    We used the slim hangars and the way we did it (if not putting them in a bag) was to group 10 together and then zip tie them together. Then we tied a garbage bag around the hook from the bottom up so that if anything fell off of the hangar it would stay in the bag. Those slim hangars really hold together with the zip ties and you can easily grab and carry the clothes bundle. We called my daughters medicine kit her "get better box". We also included pulse oximeter these past two years with the pandemic. Even though this is her junior year at TCU, we still had a big fight in Target last week about a few last minute items :)

    Thank you so much Marnie! Your college videos are so helpful. I particularly love your advice to back off and let our students take the lead. As a natural planner, this isn't always easy for me, but I have to admit it's what I don't do that has most helped my 19 year old become a competent, confident young man. Although I will say, he is a tad bit underestimating the move-in challenge of a Sophomore dorm room in a 140 year old building - on the fourth floor with no elevator or air conditioning!

    My tip is to get them an inexpensive area rug with a pad. It makes the room so much more comfortable. My daughter told me she thought it helped her make friends because her room was so cozy.

    My children are grown, with children of their own, but I love to watch these videos and live vicariously. Sometimes I miss those days, even though I have two amazing and caring sons and wouldn't have it any other way.

    Thank you soooo much for this. I've been watching you for a while but wasn't aware of all your other videos on this subject. Will totally check them out. I held it together until you started in about the dinner reservations! Great idea but the tears started to flow at that moment! He's doing a year of service in Americorps NCCC before his Freshman year and many of these tips were helpful for that as well. You're so right, all the feels are happening.

    I was watching Fuller House the other day and at some point the dad said 'the hardest part about being a parent is that if you're good at it, eventually, you're out of a job', your children may not need you the same way they did when they were screaming for you in kindergarten but they still need you. They're lucky to have you Marnie, I feel like I say this in every single one of your parenting videos but growing up I wish I'd had more hands-on parents telling me a vaccum cleaner would be a great icebreaker for making friends ;) (it's so true though!) That was a surprisingly touching video, lovely to watch, and on a more practical note, I *need* a steamer! :)

      That's a great line. I remember a friend of mine saying she felt like she was getting laid off from her dream job. It's a strange, transitional time in our lives but it can be a lot of fun, too!

    This was great Marnie! We live in CA and are taking our oldest to college in FL in 4 days! Since we are flying he’s only bringing his clothes & shoes and we’ll have to buy EVERYTHING for his dorm once we get there😬Also since it’s so far & expensive to fly we won’t see him again until Christmas. Gonna be soooo hard😭

  • @JLeigh75309

    I wish there had been something like Better Help when our son began college. I don't know if he'd have participated in it (we were calling and paying for cabs in another state to get him to therapy). There is far less stigma in reaching out for care now than even a decade ago. He wanted no part of it. Ah well.

    • @MsGoldgirl
      @MsGoldgirl  3 роки тому

      I was just talking about this at a doctor's appointment today-we need to stop calling it mental health. It's just health. But thank God there is starting to be less stigma attached to addressing these issues!

    Awww Marnie, thank you for this. Our baby is off to college in a few weeks. 😢 Cannot believe we’ll have no kiddos at home, first time in 32 years! The house is full of anxiety from both her and me.
    Love your guidance regarding the online help (saved that info) & all of your insight. I know she’ll be fine, but feeling sad already. I’ll be missing my sidekick!
