I connect my Mac and PC laptop through thunderbolt. It's a weird use case, but I didn't wanted another gaming monitor, so I just use the studio display with a HP Omen with a 3070 and plays Rocket League at 5K no problem. Love this monitor for my Mac-pc balance.
Thank you for the review! I've had the monitor for 3 months and feel about the same. I really spun my wheels about the studio display. Got it for work and use it really only for work (gamer PC is downstairs) and it has been wonderful, it replaced a 165Hz 3k 32 inch Asus and has been great. The camera is good enough for work, the sound is stellar (and no wires for speakers), and the pixel density is wonderful for what I spend most of my day doing, looking at the written word and/or code. In particular, I like how well my Apple stuff connects to it. My Asus monitor would regularly have issues with docking stations and forget the direct connect, so I got this one and it charges my Macbook Pro M1 (14) and I sometimes connect my tablet instead and that works as well. It has been great and I have stopped second guessing. I went with the VESA attachment instead of the base stand and haven't regretted that either.
I have 2 of these that I use everyday for Finance work and Video Editing. They are luscious! They look so great that I don't even notice them during working hours. I could relate with your video. Good job!
A13. I had an LG 40" widescreen, sent it back - I was so disappointed with it and should have just gone for the Apple Display in the first place. Despite being slightly more expensive for essentially a smaller screen. After all, Apple does it best whether you like it or not. I am a big Apple fan, and would not consider anything else.
Missing 120hz is a dealbreaker, when all my apple devices I have have promotion already I can’t go back to ancient 60hz. Still seems like a great monitor otherwise. A13.
The design is so incredibly perfect. But when I spend so much money I don't want to compromise. That's also the reason why I'm waiting for a successor. I want 120HZ and Mini LED or OLED. My Macbook Pro takes a better picture and just because of the design I prefer to wait.
@@JamesLauricia7When Thunderbolt 5 Macs are a thing. There’s not enough bandwidth to drive 5K/120 on Thunderbolt 4 without using DSC, and Apple won’t compromise.
Nice review - thanks. I am looking to buy one in 2024 because there just doesn't seem to be a monitor out there with the same build quality and pixel density as the studio display but I am holding out to see if a new one with improvements will be released in 2024. I would like to see Promotion support at 120hz and I would also like to see a removable power cord. I just don't like the idea of having a non removable power cord especially considering I have dogs that can easily chew it and then would suffer the inconvenience of not being easily able to have it replaced. Aside from that, I think it is a beautiful display and look forward to eventually purchasing one.
Rumor is that a 120hz display may release when Thunderbolt 5 rolls out. 5K is a niche resolution that's mostly geared towards MacOS, so not many options. Main competitors would be older LG Ultrafine 5K and the new Samsung ViewFinity S9 5K. The MSRP of the Samsung display is way too high, but they go on sale much more than Apple does. I've heard some sales bringing it to sub $1000, and you can get refurb ones for like $800 or so. Makes it pretty competitive at that price considering a height adjustable ASD is $2K lol
they would need to upgrade this monitor with a higher refresh rate and even better display. I have one of these at work and it only helps for specific tasks. and I only use it since I use a Mac Studio
Thanks for this video. I first looked for the new iMac and this Studio Display is next to the iMac and I see " oh the 27" looks not so big " to compare to the iMac. So I choose the Studio Display with the MacMini M2 Pro. And with the config of the MacMini with 16GB Ram and 515GB SSD it cost me less then the new iMac with the same config 🙂 And now I don't must buy every 10 years a new iMac ;-) I think the Studio Display works more then 10 years and in this config I only must buy a new MacMini when there's no updates more for the system. And the old MacMini maybe I can sold by eBay or other. For my 2013 iMac that still work perfect I get no updates since last year and that's makes me angry! A good working machine for recycling so Apple want 😞 For me the price is not too much, you must see the complete package 🙂 P.S. I bought a used MacMini M2 Pro for 900€ ( new 1549€ ) that was a good deal on eBay 🙂
No Face ID is so sneaky from Apple. If you’re in the ecosystem, which you almost have to be to purchase this, you probably use face or Touch ID for passwords, especially the Apple created ones. By not having Face ID it basically makes it so you have to have a Touch ID keyboard if you want to use your laptop in desktop mode or are using a studio/mini.
They should take off the cam, speakers and a13 and externalisé power unit to make it slimmer. This way we can have a studio display air that is more affordable.
Thank you for the excellent review! I've had mine for a little over a year now, and definitely love it. However, I find myself regretting to not fully do my homework on choosing between the standard display and the nano glass display. I accurately (in my own personal use case) opted for the tilt and height adjustment, but I wish I would've done my due diligence before choosing to go with the standard glass display without actually going to an Apple Store to check out the nano display and compare in person. Don't get me wrong, I love the clarity of the standard glass, but there are some reflections that I find distracting, as well as the standard glass being a total dust magnet! Still, I am very happy with it. So happy to come across your channel and this awesome review! You have a new subscriber in me! I look forward to viewing more of your content! Cheers!
A-13. Thank you, for an excellent detailed long term review of the Apple "Studio Display". I agree 100 percent with your comments. Hi Andrew, thanks for this useful tutorial. I use DaVinci Resolve for my video editing and I do a lot of colour grading too. Do you think this display is good enough for what I am doing?
A13. I have the 34” 5k LG monitor. I find myself only using half of the monitor at any given time. I really like the LG but I think it’s time for a downsize and upgrade.
The price point mentioned has returned and I assume the monitor is the same. There seems to be a bewildering variety of monitors with great options. One, however, is of interest that I’m wondering is a deal-breaker, a KVM switch. The lack of ports including an Ethernet port, latest Tb4 ports, even perhaps an SD card and others, seem too great to ignore in this monitor.
Great review - I love the studio display which, for me, replaced an 8 year old iMac 27 (along with a MacBook Pro M3 Pro 1T). Killed two birds with one stone. Yes, it's pricey, but the total cost even with the middle tier M3 Pro MacBook Pro, is only 15% or so more than a maxed out iMac 27 would have been a couple of years ago. The only comment I have heard consistently is disappointment with the camera - I do not agree, but everything is relative (coming from an 8 year-old iMac). But even compared to my iPad Pro M1, it is at the very least on par. I believe there was a major firmware update that corrected many of the camera issues. And center stage is a brilliant innovation on both devices and works equally well on both. With Apple's new desktop strategy, this is a must (seamless integration with the MacBook Pro for example). Thanks and keep up the good work! I would buy this again if given the choice.
I wanted to get the studio display but I am really an ultrawide girl since I use spreadsheets and have a lot of windows open all the time. Great update though!
27” and 120hZ would make it much more compeliing, when there are options to have 4K/32/240hz oled ips with hdr for 0.5 of the price of this display with coating / stand, it’s hard sell. Gonna wait for the next generation of the Mac display with immaculate design of theirs, probably with support of 2 inputs too

The web cam is fine it’s literally on par with the web cam in any Mac, HDR also is a gimmick most ppl are not watching HDR content, and you’re not really supposed to use a PC with a Apple display. Also the reason the display probably doesn’t seem as vibrant for you in low light probably has to do with the nano texture display. No one should get that option because it isn’t as contrasty as the glossy display, mine is super vibrant even in low light
every monitor marginal shifts colors with time. please do not buy apple nonsense that it does not need to be calibrated with time. at this price point, it should cover 100% adobeRGB and it does not.
But thats the problem, no one cares about 100% RGB, except pro photographers. I would buy it yesterday if it had it. Non the less, it is a beautiful thing.
Unfortunately, Apple has not dropped the narcissism that Steve Jobs also had. That's why they come up with a beautiful aluminum monitor, the Studio Display, which has a number of drawbacks such as a non-removable power cable, a much too high price and unaffordable accessories. I hope for an update of the Studio Display where they at least change the above things. No more narcissism Apple!

$1599, you're Australian mate, it's $2499 here...
every monitor marginal shifts colors with time. please do not buy apple nonsense that it does not need to be calibrated with time. at this price point, it should cover 100% adobeRGB and it does not.
But thats the problem, no one cares about 100% RGB, except pro photographers. I would buy it yesterday if it had it. Non the less, it is a beautiful thing.
@@billmorris3334 thanks. indeed apple has the unique ability to repackage 4-5 year old tech, in a shiny box and charge top tier prices for it.
Totally not worth the price. This year, the new QD oled panels are superior and cheaper
With such a high price tag, you'd hope this display would be made in the US!
No.

60 Hz for 15 hunnit 😂😂😂
OK for apple arcade, terrible for gaming 😂
No chance with competitive gaming but for casual Mac games that don't require higher refresh rates, it works well enough
