The Sophtware Slump is one of the most amazing and beautiful albums ever made - predicted the future too
almost as good as ‘Under The Western Freeway!’
Agreed
fr
I'm a "SUMDAY" kinda dude.
All three are great and I still listen to them regularly!
Jason's voice has the ability to reduce a grown man to tears.
Underneath the Weeping Willow makes me cry like a baby 😭
True
I remember reading an interview with Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse where he said Grandaddy was his favorite band. Can definitely sense the influence.
Jason was definitely influenced by Mark. "Vivadixie" came out two years before the first Grandaddy record.
In 2019 I saw Jason play the whole of Sophtware Slump solo on a grand piano in an old chapel in Cardiff, Wales. It was amazing....cool person and great picks.
I clicked so fast… god Grandaddy is an underrated band
What a treat! Jason is an underrated genius.
what a woke out of touch grandaddy!
Unsurpirsingly great taste from an incredible songwriter.
Grandaddy was my go-to listening mix for all of college and I created some great memories while listening to them, and I still listen to them regularly to this day ! Jason is also a total sweetheart with great music tastes
I dont care what the man chooses, i´ve already liked the video
Thumbs up for aha and talk talk shouts. Colour of Spring has leapt into my top 10 all time records all time in last two years. Beauty👍
I love Grandaddy! We need more Grandaddy!! Bring it on!!
I remember my older sister downloading some grandaddy songs on Napster in the early 2000s. I was in a little garage band, and we usually spent Friday nights just listening to new music together before jamming. I ripped a cd with The Crystal Lake on it and played it for my buddies. I can still remember the smiles of bemused glee that spread across their faces when the synth came in. it's so wonderful to see people genuinely enjoy something unique and special in music.
Life is strange sometimes. Here I am, listening to The Sophtware Slump for the first time in years, then the algorithm sends me this.
Don't give in 2000 man...
Finally, Jason Lytle grows into his band name
Awesome. I love Jason and Grandaddy so much, hope they eventually tour again. I almost got to see them, but then Kevin passed. 💔
Watching this while The Colour Of Spring is currently in my car's CD player, thank you Jason for the music & sharing your love of Talk Talk 🧡
Thank you for this, so down to earth but also brings us so above earth. Thank you Jason for your humility and brilliance! A-ha!!
The Colour Of Spring hits on another level. Great pick!
The Colour of Spring, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock has to be one of the finest three consecutive albums by any band, ever. And despite the other two being absolute masterpieces, it’s The Colour of Spring that I head back to most. It may be nostalgia.
Recommended listening to anybody who hasn’t heard those works of genius.
@@TheDiamond2009Only know Talk Talk's pop stuff, so based on Jason's rec, I think i'll give those albums a listen. Grandaddy forever.
@tramparse84 Certainly give them a listen, it’s an absolute must in my view. Start with The Colour of Spring and then work through the two that followed, appreciate their progression, how they moved from synth-pop to something quite extraordinary, and still as fresh today as it was back then.
It’s a journey, and I hope you’re rewarded.
@@TheDiamond2009 I also highly recommend the album "Hex" by Bark Psychosis. Should appeal to those who love those last three Talk Talk albums.
@fx93250 Many thanks, squire, I’ll check that out.
Jason seems like such a nice person. This was a good watch!
He is, I met him and he is super friendly.
grandaddy are my all time favourite band. so cool that jason did one of these!
Bill Brysons A Walk in the Woods is a classic! Highly recommend for any hikers or nature lovers. Funny as hell
really cool he shouted out john cardiel!! big influence on skateboarding as a whole. jason is rad
I haven't ever heard of this band Grandaddy.but the song they were playing i really and like .And so went Spotify on phone and like what i was hearing i love find cool bands that i never knew or heard about .And maybe im crazy jason lytle sounds like the singer for Death Cab for Cutie
Articulate, passionate dude. Loved his anecdotes and opinions.
I could listen to him tell stories all day, that talk talk story was neat
I love the sound clips amoeba chooses for these vids.
One of the several reasons why I subscribed and continue to enjoy.
Thanks for the Cardial footage.
So happy to see this!! Sophtware Slump is one of my all time favorites!
Earthbound pic?
A-ha is no guilty pleasure. Great stuff. And Talk Talk, with an amazing record and the best album cover of all time. imo
A-Ha is the shit and they are still making great music.
I LOVE GRANDADDY WTF
Love Grandaddy!!!!
This is the first WIMB I've seen where the person picks more books than music. But... he picked Colour of Spring! Fantastic album by one of my favorite bands. Their progression as artists is one of the most drastic I've ever heard, and they just kept getting better.
To Jason's point about their impact, Spirit of Eden is often considered the prototype of the post-rock movement. I remember listening to it when it came out and being somewhat disappointed when I wasn't hearing traditional pop song structures, but half way through the album, I just turned the lights down and let it wash over me. It was magical. Just a brilliant, emotional collection of music that truly moved me. If you haven't heard it, give it a listen, but _really_ give it a listen -- it's not a singles album.
Bill Bryson books are pretty hilarious, all of the ones he published about his time living in the UK are fantastic.
Love all his 80's record picks. A-Ha is waaaaay better than people are recalling from the 80's and their 2022 record True North is an impressive one. Talk Talk of course are legends and one can easily see why Jason counts them as an influence. And of course Bad Brains, one of the most ferocious genre-crossing bands of their time.
I dig A-HA too!
Morrissey and Marr were A Hah fand then too
Nice Cardiel shout out.
Thanks for posting
Just by observing the way he comes across, you can really see the way his personality manifests in the music he makes.
Was stoked to be able to watch this dude play records with Tommy G at Little HIll Lounge a couple of times before I moved away from the East Bay. Excellent taste in tunes.
Love Jason and Grandaddy
love you, Jason! hope you're doing well.
so good!!!!
so good ...talk talk yeah baby
This was a good one
Reminds me of when I took a trip to LA and visited Amoeba Hollywood, and bought two Grandaddy EPs on CD! As the man himself said, "to discover a bunch of songs that you never heard by your favourite band is pretty cool"
I played the heck out of Sumday when it came out, interested to hear the new album next month.
Talk Talk the best band ever.
+1 for Talk Talk
One of the best bands ever
Cool, cool, cool!
Gah, still so cool. Thanks jason.
What a lovely guy Jason is
He’s going to be swimming in that Bad Brains t-shirt
Best What's In My Bag? yet!
Love Grandaddy their big in my book
In my opinion Granddaddy is the greatest not very well known band. I wouldn’t have even known about the but for Tower records and how they used to have listening stations. Kids today are really missing out.
Cool to get Jason doing this. He’s not into self promotion at all.
NICE
I like Talk Talk, one of the best groups of the 1980s. I had the Spirit of Eden on vinyl back then.
The Colour of Spring (and the album before it too It’s My Life) are the two most timeless sounding albums of the 80s.
Then Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are on a whole other plane in how they influenced post rock.
One of the best bands of all time and I don’t mean that lightly.
Finally starting to look like what they go by.
Im impressed with his choses lol
ALL HAIL!
“Nameless suburban town” Modesto, Turlock, Denair, Atwater, Merced
Been a while since I saw a video of him, he looks like ana actual Grandaddy nowdays.
When’s this guy do another album. His previous solo stuff is brilliant.
ua-cam.com/video/UZxvjMPZeZE/v-deo.htmlsi=k7NmEY5LQ9zLQxw4
He whould probably like some of Alex gs stuff like “hollow” or something else
Ok, I can actually hear the a-ha influence in Grandaddy now that he mentions it.
Grandaddy looking like a Grandaddy.
Hey Amoeba! Get the "girl math metal" band TRICOT into your store!! Love, Grandaddy.
The Crystal Lake. Takk.
Horror fans loves Grandady without even know him
Great to find out he's a A-Ha fan.
I wonder if they get a budget where they can grab what they want without paying for doing the video?
Jason the humanoid
Jason will you be my Grandaddy?
He sounds like the noggin narrator
I’m guessing some ELO stuff. We shall see
Books, all that great music and you choose books
All due respect but you buy a book on the crash of the record industry when you’re in the greatest record store and you buy 3 books , a t shirt and two releases from the 80’s. I laughed.
😴😴😴😴😴
Those googles😂

Love Granddaddy so much - the only band to really speak to me about how I grew up in California without all that socal or sf 60’s baggage. ❤
Wow two music picks. Don't try too hard. Not like there's lots to choose from at Amoeba.
Abha, your joking right! No wonder I have never heard of you, & these kinda sad music choices certainly do not get me curious about your music, in fact I would skip past as fast as poss!☺️
Nameless? Modesto, Ca.... make California Cooler beer again!
Just by observing the way he comes across, you can really see the way his personality manifests in the music he makes.
