After over 4 years, I’m still holding out hope that Dave will make Part 5 some day...
The ridiculousness of Brent traveling across the globe in anger to confront you about your love for a videogame was absolutely one of those "so crazy it works" moments within the context of the narrative. I remember watching the Ocarina of Time with lyrics video when you two released it and I remember finding the idea of Brent on a plane for hours, quietly steaming with intense anger for that long pretty hilarious. I think that was a cracking move and I'm glad you went both ahead with it.
Part 5
Coming Soon!
Eventually.
Eh, don't count on it...
I wasnt expecting an undertale reference
Seriously? A hard mode Undertale reference? You are amazing.
Part 5...?
Honestly though this is probably the most brilliant medley ever created, seriously incredible
Having the line 'twisted it into a beast' sung to a section based on Ganondorf's theme is sheer genius.
Coincidentally, I saw this comment just as the video was discussing that line.
Here I am now, bingewatched all parts ... just to realize now, that the probably final part never came to be :(
actually... I found a lot of the footage. I'm trying to put it together into something useable. Meanwhile check out Sonic the Comic the Podcast to find out what I've been doing instead of videos recently.
@@DemonTomatoDaveplease release it , love your breakdowns.
Five years later and still waiting on part five, Dave....
*clears throat.
*checks watch.
Waiting... for part 5
FavChanger Still waiting...
Yuberz still waiting
Any... day now?
STILL FUCKING WAITING XD
Still waiting.
R.I.P. Part 5
The confrontation part makes me really wish there were versions with just Brent / just Dave singing so I could truly appreciate each bit of the lyrics
This whole Medley, in combination with your "Revisiting" series, is one of the best projects that has been made on UA-cam
At this point there will never be a part five
At this point there will never be a part five
unfortunately
I have faith he’ll release it at some point. But it seems quite far away though
The confrontation scene is my favorite part of OoT from now on!
DAVE ITS BEEN A YEAR AND A HALF WHERES PART 5
I give this "making of" series my completionist score of... COMPLETE IT
Who had the Les Miserables pun with "its pace was taut yet fun", because that was brilliant
....I can't remember! I bet it's Brent's, because I seem to remember laughing a lot. Plus I probably wouldn't make the jump on my own of realising I could rhyme "taut" with "not". Love that bit. I think I'm the one who phrased the previous line to make the "power" line up.
Follow-up question: is that a prop version of "Nintendo Power" you (or Brent) made? Or don't tell me that phrase was actually in their review, because that would've been phenomenally helpful of them!!
beardedartisan
Hah! No, that was a prop Brent put together using a Castlevania game guide or something. A brentalfloss fan owns it now, I believe.
Good to know. Thanks for replying, and for this video series in general! I'm a composer (and geek), I LOVE your songs, arrangements and lyrics, and I'm learning all kinds of things!
I've seen the musical, but I don't get it?
Still waiting for Part 5 Dave!
6 Years...
Still in hope for part 5, Dave.
...and you came up with the whole scene in the shower... so many crazy things happen in this world....
Dave, I gotta say, I absolutely love your compositional style. All the little subtexts and allusions really give your music character, and I am fascinated by your explanation of it all. It reminds me of the kind of care Bach put into his counterpoint, and I commend you for such attention to detail. It's stuff like this that makes art worth it. Keep it up.
this is like the scene in Toy Story 2 when woody's excited for the next episode
"It's games as art that touch the soul." [OoT] vs "It's much more fun to play." [LttP] feels like the crux of the distinction to me. Link to the Past is much more compact than Ocarina of Time, and as such its challenges are much quicker to finish and move on to the next, which makes it more fun. While Ocarina of Time is much more expansive and majestic, inspiring more awe and wonder, but that slows down the pace of player accomplishments, making it less fun.
I just finished playing Ico, which is all about huge majestic environments and immersion, and am now seeing OoT as a sort of a midpoint between what Ico was going for and what LttP was going for.
When it exists, tho.

Dammit Dave...
i feel like a jojo fan from late 2016 to late 2018 (im waiting for part 5)
Yay, so worth the wait! And you're right - I didn't catch most of Brent's bits being "villain-ish" songs from the game (especially the field fight music). I unfortunately can't give you Patreon support atm, but I'll keep an eye out for whatever you release next! :)
watching these made me apreciate the ocarina of time with lyrics even more, great stuff!
Thanks for getting this uploaded, I find this series so interesting. Good work man!
I love watching how you guys did all this, and I love how fun you make these videos. Keep it up!
Yay! So happy this is finally here! Great vid!
man u probably know this best urself, but I feel like there is so much detail and love in this song. I am listening this really often. especially the first part sang by u does have something calming for me. Great song, thx :-)
I remember listening to the song back when it was released and just randomly found your channel a few hours ago, been watching all these parts I loved it! now I just want the fifth one...
Thank you! I've been looking forward to this forever! You're very talented with acapella and song writing, I hope I can get to your level of skill some day
Wow..I never really noticed..all those sneaky bits you added in >.> Well done.
Holy crap this was interesting! Nicely done with the music choices, I hadn't even realized the melodies!
Ah! Just found where you put part 5.. lol I’m dumb.. was waiting for it for years. Makes sense given the content 👍
wait where is it?
Well, I enjoyed these videos! As an artist who's also a musical illiterate, it was really cool to see how these songs function! Hope to see part 5 but hey, 4.5 parts is still more than I thought I'd see so I'm glad you made them!
Would love to see part five. Hope it's just a project on the back burner, rather than something that completely cooled down
Gamefan1353 This is one of the least demanding requests for part 5 so far and I genuinely appreciate that!
So yeah, I will still do part 5. It's just that I'm constantly having to do other stuff. Right now I'm making new music ready for a live show for instance.
The main problem is that I did have part five recorded... and then that hard drive died.
@@DemonTomatoDave so you’re trying to get the files back
Finally! I was waiting for this video.
thank-you for continuing the story Dave
Rewatching the series just in case part 5 comes out soon
... Okay, you hid some melodies very well. I definitely missed a few, despite listening to OoT with Lyrics dozens of times. Bravo!
Wow, I thought you were done with these videos, I'm glad you've continued :D
gratz on 100 videos :-D
You're a talented man, Dave.
Great vid mate =)
Ta Monty!
@@DemonTomatoDave Now that 2020 is finally almost over, how about starting 2021 off right with part 5? :)
@@MrKhaz101 yoooo someone here in 2020
lol
I used to love your songs with Brent, great memories.
Simply amazing
Holy shit, Dave. Some of the best proof of your fantastic arranging skills, and you'd hidden it away from us.
Two words, pure genius.
honestly Dave, you're a brilliant songwriter. There's not a lot of songs that are so brilliantly clever. Subtely referencing the melodies from Zelda like this is plain masterwork. I wanna see more medleys that work like this. Well done, mate!
It's a musicals thing! If you like that, wait til you hear Hamilton & Les Mis :D
+DemonTomatoDave speaking of les mis, you didn't mention its influence in this scene. I was hoping you'd mention it, but it was almost like you were teasing us, but never giving me the satisfaction. Oh well, I guess there wasn't a whole lot to talk about it anyways.
theultronite5000 Well, it'd be like explaining a joke. Honestly, if you know Les Mis you'll get the joke, and if you don't then having it explained wouldn't mean anything.
+DemonTomatoDave Gotta check that out!
+DemonTomatoDave okay, I can see where you're coming from. I still would've liked an acknowledgement of the reference, but I see your point
As much as I love how well thought out the melodies are, the Les Miserables reference: *chef's kiss*. Still one of my favorite song parodies.
Yes this will be brilliant!
After doing my cover of it I know the melodies fairly well yet I still only knew about half of the references. It's very interesting to hear the ideas and the process behind this epic medley.
Brilliant!
I've always wondered if the subtle nods to "Mario Land w/ lyrics" in this song are intentional or not, like when you call Brent a wazzock or even after the confrontation: "you could say that, yes". Either they're great references or I'm just reading into this too much :P
Those are both deliberate references -- and the very end, of course!
DemonTomatoDave
This puts my mind at ease, thanks!
If part 5 ever happens I will buy a legend of Zelda shirt then put ketchup on it and eat it
I was literally just watching your earlier videos and went "Hmm, I wonder when the 5th video is going to be up".
Part 5... So mysterious...
You're a genius!
Dave, you and Brent make a great team.
Ok I give up. No part five and that's it.
damn it's really been 5 years
Amazing vid, love seeing stuff like this, but looks like we'll see part 5 in 2017 ;p
brilliant
Hey, Godot just showed up!
And yet we still wait.
Still waiting for Part 5 lol
Excellent arranging skills. you must have been so immersed in the soundtrack to pull all the little snippets out of it and put them together in the shower
Well, I'm sure I handled some of the fiddly details after the shower when I was writing it down, particularly the sneakier tunes in Brent's part. But yeah, you have to know the source material pretty well to make something like this feel natural.
+DemonTomatoDave Yeah I don't doubt it. I can only think of a few games where I could even begin to attempt something like that with the soundtrack.
You could have mentioned the main theme popping up in the bit at the end that Brent wrote, I'll assume you just forgot. I'd never have noticed the 'bad guy' themes in Brent's half of the confrontation though, I always wondered what those melodies were from!
Gerry Brazell
Omg you're right, I should totally have mentioned that! I even started talking about it, maybe it got cut (this one's been edited for a while and I spent ages syncing the music transitions up etc, so I can't quite remember). Maybe I'll remember to mention it in the next one. Thanks for the reminder!
Fair enough, we forgive you :p Great job regardless!
Awesome!!! Haha
Still waiting for part 5... :)
The confrontation is one of my favourite parts of the song!
Though I didn't find it too subtly villanous at first since it seemed you were backing away from Brent so when the Zelda theme part came on, I was a bit confused since I thought you were the good guy.
Condolences on the hard drive crash. That is really unfortunate and makes the continuation of this series difficult for sure.
Ta. I think I only lost the video though, and still have all the actual song stuff & clips, so it should be possible to do again. Now I just have to find the time!
Well that's some good news for sure (though I know how disheartening it can be to lose any amount of progress). Good luck with the rest of it!
I wonder how many older comments make note of the part with Ganondorf's Theme mentioning something being twisted into a beast.
So, silly as I am, I never stumbled upon this series until a year after you started it (2 years after the song's release).
And I'm too early it seems as part 5 is still in the works. Now I must withstand the pain of patience.
It's alright past me, the patience will eventually evaporate into the forgotten realm
FINALLY!!!
It's 2018, yet no part 5 :'(
Wow that’s all so clever 😯
Sheit we need part 5 Right now xD
Part 5 any day now...
I hope people realize the Confrontation borrows from Les Miserables, it was great. Especially with Colm Wilkinson squeak.
May part 5 rest in peace.
I think we ended up in the fallen hero time line. :p
Didn't you use the Confrontation scene from Les Miserables at one point? That was my favorite part :) you're truly a genius when it comes to arranging music.
I’m not expecting part 5, but i’m still hoping
You shouldn't be surprised noone found all the references to original OOT tunes in the confrontations. Some of the reference are veeeery losely based the originals, to the point where even after you pointing the reference out its hard to impossible to hear it. One example is Ganondorf's Theme ( 09:21 )
Great vid, but anyone else notice how Bretts ending sounded familiar. To me it sounds a lot like his original "Zelda with Lyrics", mainly the part where he goes : "won't you feel like a man, dressed up like Peter Pan, on a quest greater than...."
Good catch! That's because we're singing the same part of the Zelda theme there. It's also the same part I sing immediately before it: "A story that grips / Without relying on some pre-rendered clips / It's a method that went on to eclipse / All others to this day"
We've both covered the Zelda theme before, so we did run the risk of retreading old ground a bit - but then, when you're singing about one of the most famous Zelda games, you've just got to throw that classic theme tune in there somewhere, even if it doesn't actually appear in the game!
Oh I didn't want to imply it was bad or out of place. It fit really well with the song, just wanted to point out how people might try to look for an Ocarina of Time tune to fit there when I thought it was really something else.
Yay! :D
buen video jumex
back for my yearly where’s part 5
I actually thought the "story that grips" part was taken from the background of the fairy fountain song
Has anybody ever tried to make a cover/version of this song, Ocarina of Time With Lyrics, with the original versions of these songs in the medley? It'd be interesting to hear.
Holy shit. I never noticed any of them. And l listen to it very often
Andddddd Part Five!!! Not... Ever... Not even in 2018
I guess part 5 will come out this christmas :D
But how did Brent's plane become a 747 in mid-flight?
3 years and still no part 5
When’s part 5 Dave?! It’s been 2 years!
Still waiting for that (missing) part 5
my man Dave, do you ever plan on releasing an isolated vocal track version of the song and maybe the piano version? Also, how are you doing?
Where's part 5? Common Dave!
I'd like to ask, when recording the actual acapella itself, how do you keep in time? Is it just good self timing? Or do you crop the spaces so it matches? Maybe I just need more practice, but it'd be great to hear from you anyway :D
I've always got a click track running to keep me in time, but if I get it wrong I don't mind shifting th recording about a bit. Timing is really important if you want these to sound good
