Love the addition to your intro! And your pjs are so cute! I still haven't given SGJ another shot after Mongrels. I know he has lots of things that are very different and make work better for me, but I just haven't built up the courage to pick up anything else yet. But you did an excellent job reviewing this! I'm currently reading Bound in Blood (bookish horror anthology edited by Johnny Mains) and A Season with the Witch by J.W. Ocker which I'm loving! It's a travelogue about him and his family's experience living in Salem for the month of October. I've never been so this is helping me live the experience vicariously lol 🎃🦇👻🐈⬛️🧡
I greatly disliked Mongrels, though I will say I think I Was A Teenager Slasher has a lot of similarities, but the story is much better and much easier to read. It's also less of a slice of life book, and more an actual origin story of a slasher villain.
I wasn't a fan of My Heart... butI gave this one 5 stars! I do love slow books so I didn't struggle to just go along with the story.... I absolutely loved Tolly (and Amber!).
To be honest, I’m not sure this the channel for me. You seem very nice, and I love your honesty about the books. However I’m not into blood/gore/body horror/animal abuse. I’ve been watching your videos to see if you had any recommendations for more mild books. I think I’m more of a person who likes spooky, cozy, paranormal, and golden age mystery books. I’m deciding at this time if I should leave. I hope you understand if I do choose to leave. Again, I like you, but I’m just not into any of the books you’ve reviewed since I subscribed 🙂
That's absolutely fine and understandable. My channel is all horror. I do cozy horror sometimes and have a whole video on Darcy Coates (who is all cozy horror) if you're interested. But I don't stick to one style of horror. I like to read a large range. But thanks for watching up til now
I’m currently reading my very first Stephen Graham Jones novel, The Only Good Indians, and I am not liking it at all. I hate slashers but I love Indigenous horror so that’s why I picked that one. His writing style is not for me. It’s like he doesn’t know how to use periods and all his sentences are all paragraph long with 20 commas. I’m about 40% in but I’m going to keep going just because I want to see if the story gets better. Have you read Sisters of the Lost Nation by Nick Medina? He is another Indigenous horror author and I just got done reading that one as well, but I loved that book and his writing style. It’s more of a mystery/crime genre, but it still incorporates horror elements. And most importantly, there’s no basketball whatsoever in either of his novels. I hate basketball AND slashers. Overall, I have to say Stephen Graham Jones is overrated and I do not like his writing style at all.
I was not a fan of The Only Good Indians AT ALL. So I totally get that. I own Sisters of the Lost Nation, but I haven't read it yet. And I'm happy to hear there is no basketball. I, too, don't care for basketball usually. haha
Paused at the spoiler section, definitely plan to read this one. Please let it be a stand-alone!
❤ Saturday videos!!!❤️
I hope you enjoy it! It really made up for the disappointment I had in SGJ's last release.

I need more teenage slasher characters from SGJ! He writes them so well!
