The songs by themselves are great but this is one case you need to know the whole context in which the song is a part of so it is better understood. This is a great song but it is part of a larger story and is best listened to as a whole. It's kind of like reading a book by starting in the middle without knowing where the story began.

One of the best metal albums of all time. This is an anthem of the 80's, on the same level as Pink Floyd's the wall. The is one of my favorite songs of all time... You guys should look up the story of the album and listen to the entire thing in succession. "She made a difference, I guess she had a way of makin' every night seem bright as day... now walk in shadows, never seen the light, she must have lied 'cause she never said goodbye...."

I think it’s funny that some of the bands from the 80’s are considered ‘metal’. The metal genre changed dramatically after the 80’s.
This is more like rock, but it was insane crazy metal in the 80’s. Lol
Btw, I love Queensryche, Ozzy, Metallica and MegaDeth.
Not much of a fan of Slayer, Judas Priest or Iron Maiden.

    • @erikthompson619
      @erikthompson619 6 місяців тому

Wrong. Truth of the matter, Geoff Tate has had very little formal vocal training at all. He became aware of his own amazing vocal range more or less by accident, considering himself mainly a keyboard player until he realized that in all the compositions he contributed to his respective bands, he was himself the only one in every band that could actually hit all the high notes in his own vocal lines - the lead singers rarely if ever could do the same.

Geoff Tate of Queensryche, Ann Wilson and her youngest sister Nancy Wilson, the late Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and the late Chris Cornell of Soundgarden lived in Metro Seattle in the 1970s. They were students of the late singing coach David Kyle. Marilyn Horne and Frederica von Stade, who moved to the Bay Area, where I am, were his other students.

Both bands have rights to perform the from old albums songs! Current Queesryche has new albums and Todd la Torre is a powerhouse vocalist. Sounds so much like Geoff. Its complicated! But there are 16 albums total! Silent Lucidity WILL be my funeral song!

I guess what I meant was considering that Degarmo chose to leave the band in 1997 the band obviously should continue on as Queensryche. But when Tate was fired in 2012, now we have 2 core members gone, only Wilton and Jackson only original members left. I understand why Wilton goes out as Queensryche, it is a "brand' name, you have the security and recognition of the name. If Jaggar and Richards left the Rolling Stones would the other members still go out as the Stones ? Maybe a terrible example but you get the jist. I could be entirely wrong but it is just my opinion. Cheers. @@madpriest7822

The best way to experience this is to find a copy of Operation: Livecrime which might be tough but songs from this album shouldn't really be pieced out. Listen to the songs on this album in order and immerse yourself in the story. It is very well done in all aspects. Asia and BJ. As great as that music video is, their LIVE performance fronted by Lead Singer Geoff Tate (the original singer) is incredible, because the whole show performed as a rock opera is an emotional rollercoaster. The way he sings this song live you can actually feel the pain of the person (Nicky) that he is portraying. It makes your heart sink with him, because we've all been down that path of losing faith in love. The name of the lead singer's current band was taken from the name of the album this song is on. Operation Mindcrime. I think he's about 65 years old now, and saw him perform a few months ago. He still has great vocal range. Better some dudes in their 20s. Thanks for bringing your perspective. Geoff Tate. I see him this coming Tuesday at the King Center in Melbourne Florida. He's older now at not with Queensryche anymore. Can't wait. 😊

Geoff Tate is one of the greatest Rock vocalists ever. He actually used to give lessons to other professional vocalists. His range, control, & feel are INSANE. 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

Gotta listen to the entire album front to back to get the whole story. Basic premise of this song is that the main character (Nikki) fell in love with a woman (Sister Mary) who died under suspicious circumstances. The album is about power, corruption, love, addiction and is an absolute masterpiece. (The lead singer is Geoff Tate - who is actually a classically trained vocalist.)

The Lead singer is Geoff Tate. At that time his range was unreal...and his phrasing was unmatched ! He made you feel what he was feeling, he emoted probably better than any Metal singer ever !

This song is from a concept album they did called "Operation Mindcrime." From what I can remember all of the songs are about an organization that brainwashes a guy to do murders for them. He falls in love with a nun. They want him to kill the nun next, but he won't. So, they kill her and frame him for it. All of the videos from this album had the same actors in them. Geoff Tate, (the singer of Queensryche), was trying to get the story turned into a movie. The main character in the story doesn't believe in love because she was killed and they won't have a future together. I'm sure there are articles on the internet that explain it better than I can.

This from the album Operation MINDCRIME album. This story is near the end of the story line. Its a concept album like pink floyd's "The Wall" album...the entire album is a story. You shoud react to the entire album track for track. From wiki: "Its story follows Nikki, a drug addict who becomes disillusioned with the corrupt society of his time and reluctantly becomes involved with a revolutionary group as an assassin of political leaders." A prostitute turned nun is part of the story too and gets caught up in the roup of assasins. Its more defined than the pink floyd concept albums. Its an easy story to follow and the album is an absolute classic. It put Queensryche on the map and made them international sensations. A story where the girl sings with Geoff Tate is "Suite Sister Mary" from the album..its INCREDIBLE.

The whole premise of this album is that it's foretelling of our political climate as we speak and it is deadly accurate. This album was written in 1987 and the album was released in 88.
This record is 36 years old.

Geoff Tate was an amazing singer and an even nicer person. I was lucky to meet them at the release of their album Operation Mind Crime. They were going to make a movie if not for the record company and their contract. Me and my friend spent a good hour talking about family and where they grew up, things that don't always pertain to their gifted talents of many bands. That was my my life from my 20's on up to my 40's. You all picked one of their best songs, but it is a story and not a personal pain or struggle with any of the members, just a very well written musical like Pink Floyds the Wall album. I think when I met them it has been close or over 35 years ago as I am 59yrs old ✌Peace Asia and BJ, hope you like my short input.

It was the first time I heard someone sing about love not being worth it. was this song. Original. Everyone else was singing about how great it was. This was such a a real take on it.
Geoff Tate is one of the best to ever sing Rock. Hands down.
