That's the best. Tie the hangers together with the ties.
You can also use a belt through the inside of the hanger. The end of the belt makes a great handle.

I think a good piece of advice is to make sure that you’re packing heavy things like books, tools, etc. in small boxes (as small as they can fit) and light things like blankets, pillows, etc. in large boxes. its tempting to throw all of your books in a big box so they’re all together but you probably wont be able to lift it on your own

That's really smart! I use wine boxes for heavy stuff like books, or rolling suitcases. It's just more secure and easier on movers.

Moving hack from someone who has worked with pro movers. If you are loading a moving truck, line the back wall with the boxes stacked high. Once all boxes are in you can put mattresses/box springs in front to hold them back there and strap that all down against back wall. Then you start lego-ing furniture. You don't want room for things to wiggle or shift during the drive. You don't want a bunch of loose stuff up top. Only things that will stay relatively still. For your mirrors, art, glass, breakable things wait till the end and on the wall near the front you'll want to have a dresser or some solid place to set them. Put down towels/blankets for them to sit on as well. Then between each piece of glass/art ect put another towel or blanket. Padding between each one. Finally strap the whole padded mass against the wall. Another thing to load last is chairs. They can be set on top of stuff at the end. Also be sure to utilitize spaces in your car. The easier it is to start pulling out the furniture then the beds and then the boxes will make the unloading much faster

For anyone reading the comments, Home Depot sells boxes for less than $1. I love the small size the most because they are easy to carry two of them, they have handles, and I find that things break less if you don’t put as much into large boxes.

For anyone on a budget, a few months prior to your move, hoard your boxes from packages!! I saved all my large Chewy, Amazon and Thrive market boxes. Sure, it’s kinda messy but I didn’t pay for a single moving box! :)

This is a great shout! I have to have thrown 20 good sized boxes from Amazon in the recycling bin over the last 6 months, so it'd be a shame to then have to search for or pay for some when I need them for my move.

Yeah, I work at a winery/brewery/distillery and we go through so many boxes!! That’s how I got all the boxes I need for my move. And the dividers in the wine boxes are so convenient for glassware, and the growler & howler boxes are the perfect size for 3-wick candles (I have a massive candle collection, so this was a huge win for me.. lol).

Use ikea bags for linens, bedding, small rugs, sweaters, hair stuff... etc. I taped labels to them and it made it super simple. They also take up less room in a truck. Also reusable!

I used these as well, I also used compression bags on Duvets, blankets.. I love the IKEA storage boxes with the zippers so you can just store them in your linen closet with the items labelled on the outside. I had four..one for towels, one for bed linen, one for table linen and one for Duvets and Blankets. Highly recommend these IKEA storage boxes with zippers.

The way I label my boxes: get FedEx pouches (they're free!), cut copy paper (8.5 x 11) in half, write your description and slide inside the pouch. The pouch can stay on the box, the paper can be recycled, and new paper with description reinserted for future use. You can also use colored copy paper for box/room assignment.

I’ve actually used the trash bag jack before when moving clothes and it was perfect! It might add a little extra time but I actually used the other end of the trash bag so that I could still use the bags later on! The process was basically the same, but instead I started on the bed to shove the clothes in and then hung them up to tie the bag elastic around the hangers

This is a good video Sophia! I have done a lot of these and that first one will change your moving experience Soooo much! I started first using those suit bags but those are more costly and can't cover as many clothes as a cheaper garbage bag. I love the screws taped to the piece of furniture, that is a great idea. For me, I always have had the necessity box/bag and chargers and things like that need to be in there as well. Last bust not least the bed being done first is such great advice! You know you get tired. Take a break or a nap and feel that new place happiness! Amazing looking spot btw. Congrats on that 😉

Great tips! I learnt a lot from this video and I have a little tip on my own.
Instead of cardboard boxes, I have inexpensive, reusable, stackable plastic boxes. They are easier to carry because of their built-in handles and there are even some with wheels for the heavier objects.
Once the moving part is over, they can be used as dust- and water resistant storage containers and the clear ones allow to see what's inside without needing to go through all of them.

The way I do my labels so I can reuse the box is by doing the same thing you did but writing on the outside of the tape with wet erase markers, or by taping down three sides of a page protector and inserting my label that way. Easy removal and it won't damage your box. Removing the wet erase markers can be kind of messy though.

Thank you, you did a Great Job!!
I give every box a number and make a list with all the box numbers, for each box number I write what important or kinds of things are in the box so I can target the box I need with lightning speed. It also helps to keep the boxes in numerical order especially if they're going into storage. Add your sticky notes tip to this and you can't go wrong!!

@@GodsDaughterQ Thank uou 😁 so glad it helped. I also did it with my craft room. Gave evey flat surface, drawer and shelf a number... T for Table.. TA for table A, TB, T C.. Shelf - S1 for shelf unit 1 then each shelf on S1 - S1A, S1B, etc.. or Area - (an area under a table or corner.. A1, A2, etc.. works great for garages. Stick the list to a clipboard on a handy wall spot and you can finally relax. Makes purging stuff so easy. Just work through the list at your pace. I use a note app and make one note called Where I Stuck It just for those moments when I hid something or like a mouse catcher/trap knew I'd forget where I stuck it... So helpful. Saved me a number of times.
Take care, have a great summer!!

I like the idea of putting valuable and breakables in the suitcase. I always wrap things with shirts and towels. And things so that I already knew and you can buy boxes at Walmart that are specifically for packing and moving which are not that expensive.

The helpful tip that I got from this video was the trashbag over the clothes! That's a genius idea!! For pre-planning, if you live on the ground level, invest in a dolly or a wagon. If you live on a above ground level, make sure there's an elevator so you can use dolly and wagon. ✌️

In another video, I saw a caution against using black (or any opaque) garbage bags for packing clothes. The movers thought they were trash and threw all the clothes away!

If all your clothes are sorted into types and hanging on the same kind of hanger, it really helps you get the trash bag on, from the bottom up, so they are reusable. I like your rubber band idea. Also, I bought clear plastic shoe bags from Amazon and sorted them by use.

Furniture stores often have huge boxes they will give you for long furniture hauls to protect your appliances. They also make a great makeshift dumpster if you have a truck. Put it in truck and just slide into landfill dumpster.

For boxes, at least in Ontario, Canada, a cheap way to get boxes is collect them from work, LCBO (liquor store), grocery stores, etc. I’ve looked them all up too. Canadian Tire has the cheapest boxes ($1.79, $2.79 and $3.79 for small, med and large). Large is massive and a bit useless. Med is nice cuz there’s only so much you can fit in small LCBO boxes

Label the boxes by writing on masking tape so you don’t have to rip it off. Just cover it with more masking tape and relabel for your next move.

We always go to the local hospital to get boxes. We can get the file type boxes that they get sterilized tools in so they aren't wet or messy. They are always happy to let you have these ..... This way ours are all the same size and nice clean white boxes.... Then post to give away on Facebook when we are done and make someone else's day!

Amazon has these amazing Heavy duty zipper bag boxes, with back pack straps. You use them just like a box, only it's a bag, so when you arrive and upack, you have these easy to store BAGS, not boxes. And with the carry handles and back pack straps, no lugging a box!

U-Haul has the least expensive boxes that we've found. Also, get boxes that are the same size. That makes stacking them up much easier than having 100 boxes that are different heights, etc. Also the U-Haul boxes have hand holds in the sides! Much easier to carry with hand holds.

Ha! I thought I invented the rubber band trick. Been using it for years now. What I typically do though, is that I roll the clothes around the tied together hangers, and put these rolls in a large thick garbage bag, that way you need fewer bags. Some moving companies also provide tall boxes with a clothing rail on top where you can hang these tied together clothes.

Moving boxes: You can actually find out when certain stores get their trucks and then go there later that night or the next day and they'll usually have a ton of boxes they'll give you for free. I work at Dollar Tree and people come get our boxes all the time! All we do is throw them away anyway. Plus then you can pick out the different sizes you want 🙂

Didnt see this one in comments: Take a picture of the contents of the box before sealing. Add a number like "K 1", Kitchen 1, and you have a general idea of what is where. You can index each box on an index card but thats a bit too OCD for me lol. I also built stuff with cardboard, even shelves. Recycle!

Amazon sells large rectangular duffle bags made of IKEA bag blue material. I moved all my soft goods in those. Zip tied the zippers and straps, just in case. Also, I use Bankers Boxes for heavy and delicate items. They are stronger than brown boxes, and stack easily, and I break them down flat and store in giant zip lock storage bags for my next move.
