What an adorable sweet baby. I wonder where he is now IRL. It took grandpappy nearly losing him to realise how much he loves him. Brilliant movie & seriously funny. He being the pigeon. Thank you for movie
I loved the scene at the maternity ward, where everyone is making googoo and gaga faces at the Baby, while Stanley is pacing, utterly miserable in the background. Doris and Herbert were hysterical!
Here's a nugget for those who missed it: As the grandparents-to-be are dropping possible names for the baby, Doris mentions Laurie or Laurence from Little Women. Both Joan Bennett and Elizabeth Taylor played Laurie's wife, Amy March in the original and remake.
Thanks Pizzafix. my daughter is going to deliver in a month. i can imagine that Iam more or less like Spencer Tracy. I could relate to and appreciate the movie so much. Thanks
32:40 The ideas about childbirth and infant rearing that the Elizabeth Taylor character talked about in this scene were treated in the film as comic relief. Yet, when I had my children in the 1990s, those views were respected and encouraged by the doctors and midwives who looked after me. I don't know what it's like today, but to this day, I am thankful that I received the benefit of their wisdom.
I thought the same thing; I was watching it with my 12 year old daughter and explained to her how things used to be and how that was the beginning of how things got to how they are now... a better understanding of bonding and how important that is
Elizabeth Taylor was going through a very rough time off screen then. She had just separated from her first husband and that's because he beat and kicked her, causing her to miscarry. Imagine her playing a pregnant woman and having to hold a baby afterwards, while mourning the one she lost in real life
"Kay's having a baby!" "Right now?" Cracks me up every time! At a time when men wore suits everyday and women put on hats and white gloves before leaving the house
On WHAT'S MY LINE? the game show from the '50s& 1960s when the show introduced the panel, Dorothy Kilgallen came in with gloves on.What a different, more respectful time!
I had on gloves, and somebody wanted to know why. That just blew my mind. Like in Camden NJ, the RCA dog is still on the building, at the top, for everyone to see. And someone ask me what is that dog doing up there. Just like pictures of George Washington use to be everywhere. And saying the Plege Aleadgence to the Flag in school. I use to talk to old people back on the 70s all the time, because they were kids not that long after the civil war. I never had kids because of over population, now look were we are at. It is vanity to have so many children.
I am watching this movie AGAIN today, watched it in French (no good) in English with subtitiles (not so good), now I know the story, just appreciate actors' real voices , perfect !
Enjoyable. Have to make yourself slow down and relax with the pace of the old movies. We do need to do that, you know, to rest our thoughts from what’s happening in our world today. Our brains need a little down time, to watch a movie of when times were simpler.
Love these movies. I wish the one before this was listed. And I love the Thin Man movies! PLEASE play them for us. Thank you for this movie! Five stars!
@@marjoriemargel1567 he is in person as well. He use to come to lunch at The Ivy Restaurant in Beverly Hills, that I managed. Sometimes, with the ever pleasant, Martin Short. Short was so sweet and Martin came across so cold.
Steve Martin, as I've read about, is an extremely private person. The fact he doesn't bounce around trying to entertain you in his private moments shouldn't matter. If he was a private citizen, you'd have thought nothing of it.
So hard to believe Russ Tamblyn, the youngest son in this movie, is the dad of Amber Tamblyn, an actress in her own right today. He also appeared in Westside Story. Love these great classics!!
I love this movie, daughter or daughter in law...when they are expecting, give them what they need and want...this won't last long! Tracy had to go through his (actress) wife's craziness (I'm sure) when she was pregnant and now his only babygirl! I expect my four grown sons to put their wives first and to be caring as this young husband.

I love all the black and white old classic movies
Hey Guys I'm tired of all the noise. I'm getting a glass of wine and watching this movie. who's in?🍷
🍕🍕🍕
I didn't know that Vincent Minelli directed this film ❤
@@VeeMac Cool!
Yes Elizabeth Taylor was a beauty but hands down to Joan Bennett...GORGEOUS
"I didn't realize you were in a position to buy (a house)."
"Well, yeah, we got a mortgage from the bank."
" A MORTGAGE??!!!"
LOL
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Imagine her playing a pregnant woman and having to hold a baby afterwards, while mourning the one she lost in real life
I love this movie especially when Tracy talks about the air conditioner unit and baby monitor the father of the bride movie is excellent
I remember my dad saying, "oh, my baby is having a baby!" He was so happy! Unfortunately he passed away when my son was only 2 1/2.
Wendi- my dad said to me: “Well, you finally got your live doll!” My dad’s gone now, too. 🌹❤️
My dad passed away when my son was 2 months old. It is so heartwrenching. so sorry.
I loved the ending Stanley Banks! I always loved the scene when he losses his grandson . A Classic...♥️
"Kay's having a baby!"
"Right now?"
Cracks me up every time!
At a time when men wore suits everyday and women put on hats and white gloves before leaving the house
On WHAT'S MY LINE? the game show from the '50s& 1960s when the show introduced the panel, Dorothy Kilgallen came in with gloves on.What a different, more respectful time!
I wish we still lived those times
I blame the spread of Capitalism. Why does everything have to be monetised?
I had on gloves, and somebody wanted to know why. That just blew my mind. Like in Camden NJ, the RCA dog is still on the building, at the top, for everyone to see. And someone ask me what is that dog doing up there. Just like pictures of George Washington use to be everywhere. And saying the Plege Aleadgence to the Flag in school. I use to talk to old people back on the 70s all the time, because they were kids not that long after the civil war. I never had kids because of over population, now look were we are at. It is vanity to have so many children.
Hahaha me too! Funniest line, delivered so well!
I am watching this movie AGAIN today, watched it in French (no good) in English with subtitiles (not so good), now I know the story, just appreciate actors' real voices , perfect !
What happened to all the innocence? Wonderfully warm.
I love those twoFather of the Bride and this one. I think, they are precious!
Five stars!
What a blessing, such a sweet, innocent, old movie 🥰, thank you.
So much better than the Steve Martin remakes.
Ever notice how Steve Martin is just a iceberg? I mean really, no warmth!
@@marjoriemargel1567 he is in person as well. He use to come to lunch at The Ivy Restaurant in Beverly Hills, that I managed. Sometimes, with the ever pleasant, Martin Short. Short was so sweet and Martin came across so cold.
@@eveyholmes I heard the same thing about Steve Martin- from Al Franken....
Aww but that was also fun to watch.
Steve Martin, as I've read about, is an extremely private person. The fact he doesn't bounce around trying to entertain you in his private moments shouldn't matter. If he was a private citizen, you'd have thought nothing of it.
Always loved Spenser Tracy. Movies today cannot compete with the stories written back then, even with the Hays Code 1934-1968.
So hard to believe Russ Tamblyn, the youngest son in this movie, is the dad of Amber Tamblyn, an actress in her own right today. He also appeared in Westside Story. Love these great classics!!
These old movies are great actors play part to prefection enjoy them
I love this movie, daughter or daughter in law...when they are expecting, give them what they need and want...this won't last long! Tracy had to go through his (actress) wife's craziness (I'm sure) when she was pregnant and now his only babygirl! I expect my four grown sons to put their wives first and to be caring as this young husband.
You 'll be a great mother in law.
I liked the way the Father says, Oh, if she took her toothbrush, I don't think she is headed for the river!! Beautiful movie. Liz is gorgeous! Thanks for the upload.
I love noir movies, simple but touching. Thank you.
Elizabeth Taylor is amazing ! Perfect movie! Thank You for sharing it again!
