  • Reviewing Asus' Zenfone 11 Ultra, a 6.8-inch super-sized smartphone sporting similar camera tech and specs to the ROG Phone 8. There's no compact version yet, only the Zenfone 11 Ultra - but is it a rival to the Samsung S24 Ultra, Pixel 8 Pro etc?
    Well, no, not really. It's considerably cheaper than the Galaxy, but as a package Google's flagship phone is better. For one, the camera on the Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra isn't as dependable when the lighting isn't great. I also prefer the design of the Pixel 8 phones.
    That said, Asus has nailed the performance here. Genshin Impact plays with a stable frame rate for hours at a time, while the Zenfone 11 Ultra keeps its cool. Plus, the battery life is excellent so you can keep going all day with no worries.
    I like the stock Android experience here, but right now this smartphone is one of the jankiest of 2024. Here's hoping that several bugs and other bits are sorted in an update soon. But the Samsung screen is stunning and I love the audio chops of the Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra. You've even got a headphone jack!

    Why why why would they do this? ZenFone was in it's own league as by far the best compact blower, and yet they decide to take all that good will away and make a massive phone with nothing that makes it unique. I don't expect Zenfone to stick around for much longer after this

    • @TheRealAstro_
      @TheRealAstro_ 2 місяці тому

      @@jihigh482 In the current phone market, I would say 80% of the value of a phone is related to its software and OS.
      In this tier (flagship) you're getting very similar hardware to all other flagship phones, so the distinguishing factor is the OS features. Having only 2 years of OS support and updates means that after 2 years your phone will become progressively worse than every other phone at this pricepoint.
      Idk why people keep voicing this opinion when the OS is one of the biggest factors in buying a phone in 2024 so you'd think more people would realize how important it and software support is.
      In 4 years phones will have become marginally better but software will have been updated and changed drastically. The 2 years update support is planned obsolescence and also shows Asus is not confident

      The problem is not that small phones won't sell well. The problem is that no manufacturer sticks with it long enough to succeed. I only just heard about the Zenfones 9 and 10 4 months ago, and I'm online pretty often. We've gone so long without decent options that you can't expect the average user to hanging with baited breath on every smartphone announcement hoping that companies will randomly make a good compact smartphone. It needs to be around for a few iterations and several years before the average consumer will know it's an option. The Zenfone has already been gaining some massive traction. They are fools to abandon it now. Absolute fools.

I am not fussy about the lack of compact version, but for some who prefer a smaller phone, that's not good. 4 years of security updates is more important than the 2 years of OS updates, in my opinion and from experience having a Samsung S20FE 5G on Android 13 and S23 Ultra running Android 14. @@Saji_0 pixel currently uses rebranded exynos, rumours has it that will change with pixel 10. In the meantime you could look at s23 (or other options) if you dont like exynos. It should have Snapdragon worldwide.

    You are better off sticking with the Zenfone 10 or buying one when the price goes down. The classic compact look with a ton of horsepower is long gone. But bear in mind that ASUS did this since there was a major restructuring in their department last year.

    They should make a lite version of this phone (with around same large size screen) for around $400. That would be amazing but I don't think that's going to happen 😢

    Its been proven time and time again, the small fraction of the market that wants a small device just doesn't cut it for companies to justify making a small phone. Its just unfortunate how the phones we use are shaped by the majority of the market.

    Asus is not ready for normal phones, it's lacking the essentials camera quality, longevity with OS updates. You can overlook that on a gaming phone, but not in a day to day phone

    I want a phone with a headphone jack, a stylus, sd card support and a nice big screen... Any such thing anywhere? Please?
    Sony and asus are really missing an opportunity here. Both could easily make a phone in their design language (zen for asus obvs, not rog) with those features that would appeal to 'professionals' needing a smart looking device with not so much emphasis on photography but rather in productivity and keeping features that no one else is still doing. If either of them made that phone they'd smash it and gobble up a hell of a lot of customers like myself that want that sort of thing, there's literally no phone out there that does it. So frustrating!!
