I was BRUTALLY beaten over and OVER again as a little boy by my father and for many years after.
    After those beatings
I would be in my room all welted up, bleeding and crying.
I would listen to America on the radio and these songs took me away in my mind to a place where there was no more pain.
I am so very thankful for this video.
Watching this brought me to tears thinking back to those very hard times in my life, and it is healing at the same time.
I have since learned how to play some of these songs on guitar and it makes me somehow claim them for their comfort that they brought me then and now.
Once again THANK YOU for this video.

I wouldnt say "underrated". Back in the 70s/early 80s they were extremely popular and got a ton of radio play. The fact that they are still touring tells me that they have a nice sized fan base. Not everyone has the taste for this style music (soft rock, I will call it), and those of us that do enjoy this music do not necessarily enjoy the so called "music" of today. I truly have been blessed to be able to experience the music of the 70's/early 80s as it happened.

The Laurel Canyon gang is all together. If I could go back in time and live anywhere in America during the late 60s and early 70s I would want my parents to move to Laurel Canyon. I’m an 80s kid and a genXer but since i was born in the early 70s i caught just enough of the 70s to love both 70s and 80s music i’ve always loved america and have always had a bit of a crush on gerry 😍 most of their music takes me back to my 70s childhood there’s something so wistfully sad about ventura highway and sister goldenhair surprise that puts a lump in my throat - the early 70s music was the singer/songwriter era and much of the pop music was very much of a simpler time and place

No reason to vote dislike except to be a hater. So many different people/ groups made so many styles of music in the 60s 70s 80s, listen to what you like and leave the rest. If you didn't realize it, no one cares if you didn't like it, just move on to what you like, leave the rest. So many varieties, make it your juke box, put in your money and play what you like, you're making the mistake of listening to stuff you don't like, you made the choice to listen to what you don't like. The responsibility lies with you making that choice. Why do that to yourself? Just like purchasing, in those days the LP, don't like it, don't buy it. Why subject yourself to something you don't like?
Sorry, just my 2¢. Go listen to what you DO like, there's so much more out there, go get it!

    • @thomasmleahy6218
      @thomasmleahy6218 2 роки тому +1

There's so much more out there. Classical warhorses and individual composers, who really showed us powerful, venue shaking power without amps. Many favorite composers and their individual works of complexity, and simplicity, less can be more, voiced in architecture and music ( thanks Sam Telling aka Tom Gillette). 40s 50s 60s Jazz styles, Coletrane, both Adderlys, Mingus, Hawkins, Terry, the members of the fantastic big bands of Ellington, Fatha Hines, King Oliver, Armstrong, so many great Pianists, sax, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, through to the cross pollinated modern Jazz Practicioners, Jalmal, from the Jazz @ the Penthouses LP still love along with many others of his and others, our modern trumpeter and mentor Wynton Marsalis and family way too many others who've toiled in those fields, up the modern day. Just my favorite Classical and Jazz performances I could never be able to listen to in 1, or even 2 days. Too many favorites. And all that leaves out early 50s rock and roll, those old 45s, one hit wonders up through the pop hits from Motown, Beatles, Prog rock, 60s, 70s, 80s Country+Western, Bluegrass, and the many combinations of those genres. Chet Atkins, Roy Orbison, Willy, Waylon, Cash (several), the Highwaymen, Wilburys, both Merles, Owens, Reeves, Marty Stuart ( has he still got Clarence White's B Bender?) Tritt, Yoakam, Twitty, Reba, Dolly, K. Rogers, Loretta, Jones, Will, Krauss, Campbell, the incomperable Giddens, barefoot pickin' it @ the Kennedy Honors and totally killin' it, so fine.
Just stopping there, I've got more than a week's work, at least, because thru genres, there were way too many to name, but if you read it, you've got more than an inkling, and who knows what I might hear today, Dr K. or Terry Miles, professional boogie Woogie piano bashers extrordinaire. Allie Sherlock, Elsie Miles and more.
Go and see Ladyva and Dr. K. Playing @ St.Pancras on a public piano (slightly out of tune) NOW!! GO!!

But, Gerry and Dewey still look fantastic!! In My other comment I mentioned that They both still have hair!! Not many of the "Great Classic Artist" don't have any anymore!! To name a few, James Taylor, Phil Collins, but, Elton John and David Bowie still have/had a full head of hair even at 69-70!! Can't believe how fast time flies! But the "Memories" are still very fresh in My mind. I'm truly a "Classic Rock" Fan!! Several of the "Guests" still sound fantastic! (less hair but, I'm not looking!) I'm loving This Concert Video!! Agreed. Producer George Martin saw their talent. Believe me, he wouldn't have got involved if not. I miss Dan Peek. In a similar way to George Harrison, he found the Lord.
As did Cat Stevens, now Yusef Islam.
In America's more recent touring days, they have been joined by Christopher Cross.
Another singer/guitarist genius. Need I say more.
