- Today we're making Chicken Vesuvio. This delicious chicken and potatoes dish was created in Chicago and isn't too well known in other parts of America. It has roasted potatoes, seared chicken, and lots of garlic in a tasty white wine lemon butter sauce with peas. I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for voting resoundingly on the music. The written recipe is always linked in the description (it's the little "arrow" on mobile and a "show more" on desktop). In the description, you will also find my shop and other links with cookware/ingredients and all the other things you guys frequently ask about. Thanks for watching and liking my videos!
dude actually ur one of the best western cooking channel, keep the hard work and good luck 👍
Really nice Dish👍☘️..But as I'm an bit of an Veggie Loon' I think I wld also like some diced carrots&those tiny Onions .
And ur 'Judge' most def has a important role to play!!👍 Great Job!
secret to Chicago restaurant vesuvio is granulated garlic on chicken after it is browned before oven
I lived in Chicago almost my whole life, made Chicken Vesuvio many times, had no idea it was a local Chicago dish!
still can't find the written recipe...don't see 'show more' on desktop.
Love how accessible your recipes are for lower income people. I get 95% of your ingredients from great value and make affordable but still delicious meals for my family. Thanks for the great content 😄
I agree. The only pricey things Jim uses are the oil & cheeses. Those two things have to be good or the meal doesn't taste the same. Everything else is either already in our kitchens or is easy & cheap to find.
@@dee_dee_place I'd add panchetta and guanciale to that list, but apoart from that, I agree. I mean that's the thing, you don't need fancy ingredients if you know some basic cooking tricks. Like in this video: Get a good sea on the meatr, use the oven to concentrate flavor, melt some cold butter into sauces to make them thick and glossy. It's as easy as that.
Don't use Great Value spices. A recent study found ghat they're full of toxic things like cadmium and lead and other dangerous non-food fillers.
Made this last night at home in Scotland. My 13 year old son came back for thirds. Great simple recipe for a single working dad. He also gave it a nine. Great work
Thank you and so happy you all enjoyed!
My brother made this for a new neighbor who was from Chicago.... He thought his Chicken Vesuvio days were.... He has become my brother best neighbor....
I respect how James doesn’t want to create mistrust by giving everything a “10” although he wants to. I would be like, “10, 10, uhm…yeah, that’s also a…10”! 🤣 Blessings from Texas!
Love that...what a sweet kid!!
Thank you!
James’ test is my favorite part…recipes are good too! 😂🍕
@@SipandFeast Awesome Professor. The end test by James is always really nice. I'm waiting for eleven out of ten. I've scored some there. Beauty.
"I just don't want to lose people's trust" -- That was awesome.
Such a blessing to have a child like him - tell him we definitely trust him and his reviews! Awesome parenting! ❤
Lifelong resident of Chicagoland here. Glad to see you featuring one of our local favorites. It looks delish!
Thanks so much!
My mother used to make this dish, but put potatoes, garlic and peas in a roasting pan all around a whole chicken. Nothing was pre cooked. Drizzled everything with olive oil and then added her seasonings, salt, pepper and oregano. Then put it in the oven. Delicious every time. I also like your version of this and I will try it next time. You have a great kid there.
What do you mean, this isn’t a health channel? 😂 look at all those peas! 😂 looks delicious!
I bought the big pan and had NO regrets. Thinking I now need a ‘really nice cooking flannel’ to amp up my game.
If I ever sold merch, I think I could come up with an idea or two haha.
@@SipandFeast Flannel aprons and chef hats, please 😁
“I don’t want to lose peoples trust.”
Excellent!
I was thinking it was crazy to have a kid rate the food, but now I'm thinking it's actually a really good indication of how most people would feel about the dish. Good work.
"I just don't wanna lose people's Trust".. Good Man!💙
Omgosh love your son❤️. He doesn’t want to lose our trust.. what a beautiful kid. Oh and your channel is also just as awesome.
I use to eat this dish at an Italian restaurant in the Chicago Suburbs (Gattos) and it was one of my favorites. I haven't had it since I left 6 years ago and now I get to make it at home . Thanks for the great food and your great teaching skills!
Thanks! Such a great dish.
Which Gaito's? Downers Grove?
@@celyda2 I did go to the one in Downers Grove once but frequented the one in New Lenox which was close to our home.
@@gabimarie8 .....Michael and Jane Stern published a book of Harry Caray's restaurant recipes. It has a number of Chicago food favs including Vesuvio chicken.
@@msr1116 thanks so much for the info!
I picked up Chicken Vesuvio at Standard Grocery in Oakbrook Illinois, I had never heard of it before. I was visiting, I am from the south. I was addicted from the very first bite. I have traveled the world., I have never seen it offered anywhere else. It is truly addicting and this recipe is easy and delicious! I give it a 10!
Hi 😊 from Ireland my 20 years old son made this meal for me last night as I was feeling unwell, it was delicious. He introduced me to your channel. Lovely to see you and your son together . All the best 💗
You’re kids are lucky as hell to have you cooking. The leather-like chicken I grew up on. This looks delicious, adding to my list of dinner menu items 😋
Chicago Italian-American here. This is the real deal. One of my family's favorite recipes! I'm so glad you discovered it, and showed everyone how to make Chicken Vesuvio! Side note, some recipes don't call for peas, and some do. I actually like the peas in mine. I can only imagine what a good cook your son is going to be. Saluti.
Thanks so much!
I would give it a ten but don't want to lose peoples trust - love your kid! I've said this before, but I’d love to see you and James cooking something together. He is an impressive young man!
The easy of cooking you make with this meal is fantastic from start to finish. I agree with everyone else on the channel with having James as your taste tester. James is very good about trying to be as trustworthy as he can with his ratings. Nice work James!! The chemistry between father and son during the meal tasting is special. Really enjoy watching. Thanks for sharing.
I really appreciate that.
If you grew up Italian near Chicago you ate this at every wedding, birthday, funeral, baby shower and every other holiday in between
My husband grew up in Chicago. I tried this to surprise him. Winner !!!!!!!!
Just discovered your channel and subscribed. The food is great. The boy is adorable!!! May he taste & rate his dad’s cooking for many many years to come.
"It might splatter all over your really nice flannel" made me LOL. There's a restaurant in Hackettstown, NJ that has chicken Vesuvio and it's totally different, but really good. This looks amazing too. Can't wait to try it!
You have the most authentic kitchen on UA-cam.. Other youtubers have this expensive futuristic kitchens
This kid makes all the difference. He has my trust!
Garlic, lemon, parsley and chicken - this is just a winner combo.
Growing up in chicagoland, this is what I ordered every time we ate Italian.
I can see why. Such a great dish!
Chicagoan here who has Chicken Vesuvio all the time: if you have any leftover peas and potatoes, those should go in your eggs the next morning at breakfast! 😀
Great idea!
The memories James is going to have of you...Wow 😊
haha james takes his rating responsibility very seriously
Any one vote sip and feast chef of the year show love with a like 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Sometimes at the end of a rough day I come home, put on my favorite apron, pour a glass of vino & start chopping garlic, wondering what kind of trouble I can get into. Thanks to you I can now foresee this evening's trouble! Happy new sub here, cheers ✌ 💘 🍷
Thanks and welcome to the channel!
LOL…cute comment 🤣! Enjoy your trouble!
@@beccafitz22 Thank you! Happy Friday... Sending hugs 🤗🤗
"I just don't wanna lose people's trust"...What a great kid ❤
Oooooh ,look at all those beautiful peas, I love Peas and they are one of the most nutritious vegetables on the earth.
“This is not a health channel, guys… at all.”
Suscribed.
Literally my favorite things to eat in one pot
I love the sons honesty
Living in Chicago all my life and I loved having Chicken Vesuvio. I had no idea it was created in Chicago until about five years ago. That would explain why it is served at nearly every Italian restaurant in the area. I'm going to give your version a try at home.
OMG this was so easy and amazing that my mom, who hates chicken and butter LOVED it. I anticipated that no one would eat it so I also made your chicken with garlic and mushrooms recipe and everyone loved it! I've been in a lot of pain lately so actually being able to cook a delicious and healthy meal has been challenging. Total winner on both tasty dishes and no pain flare ups!😄👍👍
This was the quickest, easiest recipe for Chicken Vesuvio I've seen. Gosh, it just looks so good!!.🌿
This is quickly becoming my favorite cooking channel! Great mix of easy to cook and delicious food.
Thank you so much for being so clear and organized with your directions.
It’s such a pleasure watching you cook & explain your process. This is another dish you’ve made I’m looking forward to making.
Your relaxed style while cooking and your relationship with your son make your videos a must watch. Thanks for the great content.
i just wanted to leave a comment because i finally tried this. I'm *not* a good cook. at all. some of the things I've done in the kitchen must never be spoken of. but this looked simple enough for me to handle and it was my wife's birthday so i wanted to do something special. there were a few mistakes made but it was still and incredible dish thanks to how simple you made it. thank you so much for your videos.
So happy you enjoyed it!
Love the ending and they way you two interact with each other. Thanks Jim and James! 😁
I have had this saved for a while and finally made it. So good!
I couldn't resist. I HAD to cook this yesterday. It is SO full of flavor. Love it! Definitely a 10!
Looks delicious as always. And you've redeemed yourself with a " 9 James" rating. One tip I've seen on other shows, to prevent touching a still-hot pan handle, is to leave a kitchen towel on the handle after removing the pan from the oven.
For sure. Figured it was worth mentioning. I'll take the solid 9.
YES! That is a GREAT tip! ...... About a week ago I burned my hand doing that exact thing. 1st degree burn on all 4 fingers and palm. I wish that on no one. Be well and be safe.
Living in FLA but originally from LI. Watching your videos, hearing your voice & cooking your dishes bring me home. Thank you for sharing your recipes!
I made this the night you uploaded the video and it was so good! Had a few friends over and we all loved it. Super easy to make, my grocer was out of chicken thighs so I parted a whole chicken instead and made stock. Takes a very big pan for a whole chicken! Thank you!
I've watched a few of your videos today..and in general a BUNCH of food videos over the years... Your cooking and the food you make is easy to follow and mind blowing-ly delicious... Seriously I want to make everything.... Well done and I hope the world finds your channel!
Amazing!!! Love the way you explain all !!!!!
cooked this tonight for my family. everyone loved it. great recipe instructions. thanks.
I have to say you are raising a gentleman for sure. It's nice to see in these times. I like how you cook without measuring. That is fun for sure. I always learn something. Thank you. Neal
Love your taste tester. I trust him!
Your recipes are great with readily available ingredients. I appreciate that. Trying this chicken soon. Yummy 😋!
Made this a treat to my family for my bday. Loved it.
This one was one my list and I made it tonight for the family - used boneless chicken thighs just as I did with the Chicken Scarpariello last week. Came out so delicious and flavorful! That braise with white wine, lemon, and chicken stock is like a magic combination for juicy tender chicken. I cooked the potato wedges in the air fryer while the chicken was in the oven. Once both were done I reduced the sauce and then served it all over the potatoes. The Chicken Scarpariello is still my top dish but this is a very close second. Thank you!
Looks amazing! Your son is awesome!
Favorite cooking channel and favorite food critic. You rock!
made this monday, was so so good for a novice cook...thanx for explaining everything slowly and throughly, cooked along with video...cant wait to make the meatloaf recipes...
This is one I will be trying soon. Thanks to James! No compromise to your integrity as far as we can see!!
YES! I live in Chicago and love this dish!
Love your channel, you are amazing and down to earth, thanks for the recipes.
You are a wonderful cook and teacher!!
The dish looks fantastic. I have lived in the Chicago burbs since '73 and never had this. It's on the must make list now, thanks. Great channel!
Marvelous as always. This is the best cooking show , ever!!!
I love that you give a great rundown of ingredients in the beginning and the x/10 for the temp on the stove. I'm a new subscriber but I've been watching your older videos first and overall editing has been improving (seemed a little rushed in this video, but still high quality.) All finished up with the peas and that sauce, this dish looks so good! Good job!
This looks so comforting. Thank you. Once I get some better pots and pans, I'll give this a try.
Make this for my daughters last night and their friends.
Always encourage them to start cooking for themselves and start with “Sip and Feast”
Great recipe, thanks for sharing. I made this today, only substituting peas & carrots for the peas. It's delicious and will be in my recipe rotation from now on. Thanks again!
Love your Chanel ,especially the tip about leaving the pan to heat up to prevent sticking .All the best from Bonny Scotland
Fantastic recipe , love you show!
“I don’t want to lose people’s trust”
That’s great.
Made this tonight! My husband loved it! Thanks
Rustic, simple beautiful dish. It's a 10!
Thank you for explaining things thoroughly. That’s awesome. 👍👍
So sweet. Dish looks great.
So, i just made this for dinner and my family and i loved it. One of the best tasting chicken dishes i have ever had.Kudos to you and thanx for the recipes.
Man that looks amazing. Whenever I am trying to decide what to make this channel is in my top 5
I just the way he present his dishes, and his son testing the food is a family cooking. I love it , Congratulations , I will be trying this dish also , cause I cook a lot of chicken . the flavor is the one I would try, not all the same condiments I am used to .
May not be a healthy channel, but there's nothing wrong with wholesome food.
Your cooking rocks! Thank you!
Wow! What a great recipe. I made this recipe for dinner tonight, and my family loved it😍 Thank you!
Love you guys the ultimate feelgood moments of my week :)
Enjoy watching you and getting all the great recipes. Also love watching your son try the dishes and rate them. He's fun to watch.
Love all of your recipes. Very easy to follow with minimal ingredients. I used asparagus instead of peas (it’s what I had) still came out great. 🎉🥰
Our (late) Mom used to make this dish, I'm from Chicago!! Thank you! It's delicious.
I love your chopping board! Amazing like always
I love your videos. You make it so simple and it fits in my lifestyle. Keep them coming
Always loved this growing up
Smart guy! He knows good food! Love this recipe. I’m writing up a list now!
perfect 9. never seen that one before. your son worried about other people's 'trust'. i'd tell him people dont have to trust you. all you have do is what you know is right, always, and you'll never has to think about 'trust' or whether you're making other people happy. trust only what you know is right, kid. keep up the great work
Super job on this wonderful chicken dish. Thanks for providing a recipe that is easy to follow and true to its Chicago roots. Looks as good as the one served as the specialty of La Escarola, a premier Italian restaurant in the windy city.
Every time I watch this, and I have a few times, when you say this isn’t a health challenge and giggle, that makes me laugh so hard. Thanks for the delicious looking food and entertaining videos. I’m going to be making this dish tonight!
Looks amazing as usual! I love these hearty skillet meals.
Just made this tonight. Amazing. Thank you James.
Almost 250k Subs! Let's Gooooooo! I was subbed to this channel back when it had under 10k subs, amazing to see how far you've grown. You deserve it! This chicken dish looks phenomenal.
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
