I grew up in Modesto. The idea that anything creative or inspiring can com from there kinda blows my mind. This town feels like a spot that would produce lots of nu-metal or something. But, Im realizing, there were people living interesting creative lives that produced meaningful stuff the whole world cared about and I was there just dreaming to leave so I could get involved with art. I had no idea these guys existed while I was growing up. Such a weird feeling seeing mchenry ave being shown in a documentary that I actually want to watch haha
"Remember that time I caught that Magnavox TV, 22 inch?"
-"What a score that was"
my first grandaddy album, first heard you on a late night radio station over in ireland that played indy/alternative. legends
I first saw Grandaddy open for Elliott Smith in Tempe, AZ in 2000. I didn't know anything about them going in, but I was interested enough in their music to buy a CD. The Sophtware Slump CD case came with little broken pieces off of circuit boards and tiny leaves in that little plastic area on the side when you open it. It was a pretty perfect encapsulation of the record. I also remember they gave away some keychains and this pamphlet that included their favorite recipe for salsa. Homespun to the max. I love their aesthetic both musically and lyrically and as a group of people.
I would’ve absolutely loved that concert, i love Elliott Smith and my favorite band of all time since i was 9 has been Grandaddy and it will remain that way. Never knew they played in the same show
@@AnimatedKadenMusicAndCartoons theres a video of elliot smith singing he's simple he's dumb he's the pilot with the band
For Christmas I want Grandaddy and the real Midlake to come back.
they’re back brother
Won't be long now - 28th March 2017 Manchester UK...........can't wait!!!!!!!!!!
Oh they played Manchester then? I was in Manchester at that weekend for the Transformer music event at the Victoria Warehouse. Used to be a student in Manc 15 years ago, good to go back. Like a month after this gig you saw Kevin Garcia died, fucking sucks, guess they not gonna be touring again then :(
They were so good.
So cool to know that my favorite band lives in my hometown
"You know how much it is to camp here?" (In front of the goddamn double tree) "30$? There's a spot behind 711 for 15$!
We need more home videos! (well I do, I'm greedy.)
I agree with Brandon Kersey!
That fountain is gone now :(
@theyearofourlordig88 Same here

Not available on mobile..... Wah wah....
rad . 10yrs ago it wasn't on mobile 😆
omgg whats the first song
This video is pretty haunting
Why?
@@Watmelon1I’m right there with you. Why is it haunting?
@@Lukronius my first guess would be that it has recordings of Kevin Garcia, but this comment was made around 6 years before his death so i dunno
@@Watmelon1 Yeah, as soon as I saw the date of the comment, I knew they weren’t talking about KG. Maybe, like, the seeming bleakness of Modesto or something?
@@Lukronius it also shows the orchard where the “Goodbye?” music video would be recorded 7 years later. but that’s hardly haunting
It's the first song on the album, "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot".
@06:55 "sometimes I just want to make love to the sky"
