Super Mario Land With Lyrics - Behind The Scenes

- Mario Land With Lyrics is both my latest song, and brentalfloss' latest song! I'm going to tell you how I built a brentalfloss song entirely out of my stupid voice.
The Song itself (watch this song first): • Super Mario Land WITH ...
And here's the drawing of Brentalfloss that you see in the video. I drew it a while ago to see whether I could draw him, when I was going to be a guest artist on the Brentalfloss.com webcomic www.abigailryder.com/comics/20...
For some reason nobody can understand me when I say that the program I'm using is called "Reaper," so I shall hereby tell you what it is called: "Reaper." - Комедії
Among Dave's many talents is voice impressionism.
is that zero punctuations, his voice sounds like him
no it doesn't you loser
I'd love to see a Without Lyrics Version. Please.
Brent: Hey Dave, what am I?
Dave: Stupid
Brent: No Im Texas
Dave: whats the difference?
... No Spongebob. Just no.
1:56 False. I live in Texas and you were spot on
SAME.
Maybe it's just the barbershoppy feel that acapella inherently carries, but this song gave me a massive deja vu to Billy Joel's 'For The Longest Time.' Which is inherently awesome.
You posted a "first" comment. I'm afraid your argument is invalid.
Please release the acapella soundtrack separately please. It is so awesome!
It would be great
Thumbs up if you agree
RIP "Without Lyrics" of Super Mario Land
Magitroopa (luigistar11) I still have hope
it's on his patreon
Magitroopa (luigistar11) Why do you say that?
I quite like seeing your behind the scenes stuff. As someone who loves to whistle along to music and even bop along with it in the car (and even sing when nobody else is on the road, and have done so with one of your songs, even!), seeing how someone does that with ten-plus of himself is fascinating and even kind of inspiring. Looking forward to your next works!
I've noticed that Brent's part in the song is more towards Mario Land and daves part is more towards portable gaming
Man, kudos to you for yet another job well done, Dave. You're totally one of my vocal heroes for all the rad acapella stuff you've done through the years.
12:17 Woah, that hair caught me off-guard! XD
I know, I've been on too long a break from doing songs, but it was for a reason! Last time I had a break this long it was because I was actually recording the big Christmas medley. This time it's been because I'm making comics. Still making 'em, but now I'll be doing some songs as well. :)
Hehe, I'm afraid SaxdudeMaloyS26 is right, I just had two pictures in a folder, double-clicked one, and then used the cursors to switch between them. You can see me doing it when it zooms out. NO EXPENSE SPARED! Incidentally, I've now added a link to the picture in the video description if anyone wants a better look. I drew it back in January just to see if I could draw him.
4:00 That song was actually on the radio just last week. It was definitely a strange experience
You and Brentalfloss did such a bang-up job with the video. It was funny, and your capabilities really compliment each other.
Your work on that song was phenomenal. After not seeing any videos from you all year, it was an exciting surprise to see you appear on Brentalfloss' channel. And it's great to hear you have more music coming. :)
Dave, you always have the most amazing ways to end videos.
And recording videos. And recording songs. And living apparently.
You have an interesting approach and I am really glad to say that I have walked out here with more knowledge on the topic then when I came in with. Thanks Dave you helped a fellow singer/musician out :)
Great to see the exact process of piecing this all together, you sure did incredibly with this. Looking forward to more a cappella in future, you always do an astounding job. :)
I like the fact that over the past five or so years I've been following you, you've become progressively more awesome.
This was incredibly fascinating to watch (well, listen to--currently at the office!). Thanks for recording the creative process. It's especially intriguing for non-musicians like myself who happen to have a giant penchant for musical nerdery and video game tunes. You're an excellent speaker and demonstrator, I must say. I especially enjoyed the impeccable American impressions. C'MON OVER TO 'MURCA, SON!
Subscribed, and eagerly awaiting whatever new content you throw our way.
I just friggin lost it at your brental floss impressions. I'm so glad I subscribed to you.
Bro, please do this without lyrics, I would love it!
Can i just understand why you're so freaking good and catchy? Oh and also, kudos for all your work :)
Hey Dave, you've probably heard this before, but you probably have "pitch recognition," or, as it's often called, perfect pitch. Also, you have a high level of audiation (the ability to hear something in your head and produce it with your voice). If you haven't been trained in music, then you have a gift, friend! I've been a fan since "Not Roy's" and I love all of your work. Keep it up! :-)
Brilliantly done! Great editing here.
I compose music but I've never recorded my voice before, so it still knocks my socks off when I hear other people doing it so successfully. You sound spot-on both here and in the Ocarina of Time video (my new favorite), and it was great to hear you belt your stuff during the "fugue" parts of the duet. You've got my subscription, keep up the good work man.
...I still find myself coming back to this video and the Brentalfloss impression kills me *every damn time*.
I have to say I'd never come across you before Brentalfloss, but your voice! Absolutely dreamy, loving the smoothness you get, and acapella is so difficult...I was really impressed, I'll be watching you much more often. By the way 'wazzock' is definitely one of our better insults here in the UK. Loved the way you guys included it :D Hoping to see more awesome stuff from you in the future!
i have to admit, you full justified your reason behind knowing the song by heart, also great music u make sir
I have always been very interested in how acapella's work when you make them, so I liked to watch this! :)
You should totally do another work with brentalfloss, I loved Super Mario land with lyrics! ^w^ You two work well together!
You and Brent did awesomely on this, Dave! I'm a big fan of both of your's. I'll still link my friends your "Not Roy" vid on a regular basis because it's so brilliant. :)
My man has gone back and made timestamp chapters on this old video, yet he still refuses to make part 5 of ocarina of time behind the scenes/music analysis.
This sounds great! Please do as much as you can pretty please!
I would kill for a more musical version of this song. You are clearly the amazingest, and I would love a version that's all about making a clean A Capella version without the banter between you and Brentalfloss, as much I love him. Because it's a great tune, even without the jokes!
Wow! You can't fully appreciate your amazing A Capella kills with Brent being his awesome sarcastic ass self (that is a complement to him, fyi). You are very skilled. I would love to have the finally cut of just you uploaded.
I always knew Birabuto would sound great a capella, and you've proven it! Have a very belated subscription.
Thanks! I hardly have any actual musical education though, just a couple of years of piano lessons when I was a kid that didn't go anywhere. I've always just been interested, I suppose. I'll be doing a video soon about good kids' records I grew up with, and then after that I used to play with keyboards, Protracker on the Amiga, midis at the end of the 90s, just tinkering here and there. Almost all my skills at doing these I learned while doing these, including how to sing.
Amazing, dude! That's talent right there. I wish I had half the talent you do when I make my videos.
I'd love to hear your version jut A cappella or your original nostalgic to the game lyrics! As the game was of course on of my favorites as a kid, and also my favorite ending theme ever. :D
Came here from my subs and not BrentalFloss's video, cause I think your A cappellas are amazing! Keep up the good work!
Wow, that is just awesome, Dave.
I was a fan of Brent before this video, and i'd always wondered what would happen if you two got together for a collab. and it didn't disappoint i'll tell you guys that much, Great Vid, hope you guys team up again some time)
High five! Clearly we are musical connoisseurs, even though folks around our way think we're strange
Holy crap! You still have that video on file?! You, my friend, just got +200 respect points!
It's "Super Mario Land" by Ambassadors of Funk feat. MC Mario, and it's from the album Super Mario Compact Disco. You'll probably find both in the related videos, I can see them from here.
Amazing. Great work.
Oh wow, you actually do a tutorial on how to create stuff like this? Thank you so much! I'm going to try this out as soon as possible.
Hey Dave, do you think you and Brent could release a "without lyrics" version of this song? I love this song so much and would listen to listen to it without lyrics just as much as with!
oh crikey yeah, I keep forgetting I'm supposed to be doing that :b
Well, whenever you get around to it is fine. I appreciate it!
+DemonTomatoDave I think you forgot to do it
Félix Brais-Brunet
It does kind of seem that way. lol
it's on his patreon
Considering how much I absolutely love your work and the work of one Brentalfloss, I apologize for the following contents of this comment. *ahem*
asdfuohuidhsalfihdauleluansdkfjdaksjfieoahksfvuiadulfhaskllhfdasjlhfdjklshfddaskjlfhkdlahfdklsakldfhlkjdlkjkfliueuibauliebuailsdhfiuwlehfilaenhcrhfniaegfkvnhwefnhaeilurnfaeydutbfydbiddsydvybwehuilfiludsffdiuladf OMFG YOU ARE THE BEST PERSON IN EXISTENCE
the actual video i thought was hilarious and the behind the scenes. well. it's EVEN funnier i just can't put words to how much this made me 'crease up' (LMAO) fun video very interesting in the parts that needed great stuff :)
I can't believe you opened the video with lyrics from that Ambassadors of Funk Mario Land song.
dude, dave, i've been trying to find your channel for millenia!
Dave,
Can you please make a without lyrics version? Like keep the beginning, keep the acapella, but take out the lyrics all throughout, then keep the ending? This would do all of your fan base of this song a HUGE favour!
Thank you!
The beginning really craked me up, Subbed :)! Do more collabs with him!
It's okay. I was just making a joke. I'm just happy to have been a part of this magical experience. i.e. getting a reply from brentalfloss on a video that's not even his. That's even cooler than just getting a regular ole' reply from one of your normal vids :)
Well, we did write lines for each other here and there, but sometimes we came up with more than one option and then talked about which would fit together best. You know, I've always wondered how two people write one thing together, and now I've done it, it's actually hard to explain, because there's a point where suddenly it's something you've both made, instead of two halves. We were both suggesting changes and improvements on each other's lines, so by the end we really had written it together.
I didn't realise it was A-capella nice work!, also we seem to share a taste in mug coasters.
Yaaaaay Dave is actually doing something again :D. Happy.
"That's absolutely going ahead, that'll come out pretty soon"
And yet here we are almost 4 years later...
awesome tune. awesome arrangement. awesome texas and new york accent. you're beast, DemonTomatoDave
Ahh yes, of course! THAT'S what we did, it's all coming back to me now!
I would set the demo tune as my ringtone..... very clear and simple and sparkly!
It's tricky to answer that. It took weeks and weeks, but we could only get little bits done each week. I had a very busy schedule making comics (you'll see them soon), Brent was travelling around doing all sorts of exciting things, and there's a terrible timezone problem that means when one of us is wide awake and ready to work, it's the middle of the night for the other one. I can't really tell how long the project actually took, if you see what I mean.
Ok I'm sold I've subscribed, love your music wanna hear more :3
Funny you should ask that! Just last night over on Twitter, Brent convinced me to stop mucking about and actually do it this month. I don't know if I can get the video done in that time, but the song... yeah, I can do that. So it's possible!
Well, I used Reaper to actually record the multi-track song, but bear in mind that the final mix was done by Joe Skinner from greyspaceaudio, he made it sound good. He's a pro, so he probably uses all sorts of clever things I don't know about.
What was that quick video you showed. The guys dancing were hilarious!
Ay, aaay, aaaaaaay, Dave!
People are still hoping for this without lyrics!
Super Mario Land by Ambassadors of Funk. It was out in '92 or '93, something like that. Same time as Tetris by Doctor Spin and Supersonic by H.W.A. Those tunes weren't even retro back then! Go and check them all out on UA-cam, I bought 'em all and I'd do it again!
It was the first cassette I ever bought myself. The Jurassic Park theme 'single' was the first CD I ever bought myself. I was the epitome of cool.
Love this song great job... :-)
"The bass line carries what you feel about the melody"
I could not agree more, there's something to those videogame theme bass lines that can't be explained with words, but you've come as close as I can think of :)
"When Brentalfloss Did Words the On Mario Land Um."
Good name. ^-^d
In a regular, five piece band, the bass line will be the music played on the bass guitar. (It's basically the part of the song that holds the rest of the song together ... of course, that's debatable)
Dear mister DemonTomato, as much as we have enjoyed the full version of the song, some of us might appreciate the full a-capella background track on its own, and we would enjoy it if you uploaded a video containing such.
With love, an adoring fan.
This was the video that made me get into the daw REAPER.
Hahaha, I lost it at Dave's impression of brentalfloss. xD
Thanks a lot!
thank you!
Dave, you're kind of adorable. Just thought I would let you know.
PS. I love your "stupid" voice. I think it's fantastic, and you actually have a very nice voice!
Ok thanks. its really catchy. I listen to it at least once a day on here (since i cant find it on any website for free) I'm cheap lol.
"Welcome, and enter the center of my Super Mario adventure"... I see what you did there :D
But _do you_? Those are the opening lyrics to the _original_ Super Mario Land with lyrics song:
Super Mario Land: Ambassadors of Funk featuring M.C. Mario Side A: Super Mario Land (Radio Version)
That was my point... I have it on tape XD
I'd love the instrumental version too please. I only wish I can do this...I can sing, but I don't excatly have the lungs of a singer for chords and a bass. Although you are inspirational and a breath-taking vocalist. I'm not trying to butter you up to post the instrumental, or as PatJamma calls it, the A Capella. I honestly admire your singing.
Awesome video ^_^ Will you be doing more stuff with Brent?
Dave uses Reaper? Based.
Yes I do! ...Is that based?
Hey, Dave! I was hoping we could get a " without lyrics" version of this song. I was kinda hoping I could win a talent show by singing it with a friend!
Welcome into the center, of my super mario adventure. My girl is trapped on the other side of town and im running in leaps a bounds. -Good Intro words Dave ;)
10:52 - Your colour-coding schema is confusing as all hell, hahah. Really interesting video though, I enjoy these "Behind the Scenes" ones a lot.
Good question. Generally speaking, unless you're a master vocalist, the accuracy of the notes you hit will decrease the faster you sing. It's just how voices work, the notes will slide into one another and it can sound ugly. If it was done by someone who can separate their notes out rapidly (or if you don't mind it being heavily edited) then yeah, just about anything could work a cappella.
I like your demo version much more personally. I'd love to hear a full version.
Thank you for the response. And well done, sir! (I forgot to mention that before.)
_psst you forgot about the without lyrics version again_
Just wanted to comment as to how much I love that set up you've got there/ say that the song was really well done. I may sound like a no-nothing when I ask this but, the screen that is hovering behind you, is that a drawing tablet or a PC monitor?
Hi DemonTomatoDave. I just discovered you through the Mario Land song (however, a long time ago found the Yulysses 31 song from my love of old cartoon theme songs), and I was wondering if you could do a vlog about your musical history and education, and what led you to where you are today? (Even if it's presented in the form of a song, that would be fine too, as that's where you seem the most comfortable). ^_^
Thanks a whole bunch, mate. XD
The left and right buttons with two slightly different Brent pictures viewed in PictureViewer?
Depends. I'm guessing really good mics going through a really good setup don't experience latency, or compensate for it. My mic sometimes does and sometimes doesn't. Sometimes it thinks it did, didn't, compensates, and the line ends up playing too soon instead of too late. So yeah, sometimes I do have to shift the lines. Interestingly, this wasn't a problem back when I was using Garageband. Either that or I wasn't good enough at it back then to notice.
Hi Dave, Could you please release a without lyrics of Super Mario Land?
i seeeriously need to start doing this too.. i just don't have time really.. but. i need too
Great! Apart From The Part About Sunshine. -____-
