Thank you so much for teaching about this auto-immune disease that affects millions of people, I was completely shocked when Chris Rock humiliated her and made fun of her about her disease publicly and in front of her husband and I just don't get it why for the majority of people it is not a big deal knowing that the hair for a woman represents her femininity and her attraction for a man.

Well said Jada’s scalp, scar appears to be surgical related and not related to alopecia . She shaves her hair and perpetuates a lie to play on the sympathy of her audience who lack true knowledge of the different types of alopecia. Jada’s narcissist personality won’t allow herself to be honest and truthful because she’s constantly deflecting blame on everything else.

I had a facelift a few years before my occasional dime-sized alopecia spots really kicked into gear in 2008 and became totalis. I’ve got a scar on each side of my head. Although I now have extremely limited hair growth - maybe 30 hairs on my head, 1/4” long eyebrows, very thin eyelashes, and a few hairs in various other places, I know better than to expect any substantial change. I tried a wig, but I live on the coast in Mexico. It’s much too hot for wigs. I figure if someone doesn’t like seeing a bald woman, they can just look the other way. I forget I’m bald until I unexpectedly see myself in a mirror. And I have to say, there are many advantages in avoiding hair care time and expenses.

She's lying and saying her scar is alopecia?! Girl, that's from cosmetic surgery! These celebs need to quit with the lies. I'm glad you pointed it out to others who wouldn't have a clue. Lying on alopecias name? Not in this neighbourhood! You can be a positive role model spreading awareness for alopecia, but don't forget about being a positive role model about cosmetic surgery too.
Edit: After a few replies I gave them the benefit of the doubt and double checked my conclusion. I even tried researching 'Linear presentation of alopecia' and got nowhere. The only line like presentation regarding alopecia are wide bands of hair loss that travel across the entire scalp. Hers starts and stops in a way alopecia just doesn't present as. I know a scar and I know how alopecia presents, her story is not adding up.
I then researched 'cosmetic surgery incision locations' and hers resembles a Brow Lift, I then tried 'brow lift incision locations' and found this..
'' Your surgeon will make an incision behind your hairline across the top of your head, from ear to ear or primarily on the top of your head. ''
Her scar is consistent with the incision made during a brow lift procedure. Its a SCAR NOT ALOPECIA.
Sorry Jada fans, your queen is unfortunately being untruthful.

It’s amazing that Jada thinks she’s fooling people with that statement. It’s probably safe to say she has lied enough that she’s still doing it because no one is publicly challenging her lies about that scar. I’m not saying she doesn’t have alopecia. I’m saying she’s a bad liar. She lies so much she believes herself. She doesn’t seem like one to ever admit her faults. Meanwhile we can now see and know she’s had a cosmetic procedure with scars to show for it. And we now know she’s a bad liar. Maybe the Smiths also lied for Jordan and her cheating ways that Khloe K. had previously revealed. They also lie about not being Scientologists. Oh the list is only beginning with how they’ve lost a lot of credibility in one night.

As soon as I saw Jada's scar on her scalp, I knew it was from a Coronal brow lift. What a disappointment that she is trying to blame it on hair loss instead of owning that she had a cosmetic procedure. I have the same scar from a Coronal brow lift and associated hair loss in the area of the scar. My cosmetic surgeon never warned me of the risk of having permanent hair loss at the scar site. If I had been informed of this risk, I may have elected a different form of brow lift or not done one at all. As I age and my hair thins, I have become self-conscious that my scar is noticeable. Right at the top of my head, front and center. Dark hair with a white scar. Nice. Thank you doctor for your suggestions to correct or cover the scar.

Following extensive research, I eventually decided to test it out. Following initial use, I noticed my hair seemed soft and my scalp felt more comfortable. Typically use shampoo twice a week and in two days, flakiness would reappear. However after using this shampoo, that was not the case. I chose to keep with this shampoo to track the outcomes. I began to wear a scarf always but a friend suggested I see a dermatologist, which I did. After a punch biopsy, he told me that I had lupus.
Before that discovery, the skin on my face had all peeled off twice in the 6 months prior. After the DX, it was discovered I had issues with my heart and kidneys, extreme internal bleeding, now my spine is having /making a lot of trouble in our world.
I was terrified with the lupus dx because i had a friend who died from lupus.
Get the best rheumatologist you can, someone you can trust and who can work well with your GP; these guys will be your team captains and can do what needs to be done, like write orders for blood tests, meds, whatever. The rheumatologist will be captain; the GP the co-captain. Your family will have to get in behind you, there will be times you just have to STOP everything. BOUNDARIES!!!If you are tired and you really just can't do anymore, then protect yourself: if they want dinner, laundry, whatever, they can do it for themselves. A lot of pressure is placed on us to always have gorgeous hair and to value it when it comes to appearance and so you may feel ugly and awful when you begin to lose hair, but there is a lot of help now in the medical field and, if you have the money, custom wig industry. I hope any research you do can benefit you, but I will double-down on my message that if all else fails- you can feel beautiful again.
I’d recommend custom wigs (they can be made to cover hairloss in certain areas), therapy to help you through this rough time and any negative thoughts, hair treatments containing castor oil, protective hair styles and very gentle scalp massage where possible. It looks like balding caused from the GLUE , combs, clips or braid (9:32) when attaching a Wig.
Alopecia usually causes PATCHES of bald areas -- not a straight line.

The field of womens hair loss is bare like the hair we are losing! I’m grateful Jada shared this and hopefully we can hear more. When I started losing my hair I only found mens options. Weird to be on a site called hims for my hair loss. I had some major hair loss after a henna treatment and have always had fine hair. I’m surprised there’s not more out there specifically for women as we are sensitive to any little hair loss and we are good customers for beauty care. I’m just shocked but glad now hopefully I’ll have more options.

This was extremely educational. Thank you so much!
I used to have a very full and healthy head of hair but after 18 months of antibiotics for Lyme disease + a genetic disorder (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) that also requires heavy medication + turning 50 in a few months 😫, I now have a receding hairline and very sparse hair…
I used to cover my bald patches with brown powder since I used to be a brunette (when I could be bothered)… until I finally stopped covering the greys and the baldness and embraced my Silver Foxiness. But then my hair thinned even more and you can see my scalp quite dramatically (I think)…. So: now I wear wigs! There are amazing wigs out there, ladies! Check Raquel Welch or Bell Tress wigs. They look so real no one will ever detect anything + you look like you’ve just stepped out of the salon with a very expensive cut and a very expensive colour with highlights and low lights.
I hope this helps too. Keep your head high, you’re beautiful 🫂

Thank you so much for this important video Dr. Gary! My mom has FFA (frontal fibrosing alopecia) and it was impossible to any help from Drs. I was the one who figured it out after doing hours of research… she’s lost all her eyebrows and has the very distinctive pattern of frontal hair loss, she’s a textbook case but no doctor wanted to help figure her problem out, they just kept dismissing her saying she was stressed... it’s frustrating. Her scalp is completely smooth with no hair follicles on the front and sides. She wears wigs now and microbladed brows. She did wear sunscreen daily for much of her adult life, after getting a basal cell carcinoma on her nose in her 30’s.
I personally struggle with chronic telogen effluvium from hypothyroidism, it’s been over 10 years now. I was told to use Rogaine foam and take iron and biotin, but not much more than that. I did buy a LLLT helmet back in 2013. With telogen effluvium I don’t think I’m a candidate for hair restoration unfortunately.

For years, advertising and media has worked HARD to normalize balding and bald men. Rightfully so. The generally accepted trope now is that a bald man (perhaps accentuated with facial hair) is “virile.” You see this everywhere, in TV ads, print ads, movie stars, etc.
It’s time to normalize bald women. Not all women have the financial resources, emotional support or time to invest in surgical hair replacement options. But we do suffer from the SAME emotional and psychological side effects that men have discussed for years in conjunction with their hair loss. We need to release the stigma that a bald woman is somehow less than feminine, or less than a full woman. I’ve been bald for 3 years now, and honestly, wouldn’t return to hair even if I could. I hope this video reaches other women and helps them to feel seen and recognized.

In most actual HR depts that would be absolutely unacceptable. I had a manager who was just like that, saying offensive stuff constantly about us, his team, re ppls religion, their appearance, race etc etc but presenting it as harmless jokes, eventuality the whole office got so fed up with him, we went to HR and he was gone that afternoon. It seemed a bit harsh but the company didn’t want to get sued if someone felt they were allowing a potentially hostile work environment to go unaddressed, and it was so immediate due to the volume and highly problematic nature of the statements he made . One of the HR reps told us that in the long run we probably did him a favor as it’s better to learn the lesson now, and walk away from it, rather than come across the wrong person or group in the future and have something much worse happen to him.
Also it’s particularly cruel to make fun of a woman who’s balding as for many women they’re hair is their “crown” so to speak.

My sister has very thin, fine hair. When she was a baby, my mum put her hair up in a pigtail, and it just fell out. So it is something she's always been a little ashamed of. I also have very thin and fine hair, but I have a ton of it (hair stylists hate me), so it looks very thick. Unfortunately, my sister also has trichotillomania, which has caused pretty severe damage and thinning over time. For a brief time when I was younger, I'd also pick at my split ends, so I get how satisfying it is. And after 30 years of doing it, I'm sure it's incredibly difficult to stop the compulsion. I have my own OCD tendencies, so I feel for her. With naturally thin hair and a compulsive disorder, it's just a bad time for her. She also has hair that is naturally thinning, just normal aging things.
For her birthday, our family agreed to pool together and pay for hair restoration of some kind, but the only clinic nearby (halfway across the state, too) said she was not a candidate for any of their procedures. It's really frustrating. I feel they could at least address the natural thinning and overall health of her hair, perhaps with supplements or some kind of therapy to help restore the health of what she has and slow the thinning that comes with age. But they didn't really help. She's a very beautiful person, and this is one area she's so self-conscious about. It really stops her from thriving. There's a ton of research into male hair loss, but very little I could find on female hair loss, so I appreciate this video greatly. Especially breaking down all the different types of hair restoration options.

@Crazy Dave, So I guess this back story is why Will acted a fool. Since he knows what the real deal is. But they both made it worse, giving Chris that work. A very bad look.

I have significant hair loss from Androgenic Alopecia and it's really depressing. Seems like I'm the only one struggling with this, so it's nice to hear about other people dealing with the same thing. Almost time to shave my head (again, already did that once) and wear a wig full time. Sigh.

I feel your pain. I had people commenting when it started in my 20’s. Calling me 4” part etc. You envy all those women sitting in the salon choosing what style and colour they’d like.
I’ve been wearing the same (female comb over equivalent), boring bloody ponytail for over 20 years. I have no fringe to speak of & cannot stand having my photo taken, especially standing with other women. I want to get a nice wig but lucky me also tends to pour sweat from my scalp! Yay me!

Alopecia does not occur in strips like that. It occurs in circles. This is a scar from a facelift or wig clips for too many years. Are we all supposed to cry for her? She’s just another shill and an actress.

The merch is "beautiful" and I will be ordering. This was very informative, I did not know traction alopecia was real, I recently got braids and I was like all this traction is going to pull my hair out and then I came across this... I also wanted to know if you thought Jada had any plastic facial surgery and you took the opportunity to enlighten us, so thank you.

many years ago My hair was thinning from wearing braids. I started working on my head and it grew. Then I got Covid and it broke all off. Now after intense care it’s back thick and long.

Traction alopecia is very real. I live in Congo and women here wear tight braids from a very young age. By the time they are 50, one third of their hair is permanently gone, esp. around the forehead and the ears.

A brilliant video Dr Gary, thank you! I learned a lot about Alopecia I never knew before.
    Purely an observation about Jada:
Other than the scar, the folacles/stubble is not absent anywhere else!!!
I'm now off to learn more about you, and how Alopecia changed your life!
    Best wishes, John UK
