I check out mentally whenever i hear "Lord of the Flies" bc that book was not fun for me at all. I recognize it is iconic though.

Yeah, Lord of the Flies is definitely an intense novel. I found this one to be a bit more tame tbh.

@@violetprynnesuper intense! Anything dystopian makes me TOO SAD [particularly where the people do not band together and protect eachother]. Lord of the flies was assigned reading in my junior year of higschool. The teacher gave us some good classics to read but they were all dystopian and/or super dark! With him we read LOTF, 1984, Macbeth, and Great Expectations..😂☠️. The dystopian novels always make me super sad but Macbeth and Great Expectations were exciting & went down as favorites for me. However you can see a theme with the things he chose, they're all super dark lol those morbid English teachers are savage...I usually joke with them like "are we reading a less intense book next?" They then pretend they don't know what the word "intense" means lol how convenient for them. I was a teacher aid in an 8th grade class where she had them read SOLELY holocaust, internment camp, and dystopian content lol miserable woman tbh.
