wondering if i can use clear gesso as a temporary stencil. i use temporay stencils if i airbrush over it will it stop paint bleed on canvas??? please advise
I'm having a terrible time weeding Ormask 813, everything pulls up, including the parts I want to leave behind. What settings did you use with the Cameo to cut this?
Thank you for the great tips . I have a question can it be reusable again if detail work. And if so how to pickup the vinyl and putting back on the backing paper.
Hi there, unfortunately you really only want to use stencil vinyl once. If you'd like a reusable stencil check out Melissa's post about the Ikonart system: facebook.com/watch/live/?v=322856636003560&ref=watch_permalink
Love the placement trick! Thank you for sharing. My daughter is getting married on a budget. She wants a stained wood sign at her outdoor wedding and I’m curious if you have any tips and tricks for that. Would you use a stencil and paint the phrase or would you consider using 651 permanent vinyl lettering on stained wood? Also, for the staining the wood, would you recommend oil based or water-based stain (and do you have a brand preference)? Thank you again for your tips and tricks!
Hi! I used the Stencil Material cut setting for the Oramask 831 and everything cut good EXCEPT one of the words... for some reason my mat starts to move every time it gets to that certain word. My rollers are were they should be... what could it be? Speed? Force? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. :)
Hi, just watched your video...really great. I am sooo new at this and need to know what you use to cut your stencils? A cricket? I would like to start creating some signs but the cricket is so expensive Is there another machine that just cuts stencils? Thank you!
What happens if I want to make a multiplayer stencil? For example if my design has more than one color, how can I place the stencil vinyl precisely one on the top of the other (of course waiting for the paint to dry under neath) without sacrificing precision and peeling the paint underneath? Thanks!!!!
I would suggest you use Oracal's Oramask 813 stencil film. The recommended Silhouette CAMEO cut settings for Stencil Material can be used to cut the Oracal stencil material. You can find more information here: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2018/02/painted-wood-signs-tips-for-silhouette.html
You can find all the info about the stencil paper here: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2018/02/painted-wood-signs-tips-for-silhouette.html . And it is not reusable.
I'm wondering if there is any way to use the positive and negative parts of the stencil? Using transfer tape to weed out the design? Hmmm.... you have my mind going, thanks! :)
Good idea to put a box around, and to transfer the bits over. It's great that you can have actual hoes in your masks without having to have everything joined together.
I thought so too until I cut a piece of vinyl. The material is very flimsy and stretchy, so the transfer tape helps hold everything in place, which is especially important for "floating" details like the arrow's feather details
Hey there, unfortunately, stencil vinyl is not great for creating reusable stencils. We'd suggest checking out something like Ikonart instead: sofontsy.com/blogs/tutorials/how-to-turn-svgs-into-reusable-stencils
She did what she came to do-explain how to use a vinyl stencil. We all leave educated. Isn't that what we came for? Its sad to see how much effort these diy-ers put in their videos and then some random person comes to leave a negative review because she wasn't super fast or perfect?
I like the sound of her voice! It's very FUN sounding and reeks with confidence. But I get it. Not everyone likes the sound of "every" voice. The best thing to do if that is the case, is don't listen to her. Turn down the volume, watch a different video, and/or view the school blog. I don't know if could have become as good as I've become, from listening to her voice and reading her blog. Thank you for all you do for us! I've become a vinyl-holic, and my wife the pillow maker appreciates it. (Jim)
I found it very helpful and I appreciate her for taking the time to teach others what she does know.
Great tutorial! Best tool ever is a centering ruler! You will love it!
I can't ever get stencil vinyl to work right!..
I needed this video! As a beginner it’s nice to see videos out there to help.
I've had the worst luck with stencils. I'm so glad I found this video!
Your really good at explaining things most ppl use the technical words your putting it in to basic laymen terms
I like the idea of keeping it all on the sticky mat while prepping it.
Love all the tips, tricks, and designs. Thanks for all you do!
Love all the easy ideas and tutorials
Taping to the table is genius!

love this and the tips for the wood! thank you!
Great ideas! Thank you. :)
Great information
Great Video!
thank you just what I was looking for
Great tip!
Can you not just place the stencil directly onto the wood, without the transfer tape? Thanks for sharing tips. I like the ruler gauge x
this was so helpful, thank you
Thanks so much!!
thanks for the tips
Suggestion: Make the box the size of the wood.
same can be done with vinyl . and if you do a reverse weed you will also have a decal
I bought some stencil vinyl a while back. I guess I should break open the package. :)
Definitely
Love it!!
OMG, this was great! Thank you so much. You helped me stop crying and have given me faith to try this again!
Glad we could help!

Try to increase your force.
thank you :) love the holding in place trick
That’s an amazing trick!!!! Especially for big signs! Thank u so much 😁
Glad you found this video valuable!
Thank you for the great tips . I have a question can it be reusable again if detail work. And if so how to pickup the vinyl and putting back on the backing paper.

How about for a rhinestone template? Does it have a sticky backing? How thick is it?
I don't think this would be truly thick enough for rhinestones.

Love your website! I'm a fan!

Can you use a sheet of Mylar to cut a stencil?
What happens if I want to make a multiplayer stencil? For example if my design has more than one color, how can I place the stencil vinyl precisely one on the top of the other (of course waiting for the paint to dry under neath) without sacrificing precision and peeling the paint underneath? Did you get an answer?
I bought a roll of stencil vinyl, and the Cameo doesn't cut it. What setting should I be choosing?
Cut settings for Orcal stencil vinyl?
This should have the info you need: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2018/01/make-vinyl-stencils-for-wood-signs-with.html
What setting did you use for the stencil vinyl on the cutter?
I would suggest you use Oracal's Oramask 813 stencil film. The recommended Silhouette CAMEO cut settings for Stencil Material can be used to cut the Oracal stencil material. You can find more information here: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2018/02/painted-wood-signs-tips-for-silhouette.html
I can't get the oramask to stick to the sign. Keeps coming up.
GENTLY warm the surface with a blowdryer.
Where do you purchase your stencil vinyl? Thanks
Very clear - how do I get on your site?
are the mugs washable?
what kind of transfer tip u use ?
What is the meaning to use the transfer tape then 🤔
Sorry, are you asking if transfer tape is needed?
Where do you get this stencil paper and is it reusable?
You can find all the info about the stencil paper here: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2018/02/painted-wood-signs-tips-for-silhouette.html . And it is not reusable.
What material do you choose for cuting? Would you choose Stencil Material?? I don’t see vinyl, stencil
What tool are you using to weed?
I'm wondering if there is any way to use the positive and negative parts of the stencil? Using transfer tape to weed out the design? Hmmm.... you have my mind going, thanks! :)
Good idea to put a box around, and to transfer the bits over. It's great that you can have actual hoes in your masks without having to have everything joined together.
Transfer tape seems like an unnecessary step for a stencil... right? Or am I wrong?
I thought so too until I cut a piece of vinyl. The material is very flimsy and stretchy, so the transfer tape helps hold everything in place, which is especially important for "floating" details like the arrow's feather details
Thanks for sharing !!!
Thank you
Are these reusable?
Hey there, unfortunately, stencil vinyl is not great for creating reusable stencils. We'd suggest checking out something like Ikonart instead: sofontsy.com/blogs/tutorials/how-to-turn-svgs-into-reusable-stencils
@@SoFontsy Thank you
What settings do you use.
How to make a stencil without a silouette
Can you expand on that a bit more?
Cynthia Wyatt use a clear divider and an exact knife to cut around your design.
After watching this maybe she needs to watch a few more tutorials before attempting to instruct others.
She did what she came to do-explain how to use a vinyl stencil. We all leave educated. Isn't that what we came for?
Its sad to see how much effort these diy-ers put in their videos and then some random person comes to leave a negative review because she wasn't super fast or perfect?
She’s human! I had no trouble with this video!
Coffee & Jesus? LOL Do you take your Jesus strong & black or sweet with cream? 🤣
Thank You!
Is it just me or is the video blurry in the middle of it?!
Your text in the video is in the way of your video.
Seems like ALOT of steps. I've seen videos requiring less steps. Good video though thank you
No need for the transfer paper.....
You rushed so bad you were fumbling around dropping shit, even shaky. Irked me to watch
I agree. I got anxiety watching this. I know her intention to teach was good, it just gave me really bad anxiety watching.
This is more work 🤦🏻♀️ it’s easier and quicker to just do it without these “tricks”
Very bad Demonstration!
We are so sorry you feel that way. Where do you feel we fell short?
Rude!!
The tone of your voice is very irritating
Rude Bette! I think we all just got a glimpse of your irritating traits!!
Incredibly rude. Your comment is very irritating.
Completely agree.
Then don't listen to her. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Geez!
I like the sound of her voice! It's very FUN sounding and reeks with confidence. But I get it. Not everyone likes the sound of "every" voice. Great tips!
What settings do you use for this
What cut settings did you use for the stencil material?
Default cut settings, just with a force of 14 rather than 4.
Great ideas!
