- Basic overview of mouthpieces for brass instruments. The mouthpiece is the first point of contact between a musician and a brass instrument, and most players spend a long time and a fair bit of money to find the right match to their needs.
Thorough explanation on mouthpieces, thank you!
Hi
Thank you I am just starting my journey with the Trombone
So am i
@@bl0xFru1ts I'm almost on my 4th year. Just busking away
I am picking up my trombone for the first time in about 15 years. Still find my Conn 3 mouthpiece to work best for me
Just started back after 32 year break, best of luck coming back!
I can relate to both of you and I picked up the trombone for first time and 30 years 3 years. And took a break again and now I'm picking it up again to play a little bit and some gigs. A Little Chicago. It's just a student trombone my good friend and bandmate gave me ,nothing like the one I had years ago, but it's fun to play.
@@twoshooz2003 wow! 32 years, do you still remember how to play??
@@oliverdiamond6594 Probably so. I have a clarinet that I hadn't played for over 50 years, but other than squeaking more that I liked, I could finger and play it again. Some things one doesn't forget, particularly if the person was really "into it" the first time.
@@oliverdiamond6594 NOPE! I had to start from scratch!
Thank you for this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Great.
My DW 7C is my favorite to play I like the feel It has the best slur capabilities but my Bach gold 7C seems to be my most reliable…..excellent video on your part you communicate well.
Thanks for sharing!
Does anybody have input on the Laskey 59MD? I have a Laskey 59D which I love but it is too dark and muskey for me. Lacks the clarity and projection wanted. But the 59D is a perfect match otherwise, for my Conn 88H. Thank you and am a subscriber to this channel. Lot of good stuff! Will keep coming back for sure.
I wanna try a smaller mouthpiece.
My horns came with 11C mouthpieces. I assume that they are marching baritone horns. Not completely sure, but I’m in love with them already… Could use help with identifying what they are.
Identifying what kind of horn it is, or the mouthpiece? I don't know much about marching instruments, is it valved and held like a trumpet?
@@Slidefunk yep
@@Slidefunk I have photos…
@@Slidefunk took it to my local music store today. Bflat Baritone is what I was told. I always wanted to play trombone, so I guess I got one with valves! 🎺
@@jawazshabazz1604 you picked the best instrument great choice
So I’m trying to make a LARGE stationary horn, bass trombone range and as warm a tone as possible. I’m absolutely stumped as to which instrument’s mouthpiece I should use. I’m only familiar with French horn, so I was going to use the largest cup diameter French horn mouthpiece I could find, but I don’t know anymore. Any thoughts?
Like an Alphorn? That's a great question, I'm not sure I can give you a good answer. I think given the instrument's likely purpose, I would lean towards a large tenor trombone or euphonium mouthpiece. Something in the Bach 3 or 4 range. If you want something a little larger, I like the Marcinkiewicz 1.5 for it's clarity and projection.
@@Slidefunk Thank you very much! I’ll start with the tenor trombone as my local music shop has a few.
I am moving from a french horn to trombone. Most of my playing will be either jazz/swing or concert band music. Should I be using a conical mouthpiece (such as the one second from the right), which is what the french horn mouthpiece is similar to? Or should I still look at using a cup-shaped mouthpiece, such as the Denis Wick Heritage?
Because the size of the mouthpiece is so different, I'd focus on finding the right cup diameter first. Start with a Bach 6.5 or something similar. Once you become more comfortable with the trombone you can experiment with different sizes/manufactures
@@Slidefunk Thank you, Brian.
I’m so glad I didn’t get the phone because I have one
is a .500 inch bore a small shank or large shank?

WHAT IS THE USE OF THIS VIDEO??......IF WHAT REALLY MATTER IS HOW EACH MOUTHPIECE SOUNDS!!.....YOUR OLD OBJECTIVE IS NOT UNDERSTOOD!!
Well you have already an indication where you need to search. If you need a lot of feedback you know you need a heavy mouthpiece, if you want a brilliant one you need a light weight one. Also the target audience seems to be extreme beginner.
