    4JH is a great engine. Just sold the 4JH-2TE in my 1997 Hylas and she ran beautifully. Obviously now is the time to put new engine mounts on and spray all the rust spots. If you can, put a drain plug in that sump with a hose before you install her so that you can run the hose to an external electric pump. That's the set-up I had and it really made oil changes super easy! Good luck.

      It would be nice to see how you did the oil drain pipe. The one thing I wish yanmars had.

      Second contact is second hand chart plotters and instruments radar so on in also U.K. based .

    Marseille to Sète, that's a long drive ! I hope you took some times to walk and have a look at the Calanques in Marseille, or the étang de Thau in Sète in between the drives those are cool places, anyway, I think that engine looks in good condition, but certainly better than the forklift, I think they missed a few maintenances, it does not looks very safe
    Good luck with that engine, and the whole ship in general, still a lots of work to do, but a whole summer ahead, which surely won't help, the temperatures can get very high in the south, like sometimes over 40°C, it's probably hard to do anything at such a high temperature. Working on such a boat is a very big and complexe project, but with some times and love as everything, I'm sure it's gonna end up looking awesome ! Keep it up !

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  Рік тому +2

      We didn't stop in the calanques but we stopped in aigues mortes.
      Drove through the Camargue on the way home.
      We got home with two engines.
      Tbh it took a few days to realise I don't need to look for an engine anymore.
      So happy.

    .... you got an engine .. well done ..... massive upside, you can do all the beautification/paint outside as opposed to trying to do your best on an engine installed ... bright clean/painted engine room for a pristine engine ..... yes am repeating myself .... well done! .... have you ever seen those people that start out with say a washer and continually trade up and end up with something unimaginable considering what they started with, like say a house ..... all those bags of goodies from the second engine may bring more than you ever imagined ... sorta like that scenario of selling a junker car for say a hundred, but parting it out realizes way more .... love your optimism ... thx for sharing .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ...

    If you can't sell the 'Spare' engine as is, be sure to strip all the possible spares from it before scrapping. I'm sure you will appreciate having a working spare starter, injectors and such, but I'm also sure you've already thought of that!

      The engine turned over lovely. Good compression.
      Next is to strip it done, have a look inside and renew the gaskets. Give it a bit of paint etc
      Step by step...

    GBU bought a brand new British made Beta Marine engine and gearbox unit for that kind of money.
    Well congrats anyway looks like a fine engine. For that kind of money we're you not tempted to buy a whole fleet or a completer boat?

    I didn't buy a boat engine for a boat. A168F 3 HP air cooled Chinese diesel, brand new. It's 44 LBS and should devote half of it's power to making 12 volts. There are bigger undersized air cooled diesels for giant boats, too. The hot air is welcome.

      Mine too, I altered my beds so the engine sat level. Yanmar is a major marine engine maker & added this feature for a good reason. Ur old beds probably need refurbishing.

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  Рік тому +1

      Hi David! You comment got us a little worried. We called Yanmar and they referred us to some engineers in England who said 8 degrees is ok and those engineers recommended some other engineers who said the same thing. 8 degrees installation, maximum 15 degrees under power. Our engine bed is 6 degrees so all is good. Thanks for your concerns. It’s always best to double check things. We are happy we made the right decision. Cheers!

    They are reasonably good motors but like the volvos the parts are very expensive. A Beta Marine would have been a better choice, but it's very hard to find a used one. Being cheap to operate, people run them till they are complete junk or need a complete rebuild at a machine shop
