One of my readers sent me this video and I can’t tell you how much it made my day. This is a great review and I’m so happy you caught a lot of the vibes and themes I was aiming for. And you even looked up the monster’s name meaning! You’re awesome.
To answer your question on Angela and Chrissy’s age, I was going for a few things there. In the few chapters where ages are mentioned it mostly comes from Jackson’s narrative, and I intentionally got wonky with all the kid’s ages (including a little in the chapter where Jackson remembers the camping trip) because I wanted to show that even before he became who he was, he never really KNEW his children. So he kind of gets it wrong just a little bit. Also, I wanted the ages to be a little amorphous because these poor kids never really got to be kids anyway. I also tried to showcase this with the dialogue, where sometimes they talk above their ages and sometimes turn into almost toddlers in their thinking. In one example, Angela makes a comment about kids her age should just be talking about vaping, which is kind of something an older person would say about “kids these days.” I wanted to show that she’s completely out of touch with her own age group because she’s never really had the chance to be one.
Anyway, this review is just so amazing and it made my day. Thanks for your review. You absolutely rock.

@@GageGreenwoodWrites that makes so much sense!!! Thank you for explaining that. And thanks for watching! I absolutely ADORED this novel and cannot wait to read more from you. This book was so well written and just so beautifully devastating. Definitely one of my favorite reads of the year by far!

I'm so happy to hear you liked this so much! It was a 5-star read for me too, one of my favorite reading experiences of the year so far. The characters are just amazing, flawed and damaged and wonderful. And, like you say, I loved how no one is safe and just how relentless the story felt. And yet, it never got too heavy. Such a well crafted book, I'm so happy I found it.

@@mariewesterlind It was so amazing!! I’m so glad Twisted Retreat included it in their box, otherwise I don’t know if I would have ever come across it. Definitely a top 5 read for me so far this year 🤗

I was just wondering if you read Ghost Camera by Darcy Coates and what you thought about it
