GT-R overland build? 😮
dude. only 50k miles on that '16? that might be as impressive as the build. nice1 mike!
I have both, 2020 TRD PRO in manual and a 2015 1794 Tundra. Both are wonderful. If I had to only have one, it would be the Tundra. Big, powerful, solid, comfortable and safe. Gas mileage is only 3 mpg difference. Zero problems with either.
Good video, have 3 Toyota trucks, Tacoma 97, Tundra 00, LandCruiser 99, no issues all are over 200k except for the Tacoma which has 302K on it. All solid
In the market, going back and forth. I think I'm down to Tundra and keeping my 2000 xj as my trail rig, then tow it with the Tundra. I drive 90% on roads so the smoother ride, more power, comfort, and towing capacity lead me to the Tundra. Thanks for the extensive video!
Very glad you went ahead and got you a Tundra.
Looking forward to that updated ghb video. Just switched mine over to the new Vertx Ready Pack. Interested to see what you've got going on these days.
Went to the dealership and tested both. The Tundra feels like an SUV. Very smooth and powerful. The Tacoma is nothing fancy, drives a bit rough, less power. However, I bought the Tacoma because of reliability and because it felt like a real truck to me.
A real truck doesn’t make me feel like a toddler when I sit in it and have my head rubbing on the overhead liner
@@kylehowe6761 I didn't mean to bash on the Tundra. It's a beautiful truck but just wasn't for me. Like I said, the Tacoma just feels different. Kind of how old trucks used to feel but better.
u shoulda waited for the 2024 successor
@@kylehowe6761what's a real truck for you that makes you feel like an adult?
You loose power with larger diameter tires unless you regear the diff
Always Tundra, Love that truck so much.
Specially the Military Green color, and those big tyres. ❤️
The T100 hands down
I have the 23 tundra SR5 TRD Premium with crewmax and 6.5ft bed. Honestly you were spot on it doesn't feel like a big truck but I can fit 5 adults comfortably, the 4 full doors is nice. All around an amazing truck
How do you like the 6.5 bs the 5.5 bed? Trying to decide, worried that the crew max and 6.5 may be too long.
@Cuong Nguyen honestly I love it. The truck doesn't feel long at least to me. The extra cab space for the kids and dog has been awesome. And the bed is big enough to fit anything I need. And honestly for a heavy truck it's still stupid fast
@@trazkiru8546 appreciate the feedback. Biggest car I had was a 4Runner and that was over a decade ago. Been driving a Prius for the commute but now with kids and constantly having to play Tetris with all of their stuff, I’m ready to go big but man, that’s going to be a huge adjustment from a Prius to Tundra lol
@Cuong Nguyen not a problem. The only thing that's a bit weird is this Gen tundra has a wider turning radius than the last Gen. I plan on doing an overland build for mine even though it's a bit longer
Tundra isn’t 6 seater?
You should have the Tacoma tuned with the KD max aftermarket tune. Made a huge difference on mine.
Great and informative video! Helps with a tough decision…
I would like to see a light duty truck line up comparison. Taco, Colorado, etc. All trucks have there ups and downs it all comes to preference and the person. Love bith your trucks.
In an apocalypse, which vehicle would you have if you could only have one? Built as they are right now. Tundra semi built or tacoma fully built?
Which one is going to be better for towing? I really want to get a taco, but will that be able to pull two atvs, and a side by side? Or one atv and a side by side? Or would I be better off just getting a tundra? Granite I will not have tons of free time to go riding, but when I am able to I want to go ride. Who knows I may not end up getting a sized by side, because it would be cheaper just to get 2-3 atvs instead.
Between 2006-2007 LC or LX 470 and Tacoma vs tundra, which is “best” for bug out/overlanding/weekend rig
If suv plan to use get rid of 3rd row seats for drawer system, fridge and storage instead.
Would love to have extra fuel in Jerry cans as well.
If trucks then any recs on specific yrs that would be ideal?
What wrap did you have on your Tacoma? Also been watching your channel for a long time love the content
Great video. I had this same question about seven years ago. Do I get the Taco or the Tundra. I really wanted the Tacoma but I was able to get a Tundra for the same price and with more features. So I went the Tundra route and have never looked back. The Tundra was such a good truck that when it came time to get rid of it I got a newer model of the same Tundra. I am glad to see that the positives outweigh the negatives in your experience as well. Thanks for another great review.
Really, never looked back. Why do you say that?
@@MB-gd6be it's a basic needs and abilities assessment. The Tundra can do everything that I need it to do. From towing, to hauling , to camping, commuting and it does it all very comfortably. One of my passengers described it as riding in a Lincoln Town Car. Even my kids like playing in it. In my experience it does everything surprisingly well. Not great fuel economy but we can't have it all.
nice choice is the 2024 Tacoma good?
Any issue with rubbing/creaking/popping sound in the upper portion of the driver and/or passenger seat of the Tundra?

Bought a 2019 Tacoma 2 months ago, put 6k miles on it already, sitting at 47k. First mid size truck after 3 F150s, (02, 05, 13) 1st Gen Tundra, 2nd Gen Tundra, F250, F350.
Really like how easy it is to drive, just wish it had a little more power. Got it KD MAX tuned, but looking forward to the 4th gen taco, I’ll probably pick one up and enjoy the turbo.
How was it after the tune? Worth it?
Thanks for sharing LLOD👏👏👏
Mike , if and when it comes time to pull the wrap off of the Tacoma.... Will you run it without a wrap and rock the original quicksand color again ? ... I love the color and think It would be very nostalgic to see the truck in it's OG color .
Would you rather a 2nd gen 15’ yrs off-road package or a 2019 sr with 4x4 similar mileage
Bought the Tundra Crewmax - need that space!
What is the averag mpg on both vehicles as set up?
I've had 4 Toyotas as well, and I have had no issues with the exception of the starter in my 98 Tacoma, but I bought the part I think from autozone and had my Grandpa help me install it. The only issues I had with that truck was my young, dumbass crashing it. BUT, even though I have technically totaled it twice, engine wise, mechanically, that truck is indestructible. I sold it to my cousin and he had no issues with it. I love your trucks. I currently have a 2020 Tundra, and once I get back to the states after my tour here in Japan, I am debating between a new Tundra or Tacoma as a daily,, and a 4Runner/Sequoia as a family/wifey vehicle. I also want an overlander, so I am debating whether or not to use my current Tundra as a overlander, or the new Tundra.
Enjoy the comparison with real world experience and not trying to sell the brand. Would like to see the other Tundra package comparisons.
Is there a military or veteran discount on ur website? Need a new holster for my sig
Owner of a 2021 Tacoma trd off rd 4x4 DC with the automatic trans , I absolutely love it , 42k miles on it and lots of off road miles maybe approaching 12k miles just for off road , I do have 1.5 inch lift in the front coil overs with fox by pass shocks on all 4 corners and a 1inch lift in the rear went with the 2021 trd pro wheels and wrapped them with 32inch tall Toyo AT3’s , rides great , it goes on difficult trails with ease and I’m getting 24mpg on the highway empty and 15mpg when towing my car behind it @ 5700#’s can’t see myself owning a diff truck as I have had many different trucks in the past 27years and by far this Tacoma is my favorite of all time ……
24 mpg on 32s?! What do you go like 55mph or something lol?
I keep it around 68-70mph on the hwy to achieve 24mpg, if I do 75mph Best I can get is around 20mpg and for towing I keep
It at 60-65mph , I’m usually not in any hurry , I try to keep the right speed to get those MPG’s as I do drive a lot so I try to get the best numbers as I can , at the same time I don’t baby it , I pretty much drive normal .
@Peter Homa that's pretty incredible! When you say it's a DC to you mean the full 4-door version or the swing-out doors with jump seats in the back??
Ya so DC is the double cab full four doors
Also a note worth mentioning here is the other reason why I’m getting that gas mileage is because I switched from 87octane to 91 after a few short fill ups I definitely noticed the mpg went up and the truck livened up and also the Trd pro wheels, and the Toyo tires are extremely light combo that helps with the sprung and unsprung weight
what lift do you have on the tacoma to run 35s? and what’s the offset?
I drive a 2nd gen frontier with a 2 inch lift on 31 inch tires. Love my truck but I must say those Toyotas are just awesome trucks.
Hey Mike, do you still have the 80?
You gonna get the new 4th gen Taco when it comes out?
What offset are your Toyo MTs on the Tacoma?
Yes compare the 2nd Gen Crew Max to yours and also if you can find a 3rd Gen Crew Max
Hi! I really want to see a comparison of Тundra pickup cabins
Love this episode.
@LastLineOfDefense, hey Mike, did you work in a bike shop when you lived in Hawaii?
Hi I been a Ford Guy but going towards Toyota but I still being a Ford Guy but Toyota is high on my list, not much of a off road guy but more like a light off road like gravel roads or mountain roads, whats the Taco transmission come from with Toyota Tacoma
Ditch light recommendations vid ?
The 2008-2021 tundra double cab rear seat room is great. Can easily fit adults. Too bad they downsized.
What’s the mpg difference?
The tacoma build looks great! I can imagine the mpg took a big hit
I bet 13 if
Did you regear the diff.
My taco is getting 13mpg city with slightly larger tires than stock and a canopy. Hwy 16mpg
Nice overview
Snuck in the “live in the mountains” line hahahahahaha love it!
Nice video Mike. Was wondering if you know of any resources for firearm laws in Colorado. Specifically related to someone moving from Florida to Colorado with firearms..
I appreciate the time you take to make these videos and respond to some of the comments.
Thanks!
So when's the video about that sneaky GTR? 😁
I had a 13 Tacoma and the 2nd gen was the best with the 4 litre v6. For towing, the Tacoma worked hard towing our RV so I got a 20 Tundra. The 5.7 V8 is much better towing and towing our RV makes it twice as fuel.efficient. We have had 4 Toyotas and all have been dead reliable. The only repairs on my Tacoma was replace rear springs and one hub/bearing. Tundra has had 2 minor warranty issues.
The new tundras are turbo v6's
@@jacob_1866 Exactly why I have the V8
If you could only have one for the next 5 years what would you go with?
I love and hate the Taco. Love the reliability and capabilities, but damn that seating position! Feels like I'm sitting down lown in a Carolla.
Love the trucks but Let’s see the gtr video soon.
Tough choices. I prefer SUVs, so I bought a Land Cruiser 200 some years ago. Because of KDSS, you can’t put as big a tire on it, but because of shorter wheelbase and overhangs, you don’t need as tall a tire, so I make do with 33’s. Not to mention big tires are damn heavy to attempt to manhandle.
I’d like to see a comparison between the GTR and Tundra 👏🏻😂
I hope they put something with more power in the next generation Tacoma that’s one of the biggest cons. I love my 4Runner but man is it just a slug…I’m not trying to race it I just don’t want to have to put my foot through the floor to get going quickly
So I want to have a daily driver , that can handle trails and off-roading and overlanding but we have two kids two dogs and I’m not sure which to get 😂
FJ40 4dr Flat Bed !!!
Dana 60s High pinion Front/Rear, Easton/Detroit...
Such a bummer tundra doesn’t do a proper crew cab with a long bed.. making me look to the f250 lineup
I had a 2018 Tacoma… Sold it in 2020 and got back in a fullsize.
Because Power or space?
Still waiting for my Tacoma to come in !
Well I have both, just in the 1st gen flavors 😂
❤ love both.
Saaaaame
Great information, thanks for this video! I have been a new Tundra hater, but you are slowly pulling me into them. Then I think 🤔 good God it would be an expensive truck! Have you hit the $100k mark or was that months ago 😂
What the MPGs on both? Great video
Probably around 15 average for both
I was disappointed with my Toyota my 16 tacoma torque converter went out at 80k :(
Thanks 🙏 for the video
Beautiful collection of trucks
God bless
Wow thats unusual...
1st here? no way. Love the video!
I got a family of 6.. This makes my choice easier, I have to go with the tundra lol
2016 with 55 miles! oof wish i had some low milage LOL
Can you do a Supra Overland build of you have the chance
Go watch Talon Sei’s Supra build. Though I doubt he will Overlander it as he has a Sprinter Van and Tacoma TRD Off Road
I'm dealing with this debate right now. Tundra TRD Pro vs Tacoma TRD Pro vs GMC Sierra AT4
2/3 rear seat delete for your dog!! The way it should be!!!
Love ya bro,
You can also get the tundra in an 8 foot bed
OG overlander don't wash him no truck. Don't clean him no inside. He OG.
I have a hilux
I have a tacoma
Did he say he only has 50k miles on the Tacoma ?
I’m surprised you don’t have a 4Runner
The tundra if you want power, acceleration, room, towing
Regarding the rear cab space, do you notice if the tundra has more head room and fits you better? I would have to say my tacoma doublecab is very uncomfortable because the floor is very high and that makes my knees come up closer to my body. This is extremely uncomfortable. Even though the tundra might seem like there is less legroom, i feel like the bigger taller cabin allows passengers to sit more naturally and more comfortable.
Why are you riding in the back of your own car?!
@@Cous1nJack so my wife can take a break from watching our son
A deer just totaled My 2003 Sequoia that had 409K miles
You mean you just killed a deer with your truck
@shawn actually the deer ran off
lets talk about the gtr.
Dude what truck would you take when the zombie apocalypse happens?
When GTR. When.
The tundra because it has a fully boxed frame
Lol 55k miles the Tacoma is still new. Reliability doesn't come into play until 100-200k+
I think you can get the Tundra Crewmax with the long bed in 3rd Gen. I’m not positive as I’m not looking at Tundras living in Honolulu.
Still no heated steering wheel in Tacoma.
1st gen Tundra
Tacomas come in
ACLB Access Cab Long Bed (Talon’s truck)
DCSB Double Cab Short Bed (Mike’s truck)
DCLB Double Cab Long Bed
I’ll keep my 2015 V8 tundra thanks .
You're welcome
@@LastLineOfDefense lol
Tundra all day. The Tacoma is just too gutless, that’s the whole reason I traded it in.
Tundra: Wide Hip'd Girl
Tacoma is miserably uncomfortable to drive. I just bought a 2023 and I’m already looking at trading it in for the Tundra.
4runner
Dang 55k miles on a 2016 that's crazy low I have a 2020 and it's got 44k lol
I’m damn near that too. I daily drive my taco sooo rackin up miles lol
@RobSquadReaction1 you hit me up
Lol so you Tacoma is quicksand and it is not quicksand?? Under wrap?
Just say “ bigger” … more bigger ?? 😂
I would buy a Land Cruiser.
What is colour name of Tacoma?
Optimus Yeet
Bumble Yeet
Both are cool but I would probably choose the tacoma
Too small
@@AggiePhil I would say that’s average
Had a 2011 Tundra for a couple a of years after coming from a Ram1500. Just couldn't fall in love with it. Didn't have the towing or just raw power you get from the Hemi, that and to me just dosent look good compared to others. Ended up trading it and went back to a 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel. The power of the Hemi stock just cant be beat IMO. Also the dodge has a ton more performance options due to huge 5.7 community.
