If the stencils are not reusable, what is the point of them ? Whynot just use the regular vinyl and stick that on the sign? I am a new circuit user and would really like to know this
Shellac before the stencil painting stops bleeding, so any time you’re gonna stencil a little shellac first (spray can is ideal) will stop the bleed, then you can use more shellac over the top as a sealant 😊
Awesome Angie, just brought the vinyl you were testing now I know what to do and look out for, great tips and advice, have seen others use Mod Podge Matt after they painted there project and it work also, thank you so much!!!! Hugs Liz x
Do you have a video on how to create a stencil for a wall? In your opinion, what is the best stencil material for a wall ? Thank you so much! Love your channel!
Have you done a video on how to make a stencils to use for card making? I wish Cricut would make a product that we could use on our Cricut’s to make regular stencils.
As usual Angie, you did a great job on this tutorial. I bought the new flexible film to use with my Cricut maker 3. I want to do wood burning using scorch paste, would I follow same instructions as for painting?? I don't have stencil brushes. Thank you for helping me learn more.
I'm wondering if you could reapply the transfer tape to the stencil after painting and remove the stencil while attached to the transfer tape? maybe reuse the stencil? I realize you'd need to clean the stencil unless you're using the same colors.... just wondering.... beautiful signs, by the way!
I’m trying to make my save the date invitations and I want to use vellum paper and use stencil for the words and use the embossing powder. Is there a stencil film I can use? If not what would you recommend?
I would not use stencil vinyl. This is going to be really hard given the size of the words. Can you use a pen with the adhesive in it instead and write on the vellum with a Cricut?
Question, just got the cricut 3 and i paint with an airbrush. Im painting a couple hard hats, for people at work. Now stickers on hard hats or any helmet really hard to get to lay flat. I would use sprits of water with a tiny bit of dish soap to help with positioning and prevent creasing. Would i be able to use the same method with the transfer tape?
Good video. I have never liked Cricut stencil material. The old versions that is. I found it difficult to weed. I would liked for you to use the same design on both signs for an exact comparison. I currently use Oracal Oramask 813 for stencils. Thanks Angie
Could a stencil be cut and then used as a base to emboss upon? What's the thickest material that could be used for cutting a stencil? Thanks very much.
I don't think the materials you could cut with a cricut would be rigid enough for embossing. But you can cut up to about 2 mm thick of SOME materials depending on what machine you have.
Thank you for posting this video it is so helpful! Curious, how is this any different than using non-permanent vinyl? I was hoping that the cricut would cut through the backing to allow for reuse of the same template. Having to need the transfer tape to use the stencil seems to defeat the purpose. Needed this for a long (36"+ ) design and wondered if there was a way to cut through the backing too?
You can cut through the backing but please note that without the transfer tape and this method, you will lose things like the centers of letters. You can see me use various types of vinyl for stenciling here: ua-cam.com/video/jx-ciACo0fc/v-deo.html
Hi Angie, thank you for the tutorial. I have two questions: Can you reuse the stencil? Our goal is to paint 3 sandwich board signs, front and back, so we need to use it 6 times. I'm not sure this flexible smart material can be cleaned up and reused? Is there a better material for a stencil we want to use multiple times? We were hoping not to use vinyl letters. :)
You can buy stencil film you can cut which is thin plastic sheets. You will need to make sure your design works with this though. The insides of letters have to be attached to the outside by bridges.
I have a ? Please if you have time to answer, I have been asked to make a stencil to use for spray painting company logo on tools, generator’s and such, I purchased the stencil vinyl, which I’m guessing is not what I need. Can you suggest something?
Does the stencil vinyl have a stronger adhesive? I'm trying to do a stencil for a t-shirt but the transfer medium tape doesn't come off easily and ends up taking small pieces that I want to keep. I'm currently using removeable vinyl since I don't know if permanent would be too much on cotton.
What kind of transfer tape are you using? I have some low tack Vivid stencil vinyl and am afraid small pieces will not stay on the image when I pell the tranfer tape off. I've also heard it is good to brush mod Podge on first to prevent bleeding, but is it then harder to get the stencil off after the Mod Podge dries?
But, very important! I will need it to last, like I can use the same stencil 10-20 times on my gelli plate!! Please answer this. I've already been trying different materials, had no luck.
Thanks so much for this! Curious to know what your thoughts are on using chalk paste with this vinyl. Do you think it would work without a silk screen? Thanks in advance!
Great video and did I miss something? Is that only for the Cricut maker? I was wondering if there’s anything I can use for my explore air 2? I love doing stencils.

You definitely can. I feel the stencil material works a bit better.

Mod Podge works great too!!
Do you put stencils on the project and use the shellac or shellac project then put on stencil?
@@bernydany Shellac to seal, then apply the stencil and paint the stenciled art.
Wonderful video Angie, so clear and explained so well. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing Angie. I have got to start working more with my Cricut. Joyce

Definitely a sealer after painting is a good idea!
Excellent video! Can you do a video with this stencil on materials like Tshirts, pillow cases, etc.
For fabric, I use freezer paper: ua-cam.com/video/rkfw4-JN9TM/v-deo.html
Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Sure! Any time!
Awesome tutorial Angie! As always, so helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Angie, I love your designs. Awesome😊
Thanks!
Maybe I will try the stencil vinyl again, I did not like the original stencil film before. TYFS
Happy to help!

I have used transfer tape with the wet method of application without issue! Just wait until the water dries to remove the transfer tape.

How do u stencil on textured surfaces, such as stepping stones?
Very carefully! Any texture is hard. You just have to seal it as good as you can and use VERY light coats.
Could you use the smart stencil vinyl on poster board or cardstock?? Thank you so much. Happy Crafting from Phoenix, AZ ❤️🤗
I think it would be too sticky for that and rip when you take it off.
How do you clean the back of reusable stencils that have been sprayed with adhesive or do you need to?
For reusable stencils, something like goo gone works well on the adhesive.

The non-permanent vinyl sticks a little more than the stencil
also the best part of the smart stencil is that you can make really long stencils for furniture stenciling
Oh definitely! I had zero projects that required a huge stencil!
Can you put the stencil vinyl onto cardstock? Will it rip the cardstock when pulling off the stencil vinyl?
It would rip the cardstock.
Any tips on stencils to use for light sandblasting? Any idea what mil thickness this stencil material is?
I am not sure!
Oramask 831
Question on the Cricut model. I have the original Maker. Can I use the stencil material that doesn’t require a mat?
No. You would need to use the mat.

Did you say to use Mod Podge before stencling on the wood?
You can! That way you seal your stencil edges!

My guess would be they want a reusable stencil. Try this: ua-cam.com/video/tTCSIZNh-3o/v-deo.html
Yea they want reusable. Thank you
Can these stencils be made to be able to be applied onto fabric?

Is it acrylic paint you’re putting on the canvas for the second stencil?
Yes it is!
Can this be used with the Maker? or only the Maker and Explore 3's
The one that goes on the mat for Maker and Explore 2 and earlier. "Smart" version without a mat Maker 3 and Explore 3.

I am using Cricut transfer tape. I think the Mod Podge makes everything harder to remove but it may be worth it if you get bleeding!

I would use the one on the mat.
Can I use this for doormats? With Flex Seal?

Can this be used for the Cricut Explore Family?
Yep. Any Cricut.

Is there a stencil vinyl for Explore 2?
This same one works for it as well!
Can you use removable vinyl as stencil?
