    What a pleasant and easy movie to just sit back and enjoy a great script and marvelous acting. My favorite scene in this film is in the restaurant. Peck sits down to the first solid meal he's had in too many days. His pleasure is boundless and he promptly cleans the plate and orders more of the same. If you've ever been more than politely hungry, you can relate. Every bite is sublime and the satisfaction is intoxicating.

      @MELA : I know. Just thought about today when, unless he's not the "leading man", no American would be caught dead with anyone seeing the "tummy" he has which is one of the reasons I enjoy British dramas so much. In British detective shows, the people all look much more natural instead of having perfect bodies and perfect teeth, etc. And, much better scripts without depending on shoot-outs and beating people up. And, no, I'm not a big fan of Britain, but they do some things quite well.

    Today it's Nov. 8,2018, I was cruising on the UA-cam, found this movie. The story I have loved very much when I was middle high school boy of 13 or 14, In Tokyo Japan, Mark Twain's story translated into Japanese. I laughed, read again, and laugh again so many times. and somehow forgotten the book or the story. I did not know the story became the movie. After 70 years later, in the USA where I live now, found the movie which I did not know it's exist. It's a joy to go back to this Old humor story by Twain. I am having a happy day

    i saw this film in the UK when I was just 14 years of age and thought it was a great movie. Unfortunately gone are the days when they made movies like this, just straight , clean family movies and no torrid sex scenes. Gregory Peck was indeed a truly great actor and his movies were always great too. I can truly say, those were the good old days as far as movie making was concerned.

    Such a delightful movie. No gratuitous violence or sex, just a lot of wholesome fun and a comment on human nature. Lately I find myself drawn to these old movies because of the common sense and meaning they embody that's almost been lost in today's day and age. And Gregory Peck was a real gentleman - also in real life, which makes watching him all the more enjoyable.

My dad bought me the VCD of this film, so I can watch and practice my English with it. By then, I did not know who Peck is, and I have never read the book before, but, I enjoyed soo much while watching it, and I watched so many times just for fun. Eventually after scrolling through the comments, wondering does anybody understand the actual meaning and depth of the movie. Luckily we found one! Yes indeed, the society is completly hypnotised by this silly money game. As Rudolf Steiner (founder of Anthroposophy )called it 'deep economic sleep'. To make people move around you have to wave money at them. Good example: Earthquake in Turkey, forest burning, hungry people, etc... and what do they ask for...money first..or nobody will lift a finger. All the complaints of life is thanks to people themselves. This movie showed it very well.

      @chrisramm1 6 років тому +5

      @R.U.A KATTU? 100% correct its a form of exchange,, labour, goods exchanged, but in itself it is nothing more than an idea. The idea that a pound/rupee/rand/dollar is worth a loaf of bread or a kilo of rice. Look what happens when confidence in that idea fail, (Germany in the early 1930's/Zimbabwe until recently, Venezuela as of now. One works ones butt off to earn the amount needed and the VALUE of that money goes through the bottom. All too often its a violation of what you have said that causes the crash, money handed out to those who dont produce, (no production lots of money) or as in the US stock market crash False confidence in industry pushing prices up, everyone investing in stocks and shares, and then confidence crashing, and all of a sudden all that effort and work in the form of money just disappears. (the South Sea Bubble of England in 1720 was another example of this, with a twist in that it was a huge Ponzi scam, which bankrupted thousands). Money represents effort and achievement, but its value is only there because of an agreement that it has that value, and that is in the hands of Bankers and nations, who quite possibly dont sweat blood and tears in making it but simply go to the printing press, (or nowadays add a few noughts on the computer)

      It was a convenient idea backed by confidence, until the central banking scam took over control of our money.
      Privately owned central banks with the monopoly of creating money with interest already attached so that the debt can only ever rise and banks can take possession of real wealth (property, businesses etc.) in exchange for money they conjured into existence out of nothing.
