I feel like the devs originally planned on having Arthur and Sadie fall in love, but changed course, thinking it wouldn't actually fit their character arcs. Sadie's character was too centered around her husband's death, and how it turned her into a monster, that having her fall for Arthur wouldn't make sense for her story. It would also take away from Arthur's whole persona of being the tragic hero, slowly realizing that everything he thought he loved is being lost forever.
to be honest...Sadie and Arthur falling in love would still be tragic if the story pans out originally...Arthur would still catch TB and he would still be the tragic hero of the story and don't forget that he does what he does at the end because he cares about everyone it's just he doesn't show it, while Sadie would probably still want vengeance and kill the last O'Driscolls and probably love Arthur but since he has TB which is contagious as it is around that time she probably would've got close contact with him but still have feelings and as Arthur dies she probably be more angrier, Brutal and more cynical than before.
@@NotRJ001 I feel like a hypothetical Sadie that falls for Arthur, would imply she moved past the pain of her husband's death, making the likely conclusion of her story's arc the hanging of Colm. Finding love with Arthur would remove all incentive past that.
On top of that, if they were intimate, Sadie would have inevitably contracted TB from Arthur. Even if that wasn't so, regardless if Arthur died of TB or from Micha, Sadie's character would have no closure of vengeance... either because TB leaves no enemy, or Micha is destined to be killed by John, years later. Sadie would've either died in the last Arthur mission, dedicated her life to killing Micha years before John, or killed herself from greater heartbreak.
@The Dynamite Dowager that's interesting. I don't doubt you, I just know that the story boards for projects on such a large scale like RDR2, are worked on for years before production begins. Meaning the storyline and characters can be reworked dozens of times before anyone knows it exists. So realistically, Alex McKenna has no idea what the writers originally planned, because that happened years before she was ever casted.
I merely have some inclinations to think the writers considered pairing Arthur and Sadie at some point in their process, because how parts of the final draft of the story were set. The fact we meet and save Sadie in the very first stage of the game, and Arthur comforts her as they ride together. How they don't make her a relevant part of the story, until almost halfway through the main story, as if they scrapped her early storylines... especially considering the gang is out of O'Driscoll territory by the time she becomes relevant. How she's only comfortable being open around Arthur, and always shares the same opinion. How Mary's parts in the story seem like afterthoughts, and don't do much to advance the story and character progression... they literally don't have to be done.
There's quite a few things that lead me to believe the writers considered a different sequence of events for Sadie and Arthur's relationship.
She straight up flirts with John tho

"Big family you got there?"
As much as I think they have great chemistry, Im happy the devs chose to not pursue a relationship between the two
Agreed. It would have taken the spotlight away from the actual essence of this tragic story. Plus, I get sick of every story needing the love factor. This story is not a tragedy of love, its a tragedy of changing times and ending lives
If Arthur lived I’d be 100% on board with them sharing a romantic interest. But Sadie was still mourning her husband in Arthur’s current short lived life so it’s understandable that their relationship stays strictly platonic at this particular time.
In another life 😞
@@apexyl5135 and a tragedy about friendships

Yep! 100%
Hey I think every woman at least once in her life has pulled a "Do I have a boyfriend? For the duration of this conversation, yes, I do." It's easier for her as a beautiful spit-fire to go though town as a married woman. She closed the door on a LOT of potential questions there. Fantastic dialogue.
It’d make sense for the time I guess. I don’t think many women went out of the house without a man (most likely family or husband) accompanying them and were expected to care for the family and home. Most of the women in the work force were single or poor married immigrants but were very limited.
They usually did that to protect themselves. Also most women back then needed a man because life was harsh back then. When ur on survival mode the 2 genders act completely different than when ur not in survival mode
@@theperyton9895 some places it was illegal to leave without a husband or a man accompanying the woman
@@canadianbluepants9446And then we make a make a mockery of the moslems for having the same religious policies despite all the terrible things that happened to lone women throughout history
Yep, I've even been the guy who played along and held hands etc. It happens.
Despite what some people think about her, i think there was only one woman in Arthur's eyes, and that was Mary, from how he wrote about her in his journal to his actual interactions with her. And considering Mary was one of the only other characters to actually visit Arthur's grave. As for Sadie, her Jake was the only man for her. Im glad they are just friends because it would have tarnished her revenge arc and made it seem pointless, and tragedy of Arthur's death a little less tragic i feel. There was only one woman for Arthur, and only one man for Sadie.
And may I also add in, the mission where you're tailing her father after he sold the locket where Arthur Hides against the wall with Mary, if you pay attention to how the controller vibrates, it's matching his heart beat.
not that it actually means anything, but roger clark (arthurs voice actor) posed as mary in the scene where she looked at arthurs grave, so technically arthur visited himself
Plus in one of Marys missions if you stick around in the Saint Denis Theater you can get the choice to "make a move" but nothing really happens, he does the ol stretch warp around arm but she sees and he stops it
Nah, Arthur already had a woman before and it definitely wasn't Mary.
Well he also writes in his journal that had it not been for John he probably would have gone after Abigail. Sorry I don’t remember what chapter that was in but he spoke about how he would have gotten with her had he not taken his time about before John came.
I think the beauty of Arthur and Sadie's chemistry is that they both feel very aware that it's there but neither would act on it. Feels like they both view it as a 'in another life' type of scenario that only exists in its potential. In a way, that kind of adds to the tragedy and loneliness of the game as a whole - knowing these two characters who could be so good together are so close but it could just never happen
I absolutely adore Sadie, and never have I ever thought to follow her in the store!
Sadie was always a second favorite of mine behind arthur in character development. She's the type of woman who will take a punch to the face, spit out the blood, and ask, "is that all you got?" Plus how you see her rise above losing her husband and make a name for herself as a bounty hunter was nice to see. I think in the games there maybe was a hint of somethinf between the two of them but knew it could never be, her being loyal to the end with her husband and arthur still having his heart with Mary.
I wouldn't say she was loyal to the end bc she openly tells John and Charles she'll move to South America and either become a mercenary for hire or she'll find a wealthy man to marry. So she did eventually move on to other men
I liked her on the first play through but on the 2nd I realised how annoyingly, impulsive she is, psychopathic and also oblivious she is.
More like the kind of lady that would headbutt the fist, breaking the knuckles and say, "That's using ur noggin." As she fire's a colt at his forehead lol
It's more like while she's still mourning her husband's death, if she would also develop feelings towards Arthur it would be a tragedy as when they become "besties" in a way, Arthur is already TB contaminated and it only goes worst as the story advances. In "better" days, I'm pretty sure he could make her surpass the death of her husband and she would be able to open Arthur's eyes to the Narcissistic personality of Mary, who cares about herself and nothing more, using Arthur as she feels needed. But the story goes at it goes, so I'm glad they remained besties with, for sure, mutual feelings and nothing more complicated as "love story" between the two is definitely incompatible with "the story of Arthur's redemption", which demands his death in a sufferable way to achieve some atonement. We all romanticize so much this universe of RDR2 we all also seem to forget our heroes are in many ways despicable outlaws, robbers and killer, as our brains don't want to compute that because we "fell in love" with a lot of characters. Cheers.
i'm SO glad they didn't try to force a romantic arc between Sadie and Arthur. it works out beautifully as it's portrayed and the dialogue in the mission where Sadie and Arthur go to Hanging Dog Ranch for some payback is beautiful (and sad).
I remember wanting more mission with her.... Too bad there are only a handful of them. And the ending parts, I pretty much lost interest in her character... too far gone.
To me the relationship between Arthur and Sadie is like a “what could be” kinda thing. They definitely have a dynamic that would have made them (in a different life) something real. But because of circumstances and how things actually were they didn’t have that desire to pursue it. It just wasn’t in the cards for them. But the spark was totally there.
yes, this is explained perfectly.
I think that's because they were originally supposed to get together by the end of the story, but on the other hand I'm very glad they didn't pick that route. Their dialogue and relationship is perfect just the way it is, and it really shows that both Arthur and Sadie were still very much in love with their former lovers. Makes the story more tragic and "real" too, even though the spark really was there
Exactly. They know in a different life they could be lovers - but not this one. But kindred spirits for sure, but they've promised their souls to another already, and to pursue eachother in this life would be disrespectful, both to their past loves - and to their other life where they could be together. Anything less just cheapens it. Be careful who you let into your heart folks.
I’m glad they made Sadie and Arthur friends. Sometimes relationships aren’t needed it’s a good friendship that worked in the end.

Kilgore was the whole camp's alias not Arthur's specifically. I think Sadie loved her Jakey so much that she wouldn't have been able to move on & find another. That's why she became a bounty hunter. She was going to do all she could to prevent someone else from experiencing that heart ache & if she died in the process she'd get to be with her soul mate once again. I think she & Arthur worked better as a sibling/best friend relationship.
I remember wishing Arthur to settle down with her when she first started to talk to the gang, but by the time you do missions with the Chief and learn about Arthur's family that he tried to have, i understood that it was probably for the best
I can hear Arthur to the shop owner "Ya hear that? MR. Kilgore to you!"
They would be a great couple in another life. But in the one they each chose, only tragedy could follow them, preventing them from forgetting their origins and reasons for being part of Dutch's band, which is why RDR2 is so beautifully poetic.
The Van Der Linde gang could have worked, in another life...
Power Couple.
Together, civilisation couldn't handle it
Honestly, Sadie liking Arthut in a platonic way would have maked more sense on her searching up revenge on Micah a lot more
The devs actually wanted to make them a couple, trashed the idea and a few time after the game's release they said they regreted not making them kiss ( talking about that scene before they go and save john from prison ) .
This would make both their characters even more tragic as
1 - Arthur, who spent his whole life running away from women to protect them from his life, even had his son and his morther's son killed, had finally found someone who was up to his level, whom he didn't had to protect, matter of fact, someone who would also protect him and that was in the same life as him. Finally when he found her, he dies, never being able to have a family or to truly enjoy the company of eachother, he just dies thinking of what they could've become.
2 - Sadie, who had recently lost her husband, found a new man that lifted her up, teached her, loved and protected her, just so that he dies again. This would make her story even sadder.
3 - This could mean that Sadie would also get tb, possibly dying after the end of the story and before the start of the epilogue. After avenging the death of her new lover, she could also possibly die, looking at herself, her hands filled with blood of those who killed her lovers, but more important, of a lot of people that had nothing to do with those deaths. In her final moments she contemplates how she went from good (in tearms of like, not killing anyone) housewife to a rageful killer, she understands her mistakes and asks Arthur for his forgivness, saying how she's so wrong for what she has done after remembering what Arthur always used to tell her "Revenge is a fools game" ( or something around those lines, maybe could be changed to have a more dramatic impact ) dying in a mountain looking at the sun setting ( This would contrast with Arthur's character, we went from bad to good and died watching the sun rise, Sadie would've gone form good to bad and watched the sun setting )
I can imagine they’d eventually end up together if Arthur didn’t die of TB or Micah.
No
okay but if those two were a couple they’d rule the world
Every character remembers arthur fondly. Sadie hasnt forgotten about arthur. At all.
I like to think that Sadie would've loved Arthur after some time, but it actually turns into a sibling kinda love. like how John has love for Arthur and vice versa.
Awwww the romance I wanted
I think it was the plan to have Sadie and Arthur to Fall in love, Arthur realising that the other Troubled Relationship with Mary was never going to work because he isnt what she wants, while Sadie accepts what he is, with her moving past the grief for her Husband Jack, only to lose Arthur to TB and become the Bounty Huntress and exact Vengence on Miach after the revalations about him. This would explain why she is so determined in the Epilouge and really has to push John into hunting Miach.
His husband’s name was “Jake” not “Jack”
The mission where Sadie tells you to get up to the lighthouse she calls you honey
"Well that's that then, after all them years"
"Lets get her back arthur you and me is all we need"
We all would have loved this to happen for real, but it just wouldn’t fit the story too well in my opinion as Sadie was too sad about Jake’s death and Arthur was just meant to be alone sadly.
Eh... that's not the reason. TB is what made it impossible, mid to late game. The first part, they were both dealing with their own baggage... and it was too soon for both of them.
wish they just gave an option to pursue the relationship. If you didnt then just continue the game and if you do well maybe give an ending that everybody wanted where arthur lives cause i know people somewhat wanted arthur to live in the end but thats just my opinion

It would of made SO much more sense when Sadie hunts down Micah for killing Arthur, if she and Arthur were a Bonnie and Clyde of New Hanover. Arthur was the one who saved her from O'driscolls, helped her get revenge on them, and She and Arthur have both lost their families. Arthur mentions his wife and son who were killed over $10 while riding with Rains Fall. Because they spoke to each other slightly differently. Because they're both very alike & share the pain of loss. Because Arthur admires her & often seems really impressed by her. While Sadie, by her own admission, trusted him the most & always thought he was a great man. Because for as much as she likes to say a part of her died with her Husband, Arthur's presence kinda kept it alive. Because we all like to fantasize & know that if Arthur hadn't had TB, there's a strong chance they would've gone off together. Charles was with the Indians & they most likely wouldn't have stayed with John, Abigail & Jack. It wouldn't have been instantaneous or automatic, but they could've had something

I really like to think that after mary told arthur it wasn't going to work out, and after sadie was able to exact her revenge on the odriscolls they would have ended up together had arthur not passed away and they were able to make their getaway. they were probably as close as arthur and john by the end of the game, and sadie even says arthur is the only one she trusts anymore. kinda makes it sadder in my opinion
The Scene where she called him honey :D
I feel like Arthur and Sadie could’ve definitely worked out if Arthur lived a lot longer, not putting them together was probably the better choice writing-wise.
How is your game so clear and smooth looking ? Mine looks kinda blurry and a littlebit und moot h I m playing on ultra graphic quality still looks like its medium or high , can you tell me your settings ?
In the final mission after john dies at least arthur thinks so we go to help abigail and after you come to the town she says honey to arthur
The only way they could ever have gotten together would be after the gang dissolved. If Arthur was found still alive up on that cliff face, and they nurse him back to health (and not over exerting himself at every opportunity like he always does, damn martyr of a fool)
They should make make a dlc for young Arthur Morgan
Have you checked the vid i have created backstory of arthur Morgan? , I have used young arthur model there
Funny thing I noticed about Sadie is her coping mechanisms. I think the gang and her recklessness was her coping over her husband's death. After Arthur dies, she becomes a bounty hunter. Practically announcing you were one back then was pretty much a death wish so for her to go that far meant Arthur's death hit just as hard as her husband's. Rockstar denies a lot but they always like to do something to the contrary.
Also they when they argued, it was always like a married couple.
I was so good to her through the whole game I wish she and Arthur got together
The one thing I love about rdr2 is how tough arthur looks like he genuinely looks like he would knock your head off your shoulders if he was motivated enough
They would have been a nice couple but Sadie is still grieving which wouldn't be as appropriate
That scene in the mission Red Dead Redemption where she calls Arthur “Honey” damn near made me faint. Had me almost calling her mommy. Then Micah had to go and ruin my infatuation
The sound design of this game is insane
