***** I don't agree. I'm not against ethnic pride at all. I think it's important to self esteem. In fact, the reason whites seem to dominate everything is because non-whites don't have enough of it. They let their white preference show too much, so they never develop their own sense of self worth.(That's why non-whites draw themselves or portray them selves in movies as whiter-looking than they actually are).
You need some pride, or you'll end up a servant race/culture.

Hello. Just an FYI, you put the comments in the wrong order.
The "Someone's wasting their fucking time!" comment was what the "Could it be.... everyone?" comment was following up and was an answer to.
Implying that everyone (the folks on both sides of the opposing prayers) who is praying for that shit is wasting their time.

This is actually the entire mentality of why racism still exists. People love to preach for their own kind; whites, Irish what have you. Because of this it’s easy to see why they would prefer congregation among only their own kind. Thus it becomes commonplace within their kind to indirectly hate outsiders. Like, they may not even know they hate people in the “out group”, but let’s just say they’d secretly prefer their daughter date, let’s say for this example, a white Irish guy like them instead of a black guy. It’s human tribalism in its finest!

Yes and NO. I don't know anyone who does not love George Carlin....if they know about him. Once they've heard him, everyone goes, yeah, he's right. So that awareness is a good thing. I think he has done a great deal to spread this awareness...yes why are we with Trump and this big mess....The whole reason the Jon Stewart Show went on was in reaction to George Bush Jr. becoming president. Stewart, Colbert, et al thought there should be a strong alternative perspective. IT worked, and when Bush was out, the show had accomplished was it set out to do. I know a lot of my students got their NEWS from Jon Stewart rather than the papers. IMO, it was the truth, and it was so necessary when he, like Trump, royally screwed things up....but every day Stewart was there commenting day by day about what was going on. He filled a much needed void. Yes, like many others here, I wish Carlin could come back. Robin WIlliams was also a great social commentator.

“The cheapest sort of pride is national pride, for if a man is proud of his own nation, it argues that he has no qualities of his own of which he can be proud, otherwise he would not have recourse to those which he shares with so many millions of his fellowmen. The man who is endowed with important personal qualities will be only too ready to see clearly in what respects his own nation falls short, since their failings will be constantly before his eyes. But every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs, he is ready and glad to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.” - *Arthur Schopenhauer*

He cracks a few jokes and fun in between the life lessons, but its mostly educational.. and when you listen to it, think of how the topic reflects real life. How the things hes saying might be considered true. its old content, but you will never see anyone say such things in public today at two seperate dates. most people would disapear after the first time they told the public about such things.. Why? because its the truth, and the truth is inconvenient for the rich fucks who rule our world.

You did not read the Master's comments in context....."inconvenient for the rich folks who run the world." No problem there. Why all the hoo ha? Yes, what seems to be your boggle? George is not cynical...he is thinker, social commentary....he gives his thesis argument, and backs them up with examples, and he is very persuasive, because through a mix of comedy and intellectual skill, he makes you see through the false comforts, and what is disingenuous in our society. And it is brutal. And it is so important to be able to be a critical thinker like George. We teachers try to teach the students critical thinking in schools, but it is not well received by students and their parents alike who complain to colleges about the political views of their kid's professors. People can learn more from George than anything. Don't call people names. It is not civil.

You know how celebrities these days are bullied into apologizing for making a politically incorrect statement? I can just imagine them trying to do that with Carlin. As in say you're born of a certain ethnic heritage but you devote part of your life to extensive research on your ancestors history, customs and language and can speak well on the subject then that is something I would respect. That's a better way to honor your heritage and something to be proud of.

national pride and ethnic pride is bullshit. the moment you have a feeling of superiority over any ethnicity or nation is an instant sign of prejudice and it means you have pride towards your nationality or ethnicity. ask yourself why do you have pride towards it? where does this pride come from? and you'll realize its pride based upon nothing. like George said, pride should be reserved for something you've accomplished or obtained on your own through your hard work and effort.
i remember every morning i would raise my right arm up against my chest saying "i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under god , indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" staring at the red white and blue flag as it went up the pole. now i realized it was just a routine part of the brainwashing system we live in today. a system that will automatically shut of our brains not to doubt our country, never to question our government, America is always on your side. i guess patriotism is a form of prejudice to a certain extent. but then again just because you love your country doesn't mean you hate others. or do you? hmmmm

Ol’ George makes perfect sense on this. If you’re ‘proud’ of having accidentally being born in a certain place, you’re delusional. Are you then, by the same token, as willing to profess your shame for the bad aspects of your nation? Unless you actively contribute to that state of affairs, it makes no sense.
It’s not all clear cut, of course. Should Canadians, for instance, be proud of the Rockies? Say what? If so, then maybe they should nationally ashamed of the street drug problem in East Hastings Street, Vancouver. Really? Or should that shame perhaps be reserved for the local city council? Oh wait, doesn’t their revenue come from the taxpayers, who are the citizens? Not so clear who should be feeling pride or shame here.
Or how about this: should millennial Germans be proud of being born German? If so, should they bear its opposite: shame? And for what? Should they, for example, be ashamed of Auschwitz? Why? Did they contribute to that madness? Be horrified and appalled, yes. But to take on some kind of national culpability when you weren’t even born? Makes no sense - exactly the same thing with national pride.

With all due respect to Carlin...
Saying "Black Pride," "Latino Pride" or "Native Pride" isn't about assigning some undeserved value to yourself for something you didn't do, it's about standing up to a system that's all too happy to beat you down for that same accident of birth he's describing.
Saying you have pride in the color of your skin is announcing that in spite of all that, you're still here and still fighting in your own way. When your accomplishments are that liable to be undermined at every turn, I'd say that's definitely something to be proud of.

Your confusion, Rishi, is that nobody is suggesting that white lives don't matter, or straight, or male. Those all go without saying. BLM is not here to demean the importance of white people, they are here to increase the importance of black people. In other words, if people weren't actively fighting for black lives, then chances are that they would go on not mattering in the eyes of the government and institutions. Same goes for gay rights and feminism. It's not irrational or subjective. Straight white men are absolutely prioritised in America. That's not their fault, and they shouldn't feel guilty about it, but they should be aware of it and understand the importance of what BLM etc does. George Carlin would absolutely support these movements - he was always critical of government, after all.
