- Bassist Jerry Jemmott is a musician’s musician. Over the past six decades, he has made an indellible contribution to the best and brightest in soul, R&B, funk, jazz, and blues. This excerpt is from a very special occasion promoted by Kid Andersen, Shakedancer Productions, and Greaseland Studios in San Jose CA. Performed at Little Lou’s BBQ in nearby Campbell CA on April 11, 2015. Jerry Jemmott bass, Derrick Martin drums, Kid Andersen guitar, Jim Pugh keys, J Hansen percussion, Eric Spaulding sax, Nancy Wright sax, Tom Poole trumpet.
Drums are fantastic. Drummers: listen to the groove. He is driving the train but not overbearing. The backbeat is a work of art. Look at his posture! He is dancing, but up and down. That won’t hurt you.
I agree its great, i think his playing is a little busy but its not overbearing at all bc his top priority is keeping the pocket
OMG! Where have I been? If I ever fall into a coma and you want to bring me back….Absolutely out of this world.
This was the beginning of a great relationship with some fantastic people. We've taken the Bronx Funk, to Greaseland recording several times, since this, with Chris Gill, Alabama Mike, Billy Price , Frank Bey and more to come. That's D'mar aka Derrick Martin jumping off of the skins., and Jim Pugh on the organ. Thanks for all of your good thoughts.
This is great, thanks for the music !
Thanks Jerry, I grew up watching the instructional video you did with Jaco over and over

That set could have been recorded on a 8 track mixer and would have been a hit in any era, such prestige on each instrument. #FunkythangzProd best radio station on social media!!!
Oh man how good is this! Jerry is the man.
GREAT Jerry the father of all basspalyers (y)
That was a fabulous show!

最高! GREAT!
1:15 Fantastic!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great to hear Jaco's line with Jerry's warm, buttery tone. Headphones- you can really feel the bass- crank it up loud. And the horn section in a club setting- great! And that funky drummer. Jerry always plays with the solid drum guys. Love Jerry's extended bass solo.
Jaco didn't write the bass line. It was a cover.
That’s not Jaco’s line. Original by Fred Wesley and Maceo of James Brown fame. Jaco burrowed the song please and the bassline. Check out the original please.
Love Jerry but this thumbs ups for the drummer around 5:10 mark (woaooow!)
I'm a DMar devotee also.
nice video! That is Tom Poole on trumpet - Jeff Lewis is a great trumpet player but was not in this video.
mpharpsax Thanks for the correction!
The drummer is the pocket
Wants attention!!!
カッコい!
Nice! Jerry and James Jamerson were two of my main influences and this was a fine funky band. If that wasn't Bernard Purdie on drums he sure played like him. I don't know what Bernard looks like but he was great! Where is this club? Thanks from the jazzman north of Boston. My last gig was in 91 so out of the loop now-sorry for the ignorance.
No, not Bernard.
TOM POOLE!!!!!
Ok legal nota 10
the alien
3:02 great touch on the guitar
Ah-Campbell, CA. It might help me if I read the description!
+NewHampshireBoy Hey, thanks for viewing and enjoying the clip. Actually, the South SF Bay area (i.e., Silicon Valley more or less) has become a mecca for this type of music-in particular mid-20th century blues and R&B-and loads of fantastic musicians live here, attracting other greats (like Jerry Jemmott) who pass through and mix it up regularly!
3:33
Is that jimmy Pugh on organ?
It is!
thanks John. Pugh's been a bad mofo a long time - I remember The Vanilla Gorilla
mention SPECIAL au batteur!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always the same.
okay who is this drummer and why is he doing aerobics?
Derrick Martin, AKA D'Mar Music Online. He cut off all his hair, but he can still jump!
Lmao! Jerry and I went to the same High School..and shared mutual friends..it's a small world once you get out there..Good drummer just insane.. must be a restless sort of guy, the kind who can't sit still..lol
Hey Jerry
You could have at least given a shoutout to Jaco Pastorius, it is his song. The man idolized you growing up, you interviewed him in Jaco Pastorius Modern Electric Bass.
Jerry dedicated this tune to Jaco, and talked about their long standing friendship before he played the tune. Pee Wee Ellis wrote the tune, not Jaco, but Jaco and Jerry used to jam on it all the time, and of course, it is closely associated with Jaco. Perhaps to explain, i should inform you that this is a video of one song form a whole evening of music and talking. The band didn't just materialize out of nowhere at the time this video starts. There was lots of music and talking both before and after. Including several nods to Jerry's friend Jaco Pastorius, with whom he shared a mutual admiration. To assume that Jerry would leave that out, just because the video starts right after all that, seems odd to me.
@@KidAndersen In what clip does he dedicate this tune to Jaco?
How would anyone know what was said if it wasn't recorded, to assume that people would know this is just asinine. Instead of being a pompous asshole, try not to be a pompous asshole.
Does that seem odd to you?
Not Pastorius... trash
