When even the chillest and calmest WoW player and content creator had to quit the game he loved for years, then it means that the current state of the game is reeeeaaally bad.
I will never, ever forget a moment I had playing Diablo 2 in early 2000s, with a full party of random online players, hacking our way through Act 2 in Normal, with shitty magic and rare items, and I had the thought "I'm having more fun here than doing Baal runs in Hell for gear". I remember it so clearly.
Thanks Blizzard. You single handedly made my childhood amazing with Blackthrone, Diablo, Warcraft, StarCraft and WoW. And I hate you Blizzard, because you ruined all off them
But it doesn't work that way, games die because of the endless greed. There isn't any WoW killer since every single MMO these days is pay2win. The first solid MMO with subfee only, no cashshop at all and a sufficient GM team to deal with RMT will be "the WoW killer".
not always the case when i was playing wow years ago i quit for a little bit and when i came back somehow blizzard lost my account so i had to start over and the boosts atleast kept me from having to relive the leveling grind all over again.
@@isaacxi3514 imo the FFXIV shop isn't bad they sell mostly cosmetic things and with the boosts you can only buy one per account and it doesn't get you all the way to max level, only enough to get you to recent content.
So many people are quitting Wow, even without factoring the news of the lawsuit in... it's crazy to me. The news of the lawsuit showing how deep these issues have run and bled into the games performance and the community. Really hurts watching all these dots being connected and just being left to watch to fallout of the company I once loved and wanted to work for. Its a shame.
I think it’s funny how people are letting politics ruin the fun they have on a game. I don’t agree with what happened at blizzard but it’s not gonna stop me from having fun on a game
At the end even Asmon just sounds sad. I was too. It's crazy how Blizz is able to push away people who've played their game for 15 years. They didn't just lose another subscriber. They lost Madseason. Hope the best for his new content
@Andy Chou Poor leftist troll, go outside. You don't even know what reaction you're trying to get or who you're trying to insult nor how you believe you're insulting them. GO OUTSIDE, LEARN HOW THE WORLD WORKS.z
madseason is part of why i started wow again after not touching any expansions ever. played vanilla, saw the horseshit and moved on. came back at the drought of WoD just to take a look-see and had the good sense to quit again during BFA.
Asmongold. A former wow player, is now a resident erper that resides in limsa, after clearing all of the ultimate raids and forcing zepla to be a lalafell for a full year, he gets married to a person who pretends to be yshtola. Canon ending.
The way I see it: For mad season, it’s the end of an era but the dawn of a new beginning. He said he’s not quitting making content, so that’s a relief. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I watch him for him not WoW. WoW is dead, but not the immortal mad season!
@@dunkirito8308 Is it really far from dead though? MMOs have accelerated free falls. The more players that leave the faster players will continue to leave. Content for the game is already very far behind to the point where Shadowlands is guaranteed to be missing a whole patch worth of content unless they decide to wait longer to release the next expac... We know sub numbers have been reaching all time lows since WoD otherwise they wouldnt hide the metric. I think to pretend WoW isnt in a horrible state is alittle naïve.
@@familyvalue5588 I never said WoW isn’t in a horrible position, though. It *is* in a horrible position, hence why I said it’s dying. However, the moment WoW releases a new expansion, everyone will be jumping back to play and check out the new content.
@@dunkirito8308 Again i think thats naïve, while its true numbers do jump each new expansion, the following months after they almost always dive to *below* the number of subbed before the expac was released. Not to mention that after each expansion is clear more and more players are getting fed up with the game. I also underestimate how many players play games now to have "shared streamer experiences" AKA there is a large portion of folks that play a game that their favorite streamers play just to be like them and have a chance to meet them. I dont think its an extremely small group of folks either. Unless the wow team makes some radical changes for the next expac, and let it bake awhile, i think the game is really only one expac away from dead. Yes, we both agree its dying, but it seems for some reason you think it has the chance to slowly decay, but i really doubt that.
I managed to play it for several hours and it didn't click for me. I always found it weird as fuck and obnoxious that you need to buy the game AND spend on it monthly. They would still profit on the game if they had the subscription for 1/3 of the price but the milking spirit was always strong here
Man, this makes me remember when WOW was new and I saw the trailers, watching my dad play, him letting me play on his account with my own character, the friends I made, the experiences I had, and now it's all gone. This makes me really sad, I miss the old days of Blizzard.
The answer isn't a re-do. The answer is to end. Like a bad relationship, stop holding on to the good times in the past. It is what it is now and it's time to move on.
@@illiji915 What would that change? You realize that its not activision fault for everthing? All OG's from blizzard are gone even if they split i dont think much would change
I had the same take-away from this Madseasonshow video as Asmongold. Over the last 7 or so years, I've periodically mused with friends that we could come back to WoW when we're all retired, and raid from the comfort of our retirement homes. Even while joking, there was no doubt in my head that it would be an actual option to us, even decades from now. Obviously, I didn't keep track of the changes that Blizzard made since I left. This was very illuminating, to say the least. Now I feel like the time I got an imported chocolate bar as a kid, and saved it until it was waaaay past its expiration date. I feel like I didn't fully enjoy WoW while it was great. There were so many things I was hoping to eventually do, but now there's no value in doing it. After watching this, I'm not even sure that I would even enjoy a virtual walk down memory lane. Man.
Ngl you said it perfectly. It was hard for me back then to understand and fully appreciate how good WoW was back then. The things I missed and will probably never fully experience it.
as someone who loves the classic zones like westfall which bring me back to simpler times, yes, the emptiness of the world is an absolutely catastrophic side-effect of boosting
I played wow for myself. I didn't boost, I didn't know dungeon que existed so I just walked around doing any quest I found and it was fun. Any new, better piece of gear felt earned. Then I played for a friend of mine who had a bunch of characters that he asked if I could level up and all I did was sit in stormwind and wait for the dungeon que to find a group. Boring af but it is apperantly the fastest way to level up other than boosts now. Blizz killed WoW.

I would say if anything he just feels sorrow about it, having so much passion for something and slowly finding out its no longer what you loved is a painful thing. I felt that way at the start of mop and since then I have became a seasonal player because while I love the lore the things they started doing just got worse and worse for me.

Same here man, but I really liked Madseason and the end of that video was not only his goodbye to WoW itself, but also reliving the memories the game once brought all of us. Absolutely broke my heart, and every time I rewatch it, as soon as the song kicks off at the end I can't help but tear up a bit. :/
@@jamestomlin5525 this has nothing to do with getting older, it's everything to do with the game and blizz being absolute dog shit. I've quit wow completely, but I'm still going to go full neck beard on other games like FF14, new world, and FPS.
I mean who can be passionate about wow nowadays. the phrase: "no king rules forever" is so god damn sarcastic, coined for one of the best raids of wow, where the game was at it's peak, the lore was so excellent mixing what you could play in warcraft and it's expansions and the lore of the wow expansions. @@NaraKwonPoD What? WoW Development started in 2001, the activsion-merger didn't happen until 2008, since that time practically every notable Blizzard developer has moved on, Blizzard is literally a corpse stuffed full of activisions money. Screw Blizzard for doing this. Watching MSS and Preach struggle through their GOODBYE videos is something that was 100% unnecessary and 100% their fault.
I quit WoW for good around 2008 or so, , but watching that ending montage, man it really made me feel like I was part of an era. The hardest part of growing up and growing older is truly knowing the blissful ignorance and childhood happiness you had back then.
So true man, so true. :( I was part of that era with you, along with millions of other people. It wasn’t just a game, it was a period of all our lives that we shared together. you got all the best parts of WoW, the game started dying after Wrath. but if you quit in 2008, you didn't play much of Wrath of the Lioch king then. I quit in 2009 and didn't start playing again until 2013 (which I now regret)
Im with Asmon in this one, they need to nuke and erase everything since Arthas death in WotLK. Even lore is beyond salvation, at this point is just a bunch of stupid/complicated nonsense.
I don't think its a coincidence that WotLK came out in 2008 and Activision merged with Blizzard in 2008 when it couldn't effect the expansion. I hope I feel will happen with this is true and it will lead to a renaissance for WoW.
Nuke entire company. Get some old devs back. Some amazing new ones, Make WoW 2. Entire plot is when we actually were killed by arthas, everything that happened after was just the death transition or something. Some kind of fever dream. Tirion still broke free, shattered frostmourne and delivered the final blow to Arthas. He was unable to resurrect us because arthas was almost finished turning us into ghouls. Our bodies were already too gone to be saved. From here you could kinda pretend shadowlands was the end of the death dream and you awaken in the real shadowlands and find a way back to azeroth. Or, redo shadowlands and have us just wake up there, OR just forgo everything after WotLK and chalk it up to fever dream, and we start cataclysm, or whatever else, and begin the opening cutscene with a celebration/memorial for the fallen heroes and Tirion after the fall of the lich king. Bolvar, albiet, unknown to the public, is still wrestling with Ner'Zul for the rest of eternity. As for Sylvanas, no amount of retcon can make me unhate her.... except maybe retcon her being saved by the Val'Kyr after throwing herself off icecrown. Just end her. She is already ruined. Garrosh can be redeemed. Potentially. To paraphrase Asmon, I want to play games that are really fucking good.

The graphics in WoW were simplistic even at launch in 2004 but they had a consistent style and ran on a wide range of hardware and they looked artistically good for the rendering cost. Back then you could already do bump mapping on some GPU hardware. Games of that era that showed this included Halo 2 and Riddick Butcher Bay. WoW avoided that but they had some interesting use of blended multi-texture and particle effects to pull off an interesting look. It was not "good" by the best standards of the time but they had vastly more 3D content that just about any other title.
@Honudes Gai yes or no. One problem is that there's been a dearth of competition - serious competition - attempts in the MMO space for the last 10 years or so because everything that tried was crushed by WoW. So the games being made right now are in the best place to capitalize on its fall, but since it wasn't really obvious WHEN WoW would fall (it was obvious it was on the way out, but it being NOW was the question mark), none may be being made right now in a great place to release soonish and actually compete for that market. For example, there are a lot of PvP focused ones on the way that are supposed to "save MMOs", but PvP is only one aspect of MMOs. Ashes of Creation I'm excited for, but it strikes me a lot like Eve. I love Eve, but it's not everyone's cup of tea having to watch over your shoulder when you to out to mine because you could be ganked, and when you finish mining and are transporting your ore to a Starbase/Station/Outpost (in AoC, a town/city) and your convoy can be attacked and destroyed raided. That's not for everyone - and I'd wager it's not FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE. Even with WoW being a more PvP focused game, its greatest strength is consistently in its raids, which are good to this day and are one of the few things almost always praised about the game, and I'm not sure AoC or New World is going to scratch that itch given their greater focus on the PvP world aspect. So in theory, WoW's fall could open the doors for a lot of innovative new MMOs to try and figure out what exactly players WANT... ...but remember, "inertia" is a thing in MMOs. If you're already playing one or know friends who are, you're more likely to join and play that one. So FFXIV is already in a place where it's attracting lots of WoW refugees to it as a new home. Meaning a new MMO after that has to figure out now just how to appeal to them and also to be good, but it must also figure out how to be appealing ENOUGH it overcomes their inertia to just stay with FFXIV.

A whole era i missed out on because i couldnt grind up to 20 on my first tauren all those years ago when i was a kid. My brother was always a huge fan of the game, but ive no idea what his thoughts have been on the "evolution" of the game throughout the years as a wide age gap and living situations that evolved over time kinda hurt chances at communication. A lot of people ive watched throughout the years have had the experience of being a part of the warcraft world, i hear about "nostalgia andys" a lot but tbh, during those years of the wow expansions coming out, life then was great for me, it really was a simpler time in my life.
as a person that joined wow in legion, I am sad to say I joined in the end of what was wow. I too recognize the strengths of vanilla, tbc (which when I was a kid looked so intriguing and awesome- really wanted to play the game back then), wotlk which like classic had an awesome structure, Cata (which again thrilled me to shits when my best bud told and showed it to me, and seemed similar to tbc in gameplay mechanics and layout), mists (which took a hit in the story by the end, personally and also suffered from kung fu panda syndrome), wod (awesome questing, leveling but was crippled by bad mechanics and poor planning in the end) and legion (the purely amazing end to an unbelievably long and fantastic journey, though also came short in some of the mechanics departments, but was ok. suffered slightly from issues in end game dungeons imho). Bfa and shadowlands has continued to build on what made wod and legion so tedious and unrewarding. sure the quests and story was pretty damn alright, though many flaws can be pointed out in the core plot of bfa and sl. sl introduced more of the little things to do, but at the core gameplay was just garbage and not well tuned, especially bad in pvp. the absolute worst part in later years is the way the game is structured to force you to have a sense of urgency to get to the end of the game in order to enjoy it. Gone are the days, in huge contrast to classics release where you can progress horizontally as well as vertically. You could take time to read quests, go back and forth. Gameplay was to be found for everyone, not just those that had finished the main grind. leveling is no longer an achievement. its no longer about the journey. questing was not awesome by itself, but you felt accomplishment for every step you took. completing a dungeon, finding the secrets within while acquiring stronger than usual gear in order to stand out and steamroll normal quests afterwards is completely lacking these days. There is no longer a gear piece that you can loot that you feel like you just got in your hands a relic, a weapon or armor piece that was specifically there for a reason, for you to find that makes you so so much stronger, gives your character debt and has a story behind it both in lore and in real life as to how you as a person got this item. The same goes for the mounts. The talents you learned along the way felt like your character just had a revelation after just barely getting by after taking on a pack of six wolves, or a particularly strong and badass opponent, after completing a quest for someone or for discovering something. That sensation when you meet another player that is doing the same as you, and you both compete for the same resources. Sure its' not the most fun experience then and there, and you might lose out. But come on, looking back, these interactions were some of the most flavorful in the game as a whole. "hehe look look, I'm gonna jump this guy if he thinks he can take my flower ... f***k he's five levels above..! Run run run run!". That moment you are minding your own business picking up mushrooms in barrens as a random dude runs past you with a herd of horse-people coming at him. and of course you got spooked, your reflexes got the better of you and you died as a result of it. however just afterwards you are greeted with a short and hearty "thanks bro" from the dude that ran past. You might have later seen him again and managed to get by your first dungeon together. Perhaps you meet him again, and again, or you became friends. companions even. soon you both were part of the same guild, adventuring together with others that also were just as silly. Logging onto wow wasn't a chore, it was adventure, friendships, passion. Through both thick and thin. I want to close with saying the only place I've seen similar passion is on RP servers, and honestly the reason I became into RP. I no longer trust Blizzard to be able to give me that sense of adventure, and I take it upon myself to create or find it myself with others of the same mindset. RP is very much like dungeons and dragons, you make the game you want to play, instead of waiting for Blizzard to give you what you want. I play on Argent Dawn (EU) Hit me up here or ig. my mains are: Rashaveer - Horde Wollfe - Alliance
Its like playing your fav game you played every day as a kid then one day your friend shows you the cheat codes and you got crazy for a couple days getting all the gear clearing all the levels all the gold then after a few days all the challenge has gone, the game no longer has the same appeal and you move on to the next.
@@outdoorsnevada4138 The problem is that you can play a single player game with or without the cheat codes, it's up to you and it only affects your experience. In a multiplayer environment if one or more uses those cheat codes it affects everyone's experience and not using them puts you at a clear disadvantage over the rest, so the existence and use of them gives you incentive to use them, as they've become so widespread that not doing so has turned it into handicapping yourself. Some people don't mind, but others do, and the temptation of skipping some stuff to have an edge over the rest of the people is always there.

I commented something similar on another video but I was just confused because normally no one really cares about the shit practices of a company. Shit like what Nestle does or popular clothing brands using sweatshops in foreign countries. Don't get me wrong it is still fucked up what they did to their employees but do people only care more because it is something happening in the US or because their products have also been shit? For me personally I stopped playing months ago because the content was stale and a balance patch my class desperately needed wasn't getting pushed until 9.1 with no date in sight so I quit altogether and I don't know if these allegations against Blizzard would have made me stop playing if I didn't hate the state of the game. I also find it hilarious that the company which condemned 2 people for unproven allegations by removing their content in the game want the benefit of the doubt when it happens to them.
@@vargasaurus1210 I guess people care because they are emotionally connected to the company and its games. obviously no one is emotionally connected to Nestle or Nike or some shit
Watching Madseason and Asmon whilst having potato salad has been my favorite thing to do for the past year, and I will continue to do so, no matter what sort of content they produce. It's about the person, not the game.

I'm pretty sure Bobby is gonna be cleaning out his desk soon.
I'mma be honest. I played WoW for like a week, about 2 years ago. I just never discovered it(which is kind of amazing). I have no attachment to the game. But, I did play a lot of other games. When Madseason's ending montage came up, I thought "this guy loved WoW like I love all the games that I do". And, even though I've basically never touched WoW, and even though I only discovered Madseason recently, I just find myself... Sad. Sad that he felt so defeated and so disappointed by this whole situation. Much love, everyone.
Boosting in FF14 is dumb if you are new tbh. FF14 is all about the journey and the adventures you experience before you reach endgame and thats so amazing about it. Im new myself(lvl 42 monk) but i already love the game. Every MMO i have ever played was all about endgame so its just a rush to reach the max level and thats what most MMO players know...

@@quekZo95 Yeah, I've played 14 since Heavensward, so I thankfully never had boosting be a real issue, especially since I played the game with a friend at the time. I feel the same way. I have so many cherished memories of when I first got into the game. And now my relationship with it is just soured because of how blizzard has just fucking ruined it.
It’s so depressing how something that became such a huge part of my life from the time I was 10 years old until now at 25 years old is seemingly crashing and burning so hard…
Im about the same age as you ,started playing at about 10 and I’m 23. God getting older sucks. I wish I could go back to that kid whose only thing on his mind was getting home to hop on wow with my friends. Having to watch a game/company that was such a big part of your childhood dying. It’s like a piece of my childhood has gone with it.
Asmon at the end of the video almost looked choked up from that, he has that passion and you can see he agrees with madseason and it’s hurt him where the game has gone also. I’ve never seen him lost for words like that before. So sad how things have become with that game 🙁
I just recently started the game again after years, it broke my heart not to find people to level up with. Then the lawsuit came... I really want to play since it was one of the only good memories I had with my dad but it's just not the same anymore.
You know it's really bad when I see people with mythic titles and mounts and I literally do not care. Back in BC, when I was wearing tier 6 people would just gather around me and inspect me for like an hour. I'd come back from an AFK with 20 people standing around me. Even in Wrath it was like that. Only 2 guilds on my server got Light of Dawn, and you were like a celebrity in Dalaran if people saw you with it. It really felt like an accomplishment to be raid geared and to clear content. Fast Forward to Legion, BFA, and SL...and nobody cares about your titles, your gear, or how good your guild is. I remember clearing all the Legion stuff on Mythic and nobody gave a shit. Raiding also stopped being a fun cooperative endeavor to kill a boss for the guild...it turned into nothing but people chasing parses. ALSO, I don't think it's right that mythic plus can give better gear than actual raids do. That is utter trash. Where's my incentive to suffer through the hardest difficulty of a raid when I could just run a 5 man and get a guaranteed piece of gear that's better than half the shit in the raid?
Before I started raiding in Vanilla, I would get constant compliments on my Magister set and other dungeon drops. It wasn't common for a mage to rock a full set back then. Hell, it was kinda rough to get groups as a dps unless you made a name for yourself on your server. I went from a guy staring at the gear of others to being that guy being stared at. I didn't do much in TBC, but WotLK was my raiding passion. It was so much fun raiding with my guild, I just wish everyone didn't quit when Cata started. We did everything, and we did everything with sarcasm and mockery, goddamn I miss those people.
If you believe unchanged classic is going to bring back those feelings, you're delusional. You felt that way when the game was fresh, it cannot happen again because everyone's perspective including yours has changed. Just look at classic wow. Tons of people with thunderfury and literally everyone in full tier 3, no one finds gear impressive anymore. Even the worst of the worst player with no gametime can buy a leveling boost and buy gear in gdkps while being afk.
@@foxmulder8955 I'm only playing in Classic now cuz retail offers literally nothing that interests me. But it doesn't work that way, games die because of the endless greed. There isn't any WoW killer since every single MMO these days is pay2win. The first solid MMO with subfee only, no cashshop at all and a sufficient GM team to deal with RMT will be "the WoW killer".

Meaning a new MMO after that has to figure out now just how to appeal to them and also to be good, but it must also figure out how to be appealing ENOUGH it overcomes their inertia to just stay with FFXIV.

as a person that joined wow in legion, I am sad to say I joined in the end of what was wow.

At this point i cant be inpressed by titles or mounts because there are so many i dont even know where its from or even what it is
Before I started raiding in Vanilla, I would get constant compliments on my Magister set and other dungeon drops.
Yeah, it's fucked up... When it's more fun to collect mounts, than actually doing the content.
It's also pretty fun trying to figure stuff out all over again from the base game before shit started getting changed and altered and perverted. Only thing really getting me right now is the acronyms being used now are different from before. Like N instead of reg for non-Heroics and the like. Don't think I'll ever figure out where the North Ramparts is.
Blizzard deserves everything they get for going NCSoft on their game.
"I want a new game that is good." This...so much this. I am so tired of the best games recently being remakes of old games. Where are all of the good, finished, playable, new games?
There are none since they Go for a quick Cashgrab with preorder. Stop preordering and force them to make good Games again
Because people buy and even pre order shit games over and over and they keep getting away with it.
