Here’s something crazy..!!! Most people at a local bar checking out a live band .. will scream Freebird by Lynnard Skynard.. I will alway counter by saying Whipping Post.. one night a band said he’ll yes and played Whipping Post.. it was epic
Saw Allman Brothers in Costa Mesa, Little Feat opened. Drunk guy started yelling WHIPPING POST when Little Feat came on and did not stop yelling 'til hours later when ABB closed with, yep, Whipping Post. He was a very happy drunk guy as we all sang along.
No. Sadly there won't. The only lead vocalist from the millennial / gen-z generation that might come close (at times, usually in live performance) is David Hosking of that Australian group Boy & Bear. And that is probably stretching it a bit.
Great reaction- “I need a smoke and whiskey for this one!”, and please- do your future Allman Brothers reactions from Live at Filmore East!- the best live album in history.
I haven;t listened to the studio version of this in years, I guess. It feels stripped down compared to all the live versions of it. Good reaction, man. Subbed :-)
Glad you liked the song. Two thumbs up is the highest rating unless you are a space alien with more than two hands. This song was recorded over 50 years ago, and it still sound fresh and new to me. Many versions of it are available, mostly live shows, if you are interested in hearing how they had refined and expanded the jam over the next two years. And it's been covered by more people than you can shake a stick at. Duane and Gregg Allman were born in Nashville in the late 1940's. Their father was murdered when they were about two and three years old. They spent a lot of their childhood in Florida, and their mother worked two and three jobs to support her little family. I expect they spent a lot of time alone growing up, and found their comfort and motivation in music. Their main influences were black blues, soul and jazz cats. They loved BB King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and a lot of other artists like that. A lot of their sound was derived from their hard childhood and being exposed to black music. Older brother Duane founded one of the first integrated bands in the South. I've recently seen a lot of black youtubers doing reaction videos to their early music, and they are almost universally loved. I think it is fantastic that their music, which grew out of black blues, soul and jazz, is being rediscovered and admired by black people today, half a century after they made their best music. Duane and Gregg Allman, and most of their original band mates, have passed on, but I think they would feel great satisfaction, gratitude and pride that many black people enjoy their music now in 2021.
It would be more appropriate sippin' from a mason jar, when you listen to the Allman Brothers. (there is a reason a song recorded 50 years ago still makes people go DAMN!)
Greetings from Canada, I'm a huge Allman Brothers fan, your reaction was perfect. Southern/Blues Rock from the early seventies is an amazing genre to explore. Best wishes in your exploration.
One of my all time favorite reactions. When you have to stop the song for a smoke and some whiskey, you know you are feeling it. The Allman Brothers were top tier. You will really like Black Hearted Woman by them. Enjoy my brother.
Greg wrote this song in the middle of the night he could not find a pen so he got a box of matches and used them after he burnt them to write this song about what happen between him and his girlfriend.
I am a 70 year old white guy. Not that it matters. I live 17 miles from where they lived in Macon, Ga. When WHIPPING POST hit the stores [they would only play this music on the underground "Hippie Stations" then", us Southern guys & girls went nuts. We still meet up at the lake and what goes into the CD players everywhere? You guesses it. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR STATION EL SENOR BOSHIDO...! Tell me....how do I send you a donation?
You had 2 drummers and 2 guitarists, a bass player and Gregg Allman on keyboards/piano and singing. That deep raspy singing voice. He's had that since he was a teenager. He was singing WHIPPING POST this same way when he was 19 or 20 years old. When Allman Brothers Band Live at the Fillmore East 1971 was recorded, he was 23 years old. Also WHIPPING POST on Live at the Fillmore East 1971... is 23 minutes long.
I see you had a Saints hat on in your intro. If you're from New Orleans, you should know the Allman Bros was considered the house band at the old Warehouse which was on Tchoupitoulas St [the venue back in the day now gone since the mid 70's] because they played there so much. If not, you just got a good history lesson.😎
ABB ~ 🎼🐐 Saw them twice in the early-mid 90's and each time they jammed for almost 4 hours. When you saw the ABB you damned sure got your money's worth! The first time they cut this song (1969) Gregg was 21-22 years old and already sounded like a seasoned bluesman. Daaaaaayum!
I LOVE your reactions!! You are a true reactor!!! Don't ever stop!!! We need people like you on UA-cam!!! Please react to Metallica " The Four Horsemen "!! The live version from Seattle 1989!! Wanna see your reaction! I think you'll LOVE it!!! ✌peace!
Never watch a lyric video. You should have watched Whipping Post, Live at the Fillmore East to hear the best version of this song. The Allman Brothers were the best Southern Rock band ever, meaning their music is a combination of rock/blues/jazz.
Welcome to old school Rock & Roll. Try watching them play this - LIVE - also check out - It's not my cross to bear - LIVE. - Also - may I suggest - Since I've been loving you by Led Zeppelin. - Enjoy
Alvin Lee of Ten Year After is another great blues guitarist. So many good songs, but I don't see many reactions to his wonderful music. May I suggest the Bluest Blues and especially Ten Years After - I Can't Keep From Crying - 8/4/1975 - Winterland (Official)
Ok, ok, ok….let me collect my thoughts on this one! First off, I love your channel. Second, ANYTHING by the Allman Brothers is straight fire. Check out “One Way Out” live at Filmore East. Third, Morgan Wallen is a force to be reckoned with and doesn’t have a bad song. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Go Astros! ✌🏻💙🧡⚾️
Bo... you have got to hear the “At Fillmore East” live version. That album is considered one of the best live blues albums ever recorded and they effing smoke from the 1st note to the last. So good (double album) they had to carry over a few songs to the next album, Eat A Peach. 🍑
You need to react to their Fillmore East Album...just start with track one & sit back and enjoy It’s preserved in the library of Congress....one of the greatest live albums ever
Hey Cuz, I just subscribed to you. My 2nd time only I have seen you. You do a good job at what you do. Please play Fresh Air by Quick Silver Messanger Service. Trust me! You will like it.
Any man who lights a cigar and pours a whisky while listening to the Allman Bros. is a good man in my books. Cheers.
It is hard to believe that Greg Allman was 21 years old when this was recorded. What a voice.
No Autotune or computers. REAL music
Had about the same experience when I was 21
LMFAO. Perfect reaction, "I need a drink for this one"
One of the greatest songs ever !!
You’d like their “One Way Out”’ live at the Fillmore.
LOL that song is the other guy in the 'cheater' story!!
Now you see why they're my favorite band of all time. 😊💜💚💛✌️
My fav too sista!
Here’s something crazy..!!! Most people at a local bar checking out a live band .. will scream Freebird by Lynnard Skynard.. I will alway counter by saying Whipping Post.. one night a band said he’ll yes and played Whipping Post.. it was epic
Freebird, tribute to Duane Allman?
@@bikernation5298 it says so on the inside liner notes to Lynyrd Skynyrd's first album before the lyrics to Freebird it says: For D.A.
Excellent choice!
One Way Out is a good one.
Yezzzzzzir!!!
My favorite by them!
GOT to do 'NOT MY CROSS TO BEAR'. Take you to church cousin...
💗 💖 💘 💝 💟 ☮️
Can't do it without Don't Want You No More which is the first song that merges into it. They have those 2 together as one here on YT.
That voice belonged the incomparable late Greg Allman. He was really young then, somewhere in his early 20’s. There will never be another Greg.
No. Sadly there won't. The only lead vocalist from the millennial / gen-z generation that might come close (at times, usually in live performance) is David Hosking of that Australian group Boy & Bear. And that is probably stretching it a bit.
2 drummers, lead guitar, slide, rhythm, bass and Greg on keabird/organ.
I've been listening to them since 1969
Live at Fillmore East is considered one of the best live albums ever recorded..
Live at the Fillmore East is the best live album....still sounds as good as the first time I heard it in 1971
No truer words ever spoken Mr Narro!!!
Great reaction- “I need a smoke and whiskey for this one!”, and please- do your future Allman Brothers reactions from Live at Filmore East!- the best live album in history.
Yes! Live
I haven;t listened to the studio version of this in years, I guess. It feels stripped down compared to all the live versions of it. Good reaction, man. Subbed :-)
Not My Cross to Bear is another must listen to...
Rocked up soulful BLUES ! Take me ta church !
Great fun reaction and blues-rock at it's finest!
Good ole Southern rock.Seen them practice in Somerville,Alabama at some old everyday house,1970
Lucky
Allman Brother's, Little Richard and Otis Redding all hail from Macon Ga. Great music from middle Georgia.
Another great reaction for this middle Georgia band!
Hard to believe it was 50+ years ago when this was recorded. Still smokes just about anybody!
Learning is good. Enjoy the ride and God bless!
One of three of the best Southern Rock Bands of all time! IMO the best!
Awesome Job! I Love the Allman's!!!! Seen Gregg Allman, and every variation of Allmans, a total of 52 times!
Thank you for doing this! Cheers to you
You need to listen to the Allman brothers live at the Fillmore east
Greg Allman vocals and keys. Once married to Cher. His brother. Duane was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was a great guitarist.
Glad you liked the song. Two thumbs up is the highest rating unless you are a space alien with more than two hands.

This stuff right here can end racism. The perfect blending of white and black American sounds!!!
It would be more appropriate sippin' from a mason jar, when you listen to the Allman Brothers. (there is a reason a song recorded 50 years ago still makes people go DAMN!)
Or straight from the bottle or jug!
Yet another legendary band from my home state 💜🍑
Greetings from Canada, I'm a huge Allman Brothers fan, your reaction was perfect.

Live at the Filmore East is even better! This band does everthing better L I V E ❗
Greg's voice is one of Rock's GREATEST. Along with Plant, Ronnie, Ann, Freddie and The Righteous Brothers.
Whiskey and cigarettes and The Allman Brothers - now we're talking.
Greg wrote this song in the middle of the night he could not find a pen so he got a box of matches and used them after he burnt them to write this song about what happen between him and his girlfriend.
