With tears in my eyes I write this....as a teenager in the 70's I remember how much of a crush I had on Karen Carpenter. I thought and still think she is one of the most beautiful women i have ever seen or heard. No yelling, or filters in her music...so lovely, so pure. The voice of an angel...I love you and miss you forever....

I work in the music industry and I can truly say that it is not a myth, she was incredible. Even the most talented singers have a hard time singing slowly and softly but that was where she was at her strongest. She was a recording engineer's dream. Her pitch was always absolutely spot on. Her tone was absolute beauty and she put passion behind every word she sang. And a huge kudos to her brother and the incredible band.

I'd often see Richard & his family there in a big curved booth quietly having dinner, too. I'd nod & smile, but I never intruded on their family time. @@tammielawrence1214 I agree with you. Her voice has always been hauntingly beautiful, as was she. Such a troubled lady thanks to the producers who told her she was too fat for tv at 115 lbs. From what I understand, she didn't get anorexia until they told her she needed to lose weight. I cry nearly every time I hear her songs. My mom loved her voice and their show too, and we were hooked (even though I was 6 yrs old). We just had to watch them every week no matter what! Her voice is smooth as melted butter. Richard's talent writing and playing all those songs is just incredible. They really were a dynamic duo. So glad she found out she could sing as well as play drums! Rest in peace, Karen.

The negative influences of this world are designed to make our heart sick through emotional & physical pain resulting in a given person turning to music as one source of comfort to the body. The painful realty of this existence gives rise to the birth of music in two forms, earthly & HEAVENLY. Earthly music speaks to the experiences of this world through the singer-song writer’s eyes. Oftentimes drug use (i.e. alcohol, smokes, marijuana, cocaine, opioids, benzos and propofol to name a few) is intertwined with the survival of an artist to deal with the pressure of performing in order to stay relevant in the music industry, and to serve as fuel for creativity. As a result, music celebrities develop a tendency to sin against their body, through excessive drug use, for not measuring up to or to satisfy the demands of their music. Any earthly joy they experience is darkened by the heavy burden of performing and the loss of privacy.
The end users of their music become fans because the lyrics are relatable and the sound of the singer’s voice & rhythm helps them cope with the pains of this reality. Unfortunately, this band aid approach is only a time out from the hurt and in the meantime we are fortifying its wall with painful memories waiting in line. Who can save us from wounds that are silent, wordless and cruel all the while tearing us apart inch by inch on the inside, which could radically accelerate the demise of the human body? I will use caps as emphasis to show the honest reverence for GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY when writing about HEAVENLY music in the paragraphs below.
That INVINCIBLE DIVINE be our HEAVENLY FATHER, WHO THROUGH HIS SON’S MISSION HAS INSPIRED believers to write songs that sing of HIS LIFE GIVING LOVE to deal with emotional & physical pain, economic instability, mortality and the emotional instability of others with the motive of winning over souls for HIS KINGDOM. The melody & theme of HEAVENLY music is hateful and intolerable to the devil, a spirit which causes us to be blinded of the effects of sin and is responsible for the woes of this world such as melancholy, anguish, tribulation and trial. These agitations of the soul create a heavy burden for the lost and could lead him or her to be hostile of songs that sing about GOD’S GLORY. This makes it clear that we cannot win the spiritual battle by our own strength. Moreover, on earth the devil has no equal.
GOD has provided us with the ONE WHO CAN AND WILL LIFT the heavy burden of sin's guilt from a given sinner's heart if he or she (through faith) would open their understanding to Psalms (starting with the focus on Psalms 51:1-10 KJV), and hymns/songs giving praise to HIM for the purpose of being persuaded, converted and healed by the HOLY SPIRIT from within by transforming your body/temple into a meeting place for you and the KING OF THE AGES to commune as friends through the born again experience (repentance manifesting itself in a changed life). It is only here that the fears of tomorrow will diminish, the blessed assurance is given that you are HIS and HE LIVES. Once the blessed assurance is known in prayer (through the confession of wanting salvation from one’s sinful nature, combine with admitting that JESUS CHRIST is LORD and believing in one’s heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead to deliver us from sin's guilt) the world can never take it away because the world didn’t give it to you.

@@kevinpowers8255 I used 10 as a round number, as there were a few singers from days gone by whom we tend to forget, such as Nana Mouskouri, Mama Cass Elliot and Shirley Bassey. Currently, there are singers like 'Aurora', with her exceptionally pure and crystal clear vocals. Watch this if you are not familiar with her: ua-cam.com/video/GPTY6l_PX5k/v-deo.html Her voice is truly stunning! I agree though, Karen is probably in the top 3 or so, hence me saying 'easily' in the top 10. Stay well!

She may need Spine surgery. Gosh I hope not!!!!!! I was Also Anorexic and Bulimic for 30 years and I finally overcame it about 12 years ago. I now eat one good meal a day. I also eat a Cliff Bar or Granola bar after I eat my dinner. Sometimes a banana. I try. I'm probably a little overweight now. My Youngest Daughter and Youngest Child passed away 7 months ago from Fentanyl overdose. I'm crushed. Now tomorrow I'm going my Second Born Daughter who was in the bad car accident on Thursday. Notice how smooth her intro into the song; as if she had already been singing and simply effortlessly continued on. She was a singer's singer and had one of the most beautiful voices ever.

That's the only performance I've seen where she appeared to have a lot of joy in her eyes. That was an amazing concert.

You have to watch the 1974 concert in Japan then. She seemed a lot more healthy and happy then.

Her voice is hypnotic, and just draws you in like a magnet. The band is damn good too. And yes we know Richard was the brains behind this conglomeration.

Here I am, listening to those absolutely gorgeous songs, thinking of how much we have taken for granted through our youth. I am grateful, so very much, to have been given the chance to study in the States and learn such a beautiful and poetic language! I miss those times, back in the 70's, miss the Carpenters and so much more! They were unbeatable! Glorious times! Thank you God!

Every time I watch them I break down and cry. They've always done that to me. There's just something about them that speaks to the heart in a way that few ever do. I appreciate them so much. The Carpenters added so much to our music world. Words cannot say how much.

Karens drumming skills and vocal abilities will always be incredible, but Rchards' abilities on that piano were just amazing. They really are the perfect duo. Their music legacy will live on in the hearts of all who enjoy their music. ❤️
Their will never be another Richard and Karen Carpenter. For those of us who grew up in the 70s, we truly experienced the best of the best. The music in that era of time was unforgettable. Nothing can ever compare.
