Damn, damn, damn!!! This is why I love UA-cam so much. We get to see these gems years after these beautiful performances were made. Rest in Peace King and Queen. They don't make 'em like this any more.
like willie weeks , johnny b gayden paul jackson ( and hungry like scott Lafaro ) - u my fave bro - check out my friend on his youtube - this guy is multi inst - hammond / sax / bass --- swear you'll luv his offerings friend me on facebook - much gud stuf there - I just drum good -hehe
They called him King Curtis for a reason. Rest in Eternal Peace, brother! Thank you for the legacy and the music you left us. Thank you, King Curtis. ❤️🎷🙏😎🎸
Jerry, I know you already know this but you are part of the greatest night in the history of music recorded in early March 1971 at the Fillmore West with two amazing albums. To have you, Cornell and Bernard on the same stage as Aretha, Ray Charles, Billy Preston, King Curtis and the Memphis Horns, tell me a better band. You're a living legend
I was there with Keith Knudsen and Philip Wilson behind the curtain and later behind the Hammond!!By far the greatest Show I ever saw!!King Curtis conducting…Great Indeed!!
ReRe could have sung the Blues as well as played the Blues on Keys with brilliance and soulful energy. Here was King Curtis hitting those Altissimo Out-of-range High Notes with the ease of "a bolt from the blue" - 1971, eh! In this regard therefore, the King begot, among others: Grover Washington, Jr. Ernie Watts Michael Brecker David Sanborn Marc Russo Gerald Albright Nelson Rangell... Big sister Erna - "Take A Little Piece Of My Heart" - and little sister Carol were just as fabulous as middle sister Aretha. RIP, loved ones! Lohvissimo!
Well ive got to admit after having grew up with Arethas music ide thought ide heard al her stuff but this was what real music is to me exciting moving and so up lifting muchas gracias for posting amigos
When R&B legend Otis Redding, who wrote and first recorded “Respect,” heard Aretha Franklin’s version of the song, he reportedly said, “well, I guess it’s that girl’s song now.”
The beginning when Aretha asks "how long is King gonna be on for?" while King Curtis and the band are playing their sublime version of Whiter Shade of Pale.
One HECK of a Band and BGVs! 🔥👌🏿 There's nothing much more that can be said about Aretha Franklin. 🖤 Thank you so much for the video. Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
That’s some GOD DAMN BASS GUITAR. Earned his spot in AF’s band. Owned his spot. Also Bernard Purdie!!!! Props to Cornell Dupree. Atlantic. Will never be recreated, remotely, ain’t even near/close/within proximity. Distant. JERRRY JEMMOT!!!!!
Does anyone know if there is a video of King Curtis's band that was on just before this concert? It was the "warmup band" but to me it was the best part of the show!
What the hell happened to music? All,the beautiful humanity and emotion is gone replaced by money making formulas and gimmicks. Just another example of the decline of our society
Thanks to Duane Allman for talking about King Curtis on an Allman Brothers live recording in 1971.... hes a new discovery for me.... wow, what amazing talent, what a band.
I got to meet her, briefly, during her appearance at Essence Fest. Imagine meeting the woman of your dreams and finding out that she's the sweetest woman that you've ever had the pleasure to have met. I will never forget how down to earth and real she was.... I would have moved mountains for her.
Wow , Aretha had wings and was soaring, the King kept the beat, and the Sweet Inspirations were so sweet. Thank you Harry for giving us back such a wonderful moment.
Damn, damn, damn!!! This is why I love UA-cam so much. We get to see these gems years after these beautiful performances were made. Rest in Peace King and Queen. They don't make 'em like this any more.
Her great piano playing is often overlooked. It was pure gospel.
Seriously, I've never heard her playing, at least not like this. Really great playing!
My Love for SOUL MUSIC LED ME TO THESE GEMS.
100% saw her 2 or 3 times live, once at The Latin Casino Cherry Hill NJ, Roxy Theater Los Angeles and another at a theater on Wilshire, once at IHOP !
Like Magic; in a bottle! Oh what a night. Thank you, Harry.
Thank you Mr. J for being a part of it and for everything else you've done. Inspiration to musicians worldwide.
One of THE Finest voices 😍👀💃

Aretha deserved the best. Best band, best audience.
Amazing Aretha Great back up band.😊😊
To me the greatest female performer ever. She's got something there in her throat that brings chills to my whole body
Top musicians we were blessed to witness.😊
Pretty Purdie on drums adds so much soul
Stunned by the bass playing ..the band are brilliance..then there's Aretha...the next level.
Wish I could like this video a thousand times.
Wow. Aretha was a sight to behold.. will always miss her
Yes, and when this era was happening, she was on the radio all of the time. It was a great time to witness soul music at its best.
She was awesome on piano as well.
Sweet inspirations Wow 😅Church on Sunday morning !!!
I can’t believe she was ripping cigs and singing like that. Wild.
Didn't affect her performance.
Thanks for posting this. It's magical.
Jerry really feeling himself on the bass. One of my favorite bass players alive!
Who is playing bass?

One of the great shows on UA-cam is a James Brown special featuring Aretha and Wilson Pickett, with Joe Cocker singing When a Man Loves a Woman
ReRe could have sung the Blues as well as played the Blues on Keys with brilliance and soulful energy.

All the way soul! Queen is soulfully beautiful.
How good 💯 is that.❤
The beginning when Aretha asks "how long is King gonna be on for?" while King Curtis and the band are playing their sublime version of Whiter Shade of Pale.
RIP queen of soul.
Holy mackerel. She's the bomb.

I agree with my assessment.
Real pros. I wish I could have been there that night.
Nothing better than Aretha

What a great era for music. Funny to see the Queen casually smoking before the show. Sad that King Curtis would be murdered a couple of. months later.
Thank you, friend!

Does anyone know if there is a video of King Curtis's band that was on just before this concert? It was the "warmup band" but to me it was the best part of the show!

Check out Champion Jack Dupree & King Curtis live at the Montreux Jazz Festival on You Tube. Aretha is in the Audience watching .
This one never phoned it in
Where's the rest of the fucking show?
What the hell happened to music? All,the beautiful humanity and emotion is gone replaced by money making formulas and gimmicks. Just another example of the decline of our society
Sad statement. I wish it wasn’t so accurate. There’s still beautiful music though, just not on mainstream radio or TV.
Only one dislike.
All those who disliked this gem are retarded

Thanks to Duane Allman for talking about King Curtis on an Allman Brothers live recording in 1971.... hes a new discovery for me.... wow, what amazing talent, what a band.
Aretha sang "Never Grow Old" at King Curtis' funeral in 1971. I bet she raised the hairs on all those in mourning that day!
THE BASS! THE BASS! I'm dyin' here!
I got to meet her, briefly, during her appearance at Essence Fest. Imagine meeting the woman of your dreams and finding out that she's the sweetest woman that you've ever had the pleasure to have met. I will never forget how down to earth and real she was.... I would have moved mountains for her.
Wow! The Greats all together in one room.....AWESOME!!! Missing Aretha and King Curtis!
Aretha and the bass player need to get room. they doing there thing right in front of everybody playing Natural Woman, What a Show!!!
Aretha and the bass player are front and center, with her sweet inspirations right there. That's an amazing band behind her people. But she is the 🌟
No doubt!! Everyone knows she's the star. There will never be another like her.
Wow , Aretha had wings and was soaring, the King kept the beat, and the Sweet Inspirations were so sweet. Thank you Harry for giving us back such a wonderful moment.

Aretha may be the greatest female vocal ever. Name one better
