  • U-he recently released a major new sound pack for HIVE 2.1 titled Metaphorium. The sounds were originally commissioned by Johnny Klimek for some upcoming "secret" film work - which turned out to be The Matrix Resurrections and featured sounds from Hive.
We take a look at the bank - available now at 39Euros:

I love Howard Scarr’s sound design. Even on the Access Virus it stood out. His patches for Zebra are great. Including the Dark Zebra which is a similar film/sound design mash up.

U-He Hive never sounded like this, not really a techno-trance synth anymore, they made it become way much more. Compliments!

it's never just been a techno trance synth. There's no such thing. with any normal synth you can create sounds for any music genre.

Great "cinematic" evocative patches. We have great choices of tools these days. A topic I'd like to see discussed and explored is auxiliary controllers to be used with a keyboard primarily. I'm talking about compact CC fader boxes and similar. I'll probably have to build my dream controller which is 4 mod type wheels and a pitch wheel, all assignable from the unit with presets. Cheers!

The Infinity Vox patch reminds me of some of Michael McNabb's computer synthesis works, e.g. on the Dreamsong CD (well worth a listen).

Probably the only good thing about Matrix Revolutions then :) As a Hive owner I'll be checking these out. U-He's support for Linux is a winner for me.

I think Howard did a soundbank for the quantum, i don't remember any of the quantum sounds that shipped with the unit when it was released, which is when i got one, being remotely interesting or in any way showed off what the synth was truly capable of.

Maybe because Waldorf decided to put my sounds in the middle of the list, starting at preset #700. Simply select an "Author".

Beautiful patches. Amazing sound design. It’s crazy how good software synths are now. Better than a lot of hardware synths. When is U-He going to have a sale? I would like to grab Hive.
Dune 3 and Pigments are also very good though.

    • @drjkyll539
      @drjkyll539 2 роки тому +2

HIVE is so cheap that I’d call it a perpetual sale. I’d rather have all u-He products for full price than being inundated by Waves offering their stuff for $29 in an email every fucking day, only to require paid “upgrades” regularly, which are really a back door subscription.
Honest and straightforward companies (like U-He) should be rewarded by aware customers.

@@drjkyll539 Pigments was on sale, and that is an amazing synth. I’m betting a lot of people bought it. Now they are plugged into the Arturia ecosystem. Even Dune 3 was on sale last fall. Seems like good business practice to me. I would buy Hive if it were on sale, and then likely I would consider buying preset packs.

@@aquaticborealis4877 u-he have been making software synths for nearly 20 years, growing from a single man operation to a team of 16 or so people. They have developed multiple critically acclaimed products, I think it’s fair to say they what know what they are doing both technically and commercially.
Arturia can offset discounts on their software against their hardware sales and Synapse Audio do have sales but they charge more for their upgrades. Dune 2 to 3 is $79, the upgrade from Hive 1 to 2 was only 20e.
It’s never a simple case of company X is doing Y, so why can’t company Z do the same.

@@BRIGGS2710 Each very powerful Wavetable Oscillator has its own sub-oscillator, filter and set of envelopes, LFOs etc. So as long as you keep them separate and layer them you can talk about two layers if you like and you can use them accordingly, like some of the sounds in the video do. But the fun thing - and why Urs is right, of course - is that all the elements are patchable to each other. That does not happen in a layer structure of a workstation-style synth.
Hive is an incredible easy and at the same time super deep synth. There's still much to explore and I always enjoy tweaking it.

release ten more new UFO videos
