      Thanks, I moved to FL and have a ton of content to do. Hope to get rolling again with the channel but as owner of Newrad Solutions it took off so harder to get in the garage for my own stuff lol

    I wish I would have seen this video before I installed my headers last year. I learned the same things. As you mentioned it is important to prefit everything before the engine is in the car, run a thread chaser in the threads and create the space that is needed for a wrench to tighten the bolts.

      Amen to that. I am pretty sure I had my headers in and out 3 times and maybe 4-5 times on the driver side getting it all sorted out.
      The AOD shift lever clearance issue was a wonderful gift as well 🤪

    I put a stud on the 1st header bolt to help with installation.

      yup also another good tip. The only issue in my case is there's not much room to have the header away from the head so have to make sure it's a fairly short stud

    When i swapped and used bbk long tubes never had these issues, and had a aod

      There is no way on this Earth my build would work with regular BBK long tubes on a 351 based build. And I have an aftermarket k member which has a ton of room.

    Thank you for putting this video up. Didn’t solve my 351w swap but it’s reassuring that I’m not the only one banging my head on the wall. I snagged Kooks and their x pipe. Cody right around 1500 all in and it’s not really fitting. Sucks

    Getting headers for a 1968 Mustang with 351W and a 4speed with mechanical clutch linkage is even more difficult.

    • @MrStangdawg
      @MrStangdawg  Рік тому

      oh that sounds like even more fun 😃. I am convinced best route to take is have a shop make custom headers when doing 351W swaps.

    The deck height is a 9.5 vs 8.2 . I wish everyone would do research on the differences between the 2 engines

      Definitely quite a few things you have to sort out when going 302 to 351W. I have a great video on the heater tube plumbing that I''ll be doing, waiting on the pieces to get delivered.

    I am looking to swap in a 351W .408 stroker motor into a 67 Mustang Gt with a built C-6 that is currently in there. Kinda of scared to do it, but hey, It has a built 460 in there now so how bad can it be? lol

    Stupid RCI's, buddy of mine bought a set made for his car they ended up hanging down and were 3/4" from the ground. For as long as he made headers he sure forgot what he was doing. My buddy had a 1 3/4" set of 302 headers that came apart at the tubes, should have bought them and tried to make them work. AOD? LOL I'm doing a 6R80 pray for me.

    • @MrStangdawg
      @MrStangdawg  Рік тому

      Yes my advice and if I ever take these out for a 427 I'm doing custom headers to get better fit. The fitment for me along the side of the AOD with the shift cable is horrendous. Had to really beat them into shape to clear.
      Good luck on the 6R80 lot more videos out there now than there was even just a couple years ago.

    i have a 351 in a 1995 ford f150. do i need special headers to fit in my engine bay? or do they all work the same?

    • @MrStangdawg
      @MrStangdawg  Рік тому

      Same headers but those older F150s have a ton of room in the engine but I suspect you won't have any clearance issues.

    BBK does not sell midpipes anymore.

    • @MrStangdawg
      @MrStangdawg  2 роки тому

      They do, just not the O/R version. Catted only.
      It’s not too expensive to have a shop just build a mid pipe.

    Any idea what headers would fit 351w in a 1995 mustang gt 5spd.?

    • @MrStangdawg
      @MrStangdawg  Рік тому +1

      The 95 is virtually the same deal as the 79-95. The 95 Cobra R had a 351W in it and Ford had to use the Cobra R hood not the stock 95 hood.

    • @anonymousplanetfambly4598
      @anonymousplanetfambly4598 Рік тому +1

      The biggest issue with the 94-95 Mustangs in this situation is the clutch fork. On a typical 94-95, the clutch fork is at 7 o'clock. This will directly interfere with the collector on any set of widely available fox LTs. On the 95 R, the clutch fork is closer to 9 o'clock, as it is in the fox body cars (as a matter of fact, the R model uses a TR3550 with a short input shaft...like a fox body...not the longer input shaft version used in the 94-95 V6s, GTs, or Cobras, so it shares the fork position with the fox). The regular 351w swap header for a fox will work with no issues in an R.
      So, if you want to get a 351 in your 94-95, you have two choices...either 94-95 specific 351w swap LT headers that will deal with the clocking of the clutch fork (either aftermarket or custom), or swap the transmission to a short input shaft out of a fox that has the clutch fork located up a bit so it clears the collector. This would also necessitate other modifications to accommodate the trans swap. Nobody said LTs were going to be easy, but it's even more difficult on the 94-95s.
      You may be able to use a 302 LT on the driver's side and a 351 LT on the passenger's side without the transmission swap to get the collector moved up enough to clear the fork. Of course that would involve purchasing two sets of headers, along with some downstream exhaust mods since one collector would be higher than the other...life would be a lot easier to just stick with shorties in a 351w swap into a vanilla 94-95. Just get Ford Racing R58 headers as originally used on the R, and any stock or aftermarket X/H will fit right up. Ford engineered the R58 headers that way from the start.
