    Levelling is for me one of the best experiences in this kind of games.
    I love getting to experience new zones and quests and unlock new skills.
    The gear grinding at endgame becomes old very fast for me.

      im with you. I haven't enjoyed raiding much recently specially since people have only been running karazhan and they go in with very bad gear wich ends up going for 4 hours or more. I recently went back to questing and i decided to try min max as much as i can without breaking my bank. So im using enchants , food buffs, weapon buffs, elixirs , scrolls , potions and any nice reasonably priced gear i can buy off ah. I gotta say its a really nice lvling experience that I have never tried before and im really enjoying ( my own little raid).

      I really dislike leveling in most MMOs and leveling in classic is pretty high up there. I think the gameplay isn't very fun because you don't have access to a lot of skills and stats that change the experience drastically but I want to make it clear that boosts aren't the solution to this. If the game sucks then improve the game. I wonder why their solution wasn't to increase experience gain. I think Blizzard actually did improve because leveling in some of the expansions was much better and some other developers did an even better job at designing their game to offer a fun leveling experience.

      I know right? Levelling is my favourite part of anything new in WoW coming out, I'm the type that stays in zones I've outlevelled just to finish all the quests
      Edit: And I've genuinely never used any of my level boosts, I'd rather just get there myself. Shame I can't resell them to somebody that might use them

      It's the majority of the content for vanilla, and was the best part of the game for me. And was what a large portion of the players ever experienced. The exploration and discovery of the beautifully made WORLD of warcraft was a huge factor in why the community boomed and the game become so successful. The epic scale of the zones, the music, the look dev and style. A realization of the warcraft lore in 3d you could experience as a lowly adventurer.

  • @MrVeps1
    @MrVeps1 3 роки тому +30

    The problem with being able to pay for extra fast progress is that the developer will often balance and pace the game around the paid experience, squeezing more and more money out of players and making the mid-game a nuisance. You shouldn't want to skip levels 1-58 any more than you would want to skip from Goodsprings to Hoover Dam, or just skipping straight to fighting Hades in Hades. If boosting to the end is considered "skipping the boring part" instead of "gouging 96% of the game out", something is probably wrong. Consider Path of Exile, where the leveling is fast and frequent, and people level new characters to try new builds. The endgame is the big focus for many, but you can have loads of fun casually leveling a character through the story.

I think auction house flippers with "price fixing" hurt the economy way more than people who flood the market with cheap shit. And these people are real players, not botters.
      Furthermore:
      If i play my warrior, level him to 70, everythings fine. but whenhen my guild needs a holy priest, i can boost a priest and level it faster from 58-70. In my opinion thats helpfull.
      I dont get the negativity coming from the wow community, its such a toxic circle jerk its literally unbearable. "STORE TRANSMOG, FUCK YOU BLIZZARD" - then simply dont buy it FFS! Fucking Cancer Aids community, thats why i play retail because i dont have to listen to these stupid complaints in classic Trade chat all the time.
      Classic players are just salty sour grapes people, say they dont like retail but constantly talk about it. Seems butthurt to me, like when you get friendzoned by a hot chick and you tell yourself you dont want her anyway and how stupid she is and constantly talk about her.

One of the best experiences i miss from MMOs is seeing my investment in the game providing a return, on an equal playing field with other legitimate players, without microtransactions devaluing effort put in. If you dont have the time to invest in an MMO, then maybe it isnt for you. I say this as someone who only briefly played classic but was looking forward to tbc. Leveling makes you invested in your character, you see value as a result of your effort and so are invested in the game itself. Instead now all you see is a ton of people who you just assume bought boosts, because thats more likely than not the case. Now if you qctually play the game you are simply being less efficient. Yeah you could level a new character, but if you do you're just a chump for spending a couple weeks leveling instead of just working your day job for a couple hours to pay for a boost. Or if you literally cannot afford the boost, you just feel like a second class customer. The monotony and frustration a player feels when trying to acquire multiple maxed out characters is 100% by design. You are meant to get invested in a single character, and that's YOU in that game world. It was exceedingly rare back in the day for the average player to have even two max level characters.

    Let me take you back 10 years. You're a new player and you're in your game's capital city, dressed in whatever ragged items the quest rewards decided to hand out to you. There are a lot of max level characters around. You take your time to look at these characters, to get a sense of what end-game looks like through the gear they have. You see an item that is so much more powerful than anything you've seen so far, and it gets you excited. Fast forward, you're now also max level! You've made it to the place you looked up to a while ago. But, now there's another kind of people you look up to. It's those that have done the content at the hardest difficulty. The real "heroes" of your game. You look at their gear, titles and maybe achievements too, and you think to yourself: "someday I'll be that cool".
    Contrast this to now;
    The gear you see them wearing, you've probably also seen something similarly powerful in a dungeon drop (not numbers wise obviously). The gear you're picking up has an overlaying outfit so you also look cool, even as level 12.
    Now you're max level and you look at these people and you're not even sure if they actually did it or just bought the achievements.
    That's what "catering to the people with little time" have done to MMORPGs to me. It has destroyed all sense of wonder and accomplishment in the game.

      @@MikeTall88 speaking as someone who quit wow years ago and used to be a hardcore player (10+ hours a day back in middle school/ Hs) the same game design philosophy that created all the expansions we hated- cata, wod, bfa etc is the philosophy behind the level boost. The idea of making things more accessible has counter intuitively made blizzard less money because their previous core of gamers decided the game was no longer worth playing. Think about the player counts in vanilla, bc and wotlk vs cata, mop, and wod. Tf is the point of playing a game where 1/2 the experience is removed by a paid service? All it does is decrease the amount of time spent in game per player which leads to less attachment which is a death knell in a subscription based game. Blizzard catering to the “make it more accessible” crowd allowed for the creation of store mounts, dungeon and raid finder, and nearly every other problem that made this game unplayable and no longer fun. By your logic, why not add LFR to BC? It would make the raids more accessible. I don’t play WoW anymore because I have too many obligations to play it seriously, and because I don’t like playing games casually, but the casual experience in early wow was always an alternative experience to the hardcore raiders/pvpers, not a watered down parallel experience. In vanilla if you were a casual player you slowly got to 60 did a bunch of dungeons and never got past molten core, but that was fine because blizzard used to recognize it is more fulfilling to have multiple content paths for different kinds of players. The boost just puts casuals on a watered down and necessarily less fulfilling version of the hardcore path, which, at the end of the day, benefits nobody.

    I've always been of the opinion that the level boost should have been just that - an EXP boost that helps you progress faster, but still "forces" you to level in the areas they've made. This way the game still holds true to its roots while still respecting other player's time, should they need it - and also keeping towns and zones alive. This also means Blizz can still charge for such a service without hurting the spirit and the point of the game itself for the mass majority. Kinda like EXP boosts in Warframe.

    With this many comments I'm sure this one will get lost but leveling up through the game naturally and then having someone boost is such a slap in the face. Being proud that you were able to stick it out and make it max and invest the time, energy, and everything else is part of the fun. "I did this." is one of the biggest motivators. So, having someone come along and boost to that level feel so shitty. Even if it's exclusive to accounts that already have a character that's max level on classic servers, it still feels bad. When you look out over a sea of people and you don't know who did the work and who is boosted, then no one did the work.

    Here is how I see it. An MMO is largely character building. You level up your character, train skills, get gear and supplies and tackle challenges (whether it's dungeons, bosses, raids or something else), to get better loot (gear, recipes, supplies etc.), so you can tackle even higher tier of content and that cycle stacks on top of each other nicely, like a multi-tiered cake, until you reach some form of endgame.
    A character boost, in my opinion, completely shits on that concept. You pay some fee to skip a large part of the game, so you can arrive at the finish line without investing time. OK, but where is your cake? Exactly, you don't got one. At best, you have a single tirered cake, two if one is being generous in their assumption.
    My point is, by buying a character boost to reach the end game, you are essentially skipping that which makes an MMO, a MMO. It's not the relationships with people, the higher end content or anything else. It's making a character, starting from nothing and building it up and making said character a badass. That's what an MMO is all about at It's core. Why would you voluntarily skip all that?
    It's like if you started a narrative focused game and paid some money to skip to the end of it. What was the point of purchasing the game then? You saw the ending, but what about before it? What about the buildup, the tension? Did you understand it (the game and the story) or it's messages by skipping the whole thing and only seeing the end?
    That's how I view this situation. You just skip to the endgame and all you get from it is the fact that your wallet is lighter. Endgame content is not everything people, realise it. It's not the destination that is important, it's the journey. That cake building i talked about earlier.

    • @tonjoubasara5259
      @tonjoubasara5259 3 роки тому +1

      @@matous2542 Mate there isn't anything exclusive in the end game for you to want to buy a boost. Current vanilla max lv players will reach the new cap and go through the content in about 1 month, maybe 2 for the slower players. There is no rush to reach the end game, you will have access to endgame content no matter when you reach it. Also just because the boost isn't max lv that still doesn't make it ok, you still skip over half of the leveling experience without even entering 2 zones.

    • @kronkrian100
      @kronkrian100 3 роки тому

      @@matous2542 A major part of an MMO's meat and bone is PVM. While PvP has a pretty big role in MMO's, it takes a back seat to PVM'ing. Paying for the game, the monthy fees, the dlc's and the character boost to boost to near max just because you want to exclusively engage in high end PvP is in my opinion a very shallow, very selfish and very stupid reason to even engage in MMO's in the first place.
      If you genuinely want to do PVP, you can engage in games that have that as it's selling point. PvP is, more often than not, far from even being in the top 5 reasons to get into MMO's.
      Why are you talking if you don't even understand why people are angry? Did you even watch the video to try to understand? It's simple, If one can boost their character to near max, it devalues the grind, effort and time others have went and put into their character, because some random schmuck with a deep wallet can pay his way to near max level without going through any hardship and without putting any time into it. It's discouraging and disheartening. In my opinion, if those people you talk about want to experience the endgame, they ought to go through the same journey everyone else had to go through. That is true fairness - making the player adapt to the game, not the other way around. You should either grind like the rest of us or if you don't want to put the effort and time in, leave. If you can't put that time and effort for one reason or another than you also leave. It's tragic that you don't have time to spend, but a game developer shouldn't bend backwards and compromise on the game so as to accommodate someone who would rather skip a vast majority of it so that he can engage in the endgame content. Let's not even talk about how this opens the gates for more aggressive monetization.
      Let's not even talk about that, as I said, it's not the destination(endgame) that defines MMO's, it's the journey(leveling up and progression) you go through to reach it. Skipping huge part of it completely misses the point of MMO's.

      A counter to this would be that it's easy to say this singularly, but Blizzard likely receives, organizes, and executes thousands of these per day/week, which takes employees and time. Maybe it's a thing a GM can easily do, but it's not like someone is hitting up the GM and saying "hey can you transfer me? Here's $30." The request is processed by employees, verified, and pushed down to the people who make it happen. That means Blizzard is on the hook for that time and resources to make it happen, which means they have to pay employees to do those jobs (among other jobs), which costs money.

    I have the best fix for the boosting character issue. Make the boost locked behind a level achievement. WoW retail = level 50 on any char to unlock a level boost for another char. TBC classic = 1 char must reach level 58 to unlock the boost. The boost can be bought before the level is reached but not used until the level achievement on the account.

The player base was dying because leveling just sucked balls. So they improved it byremoving the level requirements for quest and allowing the player to pick and choose what they wanted to do. It did not come with a level boost though. That is the big difference. I always felt like the cosmetics being bought from blizzard, weren't really the end of the world. But now, the game is officially pay to win in retail. You legit can buy anything from blizzard now. I also feel like companies have done this for years. I remember getting ocarina of time collectors edition back in the day, getting stuff no one else had. But buying levels completely ruins the progression common to any rpg or mmorpg ever made.
      In classic, I think the Level boost was a bad thing overall, but it was 1 bad thing vs. thousands of bad things in retail. I also think that, to asmongolds credit, that people weren't exactly playing classic wow properly either. You had twitch streaming and all that shit that you didn't have back then. Min maxxers took it ten steps past what it already was. Like you better get to farming those world buffs and amazing trinkets if you want to be able to raid. Mage level boosting was rediculous to.
      Luckily in wrath classic, they nerfed xp gains when higher lvls are boosting party members. I also think that wrath classic made other good decisions, such as not having a dungeon finder, the first retail style feature ever added to the game. Not a fan of the level boost from blizzard or from third party websites of course, but they sure do have a lot of lazy wow players at that point, if you ask me. Because if it didn't work, they wouldn't do it. And madseason show might be right, that, in the future, every single cash shop service will be under the classic wow brand. But I am hoping he is wrong though.
      With cataclysm classic being talked about now, Blizzard needs to take a hard look at the game at this point. Because, unless they make some significant changes to the game, it won't really be classic wow anymore for me. Because it won't be good just with a lack of a dungeon finder. Things like homogenization of the classes, the removal of the old overworld, rpg elements being removed, such as ammo for hunters. The breath bar lasting longer. The classes being less complicated and the talent trees being less complicated and more streamlined and completely losing all the hybridity. Locking spells between each tree. Fire mages, only have fire spells. Frost mages only have frost spells. In wrath, you could pretty much use any spell in any spec you chose pretty much. Not having to buy weapon skills anymore, or go to a class trainer to train dual wield at level 20.
      All things that kind of sucked about cataclysm. I mean, it was fun at first, until they nerfed the fuck out of everything. Pandaria finished it off by adding another bad game design feature, in cross realm zones, removal of stat sticks for hunters, poison vials for rogues, and also made talent trees pretty much useless. 6 talent points is a pretty boring system.
      I think if they can fix all those problems in cataclysm classic and pandaria classic, then it shouldn't be to bad. But they cannot just release classic cataclysm, and just say it is the same game with no dungeon finder. All those things made cataclysm bad, and no one had to rely on mana anymore either. And adversity was gone for leveling to. They need to add that back also.

      World of warcraft also has alot of other issues that cause it's downfall and decrease in popularity. Age being one of the big ones. Nostalgia is so skewed now. People say all the time that wrath classic is nostalgic, along with bc and classic wow, and I completely disagree. But, pieces of content, entertainment, etc. It does not last long at all anymore. People get bored pretty quickly.
      Wow was going to have some speed hurdles going forward regardless of what they do, in keeping it alive, going forward.

    It’s kinda sad with the boost and mage powerleveling.
    The way we did it at the time when all our friends were playing WoW, was that once someone of us had a high lvl char, he would pull 4 other lowies through the dungeons, and then we did it the other way round. If we wanted, 5 people could do this and everyone could have every class on 60 in 2 weeks.
    Sad thing is if i wanted to to this today, it would be impossible, because no one i know plays anymore…

    I've noticed when using cheats in any game is enjoyable in a game because it gives you a new experience to enjoy. This can be fun for a short while but you get bored easily as your cheat plays the majority of game for you. What's even the point of getting the game if you don't play it yourself? I feel cheats are best after you finish playing it normally.
    The argument that some people don't have enough time to play the game I say as someone who also lacks time for some games, is dumb as hell. If you don't have time to play a video game that's life's way of telling you shouldn't be playing this game. This doesn't mean you can't play games. You just need to play the ones you do have time for.
    I don't play muti-player action games because it takes too much time to get good enough at the game, know the levels and tricks. If you don't do this then your pretty much a bullet magnet. Not fun at all. It's not because I can't get good because before I had to work for a living I rocked at these games. But now I just don't have the time.
    I do just fine in MMO's because you can actually play at your own pace. You may not be the first to try out the new content but as I don't have as much time as some others anyway it's better to die less by watching vids on new raids and run with experienced players that know what they're doing works better with my more limited time. On average beat them on the first run with minimal deaths and move on to collecting my loot. I don't have to be the Top Dog in the game to still enjoy it and I feel confident enough in my skills that I don't drag the other players down. I get a lot that do. I feel the main reason so many people hate boosters is because nothing is more frustrating than doing a run with a max level tank or healer in an easy dungeon that has no idea what they're doing at all bringing wipe after wipe. We've all been there. Or a level 70 tank with level 35 gear. AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!
    For all those who wish to boost. If you don't want grief for boosting then for heaven sake. Don't look like a booster by playing the game like you don't know wich end of the sword your holding to point towards the monsters. If no one can figure out your a booster then there will be no grief.
    I'll never boost myself because I find if you don't want to play a leveling game through leveling then your playing the wrong game. If you want a game you can play without a major time investment then I recommend sticking with cellphone games. They got you covered.

      That kind of depends on the cheat, there's a number of games where I cheat because without cheating I can't access much of the game because that's how the game is designed(it's supposed to be "you do things differently in different playthroughs", I get that, but I like having everything too much :D)

    The thing that gave me the go-ahead to grind like a no-life freak was the assumption that the grind would be respected. Do you really think I'd run Strath 32 times trying to get some bis gear to drop if I thought someone could pay money to get the same item instead? I absolutely would not.

    31:00 exactly.. you're still playing and still have to deal with dying to me on your way to the dungeon every time XD
