    BREW2L: I think you’re the number 1 authority on the Foxbody game. Always doing real world work into these cars plus, a history from back in the day. This channel has come a long way! A definite inspiration to getting started, step by step bites towards getting a car done. (Although they’re never done haha)! Thanks for the content!

    I prefer the blower for the simplicity, consistency and ease of installation. The turbo might make a little more power, but when both set ups are capable of splitting the stock block down the middle...does it really matter?

      In a race it does

      Well with a turbo you can actually regulate boost much easier. Power might come on slower but it comes in consistantly or linear i should say, not all at once. Also the turbo engine under daily driving will wear the engine less. The answer is simple, turbo is better for the life of the engine hands down. Thats why every diesel engine in tractor trailers are turbo engines not old school supercharged detroit and cat engines.

      I've had both and been in and around a lot of both blower/turbo cars. If you want to get into the game without a lot of headache, blower is the way to go.
      Centrifugal blowers have come a long way and are a lot more efficient than they used to be. They're much easier to install, less potential maintenance, and in general will be more reliable. Even a novice mechanic can install one in their driveway, usually without even having to jack the car up.
      The main advantage of a turbo is obviously efficiency. Being driven my exhaust gases instead of a pulley, a turbo essentially makes "free power", no parasitic loss. The other advantage to a turbo is infinite adjustability at your fingertips. The downside is that it's a more intricate setup, much more involved installation, and more potential maintenance. Also you'll generally spend a bit more on a complete turbo kit than a blower.
      At the end of the day, you can make big power with both. If you just want to have fun with a street car that you tinker with on the weekends, the blower is the way to go. I think if you're a more serious mechanic and more serious about making the absolute most power you can, take the turbo hands down.

      Sounds like you own a 5.0 Mustang. They can't handle over 500 horsepower without splitting the block, even with a girdle.

      @@subz3ro43 Meh, not really. I've seen as many turbo cars get walked by blower cars, as I've seen blower cars get walked by turbo cars. For 99% of street cars out there, the difference in their power delivery is negligible.

    I'm old school. Centrifugal everytime! Plus you get the exhaust note as well. Also I love the typical centrifugal whistle. The main difference between both car are cubes! The green one has much higher torque capacity, plain and simple.

      I had an old Vortech S-Trim (basically fresh oil fed, with straight cut gears) and man did I love that "whistle". Made a bucket load of power. I was spinning it pretty hard, so it came on in a hurry too. Made my little stroked and poked Fox body a complete death trap. Went like hell, but when it broke loose, it made your butt pucker. lol

      @@alfrede.neuman8611 I understand how those work but I honestly prefer positive displacement superchargers over the turbo looking one cuz of the lack of boost down low, it's more of a drag race blower vs the positive displacement one..

      @@P71ScrewHead I agree. For general drivability, the Positive Displacement blower was better. I had a 4.6L SOHC with one on it a few years back that I was spinning pretty hard and the power delivery was awesome. Didn't feel like there was a power adder on there at all.....felt more like dealt the 4.6L in on a big block 460. Instant torque and power at all times. Very controllable and a lot of fun. • @michaelharris748
      @michaelharris748 2 роки тому

      @@P71ScrewHead you mean a centrifugal? A turbos boost response is based on the sizing of it and your cubic inches etc. You can have a nice powerband and good power as low as 3000ish rpm with a properly sized turbo with good tuning. There is a misconception that turbos are only for high rpm power. Centrifugal superchargers do build boost with rpm and will have much more up top as opposed to 3k rpm but turbos aren't necessarily like that unless you just have a huge ass turbo on there that's too big for the application. I prefer positive displacement blowers for mostly street setups myself. My bolt on 07 gt500 is at 550 rwhp with 4.10 gears and that thing has torque for days and it is INSTANT you can't feel boost kicking in it feels like a badass big block. I have a 2650 tvs gen3r from vmp going on it this summer once I finish gathering supporting mods like injectors etc I should be north of 750 wheel with the same size 2.6 pulley I'm running now. It's gonna be a monster I may have to go back to 331 gears lol. I am running a 17x7/15x10 f14 drag pack with 275/60/15 et street r tires so it's a fairly aggressive street setup but 410 may be little much for what it's gonna be we shall see!

    the pro charger guys, is more like a turbo that is centrifugal, it makes power in the top end because it it spools up the hard you turn the through outs like a clutch ,,a Whipple, for example, makes all its power in the bottom end because its direct drive and the speed is controlled by pully sizes, there a few trade-offs there but mostly space. a Whipple is a hood cowl no way around it. pro chargers are low-profile goodness, but they are gutless off the jump. compound them and then you get a tone of fun if you can get it out of the driveway. factors f'n factors. efi, mechanical fuel injectors, and throttle bodies., and a shit ton of tinkering
    the safe way to go about it is to yank the factory-cast cranks and replace them with forged ones. no matter the make if torque is you game longer throughs on the crank and each make has a different tolerance for that it requires a stouter longer con rod and job specific sleaves.meaning what they are made of, and the proper clearance .crucial to engine life. all power adders have a mileage rating depending on the application, know them, i commend the author of the video for encouraging you to get involved with go fast there is not enough of us in the hobby to sustain it, and for that, I love him, there is a lot of $$ involved and people give up on it quick if shit goes wrong, bobby and his Friday night hot rod is all but dead for many factors the biggest gov. over reach, but I for one will never surrender. you don't need a paperweight in the driveway with a tow sticker in the window, everything worthwhile deserves careful consideration if you're a poor boi better have a side hustle and a brain between your ears. have said the have the hell at it.,,, an after though you gotta gap the piston rings for boots and if I'm not mistaken it has to have a boots target

    Turbo technology has come so far that I’d prefer to go that way over SC but either will make me happy. Also, if I were going SC route I’d go with twin screw over centrifugal they have come a long way and are making great top end boost today. Back in early 90s when I built my 331ci motor I debated NA or boosted went NA and wish I went boosted, live and learn.

    • @ohane1
      @ohane1 8 місяців тому

      It has for stock cars, when you go big... you lose all that technology. Superchargers are better for big motors, turbos are your only option on small one. Prolly a reason top fuel uses superchargers & are the fastest in the world by a LOT.

    • @msk3905
      @msk3905 8 місяців тому

      @@ohane1 ok so explain this one to me using facts, turbos provide boost just like super chargers using a compressor where a turbo spins the turbo using exhaust heat and a super charger spins co pressor using engine. When you go big do these engines not have exhaust heat? How does a turbo lose its ability to spin a compressor so cannot provide boost? Are larger turbo’s section not available for larger displacement engines because correct if I’m wrong but aren’t they common place on semi trucks with massive displacement engines? Twin screws are used in top fuel because they want full boost off idle, if they wait for a larger turbo to spool the race is over. I have to say your comment shows your lack of knowledge in turbo and super charger technology

    Should’ve went over the price difference between the 2. Which I already know the answer. I’ve had both and I can tell you from experience I’d go the turbo route. No belts and pulleys to deal with

    I still like the SVE series 3s or BBS or CCW ❤️. I currently have Convo Pros bigs and littles. They are 15s but look so good lol.
    I’m going with the 18x9 and 18x10 to fit the Cadillac ATS Brembo calipers. Going to get the gold bronze or whatever color they are.

    This makes me feel so inferior with my rinky dink 90 GT lol. I love both of these cars man. Maybe one day I will pull mine from under the shelter and get it road worthy again.

    you can add a boost controller with software to ramp in boost by gear which makes it linear.

    I think as foxbody owners, we all can relate to that grin that was underneath your face of concentration of what the car is doing while you were doing those test runs. Can't help but be happy with our toys when they work like they're supposed to!!

    The calypso looks great with those wheels !! I think that the retro fox should get the sc wheels though and have harris lue make u some decals for one of the spokes like his and then get the new 18in 93 cobra wheels on the calypso ! Sick! Also the 65 fast back should stay with the carb set up and go with a 351 based 427 with a 4 speed just raw horsepower !!
