thats a big deal
@@Yasser-444 "Mojaaaang!!!"
Given that I have about 12 full chests full of iron, Idt I’ll notice lol.
Yeah I noticed that. My iron production went from 9k/hr to 7.8k/hr to somehow even 6.4k/hr. No one really needs this much iron, but I do since I'm building with it. I want to mine and build, not play afk simulator.
Yeah you would expect about a 1500 ingot per hour drop from this change, but if you are using a timer based farm you might be able to gain some of those back with just optimizing the timer...
I think there must also have been tweaks to the golem spawning algorithm... several instances of my fave farm (dual pod, with 4x5 spawn area above) either stopped working entirely, or got flaky. --golems spawning in the walls, and falling out of the farm, constantly...
I saw a vid about optimal rates, and changed spawn platforms to be bigger, wide but short, and drops the golems 25 blocks to lava below, so as to quickly clear out the check-area for next spawn. This has been a big success...
you are so underrated bro keep up the amazing content
Thanks, appreciate it!
@@NicoisLOST could you tell me the song you use for your videos?
This one is "Sex and the Kennedy's" - Verified Picasso
@@NicoisLOST thank you ❤️
This nerf has no relevance to me but this was a rather entertaining and informative video to watch 👏 I'm quite a fan of videos like this just explaining random stuff and how they function/work
Thanks!
What fabric mod did you use for the attempt?
It's all Fabric Carpet by gnembon. The visuals are from his AI Tracker. See his most recent iron farm video to see how it works.
@@NicoisLOST does it work on servers for the gui portion?
I'm not sure, but I would assume it works if installed server side. If client side only I don't believe so.
Does the bug also apply yo the 1.20.2 fabric or should I install 1.20.2 version of it? It seems that fabric version for 1.20.1 is after the snapshot 23w31a when mojang fixed this bug but it's just what I can see when I browse all the versions of minecraft in minecraft launcher. I think that fabric version is older but it was released later due to time needed for making it for new version of minecraft.
i think they may remove this bug in 1.19.1
Yeah, I wouldn't be suprised. The bug is still in pre-release 4. I need to dig into bug reporting to see if it's been reported or I can make one. Or they might keep it as is, they have done that a ton of times on the past.
1.19.84
I use a iron farm design where a zombie in a minecart goes around 4 separate spawning areas and scares the villagers. I was wondering why sometimes they didnt spawn until I found this vid. Anyone using the gnembon farm design, you can correct it by replacing most of the powered rails with normal rails to slow down the zombies speed, allowing enough time to pass for another spawn
How have you been able to see the info about the spawn time etc?
Carpet mod by @gnembon
« Won’t fix »
Mojang has a history of doing that, so who knows. Bugs aka features ;-)
Jira ticket has been marked as Fixed, possibly the patch will be available at the next release
My iron farm produces more since last update. I assumed rates were boosted.
A more accurate decription of the nerf would be "time between iron golems spawning increased" -- but it's possible this could help certain iron farms, specifically certain clock based farms -- but I don't know :-]
Will I ever notice this: No
Did I need to know this: No
Do I need to watch this:
YES
Perfect ;-)
you need more subs
Thanks, appreciate it!
Indeed
Great video
New sub
Thanks :-)
“I’m no expert” “literally built the greatest iron farm and the most informative iron farm video that explained it well for dumb ppl like me”😭
The thumbnail explains it so good
Thanks!
im not that mad about that, given how iron farms can be compounded more easily in the new version.
Yeah its not a huge deal just something for us big nerds :-]
04:03 hmm yes they should make the open word sandbox block game more challenging
didnt understand the technicalities but good video nonetheless
Thanks :-).
Nerf iron farm?
**Still using the AFK Iron Farm*
Well, bad news for me I guess. I play on a UK server called Simple Survival, in the Wyvern server. And most of my income comes from the massive iron farm complex I built long ago. It has 8 quad farms in a square around an open area which I afk from the open area. So I am running 32 iron farms at once. Though the efficiency isn't spectacular I am still one of the 10 richest players on the server out of thousands of players who are on regularly. I watched the video about iron farm specifics yesterday, and am wondering if it is time for me to come up with a more efficient iron farm complex. But such a thing is always a MASSIVE undertaking. Just breeding villagers and moving them takes forever. For example in my current iron farm complex there are 96 villagers. l)J
imagine if the iron golem dropped nuggets instead of ingots…
Yuck.
That and Iron farms have a higher chance of not working. Welp, Back to strip mining for me.
i hope the bugfix for this is in 1.20.1 or 1.20.2!!!
yo do you know if it's fixed in 1.20.1 ik it's fixed in 1.20.2
@@manorasi2498 it is broken in 1.20.1
I hope this happened by accident.
Maybe they organized the code and reoreded the iron golem spawn code not right.
“You probably didn’t notice” yes I did.
Glad to see someone else has. I built Gnembon`s iron farm and noticed that the villagers would not spawn new iron golems consitently, as though their cooldown had increased. Kind of annoying given that, as he points out, it was not mentioned in the patch notes.
I love the Thumbnail
Mine on bedrock still gives me a full double chest of iron afk for j one night
Yeah this was a java only nerf.
Imagine if mojang make iron golem stop dropping iron. Then it would mean iron is a lot rarer since farms are gone. I sure hope they don't though
Mine just stopped working completely two days ago. 1.19 ianxofour’s day 1 iron farm. It had been working for weeks.
Unfortunately I don't think this particular bug applies to ianxofour's day1 farm, but could be some other change...
Mojank: stinky
Iron farmers: alright.. again??
I know it's fixed in 1.20.2 but is it fixed in 1.20.1 ? can anybody answer pls
Nope!
I think this is a good thing, but I don't think it solves the problem, iron farms are OP, but they aren't really OP because they produce way to much iron, they are OP because of how simple and cheap they are to build, have you seen Ianxofour's "iron farm on day one"? its a stupidly simple concept, and he actually builds a working Iron farm on day one of his survival, and it has the exact same rates as a single pod of a bigger farm, this is a problem, as you don't even need to go into the mines to get iron for your shield, first set of armor, tools, F&S, it all just comes for free in a few minutes of doing other stuff near the farm.
Every pod in an iron farm produces a good amount, its super easy and cheap to build and you can stack them, even using the same killing chamber, meaning that you only need to use like 9 hoppers and 1 lava source to keep up with however many pods you have. That is a problem
Yeah 100% Ianxofour's farm is a good example. It would be nice if we had to at least be a little more creative with the designs. I mean making the game grindy for no reason is boring, but so is too easy.
Not a bug it's now parity to bedrock spawn rate and system
it's getting fixed woo!! 1.20.2 is gonna be a huge minor version tbh
It was mentioned
Please share where if you know :-). I searched quite a bit and found nothing.
Well, at least a thousands of golems wont be roaming around anymore because i locked up all villagers
;-)
nnot once you talk about NERRF in Minecraft
I wish... :-P
i have a huge iron farm and it's not producing any iron anymore
If we nerf a farm it just means it would take you longer to build with the materials needed for a build or project, so if it takes a hermit 3 weeks to plan gather and build in 1.18 then it might take them 3.5 weeks to complete it in 1.19 so things that should stay in because they are fun and very cool, shadow blocks and tnt dupers wither cage, complex engendered limit testing and time saving machines.
Unless if it’s game breaking I would not change it because if you have that kind of deduction you should be able to use that technology. Because it’s a game designed to be fun and played in different ways! Shadow blocks would solve the inventory problem.
Yeah in general I think nerfs are good because it forces you to be more creative in the long run. :-)
Ur so underrated
Thanks :-]
I am literally stuck in 1.18
"Secretly"
Is this Java?
Yeah, Java. Still applies to 1.19.4
@@NicoisLOST ok great. This is different from bedrock?
@@UnigirlTx Yeah, totally different mechanics. :-]
Yeah I play on bedrock and figured it was java and wanted to make sure they both haven't changed thanks for your replies 💜
Eww u had my likes until you said nerf is good thing. I like efficiency. Not redundancies.
Haha OK. GG. Agree to disagree :-]
i feel like mojang should nerf raid farms, so you cant just be invincible in hardcore!
Commenting for algorithm
Just play the game without making a farm don’t ruin it for everyone
Nerf or nothing
I've seen no major difference to be honest. Just build a second farm if it's that big of a deal.
Like we needed another reason to stay out of 1.19.1
This is fine... havent noticed this at any point neither solo nor on a server, so who cares?
Still thanks for your efforts.
Yeah, the point wasn't like "it's a disaster!", it's more interesting from a nerdy, design standpoint than for an average player. Thanks for the comment :-]
