I'm in Oklahoma, I put out pre-emerge in September and again in the first of March. I also fertilize the same as you however there's one problem I dealt with last year and it looks like it's starting again this year. I'm getting a fungus. Intermixed green blades with yellowish. Last year the fungicide worked well but I must say I'm disappointed to see the same thing again this year. I keep a razor sharp lawnmower blade, catch my clippings and water often and it literally looks like deep green carpet with no dead spots. This next remark may set the BS meter off with some of you but I am growing zoysia in 100% shade in a lot of places. The only sunlight is indirect when the leaves are blowing and moving allowing sunlight to come through. It's not as thick and health as the grass in the sun but nevertheless it covers the ground well. Thank you for your video!
With fungus it's usually a moisture issue sometimes in early spring it's unavoidable with cool nights and rain. Most the time the grass will grow out of it when it heats up or you can spray. 100% zoysia can take some thick shade but it will be noticeably thinner.

Excellent point!
Our problem with zoysia is keeping it out of places we don’t want it. The stolons and rhizomes spread into all sidewalk cracks and all landscaped areas quickly.
Most grasses we can grow in the southeast United States do this. Bermuda, zoysia, Centipede, St Augustine.
I recently bought a house built in 1958 in upstate NY…. I had absolutely no familiarity with zoysia grass prior to the purchase… it is one of the “the most difficult” grasses to get rid of!! The house had one garden when purchased… I added 3 additional… and it’s a constant struggle to keep the is grass from entering my beds… it even grows under the railroad ties in one section of the garden… good luck to all those planning on using it… but beware… it is invasive!!
You have Zoysia that far North?!?!? It has a hard time in what we call transition zone, Virginia/Maryland area. Do you know what type of Zoysia? For me Bermuda runs way worse than Zoysia.
@@Dr.Warren …. Like I said earlier, I had never heard of it but a friend commented to me recently that there used to be commercials on tv about the benefits of growing this grass. There are a number of homes in my neighborhood that have the grass… you’ll hardly find a weed that grows in it but I literally have to use a saw to cut it back from my garden beds. The root system is like a fibrous mat … you could literally fall on the grass and not hurt yourself! 😉. It turns brown in the fall and spring but green in the summer.
From the maps I just reviewed it looks like it could be either Empire or Innovation zoysia grass.

I paid 325
Per pallet? It's been a minute since I made this video. Do I mention a price? Inflation over the past year has been brutal.
Just purchased 8 pallets of Cavalier Zoysia. $360 in South Carolina. August 2023
