Jamoe (the black dude) is one of the two drummers in the band, along with Butch Trucks. The lead singer is Gregg Allman, who is standing front left in th picture (blonde hair and brown shirt). They are legends of Southern rock and blues.
straight up BLUES MASTERS.
Jamoe was a jazz drummer while Butch was the freight train driven the beat!
Don't forget Dickey❣️✨️🍄
Been hearing these lyrics before you were born. No,That's Gregg...white dude with the most soulful voice ever
I’m 66 grew up on this music, Next. Blue Sky. Rambling Man, Melissa, Midnight Rider, Jessica, and many more.
I miss the days when the air was filled with incredible, unique music by real musicians.
Yes...grandma thinks today's music sucks since I lived for this music. Couldn't get enough of it.
If you want to see them live, I recommend this same song recorded at the Fillmore East, 9/23/1970.
IMHO they are the greatest blues rock band of all time. Gregg Allman has the perfect blues voice. And his brother Duane is the greatest slide guitar player ever. I recommend One Way Out (Eat a Peach album) and Stormy Monday (Filmore East live album) by them next. They are both live songs.
Jaimoe,They were all soul Brothers. No Band could compare. They did their own magic❣️❣️❣️❣️✨️🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄
I’m a 72 year old hippie and I just subscribed to your channel. As long as you play the greatest music ever made I’ll be right here for it! 💜👵🏼✌🏼
Lead singer /song composer & on the organ is Greg Allman, guy with the long blonde hair
Welcome to real music. Live music that sounds as good as the recordings.
You need to check out the Doobie Brothers-try Long Train Running and Black Water. I think you would REALLY like them. So many great musicians and singers.
There's more men and women of color in later 60's/70 classic rock. Awesome musician and singers. More than you think ❤. Mixed groups of people making the Rock music in the world 🌎.
Jaimoe and Dickie Betts (the two in the back) are the only ones still alive..They fired Dickie way back in the 90's..I first saw them live way back in '72, (my 2nd concert) I was 14, and when the clock struck 12 I turned 15, and they were still jammin'..I went to hundreds of concerts since, and it still remains my favorite to this very day..They were unreal!
Jaimoe said "I was with the band when it wasn't no band." He was the first one that Duane sought out. And that descending line at the peak of Gregg's "tied to the whipping post" is really Dickey Betts. Duane said he was the better guitarist. You can hear Duane most likely in your left doing some support licks alongside Dickey. Yeah, youngblood, that's a 19-year-old Gregg crying out.
You need to watch them do this live. It will blow your mind
Amen,our music was the best
Gregg (singer) wrote this when he was 20. When the band Traveled some areas, having long hair and a black member was Not easy. They were all in their early 20s and masters of their craft. They listened to and studied the Masters of blues, rock, R & B, soul, jazz and gave credit. There is a video that goes with their live Fillmore East album and it's cool to see who plays what and all. Gregg is vocal/B-3 Hammond organ, Duane is lead/slide guitar, Dicky is lead guitar/vocals, Berry is the bass player and the TWO drummers are Jaimoe (black dude) and Butch. You can hear how tight their sound was and how they riffed off each other, especially on the longer versions. Legendary band, created the Southern rock sound. You did a good job young man, ty !
Jaimoe Johanson, the one black guy, is one of the drummers. Him and Dickey Betts (one of the guitarists) are the only living band members left.
Sadly, Dickie died 4/18/24.
My personal favorite and well worth a listen is Ain't My Cross To Bear. Promise you won't be disappointed.
If you want to be impressed by another hidden gem, a sleeper from the era, try "Farewell Song" on the album "Live at Winterland '68" by Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin.
Great to see you young people discovering this amazing band
.
The black guy is the sole survivor of the original band members.
God Bless him
A couple of great AB songs Statesboro Blues, Not My Cross to bear , Jessica, Soulshine just to name a few
Pain is pain, mister, it is a universal language and all men understand it.
Not soy-boys, not pretend thugs, not boys in men's clothes. Men. Sweat, calluses, hard work, and sacrifice.
Then she cheats on you.
Pain.
Big star to you for uncovering this gem of soul and showing it to others.
🤩🤩🤩
classic
If you like the black dude, have you ever watched the music video of the song Cult of Personality? I loved that band back in the day
Or,sea level
🎉 Since you’re into the 70’s, eventually, you’ll have to go down “The Who” rabbit hole!!! Might as well start out with the 1978 video of “Baba O’Reilly,” it’ll blow your socks off ❗️
Shouldn't it be a shout out to the absence of racism in the band ? Saw em several times in Atlanta in the 70s. The gentleman of color was 1 of 2 drummers. His name was Jaimoe (AKA John Lee Johnson ).
How did you make the word lyrics one syllable?
SERIOUSLY .... you point out the one black guy? Typical....
My, how things have changed.
Back then, a lot of bands had members that were Black. Not a big deal, at all, to anyone.
How, why, does our birthday suit matter so much now?
Because the media tells us that it should matter!
Get their Fillmore East Album & just press play ✌️
Greg Allman the lead singer wrote this song about something that really happened to him this is called Southern rock and they was one of the greatest bands ever
Allman Brothers Band album, At Fillmore East, is one of the best live albums of all time.
I love your reaction to this video
I grew up on this music so it’s nice to watch a new reaction from a young person
They are good live. I say them in Michigan in the 70s.
'One Way Out' live at the Filmore East 1971 is probably their most famous live performance and one of the all time great live performances period.
Any male who has a special woman knows the pain in Greg Allman's voice.
My niece saw their last concert at the BEACON theater AND I'M STILL JEALOUS! 😢 BUT I HAD TO EXPLAIN TO HER THAT SHE SAW GREATNESS!!!
You need to realize that black and white musicians had frequently played together and it was NEVER about race; it was ALWAYS about talent and respect.
Nah that rhythm is crazy🔥
Soulshine and Jessica..
You are welcome...trust me.
That is the greatest hits version. You want live at the filmore east 1971.
Try 'Live at Fillmore East'.
Why the Black dude? Just enjoy the Band's music and leave it at that. Geez!
This is a 30’s blues song.
Listen to and watch the video of this song from Fillmore East.
