    What are your favorite tips and tricks in Hive 2? 🤔

      I wish I knew. I just picked up Hive 2 on an NI Sale in December or so. It's an excellent synth, but I really need to spend more time in the nitty-gritty of it. Thanks for the tutorial!!

      Not a trick really but I love that modulation can be either bi- or unipolar. The latter comes in handy for pitch modulation when you want to keep your incoming note the lowest. Not only that, but for any use case when you want to set a limit to your modulated parameter. To bounce off the floor or off the ceiling so to say :)
      Soloing oscillators and filters is a great learning tool for reverse engineering factory patches (made by some of the great sound designers BTW).
      Another thing I like is modulating effects. This certainly can be done in other synths as well but for some reason I'm only doing it in Hive :) For example, Velocity > Distortion or Aftertouch > Distortion is a great way to make the patch more playable and expressive.
      PWM is a hidden parameter. At first I thought HIve couldn't do it but it is there - just drop the crosshair onto the pulse oscillator waveform.
      There is a Constant modulation source - it may seem useless but it actually is not :) it can be used for setting certain pulse width in my previous example or you can offset the modulation range with it. This is some modular / CV hacking territory I guess :)
      Almost forgot this one. Switching between Clean / Normal / Dirty modes can seem obvious but it's cool to do when you've already made a patch - it can sound very different in some cases so you almost get three patches instead of one :)
      And yes, it may seem boring but the manual as far as I remember has many tips and tricks, and is well written.

    Wow Chris, that's amazing. I've been using Hive2 for a few years now and it's one of my favorite plugins, but i have rarely touched the function generators. Thank you for these fantastic tips, they are true eye-openers. You rock! Thanks a lot!👍👌😊

    I like the fact that Hive 2 is not as well known as Serum or pigments! It's a secret weapon! I use Hive 2 as my go to work synth! And the shape generators and the built in maths style function generator give endless possibilities. I like that it has a pretty trip arp/sequencer also. But I think what really makes it the best is the sound quality! The filters are better than Serums and the overall precision of it is mind blowing. But it still has character even in clean mode. I basically use Serum to make wave tables and for the FX.

    Great. Right now Hive 2 has become my goto synth. Thanks for the tutorial and get more in depth about Hive 2. Hive 2 works really good with Bitwig since modulators affect per note modulation in Hive so with this you have so much power. The patch you created is so amazing and you were just playing. Amazing

    Bought Hive 2 recently. Love the sounds that it has and now seeing the capability of this thing is mind blowing!! Would you consider doing a tutorial on making a track start to finish using Hive 2? I think it would be beneficial, not only to myself but for others as well

    Hive 2 has so much to offer under the hood. It’s design is simply brilliant. Can be quick when needed but can also get quite complex once you get a hang of everything it has to offer. I’ve created sounds that I thought were seemingly impossible to create on a single window single layer 2 oscillator synth.

    I love that Hive 2 finally gets the attention it deserves! Somehow I found this synth in my very early days of learning synthesis (it was Hive 1 back then) and I instantly liked it because of the UI that seemed way simpler than Serum or Massive. But there was almost zero information on it which puzzled me greatly because Diva and Zebra had plenty. Maybe it was due to the u-he's marketing which presented this synth as 'easy' and 'light on CPU' which I guess was not as attractive as powerhouses which Diva and Zebra are, the former backed by its great analogue filter emulations and the latter by its numerous appearances in film music. I guess Urs and the team have changed their direction since (with Zebra 3 release being postponed for how many years now?) and have focused their efforts on more attainable goals, and have finally brought this synth into spotlight :)
    Side question: what is the purpose of that comb-like EQ in your Ableton chain?

    • @s1gns0fl1fe
      @s1gns0fl1fe  Рік тому

      Thanks for the positive comments! Love Hive 2. The EQ is from the "Utility" template for Ableton Live. I have a video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/DJqt7PT7O3M/v-deo.html
