Thank you for this video. Before watching, I thought replacing brake shoes was a very difficult job, but after watching and now having some understanding how the brake shoe / drum system works, I feel very confident to take this job on when the time comes to replace on my Aygo. Cheers man.
Thanks so much for the fantastic tutorial! I just done my own rear shoe replacement on my Aygo, and I couldn’t have managed without your video. I think your videos are well presented and so helpful. Thanks so much, keep em coming! 👍⭐️👏
Many thanks, just working on my sons rear brakes, could not understand how the adjustment worked, turns out I can see from your video they had been put back together wrongly at some point, all back together correctly now. Thanks
A good explanation throughout, a far easier drum to remove than the earlier Peugeot 106. I always put a smear of high melting point grease on any surfaces where the shoes touch the backplate and a drop of oil on adjuster thread and handbrake lever pivots. Should a cylinder have to be replaced, generally the brake fluid should also be renewed. Many thanks for a clear and concise video.
This is the best rearbreak video I've ever seen!! Tnx ALOT🔥🔥 Pls keep these videos about c1 and aygos coming up..mine over 150.000 now and all kinds of stuff is breaking down😅
Great tutorial 👍 My neighbour wants me to look at his grindy rear brakes on his Pug 108 tomorrow, it’s a 2016 with very low miles. I reckon it’ll be surface rust on the drum surface that needs a clean up. I feel better prepared now! 🚘
Quick question, when replacing the rear brake shoes, if the wheel cylinder has to be replaced, is it easy enough to come off? Or will brake fluid pour out?
Great Video, because the hydraulic cylinder is pushing out the top of the shoes, the shoes will always wear at the top first, that is as long as you are not doing loads of handbrake turns :)
My 107 handbrake lever was corroded and didn't move at all i cover with cling film the shoes and spray WD40 and manage to free it (rear passenger side) ,thank you for the tutorial we need guys like you .
Thank you so much for the video, I ran into this problem I've tried to adjust the hand brake cable, but it looks like one cable is bigger than the other
the cables are connected to a balance bar, so once refitted they should equal out, if not you might have a corroded cable outer, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Fantastic video with every detail explained, I thought I had a seized hand brake cable on my 108, but after looking today and seeing your video it looks to be the pivet on the lever for the hand brake cable that is seized, i didn’t use my car for a few weeks and the brake stuck on really bad, so I believe the pivet is seized so the lever for the hand break isn’t springing back when I release the hand brake. What lubricant would you recommend to lube the pivet?
Hi mate i did the job how you show it. Thanks for that. But i notice now another issue. When i remove hand brake the light is still on the dash. Hand brake work properly even i adjusted. But that ligts not go out from the dash???
@@aaanton11 i found the switch, but its look like not working because i pressed with hand and the light do not disappear from dash. Is that a faulty switch?
Hey, I'm looking at buying a city bug. What would you recommend looking out for when buying one used? All of your repair videos will come in handy with maintaining it, so thank you, keep it up!

Hi, love the video, really useful, I've just bought a 107 and it states on the MOT that the rear service brake is binding, it feels like a rear brake is stuck on a bit and I notice the wheel is getting warm after a short drive. What's the most likely cause going to be?
Excellent video. I’m having bother with my handbrake as after it’s been adjusted it does works fine with about 6 clicks. But after a few days the handbrake lever goes to about 12 clicks and doesn’t work very well. I’m guessing I need some new adjusters, or would that top Lever just need freed off?
Very informative video, I’m looking to get the cylinder off the back, does the brake pipe and nut come off easily? Mine has been on all its life and fear they may shear off. Cheers
Make sure to clean the immediate surrounding of the brake pipe nut, the pipe itself and the cylinder fixing screw. Particularly on the brake pipe its nothing short of an obligation! Small thin screw driver(s) or picks are ideal to clean it all a wire brush is another fundamental, along with WD40 or equivalent. Take your time, do not rush this part. Otherwise, make sure you have access to a new brake pipe! ;-) Depending on your location (snow, ice, salt...). Corrosion can be a real issue. In fact, it's rather "normal" for the pipe to be damaged (twist) during removal on older systems that haven't been touched for a long time. Go slow, to finish quickly! ;-) Cheers
I have found these come off ok, if you can get your hands on a brake pipe spanner like amzn.to/3aa0EH7 life will be much easer, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 - Definitely a good tool help successfully finish the job. But in this case usually it's the dirt/debris/corrosion that mess up the job. So the tool makes little difference. On nasty conditions, the old pipe tend to rotate along with the nut! Precisely due to all the "crap" stuck in there! The only two options left for the unlucky chap tackling the task is: - Clean, until removal of the nut won't rotate (break) the pipe. - Get a new pipe and simply trash the old one. Usually the best option! This last approach come up with another problem. Then you'll have to mess between the pipe and the hose further upstream... Which under the same conditions might come with similar problems. LOL 😂 Leaving in Norway this is a everyday annoying problem with every single nut or bolt! When I lived in fair weather country's this usually was NEVER a (big) problem. ;-) Cheers

The aygo which had 170,000 miles used just under 1 litre every 1500 miles, which is not a issue as it didn't smoke from the exhaust, the 107 uses 1 litre every 2000 miles, I don't mind some oil usage, if it was using over 1 litre per 1000 miles I would look to repair. Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
