As a Michigander, I can say Carlin is 110% correct about the Midwest being a great place to catch up on sleep. I've spent time in the South as well, and he's pretty spot on about them having too much respect for authority and tradition. Actually, I'll modify that a little bit. Southerners have respect for authority when said authority is white and male, otherwise, they criticize and defy that authority to death. They can't stomach the idea of anyone other than a white male being in a position of power and authority.
You were correct until that third sentence, then your comment became a load of bullshit from that point forward. It is only a small percentage of people who are racists that only listen to white male authority. To stereotype Southerners as all being that way is extremely idiotic. Very few people actually have that mentality compared to all those who don't.
@@MadMax-ii8gq Looking at electoral outcomes, his point stands. Maybe it’s not everyone, but certainly a majority in the south only listen to white male authority. That’s a pretty incontestable fact.
Fellow Michigander here and aspiring comedian! Carlin is right but it’s also a good place to think! Especially when you’re a Carlin fan who shares his let’s say “ fascination “ for life 😂
I lived in NYC for almost 5 years in college & right away moved to Alabama (yeah, I know 😱). 500% accurate about the people here. It was a massive culture shock
The energy of NYC is one of the biggest reasons I love it so much. You can feel it even before you get there, when you’re in New Jersey, or even just a little ways upstate. I’ve heard so many people complain about the people, and certainly there are tons of them. But in my personal experience, the interactions I’ve had have been mostly positive. And you can’t escape miserable assholes, they’re everywhere.
I’m from the South (Louisiana) and yeah, he’s certainly correct about most (white) Southerners having too much respect for authority and tradition. I’ve spent my whole life in a small town here, and I while I don’t fully HATE it, I don’t love it either. There are just too many things about it which I find disagreeable. Nearly everyone is crazy about going to church and I’m just not into it. I do believe in God but some of their beliefs and attitudes are just insane. Also, I’m much more quiet and reserved than the average Southerner, and I think I’m a lot more honest. It’s not in my nature to be fake with people. Most of them would much rather be polite yet dishonest, whereas I’d much rather be honest and frank. If I could I would much rather live somewhere else. I don’t think I’d mind the Midwest, so long as it’s not some tiny town with nothing to do in the middle of the plains. The Western states definitely have some beautiful places and magnificent nature, but I don’t think I’d like living in Los Angeles very much, unless I was in the entertainment industry. New York sounds really interesting but coming from a small town environment I really don’t know how I’d adjust to such a massive city. A smaller city in the Mid-Atlantic and New England would probably suit me best.
New york can eat a dick thats why new Yorkers want to move to and stay in California, stay the fuck out of California you lameass new Yorkers aren't welcome
East coat- rough, tough and busy. Will def eat you alive. Midwest- quiet and friendly. Unless you live near Chicago, you’ll find Carlin was right about things to do. West coast - it’s prettier, but most just the East Coast’s little meek brother. They think they’re the class of the country, yet constantly let others walk over them Mountain region- do people come here for reasons other than hiking and skiing? South - 90% of conservative stereotypes wrapped up into one region. If they had their own Wall Street it’d be 100%
If you want to read the comments you got to indure wannabe gangbangers getting all defensive about LA's "grittiness" because they once had to drive through South Central on the way to Aunt Fannie's and they also have a friend who once took the metro and was harassed by a homeless guy. Having gangs and poverty shouldn't be a sense of pride; It's a burden and every city carries it. Grow. Up.
This guy definitely isn’t talking about the LA inner city. It doesn’t get much tougher and grittier than the LA inner city. He’s being too general about LA and is ignorant about it even though he lived there
@Bobby Flynn No he’s not. Every city has killings. He dismissed LA as not having a gritty nature like NY which is bs. He’s only talking about the LA people see on TV, not the real LA, particularly the inner city.
@@Gravitas37 LA is only gritty if you don't own a car and have to actually take public transportation to get around. There is always something crazy on the metro since a majority of riders are homeless or just crazy. I think LA's metro is just as dangerous as NYC's metro if not slightly more. He is right about LA being fragmented since DTLA isn't as iconic as a city center as Manhattan. I believe LA has so much incredible potential to rival NY in terms of world influence but it still lacks urbanization. LA has the best weather, the best weed, and imo the best natural beauty than any other city in the US (SF is a close second).
LA is very “suburban” compared to NY. It’s more spread out so it’s more “chill”. NY is dense and noisy, cars are honking, the subways run every minute, the people walk fast, etc. So yes, the average NYer is tougher and more resiliant than the average Angeleno because NY is a more stressful and fast paced city. LA is a more comfortable and chill place to live. This is true when you compare both the rich and poor areas of both cities. Again, I’m not attacking LA, I love LA. But NY is a much more dynamic and difficult place to live. You get stronger characters in NY.
and if you really want to break it down, New Jersey is even tougher than NY and has better food, go to any north jersey even south jersey pizza shop or deli, and the best breads in the world come from Jersey, North to South
3:44 best line ever 😂 😂
He's right about the west coast, the sunsets are too good to pass up.
I moved to Cali 2 years ago from NY and this is 100 % on point. Carlin is a G
In 2020 I'm exactly where you were last year. 2 years in and im confused as f$&k
Have some job offers and I'm thinking of going LA to NY. I'm anxious

"Benzene" That's the coolest username I ever saw. Even the Benzene ring looks cool, no wonder you like George Carlin Mr Chemist... Peace out.
In the land of the unassertive, the aggressive man is king.
CARLIN
imagine if that cop who gave him a jaywalking ticket heard this.
This perfectly describes new york and california today.
I'm a South Dakotan and the Midwest sucks. Working on getting out of the Midwest going out to the West Coast.

California's a small woman saying "FK ME!" New york's a large man saying "FK YOU!" Love that lol
i love NYC but i'm from Liverpool UK New York is a walk in the park to me i go there to chill out

@sneksnekitsasnek Fuck California
New york can eat a dick thats why new Yorkers want to move to and stay in California, stay the fuck out of California you lameass new Yorkers aren't welcome
@@jessedeniz1595 Damn….what happened to you in Ny? 😄
There is no comparison 2 different places
It’s Big apple’s and California oranges
Love Carlin, but he does not mention pretty much anybody from urban culture. Spot on about the traffic tho haha
He should’ve moved to San Francisco. No tickets for jay-walking there. 😅❤
Houston could just tell NYC to freeze in the dark!
Who gives a fuck about HOUSTON?!
I feel as though the comparison of california to a small woman is exaggerated.
NORTHERN California is the best!
East coat- rough, tough and busy. Will def eat you alive.

I wouldn't survive NY or LA.
This guy obviously never went to Compton, Watts, Oakland, etc
Those places are nothing compared to the LES, Brownsville, Harlem or south bronx. Especially in the 1990s.
I like Carlin but he's obviously never met a true LA native not these lameass transplants that come outta state and give my state a bad name
True LA natives are like white people from san fran, lol.
Lol George only knew north of Olympic. South Los Angeles ain't no valley girl bs.

He’s not wrong but there’s more innovation and invention in CA. NY is 10 years ahead of the rest of the US. CA is 20 yrs ahead of NY.
By that I might also add that both California and new York get the future dystopian hellish systems earlier than the rest of the world.
Because New York is just a bunch of financier parasites not innovators, entrepreneurs like the west coasters.
This guy definitely isn’t talking about the LA inner city. It doesn’t get much tougher and grittier than the LA inner city.

Haha. “Religion” in the south! They don’t know the meaning of the word.
NYC is full of wannabes. This "Critic" has no idea.
Nutty Warrior he was no critic, he was a comedian... he still is a comedian. a dead one, that is.
Β. Still doesn't mean he's rite about Cali. And yes, virtually everybody from NYC is a critic, I know he was a comedian.
Nutty Warrior what the fuck is Cali?
Β. Seriously? Well it's a state that houses cities more dangerous than any borough in NYC.
Nutty Warrior And you were bored to write "right" and "-fornia"? you surely are a bit laid back...
