    I love the fact that Nate never ever speak one word more than it needed. He goes for showing how actually things works without boring talk many do in youtube.
    Loved Nate for a long time. I don't think there are many like him with the absolute deep knowledge of both DAWs and Synths.
    I know he does not like FL STUDIO much :) but It would be nice to have a short tutorial on Harmor and Patcher.

    How nice it is to see an expert knob twiddler use Hive 2 to the max! Thanks for this great video.

    thanks man this video is AWESOME...i bought both Hives years ago, and never really used them (because of overkill of plugins and time)...until i found it last week and started using it again!! Its freaking amazing and different sounding than a lot of other synths (specialy with the right wavetables). So thanks!!!!

    When running a sequence or arp, combining alt and random set to unipolar with a bit of slew, assigning that to amp and filter envelope decay then controlling that assignment with a slow moving lfo is a fun recipe. If you set the intial amp/filter envelope quite short you can create all sort of funky syncopations.
    When creating a pad sound, assiging a quantised output from an lfo to filter cutoff is also pretty cool, as is then assigning an S&H lfo combined with keyscaling to cutoff or detune or wavetable position. It would probably be a good idea to slew wt position though.
    Yep, Hive can take you all kinds of places. it's a lot more than a Sylenth replacement. A hell of a lot more.

      Yeah i think it was touted as a sylenth1 killer due to the signal flow being similar... but the modulation on Uhe stuff is a whole other rabbit hole to go down. Love how they've managed to kinda capture the essence of a eurorack rig and weave it into a otherwise fairly simple synth.

      @@MarulaMusic One of my favourite synths. I've written hundreds of patches for it and contributed a bit to the factory presets and have a new preset pack coming out for it in few weeks, (just need to normalise levels, assign contollers and set categories then it's done). Like other Uhe stuff, I use it all the time. With Hive, you can anything from soundtracky type stuff, vintage funky and hip hop stuff all the way through to EDM, Drum and Bass and everything in between. It's pretty versatile, with very little in the way of cpu hit, even with quite complex patches. And you're quite right, in terms of the flexibility you have, there is a definite modular influence. In fact I was thinking the other day of integrating Hive into Cherry audio modular, where you can modulate vst params with as a sort of host and creating some huge Korg style combis. (Maybe the cpu would feel it then :) )

      @@adamsmith7058 big fan of voltage modular too... otherwise check out plugin guru's unify too if you're looking to set up combi patches.

      @@MarulaMusic Been sleeping on Unify. Need to check it out. Although, for me, the ability to create all sort of crazy layered Korg Karma like, sequences and arps, using probabilistic functions/logic gates etc is the main draw. Using the rack in Reason has been useful for this as well. It's as much about seeing how far you can go with a Eurorack ethos in the box and with little to no hardware. With all the tools I just mentioned and other thing like Soft Tube Modular, Max for Live and others, the answer seems to be pretty far :) Amazing time for music tech, that's for sure.

    Perfect tips...thats me so much help. I have problem with envelope, your trick is amazing. I was looking for a traditional envelope for amp and filtr, but here, special for short filtr env. or large difirent atack have Hive litle another solution. Modulation is in Hive realy amazing, and this solves more analog dynamic in sound. Without these modulations is Hive nothing. But with this all modulation have dynamic like pure hardware synth. Thx..realy super tips !

    The sequencer steps parameter is host automatable/MIDI mappable and jamming/drawing in modulation is a great way to create variations and fills, for example creating 3/16 or 5/16 repeats at the end of phrases etc.

    • @MarulaMusic
      @MarulaMusic  4 роки тому +2

      Yep, the sequencer parameters across all the u-he synths are automatable and pretty flexible. Check out the video I did on arp sequences with Diva.

    Alternate works really great on more groovy/syncopated sequences/riffs, even more so with polyrhythmic/odd loop lengths. I also like to modulate the matrix depth knob with a bipolar square wave with a 1/2/3/4 bar period to add further variation to the stereo movement. This works well equally well for regular and irregular sequence lengths and or a patterns.

    • @MarulaMusic
      @MarulaMusic  4 роки тому

      Thats a great idea... hadn't thought of modulating depth amounts in the matrix with other modulation. I've typically done this through a sidechain mod source like you have in Serum but hadn't tried it in Hive yet.

    • @BappinProductions
      @BappinProductions 4 роки тому

      @@MarulaMusic this is where really shines as you can combine "via" scaling and matrix depth modulation together. So the LFO that switches the polarity of the Alternate modulation can be scaled by Random, for example, so instead of static alternate panning, you get varying amounts and so on. Very cool and a great way to make patches more alive/organic.

    What do you think Hive 2 compared to Dune 3?

  • @yhoda145

    I just got sylenth1 so will see if I can use some of these tips as these synths are similar.

    • @MarulaMusic
      @MarulaMusic  3 роки тому

      Sylenth1 is great... it's architecture is similar but thats where it ends. Hive just levels up everything especially on the modulation front. Not to say Sylenth1 isn't worth it... I still turn to it from time to time as its super easy to programme.

  • @TheEliyacohen

    There is some question that bothering me for long time now.
    I mean there is a lot of synths out their most of them doing the same thing over and over, the best of them that most people recommend and using is Serum.. so why should I use different synth instead of mastering one good synth?

    • @MarulaMusic
      @MarulaMusic  4 роки тому +4

      Sure there are a lot that are similar... the beauty of the U-He stuff is the modulation. Serum is cool, but I find Hive way more fun to program. It has a modular vibe to it which I love. Its about being inspired too... I sometimes just don't feel like working with Serum. Changing things up changes the stuff you make IMHO... plus they're all subtly different sonically.
