    Came across your channel purely by chance... With a valve at the hull, on your header tank, you will have no syphen problems. ... The drainage tap will only be open while you are there. 20 ltrs of goo will take about 1 minute to drain with an inch hose... After that, the valve will be closed... I have the same set up with 120 ltr holding tank. I Tee off from the drain, to a deck fitting for vacuum extraction with its own shut off valve... Works like a treat... Put a shut off valve directly off the tank drain to save burst pipe filling the bilge with chocolate...

    A good idea I have seen for tank vents is to run them into stanchion bases with holes in the stanchions. A friend's boat had that. The only negative was once when they didn't realize the tank was full, flushing turned the stanchion into a sort of poo sprinkler head.

    The holding tank needs to be high enough to gravity drain. If no direct outlet to sea from toilet (ie via a diverter) make sure it's easy to poke something into the tank right down to the seacock. The holding tank will block at some point. Everyone says it won't because they'll be careful - but it will.
    Consider putting a valve in the breather hose - so that if the holding tank outlet is blocked you can pump air into it from the toilet to pressurise and unblock (unless something explodes first!).

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  7 місяців тому +7

      Great tip.
      You know it's going to get blocked. It's just a matter of time.
      Hopefully there's enough space to slide it out.
      Plus the exit of the tank is directly above the seacock.
      We'll give it go as we have most of the pieces and take it from there.
      Cheers for watching 🙂

    The bilge is looking 👌, I can only imagine how wonderful the rest of Seabird will be after you 2 work your magic on her.. people with money can buy nice things, the rest of us have to take what others have overlooked and put our hard work into it making it nicer than the one that's bought with money.. Seabird has improved greatly and so has the quality of content coming from Stewart and Marina... you 2 automatically get a 👍 as soon as I click on the video..

    Hi, my experience with the inline black water tank is very good: Easy handling and no bad odours, at least on the boat we chartered this May. We used it for 2 weeks. 2 factors are important: size and location. size: 25 liters volume seem very little to me, I would double that amount. location: as high above the waterline as possible. The location you chose may be too low in order to empty well ba itself. The outgoing hose needs to attach from below (that's "inline") in the deepest spot. There are conical upright tanks available that adapt to the form of the hull.

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  7 місяців тому +3

      I've seen a few different shaped tanks.
      We have this, so before we go and buy another, give this one a go and see if it works.

    I enjoy watching your rebuild. I have been using an in line holding tank installation for about 30 years with good luck. Suggest locating the bottom of tank above your boat's waterline and plumb discharge line below bottom of tank so that it will empty completely. I use a pvc valve ahead of the thru hull valve so that you can do maintenance on the thru hull valve without having to clean the tank.

    Probably don't want to add any length to tank vent, as maximum venting will speed decomposition and less stink.

    Friend has 2 waste tank as you suggest. One I back of hulls in catamaran but remember tank must be above the waterline!( so it empties). Some of the French catamarans have tall ones behinds cupboards and that can drain outside when required !
    A simple system .

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  7 місяців тому +1

      I have seen that type.
      The tank is near as high as the sink...
      I first wanted to see if it fits in the gap.
      Now I'll look into the technical stuff.
      Cheers for watching 🙂

    You can always drop a dry or camping flush loo into the shower room if you have the need later.
    Rigid ABS pipe with chemicaly welded joints never lets any stink out.. or leaks.. if youve got a waybto fit it... You can bend it to a curve.

      We did have similar thoughts.
      We'll see how we get on first.
      If needed, those camping toilets are readily available.

    I think you're making a good decision in eliminating the toilet in the head near your bedroom.. you don't want to be sleeping with those smells.. leave it a shower and wet room.. leave the toilet in the head in the front of the boat and not have a shower there.. less maintenance and simple is always better

    For wast pipe on sink I think a bath out pipe will work. Bath ones are flat. I think they are called flat waste pipes.

    Generally keeping tanks as low and centered as possible is best for sailing.

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  7 місяців тому +2

      The main fuel and water tanks are below the waterline.
      25l of waste shouldn't affect the sailing too much.

    Great work completed so far, the boat looks great and you shouldn't be so hard on yourselves.
    I totally agree that the work is best not rushed and deadlines only lead to pressure, you will feel much better knowing that you hadn't rushed the final stages of the fiberglass and paint.
    We are building a narrowboat for the UK canals and we have deliberately not set any deadlines as we wish to enjoy the build as much as possible.
    Keep up the great work.
