All were very successful, but I believe the Allman Brothers started the trend in 1967 There names were Jaimo Johnson and Butch Trucks. They do like a full 5 minute double drum solo on side two of that album called 'The Mountain Jam'...its killer.
I'm 72 and I was there on both days at the Fillmore East in NYC for this live recording...One of the greatest performances ever on any stage...Consummate musicians... Our jaws dropped...
Mama Allman gave birth to one of the greatest blues guitarists in Duane, and one of the greatest blues voices in Greg. The band is largely considered the greatest live performing band ever, I am biased, and I totally agree.

They would pick the songs as they went to jam on. They could play 'Statesboro Blues' for 5 minutes to lead off in the morning, then lead off the night session with a 15 minute jam session. During the concerts at Fillmore East 1971, they played this song for almost 23 minutes. They would finish that with a show stopping finish then launch into a 33 minute jam around the Donovan song , 'First There Is A Mountain'. They may play for an hour and a half to two hours one night then the next night play for 4 hours. They would play the same songs but in a totally different way. They were the best ever. Butch Trucks and Jamie played drums together for the better part of 50 years. Two minds, one drummer. Check out 'In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' from the album "At Fillmore East". It's a peak moment for this early version of the band.
The lead band member was Duane Allman, guitarist with purple shirt and long blonde hair. He taught everyone of that time period how to play the slide. His brother, singer, organ, keyboards, is his younger brother Gregg. Gregg wrote this song when he was 18 or 19 years old. Unfortunately, about a year or two after this album was released - Duane Allmann, guitarist, and leader of band (blonde hair/purple shirt) was killed in a motorcycle accident. The band would continue on for many years. They would play many songs that weren’t jams - ballads, a variety. Probably one of the best live bands ever. Gregg Almann, has a beautiful song, Melissa, a ballad. You should take a listen. However, I don’t believe he ever recovered from his older brother’s death. They were all the Almann Brothers - not just the two biological brothers.
It’s a damn shame more younger generations won’t ever experience this music, unless they are exposed to this art. I can’t tell you how excited I get when I see people discovering this music for the first time! This band has produced so many masterpieces, it’s almost impossible to conceive. Duane Allman is lead guitar, Dickie Betts is other lead guitar, and little brother Gregg is lead vocal and only 19 to 21 yrs old. Such a seasoned voice for a young man. They have got soul.
I had the pleasure of seeing these guys 4 times, three times before Duane died. I was at the Fillmore East for this concert. These guys, along with Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, Earth Wind and Fire, and The Mahavishnu Orchestra, where some of the most exciting live acts I'd ever seen.
@@waltersobchak4079 I saw The Allman Brothers three times at The old Fillmore East here in NYC, and once here in NY after Duane died, somewhere with The Grateful Dead. Think it was Watkins Glen. It's been a long time man and memory fades. I do remember that I walked out after their performance (with only Dickie Betts on guitar) because I wasn't a Grateful Dead fan (I'd seen them here in NYC at the old Felt Forum previous), and I really didn't want to see their obligatory jam with the Dead after their set. The first time was at a show that was never broadcast, but was produced by WNET here in NYC. Other bands on the bill were The Byrds and Van Morrison.
@@waltersobchak4079 Thanks. But really I take little credit. If you were born during my era you would have done the same. The truth is during that time we were left with little choice. There was no Spotify, or Pandora. There was no Qobuz or Tidal or even UA-cam. There was of course TV and radio, but none of the classic bands we loved and you now enjoy were on mass media's radar. The only choice we had if we wanted to hear these bands was to buy their records and go see them. So yes, being a Jimi Hendrix lover I saw him four times. In fact, every major classic rock act you can think of my friends and I saw at least once, often more than once. It was the nature of the times.
"Why they sittin' down"?.....back then that's what we did, have a seat, enjoy the show, no cell phones, just pure unadulterated music, from the heart, musicians plying their craft.
He Allman Brothers always had 2 drummers!! The singer is Greg Allman and the lead guitarist is his brother Duane who got killed in a motorcycle accident probably not long after this concert. The band took a breather and then continued on. They are southern rock and blues!! AWESOME band that I grew up listening to❤
Yes - two drummers. They are playing different things. Jaimoe and Butch make it look easy, right? Two lead guitars. Both concepts unheard of at the time. Both the result of the vision of Duane Allman. The length is nothing compared to one of the Mountain Jams. The time spent on any of those is well-worth it, but pee before you sit down to listen. :) Thank you for your recognition of Berry Oakley, the bass player. He never got the recognition he deserved. Berry really died when Duane did. He just walked around for a year longer. The vocalist is Gregg Allman, Duane Allman's little brother. Duane is the blond lead guitarist. It's wonderful to see people who weren't around when the Allman Brothers came out giving them their props. Thank you for doing your part to turn new generations onto music that will enrich their lives. Just don't drive a car at the end of this song. You look down and you're doing 120 and you don't realize it. I speak from experience.
(On the keyboard) Greg Allman's voice, at age 22, was iconic southern rock. It embodied soul, pain, and resignation. a sound well beyond his years. His brother Duane (on lead guitar) echoed those emotions in his solos. (Not unlike how Queen guitarist Brian May echoed Freddie Mercury's voice). Audiences loved the long jams they did. The energy was driven by the 2 drummers. I was 18 when I first heard them, and was a huge fan. I still like the studio version of Whipping Post.
Yeah, that was straight down-home blues. They were clearly listening to a lot of black blues legends of the time! Great, great song and one of my favorites from back in the day!
Butch Trucks and Jaimo Johanson, one was playing the 2-4 the other the 3, they were so comfortable with each other they swapped, easily. Jaimo was the touring drummer for Otis Redding. Duane Allman, Dickey Betts both lead guitar. Duane and Jaimo met when they were doing session work in Muscle Shoals at Fame Recording Studio in 1968-69. Greg Allman is singer, his brother Duane is on the lead guitar(bottle neck slide) Dicky Betts other lead, Barry Oakley on-bass! They did twenty minute jams live! Nobody did it better! Synchronized! I had the pleasure of seeing this band in different variations, they all worked even after losing Duane and Barry, a year apart… they made music for 45 years… I was lucky to personally know most of these guys except Duane and Barry.
Gregg Allman is the lead singer and keyboardist. His brother Duane is playing the slide guitar. Dickie Betts is also on lead guitar. And the two drummers are Butch Trucks and Jaimo. The bass player is Berry Oakley. Trucks was called the Diesel because he kept the time. Jaimo had been a jazz drummer and he was the first guy Duane recruited for the band. The catalog for these guys goes back 50+ years and I highly recommend you go down that rabbit hole. You'll love it.
Duane (Skydog) Allman is one of the most celebrated slide guitarists ever. He did sessions work with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, etc. One of the absolute best EVER!
Gary Rossington played slide guitar on Freebird as a Tribute to Duane Allman. Both bands were from Jacksonville, FL as were Marshall Tucker Band and 38 Special. All 4 iconic bands from one city.
@@billwalker7556Hi Bill. Marshall Tucker Band was from Spartanburg SC. Well known around here cause we are only about 100 miles from their hometown. I remember 1st time they came thru here with the Allman Bro in the early 70s. Gregg introduced them as local Carolina boys & asked us to give them a big Carolina welcome.Just had to set u straight on that. No hard feelings intended.
Funny you mentioned "jamband" - that's a subgenre of rock that the Allman Bros and Grateful Dead were the originals, and later groups like Phish and Widespread Panic. They all are (or were) mainly touring bands that do lots of live shows featuring improvisation and jamming. Yes, chemical recreation is known to happen at these shows.
You are in a rabbit hole my friends! Once you you hear the ABB, ya gotta hear it all! And their live stuff is simply amazing. And at 11 minutes, this is one of the shorter live versions! I've seen them do this song for over 30mins!
You cut it way before the end. You got the magic of the Allman Brothers though with what you heard! "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" from that same show is fire!
I love Gregg Allman, and, of course, The Allman Brothers. I saw Gregg Allman 6 times over time,3 times solo and 3 times with the band. Never disappointed. Not only does he sing with his heart and soul, and not hard,at all, hard to look at. I love you guys too,you reacted to two of my all time favorites, this band and Pink Floyd. They play different types of music but its great music. Keep up your reactions, you all awesome.
Let me tell you guys that their concerts were all jamming ,the whole 3 hours worth, saw them a few times back in their hay days ,so happy you're doing The Allman Brothers please do more, you won't be disappointed🤟🤩
Oh guys, The Allman Bros is a rabbit hole worth exploring. The original line up with Dwayne and Dickie. Talk about some fierce guitar licks. Enjoy them ❤
This is one of the finest, most creative groups ever assembled. Period. You are correct.Butch drove the bus and Jaimoe filled the gaps....Duane Allman on Slide/Lead, Dickie Betts Lead and Rhythm, Berry Oakley on Bass and Greg Allman Vocals and Hammond Organ...You didn't let them finish.WTF!!
The Guitarist and Keyboard Player are the actual Allman Brothers....Duane and Greg..... Their "Live at the Fillmore" album is arguably the best Live album ever recorded.
Allman Brothers are a combination of rock, jazz, blues, and a hint of country. Just a lethal assortment of musicians. For their later stuff check out a tune called Rocking Horse 🐎! 🔥
After watching this reaction video, I was thinking, how do I not know this group. After listening to quite a few of their songs I found Midnight Rider, a familiar Allman Brothers song. This group has the blues on lock and I ran across some amazing instrumentals. Thanks for sharing!
I grew up in this time and watched these guys practice at a neighbor of my best friends house for the county fair in Alabama where they were staying for the weekend. There music took me on a path of lynyrd skynyrd, SRV, BBKING, zztop, Janis Joplin and the Doogie Brothers just to name a few . I absolutely believe the southern United States has the most diverse music with southern rocknroll . GREG ALLMAN IS THE LEAD SINGER.
The Grateful Dead also has two drummers. They call the rhythm section" the rhythm devils." The dead called it drumming fundamentals. When my daughter was still in a stroller, we went to Disney World. In one section of the park was a bunch of drums. When we walked in, the kids were all hitting and banging the drums in perfect harmony. Until I messed it up. I like this version. I like your show. I have subscribed. Keep up the good work.
The lead guitarist other than Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, passed just recently (RIP to one of the greats!) And I believe that leaves Jaimoe, one of the two drummers, as the only surviving original member of the band. Stay healthy and strong, Jaimoe!
I just love hearing my old tunes with you two. Thank You so much! You totally rock! Plus, you teach me. My favourites! Early concerts were sedate..no mosh pits. Can't tell you when that ended...probably when arena rock happened. The Allman Brothers were a trip. Don't get me started on how much I miss drum solos...they were mandatory back then!
First off, no one ever gives enough credit to the bass & drums! Thank you. ❤ Love this song and this reaction, unfortunately the sound quality on that video isn’t great. Hope you guys explore some others in your free time.
You didn't finish it 'till the end. Yep, two drummers and two lead guitarists. Gregg Allman on keyboards and vocals. (Blond) lead guitarist, Duane Allman (one of the greatest guitarists of all time) sadly died in a motorcycle accident shortly after this performance. Berry Oakley, on bass, died one year later also in a motorcycle accident. There are only two original band members still alive.
Gregg Allman (RIP) lead vocalist, keyboardist (Hammond B3), and some guitar had one of the best-ever voices in blues/rock. Unmistakable, instantly recognizable - dripping with soul. Thanks for really checking them out. I'm dropping a request for MELISSA. Studio version would be fine. Thanks - Oh, PS - One Way Out live at the Filmore East will blow you away -
My dad always had a knack for knowing what a bands best song is despite not being the biggest hit. He told everyone that the b-side of Freebird was Tuesday's gone and he thought it best. Also Janis with Ball and chain.
You're right about the unusual time signature showing up in the instrumental interlude at the end of each verse, but it's not 5/4, it's 11/8, grouped in 3-3-3-2. It's also what Berry plays on the bass intro by himself. I know this song like the back of my hand, having played and sung it for years with Frank Zappa. I also met the Allmans in 1971 when they were playing the Steel Pier in Atlantic city. One of my favorite bands ever.
People sat down through many concerts back in the day. Audiences gave respect to major bands because it's a show...not a party. Everybody wants to witness these incredible performances. There were also concerts where people stood up from their seats. However the attention was always on the talent/ performance...not audience participation. Trust me.... the audience here is ecstatic! They are taking in every second of this performance and greatful at that. Great reaction, guys!
Their cover of Elmore James' "One Way Out" is epic. Hear it on the Eat A Peach album, the whole of which is worthy of reaction videos. Ya know, I bet you guys would love the Allman's drummer, Butch Trucks, nephew Derek Trucks. With Susan Tedeschi. The Tedeschi Trucks Band. Derek, by age 12 or so, took up where Duane left off before his fatal encounter with a peach truck, and there are few slide guitarists better. Susan's singing will give you goose bumps and tears. Try "Midnight in Harlem" on for a taste. Or "Pity the Fool" as she blows the roof off the Orpheum. Addendum: They use two drummers, too.
My dad made sure that this band and this album was the first group I listened to. When I was 6 or 7 I met Gregg Allman at a gas station down the road from our house. He happened to be walkin in while we were walking out. I just turned 25 and I think I can safely say I’ve listened to the Brothers everyday since. They have truly had a profound impact on my life.
Their first two albums are as good as it gets. And yes their concerts were very long and legendary they saw no point tearing everything down just to set up again.
The Allman Brothers were an absolutely fantastic and they have a ton of great songs in various styles. They were considered a "Southern rock" band, but they had a lot of blues, R&B, soul and jazz influences. The singer/keyboardist is Gregg Allman, who IMO had one of the greatest blues-rock voices in his prime. The guitarist immediately to the right of the keyboards is Gregg's brother, Duane Allman, who was one of the best slide players in the history of rock/blues (he also did session guitar work for King Curtis, Aretha Franklin, Herbie Mann, Wilson Pickett, and Boz Scaggs and he was a part of Derek and the Dominos). Unfortunately, he died at 24 y/o in a motorcycle accident. The bassist is Berry Oakley, who also died in a motorcycle accident at 24 y/o about a year after Duane and almost at the same location. The second guitarist is Dickey Betts, who was also a great player and songwriter, and the two killer drummers are Butch Trucks and Jaimoe. If you want to hear an incredible current slide guitarist, you should check out Derek Trucks (Butch Trucks nephew). He currently plays in a band with his wife, Susan Tedeschi (fantastic blues singer), called The Tedeschi-Trucks Band.
BTW, the beginning of the song with the cool bass riff and building guitar and keyboard parts is in 11/8 time, along with the similar sections between the choruses and verses, and then it goes into straight 4/4 time for the verses and chorus.
@@guystephens2881 Lynyrd Skynyrd was formed as My Backyard in 1964. The Allman Brothers did not form until 1969 so Lynyrd Skynyrd had been playing southern rock 5 years before the Allman Brothers who were more of a southern blues band not a southern rock band. Both bands were formed in Jacksonville, Fl.
Great reaction .. Yes the Brothers were known for the percussion... The concerts I went always had 2 on the bongos also .. You always left being blown away in more ways than one... LoL 😆
Another Band you should seriously check out is "Little Feat" they are from this time, have 2 drummers, congo player, horn section, multiple guitarists, piano/ keyboard. The greatest band America ever produced..Bass player said it best saying " playing bass in front of Butch & Jaimo was like trying to out run a freight train...Very powerful statement..🍑
Greg Allman is the singer. Duane Allman is the legendary lead guitarist, sadly he passed away much to young. Greg carried on without him and did phenomenal things. Greg was married to Cher and they remained affectionate even after their divorce. Jam band for sure! As to dual drummers, Think of a university drumline and rock out with it!
I feel so lucky to been young at this time to experience GREAT MUSIC 🎶 We listening to music on vinyl recording on ass kicking stereos. Went to the clubs on the weekend. Sweet memories but a little sad. Keep rocking 😎
There is a great rehearsal video of them doing Statesboro Blues. The nucleolus of the band were vocalist Greg Allman and first lead guitarist Duane Allman. Duane, unfortunately, was killed in a motorcycle accident. Second guitarist Dickie Betts stepped in and up. Duane would have been one of rock's all time greats. He was an experimenter.
Saw them when i was 15 in Madison Square garden. They closed the show jamming to whipping post for nearly an hour. The garden tried shutting them down by turning out the lights, didnt stop them. Best concert band ever.
Greg Allman. Best "White" Blues singer of all time...easy. Rare example of a band that was far better live than in studio. Let em loose live...wholly God man...pppfff... cheers 🍄🌲🍄✨💥🌈
This is from Fillmore East. The had to deliver the whole show on two double albums. JJ a jazz based drummer and Butch kick ass rock. Check out some later stuff by AAB with Derek Trucks and Warren Hayes. They have three drummers.
My girlfriend and I saw Greg Allman [ with his own band ] sometime in the 90's. In a relatively small auditorium. His voice was mind-blowing. Accurate and powerful. The Allman Brothers were an amazing band. I don't want to say they are underrated because those in the know KNOW The Allman Brothers. Supremely talented. Tons of great songs. Their album "Eat A Peach" is iconic. A double album full of good songs. "Blue Sky" is one of them, and it is magical. One of the best guitar solos ever recorded. And it is a double guitar solo. Check it out.
I'm new ro the party, but I am really enjoying you guy's. This is a deep dive into 1970s Rock and Bluesy stuff. ❤️✌️ Definitely check out more of them. I love Melissa. The song.😆
You will never be able to appreciate this band unless you first allow yourself to listen to their music all the way through a song. It’s all one work from beginning to end, you don’t stop this frame to frame and catch their magic. They are are a drum band - that mastered the use of crescendo in creating their music. That is to say that their drummers laid down the pace for their music allowing it to build for their lead instruments, taking their listeners on a musical journey through their instrumentals in a way that is quite unique from anything else you will find. So, allow yourself to take the trip, and you will discover what a treasure they truly were.
Greg Allman, vocals and keyboard, sang without monitors, his older brother, Duane, plays lead and slide guitar. Barry Oakley on bass, the other lead guitar is Dickie Betts. The two drummers are Butch Trucks (Derek Trucks uncle) and "Jaimo" Jameson.
The chorus is written in 11/8 time, but the verses are written in 12/8. When asked by American Songwriter magazine how he came to compose such songs with progressions that are definitely nothing resembling blues or typical rock and roll, Allman replied that he's not entirely sure. "Man, I just stumbled onto 'em," he said. "I really didn't know exactly what I was doing, I just did it. My brother had to tell me that 'Whipping Post' was in 11/4 time; I had no idea." >>
You said it best guys. “ That IS an amazing band!” Used to see them live in New Orleans in their early days, and they would play for hours. Absolutely nothing like them. Greg’s voice, is the cherry on top. Regards 🤘😎

First heard of them in December of 1971 when I was 18 years old. Playing Whipping Post on the Live at the Fillmore East album. 52 years later I’m now 70 years old and this song sounds as good as it did when I first heard it. It aged very well. As we are still listening to masterpieces from Chopin, Mozart, Bach and Beethoven, in the future they will be listening to Whipping Post as a 20th Century masterpiece. Music is timeless and long live the Allman Brothers Band.

The Allman Brothers were the best live band ever. I saw them many times in concert. My first time seeing them, Atlanta 1971, we got tickets on the street, $5.00 a piece. Seats were second row center, seats 1 and 2. My life changed that night.
What is particularly mind blowing is that this is 52 years old. You cant find music like this anymore

@@helgar791 epic, thanks for the detail. I wish I could've seen the originals in their prime, glad to have caught the final iteration though.
@@helgar791 yeah, heard similar from my grandma. Epic nevertheless.
AWESOME band that I grew up listening to❤
Greg Allman was married to Cher
Duane is singing. Greg is on guitar.
@@JamesJones-cx5pk That is backwards. Duane on guitar, Greg on keyboard/vocals.
@@JamesJones-cx5pk, man, don't come here and try to school people who know more than you.
Thank you for your recognition of Berry Oakley, the bass player.
Congratulations! You just witnessed the greatest live band of all time.
I still like the studio version of Whipping Post.
mostly blues music more so than southern rock
The definitive live version of this song is from the the LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST album from 1969, one of the greatest live albums of all time.
If you're just starting to get to know the Allman brothers, keep going, you're in for a treat. Super star band back in the day.
I heard Butch called The Train because he drove it hard and was always on time.
Butchie 'Freight Train' Trucks!
@@GWard-hz5wj I was mistaken
These are the Godfathers of Southern Rock!!!
It wasn't over.
Let me tell you guys that their concerts were all jamming ,the whole 3 hours worth, saw them a few times back in their hay days ,so happy you're doing The Allman Brothers please do more, you won't be disappointed🤟🤩
Grew up with the Allmans. Saw them in NYC. Great, great stuff!
I saw them in Santa Barbara. Robert Cray opened. I dropped LSD and walked away like Allman Brothers, yeah, 🍄
@@pango-y8j The good old days. Saw them in NYC early seventies. Many drugs were ingested! 🤣
Oh guys, The Allman Bros is a rabbit hole worth exploring. The original line up with Dwayne and Dickie. Talk about some fierce guitar licks. Enjoy them ❤
Duane
This is one of the finest, most creative groups ever assembled. Period. You are correct.Butch drove the bus and Jaimoe filled the gaps....Duane Allman on Slide/Lead, Dickie Betts Lead and Rhythm, Berry Oakley on Bass and Greg Allman Vocals and Hammond Organ...You didn't let them finish.WTF!!
We didn’t know there was more. That was early in our reacting days. We don’t cut it off early anymore
The Guitarist and Keyboard Player are the actual Allman Brothers....Duane and Greg..... Their "Live at the Fillmore" album is arguably the best Live album ever recorded.
Soooooo true!!!!!!
Allman Brothers are a combination of rock, jazz, blues, and a hint of country. Just a lethal assortment of musicians.
For their later stuff check out a tune called Rocking Horse 🐎! 🔥
They have more than a hint. Some or their songs are country. Blue Sky, Rambling Man, and Jessica some.
@@willieboy3011 more southern rock than anything.
I read once they described themselves as a blues, rock, jazz fusion jam band.
After watching this reaction video, I was thinking, how do I not know this group. After listening to quite a few of their songs I found Midnight Rider, a familiar Allman Brothers song. This group has the blues on lock and I ran across some amazing instrumentals. Thanks for sharing!
You didn't let the song end.
Thanks for watching. We appreciate it. We might have to check out Grateful Dead pretty soon.
Ditto on the rhythm devils. Love 'em.
Yes, two drummers, and two lead guitarists!
I'm 63, and black, I saw the allman Brothers in 1974 at Texas stadium.
Welcome to the best band ever.
Best Southern rock band ever 😎
Country, Rock, blues, and a taste of jazz. A few bands simply unique. The Allman Brothers, Traffic, Jethro Tull are 3 of them.
Unmistakable, instantly recognizable -
dripping with soul.
Thanks for really checking them out.
I'm dropping a request for MELISSA.
Studio version would be fine.
Thanks -
Oh, PS - One Way Out live at the Filmore East will blow you away -
Yeah, Allman Brothers band is the quintessential, southern rock band, and my favorite band of all time. 😊
The studio version is sooo good
My dad always had a knack for knowing what a bands best song is despite not being the biggest hit. He told everyone that the b-side of Freebird was Tuesday's gone and he thought it best. Also Janis with Ball and chain.
In 1971 they knew black and white together works. Welcome guys to Allman Brothers Fanatics.
You’re right on the 5/4 - it’s similar to Brubeck’s Take Five. As always you two are among the most interesting reactors! Keep it up!
Derek is a slide guitar genius!
Gregg Allman the singer was a legend
. RIP good luck fellas. His brother Dwayne RIP was the lead guitarist
Gregg Allman - the younger brother, lead singer, keyboard player - wrote the classic blues tune when he was 19 years old
Their first two albums are as good as it gets. And yes their concerts were very long and legendary they saw no point tearing everything down just to set up again.
Might as well stay a while.
Yes! One of THE BEST.
BTW, the beginning of the song with the cool bass riff and building guitar and keyboard parts is in 11/8 time, along with the similar sections between the choruses and verses, and then it goes into straight 4/4 time for the verses and chorus.
more a southern blues band
Before abb there was no southern rock . Jimmy Johnson of muscle shoals claims that Duane's vamp on the end of Wilson Picketts hey jude started it all.
They have a live record called "Waiting for Columbus" Have to check out them doing "Spanish Moon" "All that you dream" "Mercenary Territory" "Dixie Chicken" "Don't Bogart that joint" I think you will be blown away!! 💯🔥💯
YES!!
Yep, Lowell George would be a great one. Ry Cooder “Prodigal Son” would be another great one.
Started listening to them at 4 and i'm 52. Singer Gregg Allman and Keyboards, his brother the blonde playing guitar, another guitarist Dickey Betts as well. same two drummers throughout their 50yr+ musicianship. They stopped playing a few yrs , their guitarist for over 20 yrs, Warren Haynes still plays started a band called Gov't Mule. The drummers nephew Slide player Derrick Trucks played with allman Brothers Started his own thing Tedeschi Trucks Band !3 members, Two killer drummers, brass, check em out.
the lead singer is gregg allman
Loved your reaction guys!! So glad you're turned on to the legendary Allman Brothers!
The greatest band America ever produced..Bass player said it best saying " playing bass in front of Butch & Jaimo was like trying to out run a freight train...Very powerful statement..🍑
Damn that gave me chills to imagine the first rehearsal w this line up.
Amen.
I had the honor of seeing the band when Dwayne was still alive! GREGORY ALLMAN on vocals was to die for😊😊😊
Greg Allman is the singer.
Greg Allman organ and vocals and Duane Allman on guitar are brothers
BTW...as GREAT as this is...the studio original version BLOWS THIS AWAY!
I feel so lucky to been young at this time to experience GREAT MUSIC 🎶
We listening to music on vinyl recording on ass kicking stereos.
Not "would have been," he "was!"
Where can we find this video, please?
Saw them when i was 15 in Madison Square garden. They closed the show jamming to whipping post for nearly an hour. The garden tried shutting them down by turning out the lights, didnt stop them. Best concert band ever.
Greg Allman. Best "White" Blues singer of all time...easy. Rare example of a band that was far better live than in studio.
Let em loose live...wholly God man...pppfff...
cheers 🍄🌲🍄✨💥🌈
Love you guys. Hell, I'm 64 years old and love discovering new music every day. Keep up the good work.
Big jazz influences in this band. All amazing musicians
Mostly a blues band.
There are many bands who use two drummers, the grateful dead, Tedeschi Trucks to name a couple.
Stormy Monday or In Memory of Elizabeth Reid off of the same Fillmore East album kills it too. Happy exploring guys!
You boys are in for a ride. One of the best tracks ever put in tape. Strap in !!
This is from Fillmore East. The had to deliver the whole show on two double albums. JJ a jazz based drummer and Butch kick ass rock. Check out some later stuff by AAB with Derek Trucks and Warren Hayes. They have three drummers.
You guys are my favorites because you're open to everything and you give your opinions based on the music, not just your preconcieved ideas.
Music brings enlightened souls together.
Definitely check out more of them. I love Melissa. The song.😆
This is one of my all time fave songs and album. To me it sounds like a Blues Jazz fusion. It's brilliant.
"We aren't a Jam Band . We're a band That Jams ." ~ Gregg Allman
Regards 🤘😎
I was in high school in Woodstock Georgia when this music came out and I have been a fan ever since. I love your commentaries they're so fresh and pure thank you
11/8 time signature on the intro parts and 12/8 on the rest.
The audience is sitting down cuz there stoned out their minds..but dancing their ass off on inside! 😂
Congratulations! You just witnessed the greatest band on earth perform live.
I saw ABB at Watkins Glenn in’73, with 600,000+ other fans.
Saw Greg at my high school on’73. Saw the ABB through the years.
Duane…and Greg are gone now. RIP both, and Thank You for the music you gave to my life! 😎👍👍
In my humble opinion, this has got to be one of the best live performances of anyone on youtube. Thanks much! ✌🏻💀
The lead singer is Greg Allman the lead guitarist is his brother Duane Allman they was aSouthern rock band from Florida a few more songs of theirs is :
Soulshine, Midnight Rider

Greg Allman and Dwayne Allman & Dickey Betts on guitars...RI P Brothers Allman.
Se had the bezt music ever! I'm 72 and still listen every day
The Allman Brothers were the best live band ever. I saw them many times in concert. My first time seeing them, Atlanta 1971, we got tickets on the street, $5.00 a piece. Seats were second row center, seats 1 and 2. My life changed that night.
This is one of the great bands. You can dig deep into their music and never ever be disappointed.
I remember being introduced to the Allman Brothers Band when I was in business school. The live album is fantastic!
