My 351 Windsor based Notchback hits the dyno. What will it make?

  • I install some new parts on the car then take it to the dyno to baseline the 351 windsor based motor and was very happy with the power output.

      When I ran an exhaust shop in the 90s... If I had a PENNY for every 3rd gen Camaro owner that asked me to make their car sound like a "5.0". I'd literally be a millionaire..

      @@White_Fox_5.0 the 351w firing order refers to the firing order with the stock cam you could put a 302 Windsor cam in a 351w and change the firing order or visa versa.

    I’m 26 years old so too young to know anything about carbs/fox body mustangs… but watching this has really peaked my interest… it’s different to modern day tuning… and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this car.

      You're not too young lol. I'm 22 and have a carbed 351W in my Foxbody, and they really can't get much simpler. Never too late to start learning. SmarterEveryDay has some good videos on how carbs work

      Great insight. My 17 M6 is 800+ rwhp and it’s gone from a fun drive to a technical drive. Lost a lot of the magic.

    Definitely hard to beat the power a Windsor will make. With those numbers that should be a mid 10 second car. This is the content that we want!

    Very surprising numbers from the SBF. Definitely has some more hidden goodies inside. Id guess 408 and a nice cam or a bump in compression

    Damn that’s surprising, it must be like 11 or 12 to 1 bottom end cause I just don’t see 8.5 or 9 making that much power. Unless it’s the heads that flow that good. Badass content, makes me wanna dip back into the fox game again

      I don’t see that much power unless you have a stroker motor way over 400 ci or the Dyno is wrong

    I’m excited to see the finished product once you have put your personal touch on it. I just finished a 408 with slightly bigger heads and solid roller cam. This content is getting me through till I can get up to Orlando and make a couple hits

    Has to be a 408 with flat-top pistons. A bit under cammed also. My 408 made 499rwhp and 498 rwhp with a voodoo can .600 lift 241/249 2 .....050 all in at 6000 rpm.

    Nice baseline dyno. Sure it's a 393 or 408 based on those torque numbers and peak hp around 5600-6K rpms. People nowadays sleep on a good windsor based fox. Forget those old school combos can easily run 10's na and 9's with a touch of the sauce or boost.

    Run 96-04 sway bar mounts. They will hang the sway bar down a lil further. I do it on the coyote swaps. And those are edelbrock springs

    The timing adjustment did clear up the smoke during the pull. It may be jetted 1 size bigger as a “safety for the nitrous”. That thing with a 150-200 shot on the street would had been a deadly combination
    That gauge and the sensor on the header is Exhaust Gas Temperature. Thats what we tuned with hefore widebands came along. Very useful for nitrous applications. And more telling then wideband. On a nitrous car you can run into the situation of having a “safe AFR”, but too high EGT’s and still melt your motor.

    Alex, check out progression ignition distributors, you can dial in the timing from your phone, they work great, a buddy of mine has one on his 79 Monte Carlo big block Chevy, and has one on his wife’s 76 trans am.

    Good choice on the valve covers and air cleaner. Nice stuff. Nothing is cheap anymore. That’s why my notch now will stay with me for a while. Live and learn. Another thing I’ve learned as I got older was to try and not to do things 3 times.

    The exhaust gauge is by multiple of 10 so the 10 on it is 1000 degrees

    I just started the video and have to comment immediately for that splendid Windsor bark! Now, to try and clip it for my new morning alarm chime 🌊🛌. From it's vascular sound I'm going to guess ahead that it didn't disappoint on the dyno either. Parts farm wasn't f'kng around with her build!

    Definitely some kinda of stroker, you ever figure out what heads are on it? They look like dart cylinder heads (whatever they are the flow high cfm to make that power) , happy to see it made what you were told! I wanted to mention check out a later starter like 92 or 93 mini starter cause the high torque puts a lot of strain and will kill your starter relay and or starter, just word of advice from a 408w owner

    I bought the same light for my fox and it was 10* off I would suggest and innova timing light if the cen tech don’t work out innova is good quality and u can get one for 50-100 bucks depending on if it has a degree wheel or digital

    Alex, just stab the bolts through a piece of cardboard and paint the heads of the hardware black. Looks good and won’t overspray on the threads

    I’m gonna be glued to this project. That valve cover/air cleaner combo is 🔥. Might not be a bad idea to just paint the intake. Tough to keep raw aluminum looking good. I’ve always painted my aluminum intakes and used stainless allen head bolts & washers. I think it looks pretty dece.👌🏻

    If it’s not been said, that is an exhaust pyrometer. Generally used on turbo diesel trucks as 1300 deg before the turbo was the max you wanted.

    Honestly sounds like your timing high. Usually when drags when trying to start means it's high. Turn your distributor the other way. Cuz it should start up easily with no drag.

      Nope. Spark is 29-30 not high at all for the application.
