Not always true about seed. They may be getting better. I recently bought a small bag of Scott's Turf builder orange lable. I choose that particular one because it had no weed seeds on the label and only one variety bermuda which is "Golden glove" I did an experiment in a pot and I gotta say it is absolutely beautiful! Blade size is similar to 419. It is just as good maybe better than the Arden 15 "premium seed" I bought from hancock seed company last year. It also germinated in 7 days. $13 for a thousand square ft bag. Its in all the big box stores.

Over the past 3 years, I have tried and tried to fix my Zoysia lawn. I've bought different vendors' seed - all with ZERO results. This year, I'm doing something different - I'm starting my seed indoors in a starter tray. This way I KNOW the soil is right; I can water without breaking the bank, and see the results. When the grass reaches 3", I'll transplant the "plugs" into the yard where needed. Wish me good fortune.

Howdy Doc. I’ve been following and learning from your videos since last year. I’m in Austin, TX and our house community is Bermuda grass. I spent February and March pulling weeds from the root after a spray of Weed and Feed. I keep the lawn cut at about one inch. Yesterday the son of a neighbor came over and asked what company do I use to maintain our lawn. I told him I do it and he then asked if his father could pay me to do their lawn. 😂😂. I told him his father should pay him to do the family lawn. I showed him the products I use and the little tool I use to pull weeds by the roots. When I see his father I will let him know about your channel. Thanks for all the lessons. Carl in Texas.

Right on time Doc! About to plant zoysia and bermuda in the backyard in Louisiana to let them battle it out in the shade spots. Been tossing around this idea and you just confirmed it for me. Also confirmed the roots in the ground theory. I planted rye back in February for a temporary lawn and was worried i might have ruined a good shot at zoymuda. Guess my gut steered me right on that one.

Hello. Doc. I hope you're having a good day. I'm one of your new subscribers. Have been for probably a couple months now. I'm working own getting your information. And your calendar and the various products that you suggest. last year I planted Bermuda grass in my front yard. I done the research then and don't know why this happened. But nowhere did I see anyting about Yukon Bermuda grass. So I done exactly what you warned not to do. But I didn't know. I went and bought common Bermuda. I planted it in the fall and it came up. It has bare spots and plenty of weeds. I haven't put Annie pre-emergent on it. Because I was planning own overseeding it. But its spreading. I use a hand push reel mower and keep it cut at one inch. Oh and I have plenty of surface roots to mow around. Those The Roots give the yard some character. I'd like to level it. But I don't want to kill my trees. I used a hand hoe. And hoed the entire front yard up before I planted. And I lightly rake the seed in with a leaf rake. My property is shaded with huge trees. But I took a 12-foot tree pruner and went as high as I possibly could. To open it up and let the light in. Sorry to have been long-winded. But I was wondering. I do have roots in the ground. But you said the common Bermuda. If I understand you right. Can cause problems for years. so should I completely reset this. And put the good premuda in. And start it on your program. Oh and I'm a Georgia Boy up here in beautiful Dalton Georgia. doc. And I love it up here in these mountains.

Thanks Doc, you always give good information.
I had a neighbor in the western Chicago suburbs who use to go out and broadcast KY Bluegrass in February or March (of course depending on how much snow was on the ground). By May or June his lawn was always lush and green and the melting snow cover had watered in the grass seed. Looked crazy to seed your lawn I'm the middle of a Chicago winter but come June that craziness sure paid off. Plus he got the grass seed on clearance 🤣!!!
For my Tuscaloosa Bermuda lawn with every southern weed, I put down Evergreen potting soil in the bare clay areas and the grass seems to love it. Evergreen is an AL company who I love to support. Their potting soil mixture seems to be finely shredded mulch and NOT dried out soil like some potting soils.

I'm SE of knoxville and tired of battling in the summer heat to keep my tttf going. Really thinking of planting the yukon next year. I've also had a problem with dallisgrass, the "selective " herbicides for that stuff are wicked expensive and it still leaves huge bare spots all over the place. I need something will self heal. Front and both side yards get full sun all day. If you have any pics of video of established yukon I'd love to see them. AFAIK yukon did great in ntep trials and has the best cold temp survival rating! Thanks for a great vid doc!!!

@HowToWithDoc - I need some help, I’ve got a lawn with zoysia and annual rye - I’m in 7b/8 (right on the line in NC) so I I fully expect the rye to die in June - yard is in FULL sun. Since the zoysia was planted a year ago it’s not really as grown in as I’d like. Do I overseed a few lbs of zoysia seed or just wait??! Thanks so much for your advice!

Hey Doc, love your videos and thank you for the knowledge. I have a Zoysia lawn that was thinned from grubs last year. (Treated for grubs) I am trying to get my Zoysia to grow but moss has moved into the thin spots, there is a little shade in the area as well. Have you had any luck with removing moss in bare spots? Would re-seeding like in this video help with the bare spots? I should probably try some of the soil booster as well. Already aerated this year.

Hey Doc, I laid new Bermuda sod down on my front yard (pretty steep hill). Laid it down on the 15th of April and was considering seeding as well to fill any seams in. The sod has definitely started to take root with a 4x a day water schedule at 10 minutes using my irrigation system.
Should I wait a while longer before seeding? I remember you mentioning a window.

Doc I am panicking! I took over a neighbors lawn that was 99% weeds. I killed off all the weeds but now I don't know if there is enough Bermuda left to recover! (12 year old sod). They can't afford the Anderson gear so I am just gonna pound it with Milo now that the temps are 80+ and pray for rain! But at what point do I give up and throw some seed down? 😂

The main challenge in seeding is the issue with birds. I tried this couple of times and within a day or two all of them are gone. There's a pigeon like bird eat them all. No effective solution yet. Its hard to cover the entire area with nets.
